Re: Nintendo "Has Interest" In NFTs And The 'Metaverse'

falkyn

Imagine that copy of the old zelda game that sold for a bunch of money in an Earth auction. Now imagine the original coding script for that same old zelda game recoded to play on Mars (where the Earth version can't play on Mars, but the Martian version can also play on Earth) being put up for auction 30 years from now.

Re: Talking Point: Triangle Strategy Is A Bad Name, Which Hopefully Won't Matter

falkyn

My guess is that it is an attempt by square enix to appeal to an even broader audience which includes those who can't speak English. Triangle Strategy reduces any chance for confusion, thereby decreasing any chance someone might feel offended for not understanding a title with a different name.

To name it Final Fantasy Tactics 2, or to continue too much with the Final Fantasy name might beckon to the thought that square enix is too Japanese - thereby making people who aren't inclined to contribute to Japan to not purchase this game, thereby decreasing the potential sales for this product and square enix ultimately.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Raises The Question - How Much Do Janky Graphics Matter?

falkyn

@blindsquarel A couple of things here: I don't think the graphics look mediocre - I enjoy broad strokes.
Also, if devs kept following complaints about graphics then they'd have to keep their focus on graphics instead of focusing on getting the consumer base to switch over to the Japanese version of the game - where there is no lack of detail for consumers to get busy with.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Raises The Question - How Much Do Janky Graphics Matter?

falkyn

There's one thing that shouldn't be ignored. Japan would like to have more people learn the Japanese language. If Japan, through Nintendo, only focused graphical fidelity, and ignored that none of their consumer base is bothering learning any Japanese, then they would only have themselves to blame for leading their followers in that direction. There's an entire game that Arceus seems to be providing hints toward - try playing it in Japanese text instead. Seems like Japan needs more culture, not necessarily more money.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Biggest Gaming Regrets

falkyn

I regret not taking on computer sciences in undergrad. I would adore the convenience of working from home.

A redeeming note would be to continue learning Japanese as a language, pass the proficiency exam, and get a job as a translator for the Japanese gaming industry.

..after I finish this damn health care doctorate.. :Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.:

Re: Talking Point: What Could NFTs Mean For Gaming, And Why Are They So Divisive?

falkyn

My usecase for NFTs and blockchain technology in general is simply to leave my own personalized digital footprint on a superior record keeping system. The metaverse records every single action you make on it and will keep it forever. Like, a forever in a tougher cement than what the current internet can provide for anyone who wants a memory of themselves kept in any idea of an eternity.

Re: Dying Light 2 Will Take At Least 500 Hours To "Fully Complete"

falkyn

back in the day, completionists were applauded for their accomplishment. now, it seems more likely than not, games are designed as bear traps against completionists - labeling them as murderers, tyrants, never to step foot back into a reality made by the society who dare not cross beyond what they think is too far. fk, i thought i was just a nerd playing on a nintendo switch..

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

@jojobar NFTs don't need anything else to exist on a blockchain. Just like if you saved a picture in your desktop folder, then you can open your folder and look at the picture. If you want to open your picture in your folder in a program like photoshop, then you could. but the picture doesn't need photoshop to exist in your folder. NFTs are stored in blockchain - blockchain is the structure of the next stratosphere of internet beyond the capabilities of centralized data storing. Games can be made after the fact to utilize NFTs in the blockchain space.

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

@jojobar Say for instance you have a screenshot of a game you played. You could save it today on google drive and google will store it for you. Google then can blow up in a bomb and be gone tomorrow, then you will have lost your screenshot that you gave to them to store. If you stored it instead on a blockchain, there is no single source that can blow up where you lose access to your screenshot so long as you keep the key that gives you access to it - you could then simply access it from a different part of the chain - hence, decentralization. Nintendo is also guilty of this. If Nintendo blew up today, then no one has access to Nintendo thereafter since it is a centralized system.

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

@Ogbert competition already exists within the blockchain realm to make owning majority in anything for manipulation a non-existential threat concern like a rug pull insignificant with the existence of the multiple blockchains in the decentralized space - for instance, square enix isn't associated with ethereum 2.0 proof of stake, it is associated with double jump.tokyo on the flow blockchain instead.

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

@icomma Are you not aware of Ethereum 2.0 that will make the mechanism of mining also obsolete? The environmental impact argument is dated to the proof-of-work model found with blockchains like bitcoin, however the proof-of-stake model, which are unique to evolved blockchains, solves this problem, no longer needing gpu-revving machines to power its processing.

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

@jojobar no. blockchain tech fundamentally is decentralized where no single hub source shutting down can do anything about the information already stored on the chain. ubisoft shutting down servers to take down data is a centralized premise, which is why blockchain tech is needed to emerge to fight against any tyrannic foundation.

Re: Square Enix President Knows You Hate NFTs Because You "Play To Have Fun"

falkyn

I think a lot of people are missing the point for NFTs and are jumping on a bandwagon that is dissing it for the bandwagon's sake.

The idea to own a creation with a unique digital signature that will outlast any archive attempting to store data without blockchain technology is the raddest sci-fi creation that we puny mortals can do for the history of human civilization.

Am I mistaken? The library of Alexandria fell. Blockchain tech filled with NFTs and a token economy shuttling it won't fall.

What am I missing? How is this not cooler than squids trying to lick each other's ears and eyeballs with no trace of proof to show for it?

Re: Best Of 2021: Treasure Games That Need Switch Ports Or Sequels

falkyn

@gazamataz ikaruga needs to be studied and performed like orchestral memorization bar by bar. not like ninja gaiden which hones cat-like reflexes, no memorization needed - which I found is natural and preferred. memorization? sheesh, seems more appropriate to have someone pay me to get good at ikaruga.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Game Awards 2021?

falkyn

The Game Awards is exactly only an advert for games except only acknowledging that it involves more than the audience that it typically is associated with it - that being only kids. It's a celebration for the gaming industry expanding more into universal popular culture.

Re: Feature: A Link To The Past's Dark World Changed Zelda Forever

falkyn

i don't get some games. like in dance dance revolution or osu!, you are encouraged to keep going to harder difficulties for some crazy footwork triumphs. but some other games, the devs choose to curse your main character - like astral chain - if you move beyond the introduction level. i guess that's the problem when you attach stories to software programs. you must miss out on potential to preserve the life, a page, in a book destined to end. then you get to the idea of creating a book within that page of the other book destined to end. then you get to the idea of creating a book within that book within that page of the other book destined to end... ok nevermind - whatever, where's my food?

Re: The Pokémon Creative Team Has Been "Through A Lot" With Angry Fan Feedback

falkyn

@13AM_Alex I encounter many programs with devs keeping most of the play files locked behind "curses" players need to cast upon themselves in order to gain access. ::sigh:: like, in astral chain, for example.. you're literally limited access to File 1 and part of File 2 where you're only allowed to control your character's fight buttons in a training room without any baddies. You can't get access to the rest of File 2-File 12 without placing mud on any sense of conscience you might have.
