Once a PlayStation 4 exclusive, RiME has now gone multi-platform and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Ahead of the console's full unveiling IGN has posted the opening segment of the game, which - to us, at least - feels like a cross between Zelda, ICO and Journey. That's certainly no bad thing.
The footage shows how the player can interact with their surroundings and showcases some lovely animation, great level design and some interesting environmental puzzles. While it's highly unlikely that this is Nintendo Switch footage, it does at least give you an idea of the scope of the game and what it will be like to play when it arrives on Nintendo's console.

The cartoonish art style certainly reminds me of Wind Waker - which is a wonderful thing. Looks good so far, looking forward to it's release on the Switch.
"I'll take you to the seven seas of RiME!"
I had absolutely no interest in this game... and then I saw the re-reveal trailer. Now I'm super excited to get my hands on this game!
You can tell it's the PS4 version due to the button prompts that pop up.
The art style sure is stunning, but I think I'll wait on reviews. It would be the Switch version all the way though.
Looks good, but I'll probably have too much other stuff to play when it does come to the Switch to get it straight away... probably wait until it's on sale.
Watched a tiny bit of that video yesterday but only to get an idea how smooth the framerate is and how the game runs in general. It looks gorgeous but don't want to spoil things.
Very nice, looks right up my alley. To think I will be playing this,Yooka Laylee and Sonic Mania along with 3D Mario and Zelda on that awesome looking Pro controller all within a short few months is an exciting thought.
This game was not on my radar, but after seeing the gameplay, I'm very interested!
Are all games on Switch going to be open world adventures? Probably not Mario.
Seriously, though, this looks great and it's good to have it on a Nintendo platform. Seems like a good fit.
So...why did Sony drop it again? Must be crap right?
I'm actually slightly disappointed personally. This is a game I was genuinely excited about, as you can see below:

However, something about it during actual play just seems a bit off: It seems kind of shallow and "empty" to me, very "surface-ish", with little to do in the world beyond solving one puzzles to move onto the next puzzle, which even itself doesn't look particularly compelling or "fun" to do—at least not to me and based on these first 25 mins.
I don't feel like it would be much fun to play around in this world in and of itself, and that's really important to me in any videogame, especially ones with large worlds like this. It's that "thing", the "magic" that needs to be underneath what you see, hear, and think the game is at a casual glance, that makes it something more than the sum of its parts—a thing that most great Nintendo games have in abundance—and it appears to be lacking here. But it's really hard to explain what that "thing" is and why it looks like it might be missing here; you'll either get what I mean or you won't.
So, sure, it looks extremely pretty (certainly in the screenshots and trailers if not quite so much during actual gameplay for whatever reason), and it sounds great too, but that's only the first thing I'm looking for in games like this.
It doesn't look like a bad game, and it's obvious a lot of love has been poured into it, but it's certainly no "Journey" (just an example of a similar-ish game that immediately comes to mind and that does have that "thing" and "magic" imo); that's for sure.
@aaronsullivan It actually appears to be a game such as Super Mario 3D World. I wouldn't be surprised if they went the Mario Sunshine direction with it though.
Immediately made me think of Mysterious Cities of Gold!
Looks great but i'm swamped as it is with games I need to finish or even open. I will be a day one switch user but maybe just the Mario game and breath of the wild. I should make a rule "no switch till I beat xenoblade chronicles x". lol
@BionicDodo I'm glad you said that,i was thinking the same thing but couldn't remember the name of the cartoon.I had the words sun, gold and temple in my head but couldn't get the title.Cheers
Is this the game surrounded by controversy, with one Nintendo news website even announcing they would stop reporting on the game?
@OorWullie
Wait Sonic Mania is coming to Switch? Thought it was only the unamed Sonic 2017.
Why are they just trying to copy Zelda? :/
@Witherfox It's not been confirmed but that Gamestop leak the other day had Sonic (unamed) down for March and Project Sonic sometime in 2017.Unless we're getting another Sonic game we don't know about yet.Even if that leak was fake,I'm confident we'll see it on Friday or it'll be announced in the days after.
Never judge a book by its cover, so I won't. Still I'm prepared for the hate and backlash for what I'm going to say instead of just staying silent and ignoring this article - I just don't like this kind of style and I'm probably in the very small percentage of people not so excited about the new Zelda (but since I know what Zelda gameplay is like I'm not so focused on the artstyle). I don't know why but it somehow bucks me so much. The game may (and probably will) be good even beyond our expectations on the Switch, but it still ticks me off somehow. Yeah right. I just said the same thing twice, but I don't know how else to explain how I feel about it. And I don't want to be the judgemental troll that anonymously hides behind monitor, hating on something I didn't even try yet. I think I need some time like always to get used to it. Actually I think those wild pigs looks pretty darn cute. And if it's storyline wise something similiar to Journey, I might pick it up when it's released for the Switch.
@BornInNorway81 No that's Seasons of Heaven which if it comes to be,is supposed to be a Wii U exclusive. This title has had it's own troubles though, from what little I've read about it,it was originally a PS4 exclusive and had been given a lot of attention from Sony but after a lot of time had passed,Sony cancelled it for some reason or other and it's now back as a multi platform game.
Based on this video ONLY:
Pros: pretty.
Cons: boring, unnoriginal, lifeless. Generic.
@OorWullie Thank you for the information!
@BLP_Software Sony haven't dropped it, it's just not exclusive to the PS4... meaning it can go to any console it wants (but it's still on PS4). This could be for any number of reasons.
I think the issue is probably sales, however that says more about marketing than anything else. Much like movies, some of the best games don't sell well in their time.
@DanteSolablood well that can be for any number f reasons. Sony and marketing are odd bedfellows. They push others work more than their own, send out anything that isnt their main box out to die with expectation having PS on it sells things and they could even be burned from previous things like this that they wrangled up.
Also, you mentioned Sony and movies in the same sentence as their gaming division. Thats two very polar opposite sides of that business in terms o success. Maybe they should share
@BLP_Software I wasn't specifically mentioning Sony Pictures, I meant movies in general. There are some amazing movies that fail at the box office through bad marketing (Live, Die, Repeat) and some terrible movies that make bank despite being terrible (insert Transformers movie here).
@DanteSolablood Sorry. I know ya meant movies generally. I just see movies and Sony in a paragraph and laugh because thats a glorious trainwreck. Even if some of their stuff is actualy okay.
I know lots kind of get overlooked. Same happens in gaming.
Personally I think the developer wasnt willing tobwnd over backwards for Sony and went multiplat, and/or Sony realised they have to market some first party stuff after Uncharted 4.
I may have to get this on Switch. It looks beautiful. Reminds me a lot of Windwaker.
This looks great! I didn't think much of what I saw a while back but I'm definitely interested now. Although, I'll (hopefully) still be too busy playing Zelda to buy it when it comes out.
I mean, yeah it looks nice enough. But I'm hardly enthralled by the gameplay so far.
Still looks like a great game! However, I'll get it on PS4 first (since it's getting a retail release on it and for trophies) but if it's really addictive for me, I'll purchase it on Switch too! There's been quite a few games that have been addictive for me, that I purchased on multiple consoles...You Don't Know Jack, Ducktales Remastered, Mutant Mudds and so on and so on! If they're good for me, I'll take them on the 'go' too!
Windfall-island beach, check. Tower of the gods, check. Aryll shouting, check. Lol.
But seriously, the game looks pretty nice!
@OorWullie that's interesting. I thought Seasons of Heaven was for Switch.
Anyways, with this game being cancelled by Sony and now coming to the NS, maybe Scalebound will follow suit.
@Koudai1979 It is indeed a Switch release and that's what I meant to write. No idea why I wrote Wii U haha
@OorWullie lol
