This year will be the fifth edition of The Game Awards and the focus is on making it bigger and better. The event organisers intend to do this by expanding the show's reach across multiple digital platforms, bringing back the live orchestra and allowing new ways for viewers to vote and interact. That's not all, though.
In a brief promo video posted on Geoff Keighley's Twitter account, the one and only host revealed more new games than ever before would be announced at the show. His tweet was a tad more precise, revealing more than ten games are expected. Take a look at the full clip in the tweet below:
In September, Keighley posted a photo on his own Twitter account with Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé and celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. Of course, because Reggie was wearing a shirt with a Metroid logo on it at the time, this fueled speculation Metroid Prime 4 would be revealed at this year's Game Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on 6th December.
In case you missed it, be sure to check out the full list of nominations. Octopath Traveler is up for three awards and Nintendo is set to take out the best family game award.
Do you think Metroid Prime 4 could be one of these "new" games announced, or even showcased? What other Switch related announcements would you like to hear? Tell us below.

Bayonetta 3 please
I'd love to see more from Three Houses and MP4, but what I'm really curious about is that unannounced medieval game Monolith Soft is working on.
....Let me guess, Nintendo isn't announcing anything.
I'm so sick of media and fan hypes that announcements like these just leave me stone cold inside. We'll see.
I would guess we already know most of Nintendo’s core line up for next year: Yoshi, Fire Emblem, Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, SMBU, and maybe Bayonetta 3 and/or Metroid. To announce anything 1st party before E3 would seem a bit premature. I guess we could have 3rd party reveals or more information about already known games, but I won’t be sitting in anticipation to watch the whole thing.
Fifth Blazblue Franchise announcement?
This same article is on Push Square which tempers my enthusiasm somewhat.
Where oh where is Pikmin 4, I would love for the original 3 to come to Switch too.
@MrGawain I'd bet Nintendo will want around 12 first party titles next year. There've been like 6 confirmed and maybe 8 with Bayonetta 3 and Metroid so possibly we'll get a few more. This year I think there was a total of 11 first party titles, though 3 were Labo titles.
We could see the sequel to Detective Pikachu next year since the movie is coming out in May. It would be a good opportunity to capitalize and Creatures hasn't put out a game in a while.
Kind of hope they announce Spyro for the Switch here finally to be honest. And give more details about when we can expect Final Fantasy VII, IX and X, X-II to come, and if they'll get a physical release. Really looking forward to having IX in particular on s Nintendo platform at long last. I don't know how likely it is for these announcements to be made at this show though.
Third person games with loads of foliage where people roam around rubble with microtransactions, a couple of FPSs and....?
Finally. Pikmin 4.
If we'll see anything Switch related I would guess either a Wonderful 101 remake, Zelda: Skyward Sword remake or Metroid Prime: Trilogy remake.
Or another Bayonetta 3 tease.
I like Geoff Keighly and I am glad his Game Awards show continues to get bigger each year. It isn't something I would actually watch though, simply because of the broadcast time and I find all awards shows to be very cringey.
But I look forward to watching snippets and seeing what games get announced for all consoles.
@Joeynator3000
Cranky Kong Racing.
Ten Nintendo Online NES games
Yes but the 10 games could be all Xbox games
Genuine question: I'm not familiar with past events, have big games been announced here before? Or is it usually smaller/indie stuff?
Breath of the Wild was first shown at the VGA
@Fandabidozi
Why? Did you think all 10+ games would be Nintendo titles?
Predictions
The Witcher 3 from Panic Button
GTAV from Panic Button
Resident Evil 7 from Panic Button
I reckon there'll a surprise or 2 as well,something from Panic Button.
I don't think Nintendo will announce anything at the Game Awards. I'd love it if they did, but I just can't see it happening. The focus is firmly on Smash Bros. and they won't want anything to distract from that.
There will surely be a Nintendo Direct in January (hopefully early January!) and that will have more details on the first 6 months of 2019... That's the most likely place that we will hear about Yoshi, more Fire Emblem, and I suspect a couple of new Nintendo ports.
Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Metroid, whatever Retro Studios are doing, major 3rd party release, major 3rd party port, Bayonetta, Pikmin, Star Fox Grand Prix (lol) and co. is surely all second half of 2019 and will feature at E3. Incidentally, 2019 is looking like an insane year for Nintendo... I think it'll have a slow start, but come June, we look set to have a AAA first party each and every month of the year!
@Joeynator3000 Nintendo will announce.... more smash content
Somebody go press Wolfgang for information. Did he hear Reggie mutter something about Metroid between bites of his crabcake? Gotta get to the bottom of this 🕵️♂️
Tingle for Smash DLC most likely
I'd love to see some news on Bayonetta 3. Played both games for the first time on Switch and I loved them. And other than that a new Switch exclusive 3rd party announcement would be awesome but I won't hold my breath. I'm just gonna relax and enjoy the show.
I think we'll get news on Skyward Sword (released during the show..?), and what I really want is a Prime Trilogy HD but I don't see both ports being announced at the same time as they'll be trying not to be seen as just a port machine. So, one or the other is fine with me for the moment too.
Skyward Sword in a bundle with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess would be tidy also...
@frabbit I hope you're right, as that would be awesome!
Sonic Adventure 3 exclusive to Switch?
Nintendo is leaving home consoles and will announce their new line of pachinko machines. Like konami.
What's with the snarky comments here? Apparently Nintendo has to announce a potentially 90% + game every week and even then it would be "just okay". 🙄
Surely Mario Maker is finally announced...
The big surprise announcement: Eternal Darkness 2
@welshland but it was announced at E3
I guess I can watch this before I head to the Smash midnight release.
10 new games? They better be games we had not heard about, no Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 which we already know are coming. I want new games like F-Zero Switch, Pikmin 4, Eternal Darkness Remastered or ET2, Fatal Frame Collection or FF4 & 5 Remastered, Mother/EarthBound Trilogy, Star Fox 3, The Wonderful 102, Madworld 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2, Sonic Adventure 3, Baten Kaitos 3, Last Story 2, etc.
Smash DLC pass’s first character
Blizzard will announce World of Warcraft Mobile! You heard it here first!
If they announce one, just one, of the following, I will loss my @&£/.
Pikmin4
StarFox Racing
Waverace Switch
Eternal Darkness 2
Diddy Kong Racing
Would be a surprise to me if Nintendo reveal anything at the awards - goes against their tried and true method of ‘Direct’ reveals no?
I don’t for a minute think that means they don’t have some more surprises stuffed up Reggie’s sleeves though - the advance wars, biker mice from mars, pokemon conquest and mario strikers remakes will surely be announced soon. Surely.
Cranky Kong is the first dlc in smash O.o
@Ooccoo_Jr
Bayo 3 was announced at one of these (i think) and BOTW's second dlc got a surprise release the same day after it was revealed there.
Also Cranky Kong in DKCTF
Good stuff. I'm happy there's an awards show for games that is starting to be taken as seriously as for other mediums.
@MysticGengar Ok thanks. Perhaps a teaser trailer for an already known game like Bayo 3 or Metroid 4 would be a more realistic thing to hope for by the sounds of it. Maybe some multi-platform third party stuff or Mario Odyssey DLC?
Wouldn't it be funny if they dropped mother 3 on e-shop at the game awards, one of these days it will happen!
Hmm.... We'll see. I refuse to speculate - don't wanna disappoint myself. 😜 I might tune in on and off during the evening.
@Ooccoo_Jr Mario Odyssey DLC is a good shout and much needed. They revealed the BOTW DLC on there.
I'm hoping for Super Luigi U type DLC for Odyssey with tight, challenging level based worlds. Like Galaxy 2 but more challenging. If they add Yoshi, even better.
No, I don't think they're going to show Metroid Prime 4.
Perhaps, maybe, just maybe they'll finally show us what has become of Pikmin 4, but I'm expecting no bomb shell/large announcements, so the rest of these 10 brand new games will probably be smaller games, indies, ports and/or remakes.
Might even be that they're going to back-pedal on that "at this moment" we've nothing to announce concerning a Skyward Sword remake...
My cousin's, uncle's, son said he found this leaked script for the game awards:
Reggie walks on stage, "Good evening. People love the Switch and it is my pleasure to talk about another reason that long time fans of the Metroid series are going to love the Switch. I am, of course, talking about the NES online service we're you can play, the original Metroid game right now on the Nintendo Switch."
Trailer plays for NES Online, Reggie gives parting words and exits.
METROID PRIME 4 PLEASE.
@Ooccoo_Jr
Mario Odyssey DLC makes a surprising amount of sense when you consider last year.
@OorWullie @MysticGengar Here's hoping. Mario DLC does seem a no-brainer but that's probably reason enough for Nintendo not to do it. I agree some extra tough Luigi style worlds would be perfect, but I'm not sure how well DLC sells, which may put the kibosh on it.
@Ooccoo_Jr
I can see a 'mega tower challenge' like thing like BOTW master trials. another kingdom, per say delfino plaza launching in the summer or something like that is also something I can see working. If anything else, they will just announce the Pirahna plant release date and maybe a new DLC fighter for Smash.
Just make sure bring the Pepto-Bismol, because this show will have GaaS.
I hope we get more Bayonetta 3 updates and maybe gameplay.
Please let at least one of them be Nintendo!!! But, I'll try not to get my hopes up.
@BrettAwesome
Cleary not no.
Its the perfect time for the release of bayonetta and metroid prime trailers, c'mon guys.
My Nintendo predictions are:
Odyssey DLC - Preorderable or purchasable after the event
Bayonetta 3 trailer
Smash Ultimate launch trailer
Wii U port releasing in February 2019
Predictions:
Knack 3
CODENAME S.T.E.A.M. 2: Extra Steamy
Metroid Prime: Yet Another M
I just want a tease of whatever MonolithSoft is working on. They certainly have multiple games in development, since Xenoblade Chronicles 2 released just two years after X was released. We need a 2019 game from MonolithSoft.
What I expect: Smash Ultimate Fighter Pass Character Announcement, MP4 Gameplay Trailer, Bayonetta 3 Gameplay Trailer, Maybe something on Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and Luigi's Mansion
What I want: Just give me a new freaking F-Zero.
