I don't own the game but I don't like the practice of trying to get away with something scummy like this and making it a little bit less scummy because of community complaints.
I was slightly interested in the game but after seeing these practices I don't feel bad by not supporting the developers in any way.
"said the leaks caused "irreparable injury" to brand and undermined the carefully cultivated excitement and interest in the new games"
What a BS statement.
Selling a Pokemon game for $60 and not sharing any details so people have no clue what "irreparable injury" Gamefreak caused to the game. If anything the leaks caused potential buyers to be informed of the product they were about to buy.
I honestly hope this won't hold up in court, TPC themselves are responsible for the trainwreck of a marketing campaign for Sword and Shield.
Loved Yooka-Laylee on Switch after finally giving it a chance. I actually backed the game but was disappointed with some things like not being able speed up the dialogue. When this and more was fixed the game really became a lot more fun.
Unfortunately this game has yet to grab me, none of the trailers do anything for me. This review peaks my interest, I will wait and watch some more footage and impressions.
Had to send in my (launch system) L-Joycon for repair twice and it was handled within warranty by Nintendo (in the Netherlands).
First time was for the sync issue which was acknowledged by Nintendo. Unfortunately within approx. 1 year after this repair the stick started drifting upwards and it only got worse as time passed. It got to the point where I couldn't play games with it anymore. Called Nintendo, they told me to send it in and they replaced the stick.
I never had to rely on warranty or repairs for any of my consoles and I've been gaming since the NES came out. The N64 sticks were bad (still working though) but only long after the GCN came out did I buy some replacement sticks for the N64 controllers because I wanted them in good condition. I'm also relatively careful with my electronics and keep everything in good condition and in a clean environment.
I definitely think there is a design flaw of the sticks or joycons that is causing drifiting issues. I hope Nintendo will be forced to acknowledge the issue and send out replacement Joycons for people with the issue. It sucks for a company and costs a lot of money but they should have selected better quality parts if it really is the stick as many suspect.
I mean, I backed the game because B-K is one of my all-time favourite games. At first I played the PS4 version and it did not click, there were a few annoyances like not being able to skip or speed dialogue. Stopped playing after reaching the first world.
Fast forward to now where I gave in, bought the Switch version and noticed they patched most of my original complaints. The game is tons of fun, gives a similar vibe to Banjo and the gameplay is pretty solid overall.
It may not be the golden standard that is B-K but I sure had a good time and I have no idea where all the hate stems from. I would truts Playtonic with B-K3, they would get a bigger budget and could also make use of better more costly engines too.
It's not surprising, still a bit disappointed I guess (the times of companies releasing games like Mega Man Anniversary Collection are gone...).
I hope something will be done for Battle Network / Star Force too, I'm fine with straight ports or emulated versions but a little HD remastery would be awesome.
And speaking of which, what about Mega Man X Command Mission? Technically it's a Mega Man X game, it really deserves an HD remaster (with at least widescreen support).
Meh, looks okay but it's still free to play with micro transactions.
I play games to have fun, not to be constantly reminded I can spend realy money to make the game more fun.
Yes, I spend realy money on games all the time, the difference is that with microtransactions it's basically a bottomless pit. You can throw all the money you have at the game but there will never be a point where you don't need to pay for anything anymore.
Can't wait for the Switch version to get announced and released, can't come soon enough
@nab1 That is very naive, do you really think DLC and Season Passes aren't planned at the start of such a big project?
It's a BS business practice that I generally don't support. Nintendo is also slowly sliding down this slippery hill, Zelda BotW doesn't look much better than the other offenders.
As long as people keep buying it companies will keep doing it and probably try to get away with even more, I guess I'm in the minority as I rarely buy DLC (exceptions are there of course, maybe 2 or 3 since DLC started to be a thing).
Compared to the usual Nintendo eShop discounts this is quite good.
Compared to PSN sales (that change up every 1-2 weeks) this is nothing special, the PSN games usually get a much better discount.
If Nintendo really wishes to compete they seriously need to get their act together. I still support them because I know there will be a small number of games over the lifespan of their hardware that will make buying it completely worth it. It's getting harder and harder to justify buying Nintendo hardware over the years though.
@KoopaTheGamer I must admit that I haven't actually played FRN so I'm not entirely sure just how it compares to Wipeout in controls. However, I feel like I don't need to play it to know that the controls are much closer to Wipeout than F-Zero as it is very obvious just from watching gameplay footage.
The fact that Wipeout has items actually doesn't make THAT much of a difference I'd argue. To me the way the vehicles control make all the difference and no amount of modes, boosting or even items will make floaty controls feel anything like an F-Zero game.
I do understand that FRN is different enough from Wipeout to not be considered a direct clone though.
It's just that I prefer F-Zero's tight controls and after enjoying Wipeout HD to a certain extend...in the end it only made me want F-Zero more. So that's why I decided not to buy FRN.
The game looks like F-Zero but it plays nothing like F-Zero.
F-Zero has extremely tight controls and that allows for much more exciting track design. the Fast games are nothing more than Wipeout games in another coat that was clearly inspired from F-Zero.
I'm not saying the games are bad but I hate it when people say the game is like F-Zero when it's not. I still have no idea why most developers choose floaty controls.
As a Y-L backer with both a PS4 and Wii U I decided to go with the PS4 version early on, I was under the impression that by the time the game would release the Wii U would be even less relevant.
I truly believe they wanted to bring the game to Wii U and that it really was technical issues that's preventing them from doing so. Don't forget that the Wii U is practically dead and the Switch is around the corner, if you as a developer are struggling to get your game running on Wii U it may be better to just move the project to the Switch.
These guys are not just in it for the money, they love creating games and that's exactly the reason why they got together in the first place! They basically worked on Y-L in their own time for a month or longer and they also did this when working for Rare in the early days. Anyone not trusting these guys to do a good job or to do their best to support Nintendo consoles may want to do a bit of research on the team.
While I'm generally optimistic about the idea behind the Switch I do feel it's a bit sad and funny how Nintendo acts like it's really a big deal:
"It allows people to enjoy a home console experience not only in front of a TV, but in rooms with no TV, or outside altogether"
It's not like the Vita wasn't marketed in almost the same way. Besides, how big is the difference between a 'console' and a 'handheld' game nowadays really? I feel like we are at a point where the two provide pretty much the same experience.
I know it's just marketing trying hard to sell the thing but I feel like that's not really the cool thing about the Switch. I like the concept because it simplifies and unifies the gaming concept, no more buying both a (Nintendo) handheld and a home console for all my gaming needs with a split library of games!
At a certain point I stopped caring about special or limited editions, posters and statues. I just want to play the game and all the other stuff just collects dust and I have to find a place to keep it.
So now I just buy most of my games standard edition or digital, I always enjoy watching gamers all over the globe worry about all these extras though.
I'll be buying Sun and Moon digital and physical for trading purposes, haven't pre-ordered and I don't think it will be necessary...or should I?
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy True but a small company only has so many resources. Pokemon Go was released in what seemed to be Beta (or even Alpha), the game lacks many features they said it would have and there are still tons of other things they could do to expand and improve the experience.
This news means that they only put a few resources into Pokemon Go, even at full force they were incompetent so take that how you will.
Anyway, I stopped playing Pokemon Go quite some time ago. It was a refreshing experience that quickly became tedious and annoying (like every F2P phone game I've played). I understand how these games can be fun beyond that for people who don't own a dedicated handheld/console but I still see F2P as a flawed concept that always ends up screwing the player.
Pretty much copying the design of a famous logo to use for your own game is a cry for attention. It's easy media attention for your game I guess, still it's not something I would be proud of and I don't support it.
The game could be fun but I'll let gameplay videos, reviews and opinions on the game decide for me.
I can't wait for Sun&Moon to come out, I'm re-playing through Y in anticipation and my complete living Pokedex has been waiting a long time on the Bank! I haven't been this excited about a new Pokemon game in a long time but everything I've seen so far is really good and heading in the right direction.
I always laugh how everytime new Pokemon are introduced there's a large group of people bashing the designs while praising the Gen 1 designs. Mr. Mime and Jynx are IMO some of the worst Pokemon designs and how are Magnemite, Grimer, Exeggcute and Voltorb better in design than Klink, Trubbish, Litwick, Klefki and Vanillite?
You can't please everyone but I'm confident that most if not all designs will grow on everyone as time passes. Mr. Mime and Jynx have grown on people so there's your evidence
It would probably be the smartest way to handle the release of Sun&Moon. Pokemon Go was most likely originally created to try and reach a new (and sometimes old) audience with the Pokemon brand and in turn create potential customers for Nintendo's hardware and the Pokemon games.
It won't leech anything off of the sales for Sun&Moon, Pokemon Go is a free app with no depth to the mechanics at all. Even if P2P battles are available in the future, the game is boring because it is so shallow and lacks just about everything that makes the main Pokemon games so fun.
The games are completely different so why would releasing new Pokemon in GO make people not want to buy Sun&Moon anymore? Anyone interested in a Pokemon game won't be satisfied with just Pokemon GO, that's where the main games come in and they will do just fine. I'm stoked about Sun & Moon btw.
ps: I play Pokemon GO every now and then and it's a fun little distraction. It did become much worse after the latest update and I noticed every Pokemon flees when you travel faster. I can't even play the game when I'm in the passenger seat? Yeah...great way to give me even less opportunities to play your game.
I used Pokegen to edit a save in a rom on a flashcard in a regular DS. I then trade those Pokemon to a real copy that's compatible and from there they go to the bank.
The program I have is not connected to the Internet or anything so as long as you have it on your PC you can use it.
This is actually the only part I really don't like about Pokemon; event exclusives.
Thankfully there's an easy way around it (Pokegen) and I have no regrets (full living dex in the bank). I just want everybody to have access to the same content at all times, gotta catch 'm all right?
Gotta be at the right time and place and download 'm all more like.
Not interested in this game and I couldn't care less about Amiibo, I haven't bought any physical DLC...errrr Amiibo and I have no interest in ever buying one either.
@WiltonRoots That's why I said there are far more issues that need to be resolved. Gamecube also had other problems, for starters it followed the N64 which did poorly and was massively abandoned by 3rd parties for various reasons (many of which are Nintendo's own fault).
In the end market share is what determines 3rd party support. How Nintendo can gain that market share is the big question. I'm convinced however, there's no way Nintendo can get back the casual market without abandoning its current fans.
If Nintendo wants to stay in the gaming business they will have to compete or work together with Sony and/or Microsoft on some level. This is by no means an easy task and there's no guarantee they will succeed but I think it's the best choice they have if they want to stay in the console business.
@WiltonRoots It's not about the power but about getting 3rd parties on board. Most if not all of us here agree that power isn't necessary for fun games.
For many 3rd party developers the best way to make money is to develop a game and release it on multiple platforms, provided the platforms can run the game and have a similar architecture. Wii U was too different from the norm (PC/PS4/XBONE) and the install base wasn't large enough to offset that difference to the extra development costs of making games work on Wii U.
That is why people want a more powerful Nintendo console, they hope that it will bring back 3rd party support and in turn make Nintendo more relevant. Though it may help there are far more issues that need to be resolved and Nintendo has not shown any signs of that happening.
@IceClimbers I don't think your theory holds up, hardcore gamers (man I hate that term) love games not companies. If Nintendo brings the games they will come eventually.
The casual market is truly lost unless Nintendo decides to fully abandon its own fanbase. The arrival of Phone and Tablet gaming has made the rift between casuals and hardcore much bigger and if Nintendo wants to get the casual audience to buy their console they will have to make some radical changes that most hardcore gamers (Nintendo fans) won't be happy with.
The best chance Nintendo has at becoming relevant in gaming again is competing with Sony and Microsoft. Don't forget that many gamers are not entirely happy with Neo and Scorpio and there are many comments floating around of moving to PC if the upgrade model becomes the industry norm. Nintendo could position themselves as the go-to company for console games with the most exclusives and 3rd party support if they have a competent console and make an effort (investment) to get the big 3rd party games on board to compete on the same level.
There's no room for 3 consoles in that race but I think Nintendo has a strong case against Microsoft at the moment. They basically told Xbone owners there will be no more exclusives and that their 2 year old console will be second rate in 18 months.
Of course with the comments Reggie made regarding NX I'm not sure Nintendo truly understands the current market or even their position in it. So many bad decisions these last few years and so many disappointed fans, that's not a good sign. Who knows, they may have some kind of revolutionary idea that changes everything for NX. But to be honest, only the most delusional Nintendo fan would still believe that after all that has happened.
@LegendOfPokemon Right, as if we Europeans never have to wait months (or years) for games after they've been released in the US. It's also not like we sometimes don't even get games at all even though there's a perfectly fine English translated version released in the US. Don't even get me started on the NES/SNES/N64 days, that was just plain torture.
The instances where Europe gets a game earlier or exclusively are so few and far in between but always blown up because Americans aren't used to it so they set the entire net on fire.
...I'm glad we finally have a release date for Europe. Went 100% digital so I'm not interested in physical anymore.
I'm sad because waiting 4 months for the exact same game they released in the US feels pointless. What's there to localise? I'm honestly really disappointed that in this day and age it's still so hard to do simultaneous releases (not just Nintendo's fault I guess).
It's like they're not even trying. There are so many VC games alone that could be released on Wii U and 3DS eShops it boggles the mind why it just doesn't happen. Or how many wanted VC games only release in Japan.
Maybe I'll buy Fast Racing Neo. FRN footage never clicked with me even though I'm a huge F-Zero fan and love Wipeout HD, FRN controls seem too floaty and visually I hate the shaking camera effect.
I'm also thinking about OoT even though I own every possible version of it by now (including the original at launch) and I love the 3DS version because of the aiming controls.
DK64 is the one game I'll definitely buy though, I don't really think the game is good from any point of view and certainly not when compared to my favourite game B-K. But it's still great fun 100%ing, I did it a few times and last time was a few months ago. I don't have my N64 hooked up so I played it on emulator, looks great on HDTV and despite a few graphical glitches very playable.
@rjejr The game runs on Unity, this was already known when they announced the Kickstarter. So they won't be able to sell the engine as they had to purchase it themselves.
How good a game looks is not all on the engine though, the skills of the developers is key.
I'm glad I backed this project, I have no doubts about these guys because they are the real deal. B-K is my favourite game of all-time for various reasons and just reading their Kickstarter page brought back 'scribes' memories and all the witty writing in their games which made me appreciate Rare so much more!
@shaneoh Yeah, with decent internet speed downloading a copy is just easier and more convenient than going through the trouble of creating a backup yourself. There really is no difference, what's on the disc is the same.
@shaneoh Or how many people bought the game before pirating it.
I know I did, softmodding the Wii and putting all my games on one HDD so I didn't have to swap discs was a big advantage for me. Of course I also used it to play games I didn't own but for me it was more along the lines of a demo, if I like what I play I'll buy it for sure.
I love Starfox and Starfox 64 (3D) but this game just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure the controls work fine once you got the hang of it like in Kid Icarus but I'm pretty sure any player would still be more effective with the standard Starfox controls in a properly designed game.
To put it into perspective, I've played Counter Strike for a few years and the same argument about controls popped up every now and then regarding Mouse&Keyboard vs Controller. The controller is just fine once you get the hang of it but put a controller pro vs a M&K pro and it's no contest. M&K is faster and more accurate everytime and for CS it's the best control scheme no matter how good the controls may work on a controller.
It's easy to tell how Starfox Zero came to be. Nintendo had to push the Wii U and it's controller with unique software. Simply put, a neat idea for a flight game for the Wii U is created and they tack the Starfox IP on for better sales. This was never meant to be Starfox, just like Dinosaur Planet.
I'm disappointed that there's still no sign of cross buy for VC titles. If I buy a VC game I should be able to play it on any Nintendo system that can play it, it's not that complicated and certainly it should be possible with the new My Nintendo accounts. Not even a discount for buying the same game 2,3 or even 4 times across different systems and generations?
It's just as bad as Square-Enix and their FFX HD prices.
Also it's bad that as a huge fan of Starfox 64 I feel no excitement at all for Star Fox Zero...

Re: Mythical Pokémon Arceus is Now Up for Grabs From Store Distributions
@Kmno that was meant as a reply ^
Re: Mythical Pokémon Arceus is Now Up for Grabs From Store Distributions
I used Pokegen to edit a save in a rom on a flashcard in a regular DS. I then trade those Pokemon to a real copy that's compatible and from there they go to the bank.
The program I have is not connected to the Internet or anything so as long as you have it on your PC you can use it.
Re: Mythical Pokémon Arceus is Now Up for Grabs From Store Distributions
This is actually the only part I really don't like about Pokemon; event exclusives.
Thankfully there's an easy way around it (Pokegen) and I have no regrets (full living dex in the bank). I just want everybody to have access to the same content at all times, gotta catch 'm all right?
Gotta be at the right time and place and download 'm all more like.
Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Will Have amiibo Support
Not interested in this game and I couldn't care less about Amiibo, I haven't bought any physical DLC...errrr Amiibo and I have no interest in ever buying one either.
Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns
Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns
Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns
Re: Rhythm Paradise Megamix Is Getting Physical In Europe
@LegendOfPokemon Right, as if we Europeans never have to wait months (or years) for games after they've been released in the US. It's also not like we sometimes don't even get games at all even though there's a perfectly fine English translated version released in the US. Don't even get me started on the NES/SNES/N64 days, that was just plain torture.
The instances where Europe gets a game earlier or exclusively are so few and far in between but always blown up because Americans aren't used to it so they set the entire net on fire.
Re: Rhythm Paradise Megamix Is Getting Physical In Europe
...I'm glad we finally have a release date for Europe.
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th June (Europe)
It's like they're not even trying. There are so many VC games alone that could be released on Wii U and 3DS eShops it boggles the mind why it just doesn't happen. Or how many wanted VC games only release in Japan.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Unveils Over 40 Discounts for eShop 5 Year Anniversary Sale
Re: Interview: Playtonic On Yooka-Laylee Progress And Its New 2017 Release Window
@rjejr
The game runs on Unity, this was already known when they announced the Kickstarter.
Re: Video: Learn More About Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
@shaneoh
Yeah, with decent internet speed downloading a copy is just easier and more convenient than going through the trouble of creating a backup yourself. There really is no difference, what's on the disc is the same.
Re: Video: Learn More About Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
@shaneoh
Or how many people bought the game before pirating it.
I know I did, softmodding the Wii and putting all my games on one HDD so I didn't have to swap discs was a big advantage for me. Of course I also used it to play games I didn't own but for me it was more along the lines of a demo, if I like what I play I'll buy it for sure.
Re: Ouendan And Elite Beat Agents Creator Would Love To Continue The Series On Nintendo NX
I love Ouendan much more than EBA and since Nintendo loves screwing us with a Region Lock I'm cautiously excited about this news.
crosses fingers for a future without region locking
Re: Preview: Preferring the Air in Star Fox Zero
Meh, Kirk and Yorumi pretty much nailed it.
Re: Video: Catch Up With All of the North American and European Nintendo Direct Videos
