"have been based on the PS3 or 360 instalment, given that Nintendo's console is a closer match in terms of technological power to those systems than it is to recently-released "next gen" platforms."
What would power have to do with it? The Wii U is closer to feature set of the xBone and PS4 than it is to PS360... The Wii U will be able to handle anything they can throw at it in 720p. The same thing effects/render that can be displayed at 1080p on the PS4 should have no trouble at all at 720p on the Wii U. Both use the same identical OpenGL 4.3 level of effects, shaders, tesselation, displacement mapping, etc.
This idea that power is what is holding the Wii U back is nonsense. It does exactly what it was designed to do, which is 720p gaming.
@Daemonite not everyone likes dudebro games. I game on PC/WiiU/3DS and not one single game announced for the ps4/xBone even looks the slightest bit interesting... Certainly not interesting enough to shell out $400 for an underpowered console that the manufacturer is trying to sell like its a high performance device.... At least Nintendo isn't trying to sell the Wii U as something that it's not. It's a fun and an interesting platform for playing Nintendo games.
I think the 8bit art style has been overplayed quite too many times in recent years.... I grew up gaming in the 8bit era, and while it was cool at first to see 8bit throw backs in new games, I think it worn out its welcome.... I have a mountain of 8bit games from my childhood that I can play at any time on VC.
Sorry if people are still digging it, but there is already a billion awesome 8 bit titles available. Do we really need more?
@belmont no, Bayo 2 will never see a release on PS4 or xBone. It's on Wii U until the end of time.... It may show up on VC 20 years from now, but it will remain on a Nintendo platform for life.
@GunstarHero234 shoving something down someone's throat would be like what Obama did with healthcare, by forcing everyone into it and removing all matter of choice from the equation. Buying video games is still a matter of 100% free will, a voluntary agreement between two parties.
@GunstarHero234 shoving down your throat? In what way? Retro/Nintendo makes a game. You have the option to purchase it or not. Nobody is forcing you to purchase it, you are free to buy or not buy. That's how capitalism works.
excellent. It has piqued my interest... So I'm guessing this is kinda like Metroid but you are inside a spaceship at all times, exploring deep desolate space.
@Peach64 I respectfully disagree. Adding modern shading and lighting effects to Wind Waker made the game pop. It's ok on dolphin, it's breathtaking in their HD remake
@Nico07 Just to clear things up, this device doesn't make your N64 games in HD, it only allows you to use your DVI, HDMI or VGA output device on the N64, it will still be locked at 480p
@HyperSonicEXE how about a full economic collapse on a bigger scale than 2008? Because that is on its way. That should knock Wall Street back a few pegs as well.
@Kirk we had them at work around that time. It was cool to see the simulation programs Lockheed Martin was doing with them... I remember looking at it thinking, someday we will be playing video games that look like that. PC gaming hit that point a few years later, consoles didn't get to that point until 10 years later
@JohnRedcorn why would 3rd party games ever matter on a Nintendo console? In fact why ever play third party games on any console? The 30fps ghetto is no way to go through life.
@Shworange Nintendo should do their own version of Infinity, not Skylanders...
Building your own Mushroom Kingdom and then sending Link to traverse through it? EPIC... But being a Nintendo game, would it even have internet multiplayer?
@Emblem Apple does enforce copyright, and puts actual effort in policing the iOS store. it's google play that barely moves a muscle to police anything.... Play even allows developers to stick spyware/adware in software, which I find beyond the pale. Having to clean out my wife's samsung every month because it starts pop up advertising to her without her consent (yeah I know they hide that in the EULA) is annoying. I'm going to switch her to ios, so I don't have to play wack a mole with spyware.
@rjejr the DS games will look terrible too on Wii U. I can't possibly see why people want to play ultra blocky versions of these games when their 3DS will play them just fine and look about as close to the original as possible.
I rather see n64 and GameCube games on Wii U VC as well. It makes much more sense than DS games on the VC. DS games should come out on the 3DS virtual console, that would make much more sense.... N64 games might look terrible, but GameCube games will look amazing on the gamepad's 480p screen.
@Hy8ogen I don't think Wii U will get MH4... My guess is they will do this like they did in Japan. MH4 goes to 3DS and Wii U will get frontier..... I'm all for trying out Frontier. It fixes all my complaints about MH3U
"no doubt in part to celebrate the recent confirmation that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is coming to the 3DS in Europe and North America in early 2015."
Maybe he can confirm Monster Hunter Frontier for Wii U in North America and Europe for this year so I have something to play on my Wii U until X is released.
@rjejr I think the HD fur was finished back at E3, we saw a lot of it then.... I'm glad they did add real fur. Compare it to Sakurai's DK model, it's a million times better. If Retro just stuck with Sakurai's lazy DK model I think lots of people would have been disappointed in the game.
@sadsack777 Metroid bombed the last time it was released. Nintendo isn't a charity, they need big sales, not a couple hundred thousand copies to scratch a an itch some niche gamers want.
Face it, we are in the minority, we spoke with our wallets that we don't want Metroid, Starfox, Fzero and other franchises we didn't buy when Nintendo released them
@SetupDisk AGREED. Rayman Legends was only a slight step up in difficulty from Kirby's epic yarn.... I was sooooo wanting to enjoy this Rayman game that everyone was raving about..... And finally I played through it and just said "meh"
What I learned is most platforming fans want an easy cake walk Platformer, as proven by Rayman Legends popularity.... Few want a game to make you so angry you want to throw your controller in a rage quit, as proven by only 30k People in Japan want DKCRTF
Tropical Freeze is going to be the first real 2D Platformer I played since New Luigi U
@Doma it won't be ported to 3ds, that much is guaranteed. The dynamic camera would choke the 3ds. The 3ds barely ran DKCR as it was. 30fps with frame rate stutters. I have it on 3ds, it's a fun game but the 3ds's poor performance (ie: no 60fps) makes playing it a bit jarring.
@MAN1AC I don't doubt its a good game, but if I didn't know anything about Bravely Default and they said its like Glee or 90210, I would seriously pass.
I still cannot figure out why this game received such high praise. It's a 7 at best.
Thankfully I rented it. I would have purchased it last February regardless. The art style looked on par as Ren and Stimpy. Gameplay was pretty flat with zero difficulty. If a platformer doesn't have me rage quitting, then it's a terrible platformer.(I did finish the game and didn't find a single level challenging)
@Action51 it's personal preference. Some people rather play 100 mediocre "triple a" games on playstation and xBone. I play those boring titles on my PC. Nintendo consoles tend to have much better games, granted not very many games in all, but that's ok, I only buy consoles for exclusives. A and playstation and xBone exclusives are pretty boring from what I've played so far
@Neo-GeoFan no, it's not odd, sales collapsed from Christmas for all three.... The idea that the PS4/xBone will sell 10 million by Xmas '14 is some serious fanboy wishful thinking.
If sales keep dropping for all three systems I think it paints a broader picture of the industry. The Sony/xBone fanboys were bragging the new systems will sell a million per month. I'm going to predict February OS going to look worse, Wii U will hold its ghastly 50k, maybe a slight improvement
@rjejr its hard to say when development on this started... If it started just after Xenoblade's release in Japan that's a quite a lot of development already put into it.
But just from how much of the game is built (assets, logic/programming/engine/sound/music) I'd say all of the resource hog and time consuming components are completed. We saw earlier posts of monolith soft putting out job applications for multiple positions, so it seems its in crunch time. Including a senior network programmer with experience in programming online games.
My guess is its going to be a fall release along side Bayo2. With Smash their big holiday game
@WiiLovePeace let's try not to lose our heads... The talking got on my nerves after 2 hours. I switched the voices to Japanese and read subtitles from that point forward. Made the experience so much more enjoyable.
I see no reason why Nintendo can't get this localized fairly quickly. The Nintendo treehouse is one of the largest localize teams in gaming. And there is no reason why it can't happen in parallel with the development of the game.
It looks like most of the big pieces of the title is finished. Fall 2014 doesn't seem implausible.
@Three4Flinching @AcesHigh73 blame the EU. They have ridiculous hoops to jump through and costs some serious coin for a dev to get a game approved and released. It's not his fault, it's your governments fault.
@Maneauleau Nintendo needs to start offering to pay for localization of Japanese third party games since western devs gave up on Wii U.... It would help fill out the release schedule for a minimal investment. But you know. Nintendo.
Lots of stellar games in Japan like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter Frontier that would keep us fat and happy over here.
