Re: Random: Brendan Fraser Was So Busy Playing Switch He Missed The Start Of A Meet & Greet

jrb363

@AcridSkull Depression tends to do that to people. Brendan went through a lot due to lies told by his ex, she is a horrible woman. No person (man or woman) should be trapped in an abusive, loveless marriage. Brendan was mocked by coming out about the abuse and because his wife had better connections he was blacklisted for years until recently.

I'm sure feeling like your former love hated you, left you and then ruined your career would do quite the mental number. So glad he appears to be doing better.

Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)

jrb363

@DDStuff I honestly hope we have to wait until 2023. It's not that far off, we'll see 5nm chips as the standard, more mature dlss-type of tech, storage and speed improvements...all things we'll really need to have an upgraded Switch be worth it imo.

Right now the tech hasn't advanced enough to give us anything worthwhile without a significant price increase and production issues. Nintendo isn't stupid. Why release something you'll be roundly criticized over for the next year or more? Looks at Sony/Microsoft

Re: Video: Do Faster Micro SD Cards Actually Improve Load Times On Switch?

jrb363

@westman98 It's definitely old tech but I'm always amazed at how good Nintendo titles look (and certain 3rd party titles).

With the major jumps in performance ARM/Mobile chips are seeing, I really hope Nintendo waits another 2-3 years before upgrading the Switch so we can fully realize those gains. 5nm or 3nm should be what the next Switch launches on imo.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Doug Bowser Introduces His Parents To Mario Kart 8 On Switch

jrb363

@Scrubicius I agree, I don't think we need Mario Kart 9 until the true Switch successor. More tracks, some mini-games, new characters or even different styles of racing would be welcome. A brand new game? I don't see what they can bring to the table with current tech in all honesty and it would split the very strong MK8 online fan base.

I'd happily take a new or remastered F-Zero though!

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass Game Boy Advance As Demand Stays High

jrb363

I'm expecting ~150+ Million in lifetime sales for the system and honestly hope it's 2023 before we see a Switch Pro.

All these folks wanting an upgraded system, I ask...with what? We haven't seen major chip upgrades yet in the space the Switch operates beyond maybe upscaling titles to 4k at significant cost/heat generation.

The tech isn't ready for an upgrade yet.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

jrb363

Honestly, I loved the Wii U. I remember playing SM3DW and NBA 2k in bed and blown away thatsuch a thing was even possible. Of course modern day Xbox Game Pass through streaming absolutely kills it. But for almost 10 years ago it was quite something.

It still has some good looking games, if a bit soft around the edges on a modern 4k set, but the Zelda games are awesome, SM3DW, ZombiU, Monster Hunter online with voice chat and offbeat titles like the Scribblenauts series. Lots of fun to be had on the cheap.

I picked up another Wii U + Zelda package for cheap from GameStop a little over a year ago and I'm glad I did. It may never be a classic but it's an awesome system and I'm so glad most Nintendo titles have been ported over so millions of fans can enjoy them.

Oh yeah... Splatoon and SSB were better on Wii U. Fight me.

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying

jrb363

@KateGray Understand where you're coming from, and I do apologize but my point stands: You wanting more advanced hardware because yours is worn out. Sounds like the Switch Lite would be a much better fit for your traveling lifestyle. With shortages, bots, increasing prices on everything, I'd hate for Nintendo to crush their own momentum right now when there isn't anything out there that pushes the boundary right now in portable tech.

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying

jrb363

I personally don't see the rush. New tech would be great, but at what financial/battery life cost? Also, how much more power will we get a handful of years down the road? I think waiting for a true jump and the author sucking it up and buying a current unit would be the sane option but then they'd miss their article quota. 🙄

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

jrb363

@Mountain_Man That's the thing though, this isn't a board game. It's a AAA big budget title made in 2020, designed for a console that they repeatedly stress is for family time and group activities together but on their main title last year locked those options out for the sake of $. It's pathetic and I haven't purchased another Nintendo title since then.

Looking back the advertisement was very misleading as well and I wasn't the only one. Hundreds of complaints on Reddit and elsewhere about it. Disappointed because for my kids to truly explore their own island I'd need to buy them each a copy. Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary and financially wasteful, especially in this day and age. Stupid, greedy decision by them that I won't soon forget.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

jrb363

It was a fine game and if I had more time I'd be super excited about it but what absolutely killed it for me was when I realized I'd need a separate console and copy of the game to play with my wife and also that my kids couldn't play either.

Screw that. Seriously Nintendo? It's 2021. Let us have multiple islands linked by a profile on an individual system. We're not all made of money. This could have been an awesome family game but instead it sits collecting dust because as an adult I don't have the time, patience or selfishness to sit there when I could be spending time with my kids. We love gaming together but I feel like I wasted my money on this.

Re: Feature: Best Game Boy Advance (GBA) Games

jrb363

The RPG's on the GBA are quite simply amazing. Golden Sun holds a very special place in my heart as it's the first RPG I ever beat all the way through. I'm still dreaming of a HD (4k?) full on remake that will... probably never happen.

Also the GBA version of Mario Tennis is my favorite sports game of all time.

Re: A 'Pro' Switch With More Power Might Not Even Be Fully Utilised, Says Industry Veteran

jrb363

@sixrings To be honest, anything I feel like I'd 'miss out' on graphically I'd pick up on PC or my One X. The only exception being Nintendo titles, if they were restricted in some way by the new systems. Hopefully that wouldn't happen so...in short, no.

I get the desire for more power, I guess I'm just currently 100% happy with what the Switch is and don't think Nintendo getting into an arms race they would lose or adding confusion to a VERY strong brand in the Switch would do them well.

Think Sega and their issues with the Genesis/CD/32X. I know, a different time with different failings but for the average person the Switch, as it currently is just 'works' and I'd hate to see that get lost until a true successor is ready.

Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Not The Zelda Game You Want, But Perhaps The One You Need

jrb363

Looks like it'll be well worth picking up during a future sale, possibly next year on Black Friday.

I hope we're 2-3 years out from a true Switch successor, simply because I'm loving seeing Nintendo have one dominating console and would hate for things to split off when they're going so well.

That being said, when they DO release a new console I hope it's like the 3DS in that it's 100% BC with all Switch titles (including digital store) with Microsoft style upgrades of natively better/locked framerate for titles like this that need the extra power at times.

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

jrb363

Newbie here but I've been gaming for ~30 years now.

I own two Wii U systems! Both the black 32GB and a physical copy of nearly every title Nintendo released for the system.

It's basically the equivalent of the Sega Dreamcast for me. Underrated, misunderstood, no chance against the marketing power of Sony/Microsoft being at the top of their game. But quality 1st/2nd party titles that are thankfully getting much deserved love on the Switch.
