The news that Nintendo is bringing DS games to the Wii U had us dreaming of all the amazing titles we wanted to see arrive on the eShop.
Like some kind of benevolent moving-image god, our resident video guru Rory has transcoded these desires into magical lights and sound, and has lovingly deposited the results onto the internet for you all to enjoy (and before you say anything, no, we couldn't find any decent quality footage of New Super Mario Bros. so we used video of the Wii U version instead).
In case you'd forgotten, we presented the original list of ten games and then allowed you, the reader, to vote for the one you wanted the most. The video below presents the results in reverse order — try to guess which came out on top before pressing play, and let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.

Really need to play Dragon Quest!
Errm 999 ,hotel dusk, and last window i guess but tbh i think playing tgese games on their original format is prefferable,
You should its only about a fiver on amazon!
Question: Why was there footage of New Super Mario Bros. U during the New Super Mario Bros. bit?
@Damo , that 'New Super Mario Bros.' footage... it's from Mario Bros. U xD was that on purpose?
@SkywardCrowbar I noticed that as well. Also kinda defeats the point – why want to play an old version of NSMB when you can play a beautiful HD version on the WiiU.
Also Meteos is played with an emulator. You can clearly see the mouse cursor on the bottom screen instead of the stylus
I'm actually way more excited for N64 and GBA on VC than DS. I already have a system that plays DS games: my 3DS, and still have most of the 3DS games i would want to play.
Acouple exceptions would be Zelda: Spirit Tracks and the Advance Wars games. Never got around to getting those.
@Baum897 Yeah, those three are defos my most replayed! I love 'em!
Spirit Tracks? Really? The one with the effing Train? I still can't believe people bought it once, but apparently they want to buy it a second time?
Bah! Just so long as Meteos comes first, I guess it's fine.
These are 10 DS games I would want.
1.Elite Beat Agents
2.Elite Beat Agents
3.Elite Beat Agents
4.Elite Beat Agents
5.Elite Beat Agents
6.Elite Beat Agents
7.Elite Beat Agents
8.Elite Beat Agents
9.Elite Beat Agents
10.Elite Beat Agents
I guess you can say, I really want Elite Beat Agents. Nintendo, "HEEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!" with that problem please :3
While Chinatown wars would be nice, I'd prefer to get a Wii U enhanced GTAIV or V.
Advance Wars was my vote but GTA:CW is a close second.
I still don't really get the DS or GBA games on the Wii U thing, but I do love making lists, so I'll just list my favourite DS games that I want more people to play.
1. The Word Ends With You
2. 999
3. Advance Wars: Dual Strike
4. Elite Beat Agents
5. GTA: Chinatown Wars
6. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
7. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
8. Radiant Historia
9. Kirby's Canvas Curse
10. Dragon Quest IX
@Peach64 YES!
The World End with You.
@Peach64 You're at least missing Knights in the Nightmare and Contact. Otherwise pretty good.
The real question is why are there no DS games on the 3DS e-shop ??
@Peach64 @Ralek85 No kidding. It's not because of the whole "Wii U/3DS DS games" thing either but I really don't like Iwata. He just seems clueless. (And please don't flame; it's my opinion. No harm done.)
@Damo agreed on all 10, so thumbs up and I can well imagine the troubles of making a list of just 10 games, because I could EASILY make a top 30 of titles that are worthy of a (re-)release.
So, everybody wants DS games on the Wii U - via VC - but I can't get 3DS games on the Wii U b/c the image quality would be too bad on the tv screen? I know the image quality would suffer, but would it be that much worse than DS games getting the VC treatment?
no Chrono Trigger?
cmon..
We want RETRO GAME MASTER! or GAME CENTER CX if you will!
@SkywardCrowbar
"(and before you say anything, no, we couldn't find any decent quality footage of New Super Mario Bros. so we used video of the Wii U version instead)."
WOW! They're bringing New Super Mario Bros U to the Wii U?!
...wait a minute...
@rjejr this would cost way too much time and resources
to that you can add the fact that most wii u owners already have a 3DS/3DS XL... people want nintendo to develop new games.
if they decided to port lots of 3ds games over to wii u.. they'd have many angry/disappointed customers
Here's what I don't understand. Some of the games shown have videos that go from one screen to the next, and there are some games where the game screen is played on both screens. Contra 4 and Sonic Rush are examples of this. How could those games or any of the Zelda games be put on the Wii U. I just don't get it.
I'd like to buy the games I never played on the DS.
999 & Ghost Trick for example. I've heard both are excellent. I would rather get them on the 3DS though. It's a bit weird this is only for WiiU.
Most people wanted TWEWY, but that was not on your editors' list.
@bizcuthammer - "I already have a system that plays DS games: my 3DS, and still have most of the 3DS games i would want to play."
@Romeo - "to that you can add the fact that most wii u owners already have a 3DS/3DS XL"
If you already have a 3DS can't you play DS game cartridges - that you already own - on them? Why pay for them on the Wii U?
I guess I'll never get it. I would like to see some N64 and Gamecube games though. Even the later Wii secretly removed Gamecube b/c, and N64 are long gone.
Always the same! DS offers much more. A little selection:
Bokura no Telebi Game Kentei (similar to NEX Remix)
Taisen!! Ka to Chan no Kororonpe! (similar to Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon)
Might & Magic Clash of Heroes
Maestro! Jump in Music
Geometry Wars Galaxies
Pic Pic
Henry Hatsworth in the puzzling Adventure
…
I want Dragon Quest IV on the Wii U.
@rjejr
there's a big difference though. when nintendo makes said ds games available on the Wii U.. they'll hopefully have a low price and will be available digitally. example: if i go on steam and see a game i like.. i'll just buy it, easy.
ds retail games? most stores don't even have them anymore + they've become somewhat "rare" on amazon etc.
it's nice to dream
but I think Nintendo stopped listening to fan wishlists long ago.
(cue 'still waiting for a StarFox and F-Zero sequel' tick)
@rjejr Original DS games really don't look good on 3DS. The image is either fuzzy/hazy (at the 3DS screen res) or very small with humongous black borders (at the DS screen res on the 3DS screens).
i am still confused why Chrono Trigger isn't on that list...
@sleepinglion
Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero, please!
at least we'll get FAST Racing NEO, hopefully it'll be good.. i miss these futuristic racing games
@Nintendojuenger Henry Hatsworth in the puzzling Adventure was not half bad but top 10? Clash of Heroes was great but available on multiple platforms, game is more beautifull on others ...
@c1pher_c0mplet well he does seem clueless, but I lack inside into the decision making process over at ninty, so I can't really make a judgement call on this. Still there are some quesions that should be answered soon. Nintendo needs to get its act together, and among others, two key components are there online infrastructure inclung pricing and cross-hardware strategy as well as more sucessfull capitalization on their exisiting library. Shockingly these issues have been present at least sind the middle of the last generation and even more shockingly they already have been addressd - at least in part - but other companies. They really don't have to reinvent the wheel.
@bonham2 assuming you're seriously wondering I will give you a serious answer:
The Wii U is inspired by everything Nintendo has done before, INCLUDING it's handhelds. The Wii U is nothing more than a giant, detached Nintendo DS in HD. The GamePad is the bottom (touch)screen with the controls, and the TV is the top screen, simple as that.
Dragon quest would be awesome. I really wanna see spirit tracks. Anybody like the idea of the world ends with you?
@Shiryu I want that as well don't know I want to pay its current price though for the cart. (Don't see why they don't have it on the eshop. Then they can use any profits to do future instalments).
(No particular order)
1. Metroid Prime Hunters (modified to use the analog sticks)
2. Mario Kart DS
3. Super Mario 64 DS
4. Final Fantasy IV
5. Custom Robo Arena
6. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
7. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (and/or Platinum)
8. Chrono Trigger DS
9. Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
10. Star Fox Command
Assuming that Nintendo updates all these with online multiplayer functionalities. Maybe even connectivity with DSs and 3DS for local multiplayer.
@c1pher_c0mplet - Is a DS game going to look better on my 52" tv screen than one a 3DS screen? Is a DS game going to look better on my tv screen than a 3DS game on the Wii U? I give up.
There are two games I'd buy in a heartbeat although I still have them for my DS: Spectrobes and Lost in Blue (1, 2 or 3) - those were so innovative and entertaining.
3ds xl plays ds games great especially in original pixel mide, why do you assume theyd look better on the wii u?
Castlevania i played Castlevania harmony of despair on ps3 and it's a lot like the ds games. Is sprit tracks wind waker 2 or set before ?
Sounds great ds & gameboy advance games on wii u i guess it's because the lack of dev's and companies to make games for the wii u it will keep gamers tied over until the next wii u big title each time. ( The the waiting gap, donkey kong 21st feb, Mario kart 30th may, Bayoetta 2 ??august ? , X 30th nov ? dec 2014 ?.)
Nintendo is trolling hard with the GBA/DS games on Wii U VC. However, I can't wait to play some of those Castlevania games on there...
why oh why are the gba and ds games going to the wii u eshop? why not the 3ds?
@rjejr
They might as well start putting 3DS games on there at this point, I think this is an indicator of the elusive "unified accounts" and cross-buy on Nintendo devices. These are the first steps and 3DS games coming to Wii U would be the logical next step. I'll be the first to admit that Nintendo doesn't always do what seems logical, though.
@Peach64 watch them announce "N64 & GameCube games to come to 3DS VC but not Wii U". Just to troll us. Iwatroll.
@Shiryu "Game center cx!... KACHOU ON!!!!"
Dragon Quest V is miles better than IX. (And £40 is the cheapest used copy again right now).
Harvest moon and rune factory games
I think this is a great time to get some DS games not released in America to American gamers! I want to see both Hotel Dusk and its sequel(which never released here) on the Wii U, I know it would be a bit tricky to pull off since you held the DS like a book but with a little effort it can work! That and I want just about every great RPG released on the system including all of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest remakes and Radiant Historia.
Yes. I voted for Spirit Tracks.
In my humble opinion i think the DS has the best games catalogue of all time out of any console/handheld, obscene amounts of quality.
@SheldonRandoms You left out Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan & Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2…
Great article NL, truly great. The DS is comfortably my favourite games system of all time (both home and handheld consoles), and boasts an utterly fabulous software library of mainstream, niche and cult favourites. With that in mind, here's my top ten most wanted titles to come to the Wii U's recently announced DS Virtual Console...
1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
2. The World Ends With You
3. Chrono Trigger
4. GTA: Chinatown Wars
5. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
6. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
7. Solatorobo: Red the Hunter
8. Pokemon Black and White 2
9. Shantae: Risky's Revenge
10. Yoshi's Island
Sorry, but try as I might, I just couldn't squeeze the likes of Advance Wars (DoR), Castlevania (OoE), Elite Beat Agents, NSMB or 999 into my top ten. But hey, this paragraph is a satisfyingly sneaky way of fleshing my list out to a top fifteen, right!?
@Peach64 - Such an awesome list~ :3
@TheRealThanos
I don't think you get my issue. I get how the games will be used in place of the touch screen. In games like Contra 4 and Sonic Rush, your character will actually go from the bottom screen to the top screen in a vertical scrolling level. It's going to be really annoying constantly switching screens when they're switching every couple seconds. Also, some of the FMVs scroll between screens. Imagine trying to watch a video that way...I really don't think it's going to work that well.
1. Advance wars days of ruins
2. Megaman ZX
3. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Potrait of ruins, and Order of ecclesia.
4. Super robot taisen W, L
5. FF tactics
6. Harvest Moon Sunshine Island
Did any one play Time Hallow? I don't expect it to be put on the VC but it is titles like that I would like to see get a second chance. They were truly fun!
Metroid Prime Hunters? Really not on there? Nintendo could bring back Hunter's multiplayer easily with the Wii U and be a huge hit.
@XyVoX What is good about it (And the GBA for that matter) is there is stuff across all genres. In comparison the 3DS only has a very narrow subset.
dragon quest IX - I agree! the best ds game and I bought over 40 of them
@schizor Who, me?
@Diz93 AGREED. Love Prime Hunters. That'd be an instant buy from me.
The wind waker is one of my favorite zelda games so I would love to be able to play phantom hourglass and spirit tracks on wii u.
I want any. I want new stuff.
@rjejr
IMO, 3DS games should be playable on the Wii U, yes.
It would mean a bigger library for the Wii U and a way for both 3DS and Wii U users to desire the other console turning a lot more people into owners of both.
I really enjoy being around other people when I play games and being able to share it with them in person. I hope Nintendo keeps championing that and the 3DS does this in some ways but being able to easily display the 3DS screens to a TV through HDMI would be a boon. Easy public matches, you can share with family, etc. Pokemon alone could sell it with sort of an exhibition mode.
Next round of hardware gets this right is my bet:
portable device and console with the same basic SDK for developing and probably shader/GPU architecture as well. (That's the direction Nintendo has said it is going). Hopefully both can interact natively and both can transmit to eachother like GamePad does.
I hope anyway.
Whoever keeps saying "Pokemon Black and White 2" is living in Dream Land, main series Pokemon games on VC is never going to happen unless you can trade and battle between copies, and BW2 is pretty much the worst choice to start out with because its plot hinges on BW1.
Anyway, these are my choices in no particular order:
1. New Super Mario Bros.
2. Mario Kart DS
3. Anything from the Pokemon Ranger series
4. Super Mario 64 DS
5. Kirby Squeak Squad
i like the idea of ds games on wii u i would like to see
10: spirt tracks
9: pokemon platinum
8:super mario 64 ds
7: mario and luigi partners in time
6: bowsers inside story
5: pokemon black/white 2
4: pokemon trozei
3: dragon quest heros rocket slime
2: mario kart ds
1: pokemon ranger 1,2 and 3
I would play thru Animal Crossing: Wild World again if it was offered.
The World ends With Ends With You and the Mario and Luigi games.
Super Mario 64 DS
The World Ends With Ends With U
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy IV
Phantom Hourglass
Chinatown Wars
(If these were enhanced versions and not just straight ports it would be amazing)
How about NOPE.
I think the WiiU is already getting enough as-is.
Sorry, folks, but it wouldn't be so bad if the WiiU didn't ALSO get the GBA games before the 3DS (barring Ambassadors, of course).
Honestly, I'd like Super Mario 64 DS, and the three Etrian Odyssey games.
Just put all of them on the virtual console then one can play what ever he wanted !!
I already have pretty much every single DS game I really want, but I can think of a few that I'm missing that I would probably download granted the price is right (in no particular order):
1. Rune Factory 3
2. My World, my way
3. Rondo of Swords
4. Theresia
And yet, Nintendo can't put SNES and GBA games on the 3DS VC. Thanks, Nintendo. -_-
just the castlevania games, this way i can keep the trilogy sealed
I guess about the only one I'd want to see would be Mega Man Zero DS collection, but Nintendo (or Capcom I suppose?) would probably rather convert each separate Game Boy Advance title to make more money rather than releasing the whole DS collection.
Otherwise, I'm really not into DS VC.
101 games i would love but at a respectable price £6 ++ then you can stick it where the ds dont shine
I would rather want Heartgold and Soulsilver than Black and White 2.
But wii no WII games on wii u e shop. lets face it most dont come close to filling a disc a little hd filters & boom wii u game list is exploded
I really believe VC ds titles should go to both 3ds and wii u. I don't know why VC gba games aren't going toward the 3ds eshop because it isn't backwards compatible so it would be perfect to give to thr 3ds. I would kinda prefer playing buu's fury on my 3ds than waiting till I get home. That kinda blows. WTH Nintendo!
@aaronsullivan - 3DU in 2015. 4 years after the 3DS - the DSi came out 4 years after the original DS and it was a pretty significant upgrade, and 2 years after the Wii U - the Gamecube's Game Boy Player came out 2 years after the Gamecube. So it all adds up. Not sure if 3DU would be a 3DS w/ a new chip to stream to the Wii U, or a device that lets Wii U play 3DS games, but something should be out in early 2015 connecting the 2.
SONIC RUSH AND ADVENTURE PLEASE!!111! Or even better Nintendo just bribe SEGA to make a new Sonic Rush for 3DS or Wii U.
Not the games I would have chosen specifically, but I think this is a pretty good list to capture a wide audience of gamers. I definitely agree with Order of Ecclesia, Shadow Dragon, and Sentinels of the Starry Skies though. Would love to see those on the Wii U VC.
solatorobo, pkmn mystery dungeon sky, daigasso band brothers dx with the sound enhancement channel included, mario 64 ds with no dash button and joystick control, kingdom hearts 358/2 days, both of the ds mario and luigi games, and super princess peach
Any Castlevania! Also I would love to be able to swap the screens. Castlevania rarely needed the touch screen and I'd rather view it on my TV and not the Gamepad.
@rjejr
I guess that's possible. 3DU is a name that is very scary. lol. What is it? Maybe 3DSU... though I'm really thinking about the next pair of completely new devices because right now the 3DS is a VERY different beast to develop for compared to the Wii U.
@Romeo Chrono Trigger is a port of an existing game — it's not really a DS exclusive.
Ugh they can keep spirit tracks. The touch controls made the game unplayable. So glad link between worlds ditched the use the stylus to swing the sword bs.
Spirit Tracks was by far my least favorite game in the Zelda series. Parts of it were almost unplayable.
Lack of Elite Beat Agents / Ouendan is DEWSGUSTING
@rjejr the DS games will look terrible too on Wii U. I can't possibly see why people want to play ultra blocky versions of these games when their 3DS will play them just fine and look about as close to the original as possible.
I rather see n64 and GameCube games on Wii U VC as well. It makes much more sense than DS games on the VC. DS games should come out on the 3DS virtual console, that would make much more sense.... N64 games might look terrible, but GameCube games will look amazing on the gamepad's 480p screen.
I just don't understand Nintendo's logic here; it's like as a 3DS owner i'm a second class citizen. I can play NES games, gameboy, a few Sega games etc but that's about it. I don't get it. Why are SNES games not coming out on the 3DS? Why no GBA games? I kind of understand no DS games as you can just buy a hard copy but not being able to play Super Mario World or Super Metroid on the 3ds just seems misjudged. And the rate at which they are releasing games is pitiful too, I mean how much time does it take to emulate a NES game?
@rjejr Its more of a next gen system rather than a different model. @aaronsullivan is thinking that Nintendo's next system will be a handheld/console hybrid. Basically the concept of Fusion - the handheld part would be the main part and is fully portable, while the "console" would act as a terminal, allowing you to play your games on the TV. Both the handheld part and the console terminal must have their own processor, as streaming like the Vita does with Remote Play over wifi causes latency and lag. There would be a shared NNID and OS, making everything unified.
For this to work, it has to be advertised correctly. The handheld part MUST be advertised and implemented as the main part, with the console terminal as the secondary part/accessory. Otherwise you end up with Sony's situation with the Vita and PS4. No advertising that has fake families with fake smiles. No advertising towards little kids. The advertising needs to show a gamer playing a game on their handheld part, then coming home, turning on the terminal, and playing on the TV. Then show the gamer deciding to switch games and accessing their massive library right there on the terminal, putting a selection of games on the handheld and leaving his house. Then show him accessing the full library from the handheld while away, noting that the feature must be done over wifi or even 4G data when away from the terminal.
This would be an AMAZING system that will turn heads from everyone in the industry. One major problem with the concept though: the hardware would have to be shared and would need to be VERY powerful. Since both parts are bundled together, the hybrid system would cost a TON of money.
Advance wars dual strike was way better then days of ruin!!! Better characters, gameply and background music!!!
If spirit tracks is on the list then u need to put phantom hourglass since it could be a good for wii u for those who played wind waker and want to play the sequel. I rather see 64 or game cube game instead of ds!!! Star fox assult, donkey kong 64, majoras mask, mario sunshine, f-zero gx, golden eye, classic mario party 1, star fox adventure, luigis mansion, tales of symphonia and SSBM.
@aaronsullivan @IceClimbers - My main problem i sI just spent $350 on a Wii U abut 8 months ago so I dont want to wait anther 4 years for a new system. The 3DS is 3 years old so likely to get updated sooner. Hard to come out w/ a new system to replace both when they are off by 2 years in their life cycles.
I would rather have TWEWY than any other game on that list. And, personally, Shadow Dragon is the worst Fire emblem game I have played. The characters are boring, the plot is slow, and the battle animations are nearly painful. Sacred Stones is al least twice as good.
@IceClimbers
@rjejr and I are just dreaming slightly different dreams and you are too.
I was trying to be a bit more general because there are options.
Imagine if the 3DS had a higher-res screen and already had all the features of the GamePad (needs nfc, second analog, transmitter for Wii U video streaming) and you could buy the Wii U w/out a GamePad and use the 3DS you already had as an optional way to save money.
This didn't happen this generation, but is one possibility in the next incarnation of Nintendo hardware.
One big hybrid has many downsides, but is an interesting idea.
I'm thinking you still keep each device with it's strengths (console: power, mobile: mobility) but let them really complement each other. For instance, you could stream everything from the portable to the console to see things on a full size TV (for sharing stuff but also tournament mode: imagine an overview with commentary while 4 people play a mario kart on their handhelds)
Nintendo is already consolidating their mobile and console hardware teams and buildings to focus on a common architecture and SDK but apparently hasn't decided on exactly how it's going to play out — one awesome portable that doubles as a console, remain separate, more like a tablet with controls?
@rjejr On the timing: that's why I like your idea of a 3DSU. Only I JUST bought a 3DS so I'm in the opposite boat. The 2 year cycle thing is an issue, but how about a shorter life span for Wii U and a longer life span for the very successful 3DS.
Metroid Prime Hunters!!
I can't stand the DS Zelda games and NSMBDS is simply not that good compared to the other NSMB games.
Contra 4, Henry Hatsworth, Sonic Rush, Space Invaders Extreme 2, Elite Beat Agents, Aliens: Infestation, Retro Game Challenge, Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, and 999 would have been a better top ten to me.
Chrono Trigger.
Games we can't find easily at retail... not these games in other words.
I'd rather not have Virtual Console for games that came from the previous generation since I can still get them physically and play them on one of their current gen consoles.
Here's my top ten DS games I want to play on Wii U (I try not to include ports and remakes):
@Ralek85 I'd say that's due to the fact that all of the 3DS family right now is backwards compatible with the DS. You can just buy the cartridges for pretty cheap in comparison to the VC prices they would put up.
@SheldonRandoms I have the same problem!!
Elite Beat Agents ftw!!
You know what, I'll buy New Super Mario Bros. I played that game as a child, and thus it would be nice to revisit.
Nintendo really needs the handheld fanbase to buy its consoles as well now. Putting pokemon on Wii U is brilliant to achieve this.
deff shadow dragon.
deff shadow dragon.
WarioWare D.I.Y. Best DS game ever!
I'm surprised at my own lack of interest in Wii U DS games, but the DS just feels too recent. Pokemon Black 2 came out less than 2 years ago, for example. Also, Nintendo Life hated the way the Ace Attorney games were just ported straight to the Wii for $10 each, partially because of how bad they looked, but I doubt Nintendo will change the games to make them look better, and I doubt they'll sell them as cheaply as $10. I wish Nintendo would release DS and GBA games on the 3DS eshop instead of, or in addition to, the Wii U eshop, and work on releasing N64 and Gamecube games on the Wii U.
Meteos-Hell yeah!!!!
New super mario bros.-Definitely, a must have for the ds
Mario kart ds-Before kart 7 this was the definitive mario kart edition, yes please.
Grand theft auto and dragon quest-Not a fan of those series, so meh
Pokemon black and white 2-Would be wonderful but fanboys need to realise already that nintendo isn't interested to release any pokémon game in virtual console format, period.
Castlevania Order of ecclesia-Awesome game, I expect to see it there.
Advance wars days of ruin-Pretty good but dual strike was even better, would be perfect to see both released on the virtual console.
Fire emblem shadow dagon-The only true piece of poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople on this list, generic and boring as all hell. Gba Fire Emblems were far better on every aspect, colourful graphics, pretty good soundtracks and fire emblems 6 and 7 gave you ranks according how well you fared in the game, survival was vital, because if certain characters died, you weren't allowed to go into the gaiden chapters, thus it would affect your rank and ending. This piece of garbage on the other hand, made you kill a lot of characters to enter those gaiden chapters, the graphics were bland and uninspired and the music was meh to say the least. Please nintendo, ignore this game completely, even if it starred marth it was horrible.
TLOZ: Spirit Tracks-Same as days of ruin, a pretty good game on its own but overshadowed by phantom hourglass, but even then, I really hope to see it on the virtual console, an underrated gem, hope to see both ds zeldas on the virtual console.
Other great games I expect to see: Contra 4, Golden sun dark dawn, all 4 kirby games, mario and luigi 2 and 3 (awesome games, just loving awesome), warioware games.
Please watch the profanity — TBD
Even though I don't see myself buying a DS game on Wii U (let alone one I already own), I do have a list of DS games that have been on my wanted radar to play on 3DS.
DK Jungle Climber
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Pokemon Conquest
Sonic Chronicles
Star Fox Command
Kirby Squeak Squad
Super Princess Peach
Trauma Center 2
Yoshi's Island DS
Batman: Brave and Bold
I would like to see Chrono trigger get added to the VC and Metroid Prime Hunters!
This is IMO, a dumb decision.
How will fully polygonal games look anywhere near presentable on an average TV screen? What about DS games that use both screens at the same time?
Adding GBA VC to the Wii U instead of 3DS is a terrible decision too. Just give 3DS ambassadors the shaft; as well as ones who didn't buy one at launch, but were hoping for eventual release of GBA games.
What's going on Nintendo? I don't get these announcements.
lol, the 10 games that Nintendolife would like to see. How did they came up with these titltes? Asked the fans?
@Austroid It's weird indeed, since the ambassadors got 10 gba games, I also figured out that nintendo would eventually launch the catalogue on the 3ds instead of the wii u, same goes for the ds games. Nintendo's decision on this is very weird indeed, the next announcement will be gamecube games for the 3ds virtual console. The gba games announcement is not THAT BAD, at least nintendo FINALLY delivered in that department.
Sonic Colors DS?
here are my top 10 requested DS games for the VC:
1. Infinite space
2. tloz: phantom hourglass
3. the world ends with you
4. elite beat agents
5. 999
6. advance wars: days of ruin & dual strike
7. fire emblem: shadow dragon
8. castlevania DS trilogy
9. kingdom hearts 358 / 2 days
10. flower, sun, and rain
honorable mentions go to games published by SEGA, 1st party Nintendo games & games made by square enix. Ghost trick would be cool so that more people would have the chance to play that game, really underrated title indeed.
@Ernest_The_Crab I guess that must be it. Still disappointing, first of all not all games where released in all regions but they are region free. This would be a great chance to bring some games esp. to Europe that before were only even known to the more "hardcore" crowd and secondly and to me far more importantly is the fact, that I went all digital with this generation of Handhelds, no way im going to carry around a bunch of old DS cards. I'm willing to pay for that convenience, I cannot possible be alone in that. That was more than 50% of the appeal of certain device allowing you to "store" several DS games on a single "cards" if you catch my drift.
Just give me my looooooooooooong overdue NES, SNES and Mega Drive games...
Wait you guys missed some good ones:
1) Chrono Trigger
2) Suikoden Teirkreis
3) Final Fantasy III DS
4) Final Fantasy IV DS
5) Radiant Historia
6) The World Ends with You
7) Contra 4
8) SMT Strange Journey
9) Super Mario 64 DS (way better than NSMB)
10) Megaman Zero Collection
I still don't understand why they are putting DS games on the WiiU VC. They should be putting N64 and Gamecube games on the VC. The idiots are going backwards instead of forwards IMO. FFS they said on launch that we would get 64 and cube games on the VC. I mean e.g. Mario 64 is way better than Mario 64 DS and imagine playing Extreme G on the WiiU at full pelt... Just saying...
Nintendo just needs to get it's f'n *ss in gear and get a single unified Virtual Console with all these games on it that you can play on BOTH the 3DS/2DS and Wii U with the purchase of one digital copy of the game.
Right now there should be one glorious eShop where you can play virtually every past generation Nintendo game from ANY of it's consoles ever on whichever console platform you currently own. That was what I imagined we were going to get when Nintendo first announced the Virtual Console service for the "Revolution" back at E3 2005 and STILL IT HASN'T F'N HAPPENED!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt8CBYAnMYc
NINTENDO CAME UP WITH THIS WHOLE CONCEPT FIRST AND YET NINE MOTHERF*****G YEARS LATER AND STILL NINTENDO DOESN'T HAVE THIS SH*T SORTED YET!!!!
It could have been something TRULY MAGICAL, "Revolutionary" even, but right now on Wii U it's genuinely not that much better than what the competition has, shocking considering the world leading back catalog of truly classic and truly brilliant games Nintendo has, and in some ways it's actually worse than the competition.
One single user account across all platforms, one unified eShop and VC service, multi-platform play across all Nintendo's current consoles with a single copy of the game, ALL of Nintendo's back catalog of great games from ALL of it's past platforms (Yes, that even includes Virtual Boy too).
IT'S NOT THAT F'N COMPLICATED, NINTENDO!
Until then, while I think it's good these DS games are coming to the Wii U, I just find Nintendo's whole approach clumsy, convoluted, confusing, needlessly segregated, under-developed, under-realized and totally and utterly frustrating.
I've stopped buying Nintendo consoles and it's because of stuff just like this where all I ever feel from Nintendo these days is this sense of total and utter disappointment and frustration that it can't just get even the most obvious stuff right and deliver on what people actually truly want rather than a totally gimped half-*ssed version of it that ONLY the most loyal and hardcore FANS are deluded enough to believe is good enough.
Well it's NOT good enough and until it is YOU DON'T GET ONE MORE CENT OF MY F'N MONEY!!!
@OldWeeDog - I too would much rather see Nintendo prioritising N64 and GC Virtual Console entries waaaay ahead of even starting to look at bringing DS content to our GamePad screens. That being said however, I'm still looking forward to the prospect of replaying some of the very finest games to ever grace a handheld system — Chinatown Wars, Phantom Hourglass and The World Ends With You, etc.
Sure, I too harbour some very small concerns as to graphical polish and how Nintendo will work around the issue of the DS' dual screen set-up, but in all honesty, as long as the games play well, I'll be more than happy.
Now, about those GameCube games...
I don't get it. DS games on the Wii u? Are these games going to be in full HD and re-mastered for the big screen like Wind Waker and come with a heavy price tag, or are they just something to play on the Gamepad?
Either way that's not why I bought a Wii u.
@zool - I guess they'll be playable on both the GamePad and your TV, much the same as with current SNES, NES Virtual Console titles. They certainly won't be revisited and remastered in the same as the gorgeous Wind Waker HD.
Either way, it's not why I bought a Wii U either, but as far as I'm concerned, the prospect of bringing DS games to Wii U via the Virtual Console makes for a very tasty bonus treat
@KIRK i completely agree fella ive always owned all of Nintendo consoles/handhelds close to launch the WiiU being the first time ive not bothered (along with many if not most of my colleagues/friends) i respect their ability to create good games but as for the rest of their business model i DONT LIKE IT AT ALL and i dont like pricing either (in the UK at least) for their digital titles, hence why i almost entirely dont buy downloaded games from them anymore unless on sale. They do seem to be professional Heel Draggers nowadays.
@SheldonRandoms they gave away those games at work last week, we never sold any, so we ended up giving the copies away to everyone buying any nintendo-related stuff.
Needless to say i snagged a copy for myself
999, Ghost Trick and Phoenix Wright 1-3!!! These games would work great considering the ary styles!
I would definately consider Days of Ruin because I liked the gameplay of Dual Strike but found the story jarring. Seriously sending hundreds to die in order to see who would better lead allied forces? That's just creepy.
I am very excited about this!!!! I missed many DS I always wanted to play. I loved Phantom Hourglass, and I cannot wait to play the Spirit Tracks on bigger screen(s)!! And speaking about biggers screens, the Meteos might benefit from larger touch screen even more...and become life threateningly addictive, will power eating black hole of happiness.
And oh boy, The Castlevania and Advance Wars.
I am also in need for Brain Training and Tetris. And a bunch of RPG's. Perhaps ZooKeeper. Definitively Wario Ware!! Well, doggeyoopsiepoopiepoodle; its Cornucopia of games. I'm going to lose a lot of money on these.
Profanity is not necessary here -Lz
@Varoennauraa ...but how long will it take for Nintendo to drip-feed them onto the eShop?!! Judging by the Wii U's existing Virtual Console line-up, I'd probably have to go wiiiiith...years, bloody years!
@AcesHigh73
Yes. Nintendo's VC pace is unsettling. And not only the time it takes them to release stuff, but how many poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople release weeks will be in between good releases.
Please watch the profanity — TBD
@XyVoX
Yup, I'm in exactly the same boat. Owned all their previous consoles but not bought a Wii U or 3DS*.
I agree that their digital VC games are overpriced too.
Nintendo still makes great games, some greater than others, but in this day and age that alone is not enough to make me buy their console as far as I'm concerned and certainly not when compared to what the competition is offering with their value propositions.
Nintendo just seems behind the curve at almost everything other than making solid titles these days and even their best games aren't clear-cut head and shoulders above the other great games on the competing consoles like they once used to be.
Outside of the most loyal FANS wanting to keep playing their beloved franchise games I just don't think Nintendo consoles have that much of a genuinely compelling USP these days (one gimmick at the cost/sacrifice of almost everything else doesn't really count imo).
*Although I've been slowly drifting, more like forced, towards this situation since the GC basically.
To me the power is just another gimmick too, and expensive at that too.
Wii U's graphics are not half bad, and the Nintendo's "gimmicks" are at least meant to improve interactivity(vs increasing amount of automation in games), which is the meaning of games after all. Graphics wasn't the most popular gimmick last gen. They are now, but despite it's popularity issues, Wii U is not a bad product either. It certainly lacks instantly understandable marketing catch phrase(unless you consider the countless negative ones coming from its competitors), but it still has good graphics, lots of good games, its affordable and it has tons of interesting control methods and rather unique game play possibilities. PS4 is more expensive, and has nothing but its graphics and current popularity...which is not necessarily an eternal feature. PS4 has many, many good looking games coming, that I would have rather played with Wii U. I have became bored of PS4 games years ago.
@Nictendo64 great pic dude, I love the aquabats!!!
I could be missing something here but in the latest Nintendo Direct Mr Iwata said Gameboy Advance games were being added to Virtual Console not the DS?
@rjejr sorry to jump in late and blow the debate about ds-Wii u visuals.....I thought they had stated they were game pad only...no tv needed !!! This would make more sense in a way!?!
@ULTRA-64 - Gamepad only? For both screens? Well that would change everything. Makes sense though I guess. I don't know the resolutions for any of the screens but I bet it could be a close pixel to pixel representation. Not for me at all then.
@rjejr

Check the picture....
I want Wii games to be available for digital download. I had an awesome Wii library that I got rid of to reduce the clutter in my place. I still want the games, I just want them all at my fingertips.
Good list of games. Completely forgot about GTA: Chinatown Wars (played that for hours on end).
I would just like to see any handheld Pokemon games on a home console. That would be great. Professor Layton, Ace Attorney, and Star Fox Command would also be good.
@ChessboardMan No I didn't, because that would be in my VC import list right there
@DanMan82 It's not a problem, it's a way of life XD
@iKrimZen And now your life has been taken over by the EBA (Maybe).
This is really bizarre ... why would anyone want ANY of those portable games on a big screen? They already look silly-bad on the 3DS XL, and that's still pretty tiny.
If these games were to be remade completely, maybe I'd be interested, but as they are? I'd prefer to keep them portable. Add SNES and N64 games to the 3DS while you're at it.
Advance Wars, Dragon Quest, and Zelda are all great picks.
One of the most varied libraries?! Yeah, right! [/sarcasm] Something like at least 3/4 of its retail library consists of RPGs, puzzle games, casual titles, inferior console ports, and games that overuse the touch screen (Star Fox Command, Kirby Mass Attack, etc.). The GBA has a much more varied library.
@jjmesa16 They're called the Super Gameboy and the GBA Player. Play Pokémon on the big screen all you want.
@bonham2 that is a good point. But cut scenes or animations (thinking of the Metroid Prime one as far as running on two screens simultaneously is concerned) could probably be recoded to run only on the GamePad or on the TV. Don't know about the gameplay sections, though. Then again, small wonder: I'm no programmer. The animation bit just seems logical to me. And sorry for the late response; got wrapped up on other forums and in other articles.
I'd love to play Dragon Quest IX on a system with working wifi. I feel like I'm missing out on half the game as it is.
My most wanted Nintendo DS titles to be re-released on the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console are:
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
@Ralek85 Exactly!!!! 0_0
