One of the most popular playable character requests for Super Smash Bros. over the years has been Ubisoft's Rayman.
While he's already been added to Nintendo's all-star brawler as a spirit and trophy, the chances of him joining as a playable character seem far less likely - especially now that Ubisoft isn't making much use of him, and considering the fact Sakurai only has a few slots remaining in the second Fighters Pass.
This hasn't stopped one fan, though, from requesting Ubisoft's beloved mascot. The New Zealand-based Smash fan - who goes by the name CallMeKorora on Twitter - sent off a letter to Nintendo of America last year - requesting Rayman in Smash, and surprisingly, Nintendo actually responded.
In short - while there's no clear "yes" or "no" line, the Nintendo representative was more than happy to forward the suggestion to the "other departments" within the company. Sure, it might not really pass the message on, but the letter itself is rather neat. It also included some free bookmarks!

There has been a lot of talk about adding Rayman to Smash Bros. games in the past as a playable fighter, and even Ubisoft said it was all for it a number of years ago:
Would you like to see Rayman one day join Nintendo's famous fighting game series? Share your thoughts down below.

Isn't this just PR speak, like when kids send in emails to Nintendo trying to get them to use a game idea they came up with?
I got a similar letter in response to one I mailed them regarding Eternal Darkness being made available on Switch in some way, shape or form. It's totally just PR without meaning anything, but it was nice to hear from them when I figured it would be thrown away and forgotten. https://twitter.com/sabeythang/status/1323674985290960904?s=20
@VoidofLight Sure. But even a form response is nicer than being ignored, as kids, job seekers and F-Zero fans know well.
Says it will send the suggestion to "other departments"

Yeah just looks like a normal garden-variety email response to me...or whatever. lol
Way too late to ask anyways, I doubt a 3rd pass is happening and these will be the final two characters left, which have already been decided a long time ago.
Man, rayman in smash is all I really want.
I'll never forget when the King K. Rool fanbase sent a letter to Nintendo thanking them for putting the kremling king into Smash. August 8th, 2018 was a special day.
I am impressed with this alright
If it doesn’t happen that’s fine, but I would love to have Rayman in Smash. Rayman 2 is still one of my favorite games out there.
@COVIDberry True. Still, I don't get why people are pushing this as conclusive evidence that Rayman will be in smash though.
Although I know this is PR speak at least it is a response, unlike Ubisoft that completely ignored the 25th anniversary.
@VoidofLight Agreed. I'm not at all knowledgeable on the subject, but it does seem redundant to me that the same character would be included in a secondary way (trophies), only to have his participation be "upgraded". Still, predicting Nintendo's actions can be dangerous
Why can't my franchise be in smash Nintendo? I want to see farmer Pete, Claire, Mark, and Pony duke it out with the Animal Crossing characters.
Maybe this could mean we are getting fighters pass 3?
I still firmly believe/am certain that Rayman is frozen on the right side of the stage in Battlefield. Go into training mode or use photo mode to see “him” It would be cool if he would break out of the ice and joins the roster. I would not be THAT suprised if he were to join the game but I def would love to have him,
I wrote to them and asked for ‘Jack The Nipper’ in Smash, they wrote back and their exact words were “Dear sir, move on, the 8 bit golden age is dead, forget about your Alba cassettes and your multi load games, we don’t need great characters from legendary games in Smash, we need licensed ***** ones like Steve from Minecraft who’ll make us a ***** load of money. Kindest Regards Nintendo”
@HamatoYoshi screw MS, lets get a Gremlin X Nintendo colab in the works.
@X68000 yes! We need Monty Mole, Thing On A Spring, the little round guy from Bounder!
@HamatoYoshi @X68000
More 8-bit legends would be great! Miner Willy, Gribbly, and Bounty Bob!
@ImBackBB
Haahahahhaha 🤣
@Ooyah exactly! So many great 8 bit characters.
I really want Rayman to be added to the roster. He is one of the last remaining 90s-platform-mascots, and they kinda teased him in the last game with trophies of him and his friends. Plus, he would look visually very distinctive with his European, cartoonish look.
@HamatoYoshi
By the way... just to say that I love Jack The Nipper. I honestly believe that a remake could work brilliantly. Thinking about it, Untitled Goose Game almost felt like a spiritual successor to Jack, having the same central theme of just being as much of a nuisance as possible!
@HamatoYoshi @Ooyah have you played Horace? For me, it's the best recreation of a UK bedroom coded game I've ever played.
'Member Jet Set Willy?' Yeah, I member!
So it's their fancy way of saying no? Ok.
Magic 8 ball says.... ‘Don’t count on it’
Is a generic PR response actually, I send them a letter back in 2010 asking them to release an English version of a Puyo Puyo game to NA and I got the same response from them. I do gotta admit that the bookmarks are cool, i might just mail them asking for some free bookmarks lol
Totally reads like a copypaste with a [Insert Suggestion Here] and a couple instances of [Insert Name].
@Ooyah yes! Great comparison! Basically the goose was just causing mischief and getting up to shenanigans like old Jack The Nipper.
@Entrr_username How to say no but be polite about it.
Maybe, I should write Nintendo a letter about bringing Golden Sun 1 & 2 to the Switch.
Maybe this is how I can finally get Flimbo into Smash.
But seriously, while it is PR speak, it is a nice of them to write it. Back in the 90's I sent a game idea to Nintendo and I got back a similar letter, on green paper with a picture of Donkey Kong on it. And as a child, I was thrilled just to hear back. It is a nice gesture.
@sanderev I was mostly joking honestly. I'm surprised someone responded since most companies usually wouldn't even bother
For the people saying this confirms that Rayman is not one of the last 2 DLCs, the girl who replied to him probably has no idea who are going to be the last 2 DLCs.
What's the point in asking? I thought it was already known that Nintendo chose their Fighters before the DLC was announced or something like that. This would be asking for Sakurai to overwork himself (again). Let him take the break he needs.
If the Switch had actual games, NintendoLife wouldn't have to resort to publishing these vapid, sunstance free articles just to fill space everyday.
I hope this deconfirms him. Master Kohga for smash!
It does appear to be a PR letter. But even at that, someone had to take the time to process it and respond to it in detail and send it — to someplace not served by that part of the company. (Remember, the requestor is from New Zealand and the response came from Nintendo of America).
Would be nice if Nintendo do one more Fighter's Pass with 5 more candidates chosen from the fighter ballet instead of being chosen by Nintendo themselves. Heck it doesn't even need to include third party characters anymore, just all Nintendo characters would be fine.
Since the characters are already selected it would be really funny Rayman was one of them.
Would've been such a better pick than Pyra for sure.
Yeah, I'm agree with that, I like to see Rayman join in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as next DLC character.
I can't believe he's not in it already. Seems like such a no brainer.
i want a 3D Rayman game!
Forget Rayman, I want activity meter from walk with me on the ds. He'd be so good
Plus why would 'other departments' be game development for nintendo, a game development company? For Smash it'd be the main department surely
Rayman sucks, smash needs Plok!
This sounds a lot like the email I got back when I asked if there were going to be any Metroid games on the N64.
I guess I should've sent the email to IGN news!
@Bizaster I think when I was little I was going to do the same, but my dad looked it up before emailing, and decided not to do it.
First time i played Rayman demo on my PC i thought my graphic card was broken cause the guy had no hands. Well guess he's kinda part of Nintendo history, too many releases on Nintendo machines. Still dont like him
