@King47 I don't think its indicative of being rushed. My best guess is to shore up the online component. Maybe they noticed some lag that was jarring and need a bit more expertise than what their programmers know.
@Reala good thing everyone has different tastes because adding an online component to an RPG extends the life of the game far beyond just the campaign..... I hope they go full bore and have PvP involved so I can shank people from behind who are minding their own business leveling up.
@Peach64 online can be added after asset creation..... My guess is they developed the online already but it isn't performing as well as they want it to so they are reaching out to find more expertise in network programming to bring the online code up to snuff.
Does the listing mention they are looking to fill multiple positions or just one. If it's just one it's most certainly more on the consulting side to beef up the online.... What we saw in January and E3 it looks like it has online already, we saw aliases above characters and what looked like a chat box.
While I agree on the low install base argument because that's business but explain the. "lacks proper next-gen graphics"
@Kirk please explain what "proper next gen graphics" are because the Wii U supports the same OpenGL 4.3 API as ps4. Same lighting/shading technology and same effects as ps4. I'm curious what is this mystery graphics that the Wii U doesn't support....can't be 1080p/60fps gaming as both the xBone/ps4 is struggling (failing) to hit that litmus test that Sony and Microsoft fangirls assigned to "real Nextgen" back in February 2013/May 2013 at the announcement of those machines....
I'm generally curious now because looking at the changelog for the Wii U version of Project CARS it clearly shows it's using the same shading/lighting as the ps4/xBone editions. The only difference I see is resolution and post processing effects (AA), which both of those things don't make the graphics appear drastically different. So it can't be that.
@KYUSS it has nothing to do with buying servers. Throwing up 3 or 4 dedicated servers is cheap.
They left online out because of the schedule. The Wii U needed this game before Black Friday and adding online to this would have increased the development time as they tested a hundred of levels online in a variety of different orders.
I don't get this argument.,.... Of course local multiplayer is always better than online, it always will be better, but that's not an argument for leaving out online play. Adding online play wouldn't have affected the local play one iota.
I do understand why it wasn't in there. Adding online would have pushed out the release date by a few months, and Wii U needed this game before Black Friday. But don't make the argument that it's not in there because adding online would have harmed local multi because that is just silly.
@MAB AAA refers to the budgets involved, not the creativity, originality or quality. So yes a lot of what is referred to as AAA is exactly that: an expensive game...... Most are "meh"
@AlexSora89 I think you are putting too much stock in a single game... The only thing to "save" the Wii U is a HUGE library of exclusives, not just one or two massive games.
@HeroOfCybertron I think you know the answer to that question.... If the Wii flopped we would have never seen this happen..... But since it was a smashing success every company wants a piece.....
I mean, why Nintendo? Why not go after Sony for 'Move' ? Because 'Move' was an abysmal failure.
@Nintenjoe64 that doesn't even make any sense. Why would an independent PC platform care too much about happens in the console space? Steambox isn't trying to replace anybody, just offer an easier solution to PC gamers, perhaps it will pouch a few gamers who don't want to live in the 30fps ghetto of Microsoft and Sony anymore.
@GoombaJMR software bugs are pretty common occurrence, no matter the talent behind it. But this isn't a Nintendo studio, they farmed this out to an indie studio
I can't say I like these announcements of announcements very much... It's like those meetings to discuss future meetings. If you working a massive corporation, you know exactly how silly and pointless those are.
@boynerdrambling isn't amazing? Nintendo getting blamed for third party products selling like poo... Sells like poo because the game isn't directed at a large enough audience on the console. They take these AAA games and sell them to an audience who for the most part doesn't care for it.....
What do these trolls expect Nintendo to do about it? Pay company's to put their multiplatform titles on their console? That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Multi plat games don't sell systems, exclusives do. Why would Nintendo be expected to money hat third party multiplatform games if other platform holders don't have to?
Not powerful enough? The Wii U is 2 to 3 times the horsepower of the subhd twins, so that's not the issue.... Some publishers or devs will use that as an excuse to avoid being honest, that they don't want to port a game because it won't be profitable enough.
So the only thing that seems to be Nintendo's fault is the install base. But that will grow over time as new exclusives are added to the library and the price comes down.
@Galactus Punch out on Wii uses the balance board? Holy smokes I'm buying a copy.... Do you have to use a nunchuck or can you use a secondary Wiimote for your left hand?
They figure more children own 3DS's, which is a safe assumption, but not very many kids are into JRPG's...... I bet the majority in North America who purchase this game will be over the age of 20.
@YChung Metroid, F-Zero, Starfox sold pitiful in their last console outings. If the fans really wanted them they should have bought the last ones that came out. Metroid is the only one that might come out by 2015/2016.... Starfox and Fzero sold less than 250,000 in their last console outing. Sales like that wouldn't even break even on the development costs in today's standards. Not a chance they will move millions of systems.
The fans of these series spoke with their wallets. I bought these, but it wasn't enough to convince Ninty to fund another one.
@MAN1AC who is to say he isn't or isn't planning to? ... Sure, he left Epic to take a break, but he won't be able to stay away from developing games for long. Probably will never be with Epic anymore, but that's ok with me....I hope he comes back as an indie developer.
@luckybreak I would give up on Nintendo completely if they went that route. Been playing there games for 30 years, but the model of buying the full game at once is the only business model I will ever participate in when it comes to most products.
@gregrout what death cinematic? I am almost 100 hours into Shin Megami Tensei IV and I haven't seen a death cinematic yet.
The game is great. How attached you become to Isabeau than having to do the unthinkable to her. Just heart wrenching. I don't think a video game has ever taken a toll on me emotionally before. Not even TLOU can compete with it.
Great list but I would vehemently disagree with Rayman Legends. Just way too easy. If a platformer doesn't have me wanting to throw my controller at the wall, then it's just not challenging enough for me to even enjoy..... I know the first 65% or of 3D World is super easy but the bonus levels is putting me through the grinder. Exactly what an excellent platformer should be.
@Sandro89 sounds like you haven't played very many of his games.... Jazz Jackrabbit was one of the more interesting platformers made... Previously all platformers were side view 2d scrollers, but cliffy b changed up the formula to have side 2d view and a 3D view from behind Jazz... So yes he was the first to do 3D platforming before Mario 64 was even in development.
Jazz Jackrabbit would have been wildly successful if he could have found a publisher to put it on a console. Then again, the SNES and genesis would have choked trying to run it.... Not bad for a 15 year old kid. I feel bad for all those console only gamers that missed out on such an amazing PC exclusive.
@StarDust nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Mario 64 had tiny levels compared to SM3DW. Galaxy for the majority of levels had only one path to finish line (or star) very linear. SM3DW most levels has multiple ways to reach the end. You can tackle levels in multiple ways.
@ACK but gamers just shrug their shoulders and make excuses for that company dropping the ball and losing credit card data, while when Nintendo's outage is a LOT less egregious its "OH MY GOD NINTENDO IS THE WORST COMPANY IN THE WORLD, I'M NEVER BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN".... Microsoft sold falty hardware to millions and as they were blowing up outside of warranty gamers just shrugged and bought another 360 console.... You know darn well if a Nintendo console was faulty on a scale that massive people would be going apopaclyptic on Nintendo.
@2Sang sounds like you don't know the difference between a remake and an upscaled port.... There is a very large difference.
When Sony re releases a game it's an upscaled port. Wind Waker needed new assets (backgrounds, maps and actual textures on some models/environment), new visual effects.
I played Wind Waker on Dolphin in 1080p a few months before the HD remake. Nintendo's remake smokes it. Dynamic lighting and shadows makes all the difference in the world. Dolphin Upscaling it to 1080p doesn't look much different than the original. But of course you knew that, you just like being facetious.
@B3ND3R Its a terrible shame SMT IV bombed so hard in the west. I'm still enjoying it immensely (almost 80 hours in)... I hope this chibi look isn't going to be Atlus's art style for Nintendo systems going forward. I can just picture them doing that SMT vs FE crossover in this art style... I think I would lose my lunch.
@erv You sure that has anything to do with America? Gamers in general feel entitled, and it doesn't matter where they come from. I find that people from more socialistic countries feel a larger sense of entitlement towards everything, hence why they elect people like Hollande, to steal from the productive and to distribute to the unproductive.
@AlexSays because when it's sony or Microsoft that's having issues, whether being hacked or red rings of death, the fanboys just make excuses for the company
"oh Sony must be updating PSN for a whole month to improve our experience, that's ok"..... Or "Microsoft put in a poor cooling system in the 360 and now the GPU and motherboard is fried... That's ok, I'll buy another"

@jos I was able to redeem my code for Pokemon Rumble on Wii U eshop...
(Stupid autocorrect) Wii U eshop up now, it allows me to purchase games now. I get all the way to the credit card screen, but there is nothing I want to buy just yet.... It looks most of the way fixed.
@JaySonsa1298 I agree that's my only complaint here. Nintendo should put out a press release that it will be back up around such and such.. It would make me stop retrying a million times to download my Xmas present
@PinkSpider "gamers" are so hypocritical. Playstation network (hacked) was down for a month, yet nobody made the same exclamations that they are returning the device and never buying from them again.... No, of course not, it's only because it's Nintendo they do this toward.... As you mentioned the red ring of death is even more egregious.. But nope, instead of boycotting Xbox, they go and buy 4 or 5 replacement boxes over the course of 7 years.
I'm thankful my wife got me the physical release of LBW... What a stellar game. It certainly deserves all those 9's and 10's... Although it's hard for me to say its better than SM3DW that some on here have claimed. ( I say that as a bigger Zelda fan and a so so Mario fan)... These two games are without a doubt my #1 and #2 games of the new generation so far on any system. So cheers to Nintendo for making such great games
@Night_Reaper77 I sympathize with your child. I picked up a 2DS for my nephew for Xmas, and I was trying to put $40 on his eshop account so we could download so,ethint last night, but it was down. So I gave him my copy of Luigis Mansion to keep him occupied. you should go pick up a physical game for your son so he has something to play until Nintendo sorts out there network issues... If I recall the same thing happened last year. I was really bummed because I wanted to play my Wii u my wife bought me last year, so I had to wait until the 26th to go to walmart to grab Assassins Creed 3. Seems silly to return a system that will give thousands of hours of pure gaming bliss over the next several years because of a temporary outage that happened to almost every company.
Btw I was able to get Pokemon rumble U to start downloading finally. You just have to keep trying over and over again and eventually it lets you in.
@PorllM introducing new IP should always come with a demo... There is lots of games on the eshop I'm interested in but don't want to take a risk on it.
The best method is to release your game and as the sales start to slow down, put out a demo to reel in others like me on the fence who want to try before I buy.
For retail I rent just about everything on gamefly, and if I like it I buy it... $60 is absurd to take a risk on with how many cash grabs are out there. Sonic Lost World for instance, I rented, played it for a few hours and sent it back. I would have been spitting mad if I bought this game blind with how it turned out (watch the nerd rage come at me for saying that)
We will have the noon update in North America in about an hour and 45 minutes. I really hope they have it ready than so I can pick up some VC goodness. Oh well back to LBW (what an addicting game

I would have been spitting mad if I bought this game blind with how it turned out (watch the nerd rage come at me for saying that)
Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan (3DS)
$20 on the eshop, Xmas special.. Is it worth it? I'm going to bite.
Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Network Issues and Suggests Patience

Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Network Issues and Suggests Patience
@vinylandtrinket I kept retrying the eshop until it let me in, but I can't purchase anything.
The purchase button just says loading
Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Network Issues and Suggests Patience
I read its the Pokemon bank in the Japanese eshop bringing down the servers... So they removed it.
I can get into the Wii U eShop, but I can't redeem one of the codes I got for Xmas.
