@turnmebackwards they already sunk money into the Wii U version, why wouldn't they try to recoup that money? It won't sell gangbusters on Wii U, but it will sell enough to bring a few million dollars in (300k sales). They would be nuts to leave that money on the table.
@Fazermint these scientist didn't waste money, they produced the results that the people supplying the money wanted.
Government grants and studies paid for by companies are completely bogus. They only reflect what the buyer wants it to say. Otherwise that source of money will be cut off.... Take climate science, the studies we see is only what governments want us to believe, because governments use these studies as their justification of their policicies. Dr Richard Lindzen created the study of climatology back in the 70's at MIT, and his latest book details how the government grant scam works.
@johndevine I do yoga (Vinyasa yoga) and P90x in front of the TV. Are you saying I'm not burning calories? I beg to differ. Exercising in front of the TV is a very legitimate form of exercise, just because you slack off in front of the tv doesn't mean the rest of us cheat our exercise.
We'll no shnizzle Sherlock. It's supposed to be supplemental to an existing exercise plan..... Wii Fit U is great for in between gym sessions as it's easy on the body, you can remain active even on a rest day.
@Onett because Sega (team sonic) isn't making this game there is a reasonable chance it might be good. Team Sonic hasn't made a hit in Avery long time.
Ex Naughty Dog will be working on this game. I don't know if that's a good thing for a sonic game or not. So I imagine it will be a 12 hour cinematic adventure, story heavy with lackluster gameplay loaded to the brim with QTE press A for awesome scenes (relax it's just a joke)
"but we can't help but wonder whether Sega — behind closed doors and in hushed tones"
Uhm I don't think so. Remember Nintendo probably had some deal with Sega where they agreed to pay for development, packaging/shipping/advertising, or something. So it's free money on the table just collecting the sales. Of course we don't know the deal, but SEGA wouldn't have agreed to an exclusive deal without getting something in return.
Sega was well aware of the Wii U sales before they agreed to these deals.
@Keiizeo cry engine 3 will run on Wii U but Cryengine 3 needs to be ported to Wii U first. That was the only roadblock. The money/payoff wasn't there to do it.
But now it has to be ported to Wii U for this game to work.....hopefully this encourages other Cryengine 3 games to be ported over.
@6ch6ris6 uhh so more games are disappointing ?? Crazy.
See this being a port, almost all of the dev work is done, all they have to do is port it and optimize it. I say good for them to get more games out there. Creating a totally new title takes time, so why not port a game on the side to get more releases out there while waiting for their main game, Fast Neo Racinng?
@Knuckles you can give Team Sonic 10 years to make a game and it will still turn out mediocre. Problem isn't the development time. The problem is lack of creativity and lack of a great director.... For instance, lost World had a billion things jam packed into it, so much so it was just incoherent. A great director will throw things out, the director for Lost World it seems green lighted every last idea.
Koichi tossed ideas out of Super Mario Galaxy. In fact he tossed so many ideas out they made a sequel with that content
@SkywardCrowbar I'd recommend never preording any game you never played, well besides an EAD Tokyo game. I don't care how big the reputation is I can never bring myself to preorder any game, let alone one with a review embargo. Doubling so when it comes to Wii U games, the install base is so low you will always be able to find a copy somewhere.
Too many times I see people get burned by preordering, for the life of me I can't see any net gain from preordering.
@Gioku I agree. As beautiful as 3D World was, I can't wait to see Nintendo start experimenting with these OpenGL 4.3 shading we see in this game, but only if the frame rate stays at 60fps. Eye candy is not worth losing gameplay precision over
Don't know how it will turn out, but it couldn't possibly get any worse than Lost World... It's almost like Sega didn't care enough about their flagship franchise to really dump some serious coin in making a great game. So maybe a new developer can do something special with the IP.
If all else fails, Sega should contract members of EAD Tokyo so they can teach them how to make a 3D Platformer.
@Nico07 I really wish people wouldn't use NeoGAF scare tactics regarding Nintendo and downloading. If your console, breaks the games don't go poof.. Nintendo has a process for restoring your games to a new device.
You know what's worse than that? A console without backwards compatibility so your purchased games really are stuck on that machine. I can play games I bought on wii ware on my Wii U...... Your comment might have had a point if Sony and MS had backwards compatibility.
I appreciate the article Tom, but I will politely disagree, I think MH3U's modest sales on Wii U had more to do with the severe gaming drought on Wii U. I hope I can be proven wrong, but I don't think Frontier will perform as good, which is a shame as I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
@SockoMario if Sega wants a killer 3D Sega game, they will need to contract the masters at 3D platformers.... I'm sure Nintendo would allow EAD Tokyo to assist...... For a small fee, and/or permanent exclusive rights.
@XCWarrior the NL staff is the only one talking about a subscription. Frontier has a subscription in. Japan, just like MH3U, but as we can see that part didn't make it to the west. Seems like jumping the gun a little. I keep reading the quote from Capcom, I don't see where it says the subscription is coming along from Japan
@Samurai_Goroh frontier coming to Wii u probably means MH4 is going to 3DS only.... Which is fine, Frontier seems more like a console experience where the whole joining rooms nonsense doesn't feel right on a console.
GOOD. MH should have always been a MMO. As much as I enjoyed MH3U, the whole idea of connecting to a lobby then finding a "room" was just immersion breaking, and tedious.
I want to feel like I'm entering a world and get lost in it for hours on end, and every time your party broke up, you had to go back to the lobby and break the immersion..... So I'm eagerly awaiting frontier. Much more so than MH4
@JohnRedcorn Nintendo did solve a problem I wanted solved. When I was 5 years old, playing on the NES and my father would come from work wanting to watch the news and I didn't want to stop my game. I then and there wished Nintendo would make a Nintendo that would allow me to keep playing even when someone wants to use the tv .... Voila Wii U happened !!
You don't speak for me or anyone else who does like this console. The gamepad is far more Nextgen then just slapping an upgraded GPU into a box and calling it a day like Sony/MS do. That's boring. If you like specs, buy a PC. Why bother with low end consoles if that's all you care about is "zomg graffix"
@XCWarrior thanks, people need to get over it. The gamepad is the only thing that differentiates Wii U from xBone and PS4.. If all a gamer cares about is specs they can buy a PC. If a gamer only cares about specs but doesn't know that a 1 teraflop device is lowend tech, than a PS4 and xBone is for them.
The gamepad is great, I love taking the HUD off my screen when playing MH. Pikmin 3's gamepad support was fantastic, setting way points and being able to control multiple units at once. It's really opened up the strategy potential of a Pikmin. It was intuitive. Doing that on a regular controller would have been pretty boring and lame.
Off tv play is the most underrated aspect about the gamepad.
@Peach64 the reason why there is a lot of non-NFL fans watching the Super Bowl just for the ads because companies are dumping 3 or 4 million dollars on a 30 second spot, so when they have this massive 100 million person audience they try to out do other companies buying advertising. The funniest commercials are usually talked about by everyone the next day.. So companies are vying to have their commercial/product talked about post game.
And yes the commercials are usually ridiculously funny.
@JQuest zero clout. Anyone can advertise... The only time an ad was rejected to my knowledge was that VW ad where a terrorist blows himself up inside the car.... That ad was going to air 4 months after 9/11 and the NFL pulled it.
But if Nintendo plopped down the cash, Fox would air it.
Everyone went nuts in the west over Animal Crossing. I rented it to see what the hype was about and after spending a dozen of hours with it I just couldn't get into it. I guess not every game is for everyone.... I'll probably rent this as a trial as well before deciding on purchasing.
@FullbringIchigo yes, that's what I believe.... In that direct it only said Sega and Nintendo would partnership for three games. I don't recall Iwata saying three Wii U games, but only 3 games exclusive to Nintendo.
@Agent721 focusing on non games is a good thing. These "gamers" you speak of already told Nintendo their opinion with their collective wallets, and Nintendo got the message loud and clear that they need to search else where to grow their business..... Blame yourselves. It's the same concept behind by Starfox and F-Zero why they haven't been seen in over a decade, because the fans of these series spoke with their wallets, telling Nintendo they don't want these games anymore.

@ferthepoet how do you figure? Is there a one year time limit on selling a console? They have several years to figure how to sell the system, why is it already too late? The PS3 had god awful sales for two years, why doesn't Nintendo get the same level of benefit of doubt?

@bizcuthammer sounds like they will be discussing only their spring games, which is fine by me, I'm mostly interested in the near term
Re: Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 13th February
@FishieFish yes yes yes, this. With how great SMT IV and Awakening turned out I REALLY want this game.
Re: Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 13th February
@Lord awesome. I hope NLG is working on a Wii U game this time.
Re: Feature: Monster Hunting with Kerry: Kechawacha – That's A Name, Not A Sneeze

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th February (Europe)
"Until 20th February, if you own Dr. Luigi you can download Dr. Mario on the same Wii U (the Virtual Console entry released this week) for free."
Chances of this coming to NA is slim and none. I picked up Dr Luigi, so getting a free NES game would be cool.

I'll pass. I have a tablet for shallow games, I don't need to play them on my Wii U.
What would be nice is a way to stream music from spot iffy or pandora.
