I love monster hunter, but I can't see myself buying another for the 3DS. I double dipped for Wii U and 3DS last time. I played it on my 3DS for 4 hours at the most, and over 300 hours on my Wii U.
The likely hood of Capcom porting it to Wii U for a western release is slim.... But I do think they will announce they will localize MH Frontier for EU and NA soon... Which is fine by me, I thought the idea of choosing a lobby and joining a room through Neko was immersion breaking. I hear Frontier is a very seamless online world, kind of like a MMO, that sounds A LOT better than jumping on the back of monsters, so not a bad trade off
I hope Hover and Tom Sparks fail to reach their absurd stretch goals. These are games made in Unity, there is no reason a port should cost so much money. Porting between Unity is easy peasey as explained by multiple developers, nothing like how it was before middleware was created .. and tiny 2 man dev teams are doing some killer stuff with the gamepad with a whole lot less money.
Taking advantage of the situation of Wii U hoping to extract extra money because "Wii U owners are so desperate they will pay off our ransom just to get a game".
Just shady business practices. They are like EA with training wheels on
Child Of Light is a no brainier, and the new gamepad features for Stick It To The Man sound really cool (nice to see developers getting creative with the gamepad). This is turning out to be a decent week.
@DiscoGentleman their game trading isn't there to enrich the gamers it's to make money for the company.... Nobody is forcing you to trade with them. That's the wonderful thing about capitalism, you can CHOOSE to participate in the transaction, or you can choose not to.
A better question is why are most gamers Marxist?? They believe companies should only exist to kiss their asses and give them free shizzle but when a company wants to make money they are accused of being evil.
If gamers didn't like gamestops practices they would go out of business, but they are still here, which means they are doing something right. I personally don't care for them and buy my games online, but I would never complain about a company that wants to make a profit, I mean that's the whole reason for a companies existence.
It's like gamers graduated from the Barack Obama school of Marxism where they are brainwashed to hate profit for some reason, much like the anti-capitalist himself.
Wii U version doesn't have online multiplayer, no sale.
I'm sorry but I never get a chance to play local multiplayer, so this title would be completely worthless to me. Singleplayer racing games aren't very fun. Put it online and even the most dull of racers is instantly exciting with active competition added to the mix.
@gatorboi352 it is on topic. What is the difference between expecting Nintendo to pay to port indie games vs. retail games? The concept is the same. They are both third party developers, there is no difference between them.... You want Nintendo to pay to port others games to their systems so they don't have to accept any risk. Why stop at indies, might as well do the same for major third party developers too.
The real idea here is I poked holes in your argument like swiss cheese so you are trying to invalidate the counter-argument by making a ridiculous claim that there is a big difference in concept between indie and major devs. There isn't. They are both third parties that make their own games outside of Nintendo. Nintendo provides a platform for both to sell their product. Your argument is Nintendo should pay for the development, and its an absurd suggestion.
@gatorboi352 Yes you are right. Nintendo should pay to port EA's games, Ubisoft's games, Activisions games, Capcom's games, Square's games over to their platform. Heck they should offer porting services for Rockstar... that way other companies don't have to have any risk to make profit and it all can come at Nintendos expensive. Because thats essentially what you are saying, that because Wii U sales are low, Nintendo should spend money developing other peoples games. No offense, but that is the stupidest piece of advice or criticism I have ever seen leveled at Nintendo, and there has been a lot of those in the running lately.
You must be a marxist because you have demonstrated an utter lack of understanding of how profit is made. Profit isn't made by handing out money to others, and that is essentially what you are saying Nintendo should do because Wii U sales are lagging? please.
If private indie developers don't want to spend their own resources in bringing their game over to the platform, then its no big deal, it isn't Nintendo's problem.
Indie devs need to sink or swim on their own, they don't need Nintendo changing their diaper and putting powder on their backsides. If they don't sell enough of their product to cover their development costs, then it maybe its a problem with their game, and not Nintendo. Nintendo merely provides a platform for others to sell their product on for a tiny fee. If thats not good enough for these marxist, then move along.
@Darknyht Sales are so bad to indies on Wii U that these devs keep bringing their next game to the platform as well.... that was sarcasm if you couldn't tell.
"Sheffield highlights that while Nintendo's policies are actually supportive, its messaging and studio-to-studio activity struggles to match that of Sony and Microsoft."
So this joker wants Nintendo to spend money porting peoples games for them... Indie devs should do their own porting/development. wth. ITs like complaining because Nintendo wont market EA or Ubisoft games for them... yes there was actually people complaining Nintendo wasn't spending money marketing titles by large third party publishers.
So because Dan is not making 140 character posts means Nintendo has silenced him? Or it could mean he is a busy man bringing in more indie games to the console. Sounds like this dude is just bitter about something.
All of the indie devs on Wii U have been praising Nintendo's treatment of indies, some offer constructive and useful criticisms, but this guy is angry he has to spend his own money porting his own game and feels snubbed because Nintendo hasn't offered to port it for him.... Geez allowing developer expression and freedom is a bad thing now. Seems like this guy is begging Nintendo to be his publisher and when he gets the cold shoulder he goes off on a rant writes a hit piece. too funny
Now we know why FEZ and Minecraft isn't coming to Wii U.. because Nintendo rejected these guys' proposal to let Nintendo spend money porting their game to Wii U.
If anything its Sony and Microsoft setting a bad example in the industry here... These devs are going to end up like the welfare class in America where they forget how to do things for themselves and always wait for someone (government/Sony) to help them..... With things like Kickstarter around, there is absolutely no reason for any platform holder to pay indies to bring their game over. Kickstarter allow devs to put out an idea, and if enough people want that idea to succeed it will get funded..... sounds more like some indie devs are scared to let their idea sink or swim on their own and want someone else to pay to bring it over.
@sinalefa couldn't agree more. The description of this game is just off the charts cool. I hope they achieve what they set out to do, and I can't wait to get some strategy like minded friends together and play
@DestinyMan So your position is, its worth effecting EVERYONE on Miiverse from having healthy group topics with each other, as long as it makes Sakurai's posts better? YGBFKM
I don't see how Nintendo could not pay for a western release.... The Wii U game library is pretty dire, especially from 3rd party's. They need every game they can get on Wii U in the west.
Something like Dragon Quest X I can understand not making a western release based strictly on cost of localizing a game with that much text/dialog would be pretty expensive.... But Fatal Frame couldn't be that bad and would help full out the library and make a great companion to Zombi U. The horror genre is terribly under utilized on all systems today.
How can a port costs more than two times the entire game? All of the time consuming and most expensive part of the development is done, which is the asset creation.... I think Wii U owners would prefer just to have the game over the "gamepad features" if it means it might not come, so this canned PR answer is silly.
How about adding a Wii U port to the main kickstarter campaign and making special gamepad features as a ridiculous stretch goal? Oh? Would that be less shady? My bad.
I hope Nintendo skips the big presentation at E3 again.... Watching the games "journalist" rage with anger because they aren't the ones giving us the news on new games is side-splittingly funny.
The games media believes they have to be the proxy between game company and game buyers, and when Nintendo does an end run around these arrogant people to go directly to their customers, they start writing petty attacks on Nintendo.... Ever since Nintendo started doing directs, the games media just gets more and more negative towards Nintendo......
I say good. These self-entitled "journalist" can go pound sand. They remind of MSNBC/CNN/ABC/CBS/NBC, etc. When they can't be in control how information is deseminated they go ballistic with an attack on whoever is trying to escape their bias/spin filters. So let the games "journalist" twist on the Vine by just doing another direct instead of a stage performance,
Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey Millenium Girl, SM3DW (still taking it one level at a time to 100% completion), DKTF (still 100%ing this as well)...
I just picked up AC4/Black Flag and Splintercell Blacklist both for $20 new, not a bad deal at all, so I may crack those open sometime this weekend if I can find some time.
@Monsti makes perfect sense. They don't think it will make enough money in that region to pay for the translation.... French Canadian and Mexico Spanish is slightly different than France and Spain, so they would have to do a full translation/speech update.... Same reason why they won't just use British English for the American copy and vice versa
Pretty simple concept here. Nintendo doesn't think it will sell enough copies in Canada/Mexico to cover the localization/translation for smaller demographics.
@Lebon14 wow, so living in Canada is like living under tyranny? That's almost as bad as New York banning table salt and sodas.... No offense, but that is insane that the government would dictate something like that. What's next, are you going to tell me your government forces you to subsidize people's poor decisions and unhealthy eating choices as well?
I will be getting this game, like I pick up all of the Atlus's games.... Sigh, I might as well open an account with them and have money transferred directly to them. Strange that this game is getting panned everywhere, but this is the first review I saw that was an 8... I take it the others only like certain RPG's
@ricklongo my 3DS has turned into an RPG box, this is a crazy great system, probably the best portable I ever owned, content wise.
@epicdude12302 actually the art style blows paper Mario out the water.... As much as I love Nintendo, this is one game has topped any paper game Nintendo has made.
@Yasume it's the exact reason why I have purchased this in North America yet..... When introducing a new series that you want to take off in a new territory, you need to set a lower price to build an audience, and if the series is really good, people will pay full price on the next one.
I'll agree with this statement. Most gamers have no idea what they want..... I see people begging for a brand new 2D Metroid on Wii U. Wtf can they do in 2D that the 3DS wouldn't be able to do?
That's kind of the point of having a console, to do things that are not possible on the portable, to have a grand experience. And you will not get a grand experience creating another 2D Metroid on a console. I'm all for getting a new 2D adventure on the 3DS. But not on Wii U. The console already has a glut of 2D games. No thanks.
The UK just is not into Nintendo. The Wii U only sold 200k-300k systems there. I bet that's mostly the people that come to this website.
No offense my UK friends, but your country just doesn't like Nintendo very much..... I think Nintendo should shower the two territories in generous Nintendo gifts that actually do buy Nintendo products.
The fact the core game is on Unity for 50,000. Why does it cost them $200,000 to port it to Wii U? Its within Unity, porting is a snap when the engine runs natively on a system.........
The fact is they are only using Wii U owners to exploit the game drought.... Picture a villain from any cartoon saying "These idiot Wii U owners are so desperate for games that they will pay my $200,000 ransom". Because let's be honest that's basically why they added a stretch goal that is 4x bigger than the base of the game. Dev kits are rather cheap for indie devs, Nintendo has very low licensing fees for indie devs, the approval process is getting praise.
Porting from Unity to Unity is a fairly easy process, multiple devs have praised how easy it is to port tier Unity game to Wii U, so there is no complex developing needed. The gamepad is no different than programming games to use two monitors, such as on PC, so even a first year programmer can do it, but even easier the support for the gamepad is built into Unity already, so there no in depth programmer required..... These devs are just trying to take advantage of Wii U owners. A Wii U stretch goal for a game made in Unity should cost no more than $10,000 where the entire game is funded for $50,000. I hope their kickstarter fails for this behavior. They are the EA of indie developers.
@ricklongo what will happen is that stretch will fail (and it should fail), but they will bring the game to Wii U anyways as it's too cheap to do so to ignore the eshop. It will be already fully funded and created within Unity, they won't be able to ignore it, it's like leaving free money on the table.
I gave up gaming when I turned 25 as I concentrated on my career. After getting married I came back to gaming as me and my wife have opposite schedules so I needed a time waster for while she was at work.... Besides, she plays Facebook games anyways, so I might as well start playing Nintendo/PC again.
@Sean_Aaron I think the rating systems in Europe just needs to change, she's like the 12th developer that has mentioned how terrible it is in Europe for getting your game out. They should cut some slack on smaller developers, perhaps based on intended price target.
I'll be a day one customer. I like this genre. I still play bit trip runner. I really do appreciate the 60fps. All platformers should run at that speed, period. Cough cough I'm looking at you Sony and your 30fps platformer
@midnafanboy uhh, it was a glitch and never intended to be in the game in the first place. There is no outside forces threatening them about it.
Like all glitches and software bugs, when they are discovered by the developer they fix it..... Unless your EA or Ubisoft, then the glitches/bugs stay for eternity.
I bet all the people criticizing this game on here from a few months ago feel pretty stupid now.
Never judge a game this far out from release.... Everything was a place holder and they didn't apply any effects, but they still released a video to show off the mechanics of the game, and they were harshly criticized here with accusations of an N64 game.
Its coming along nicely and this is still Pre-Alpha footage. Lets wait until it gets close to release before we bash it.
@Heiki indies are the only developers (besides Nintendo) that are experimenting. All the other platform holders and publishers keep releasing the same exact games with zero new gameplay mechanics, just prettier graphics and no interesting new ways to play.... Like the latest 3d Mario is bursting with new ideas almost every level, no big time publishers are doing that, just indies and Nintendo
@Dark-Link73 now if they can set this up to automatically download the day it releases I could see the benefit. I could buy something online when I'm at work and have it downloaded and installed by the time I get home, I would be all over that kind of service.
@Nintenjoe64 I wouldn't be surprised at no DLC for 3D World. Nintendo no doubt has a ton of unused ideas from 3D World, that may make dlc feasible, but knowing Nintendo, they would turn it into a full blown game on its own so they can sell it for full price..... That's how Galaxy 2 was created, and Nintendo would make a killing doing that as opposed to dlc.
@WiiULoveGBA if it comes out for 3DS that would be the equivalent of Nintendo waiving the white flag on Wii U.
If Nintendo is serious about turning the Wii U around, they would keep firing 3D Mario at the Wii U in addition to other major franchises..... A Galaxy type of Mario game for Wii U would help move systems. 3D World sold several million copies in less than 3 months on tiny install base (while moving half a million consoles)
@epicdude12302 @Nik-Davies nobody can sue anybody in China. They don't have copyright laws... In fact they even boast about it in China with a popular joke "Our copyright laws says we have a right to copy your idea"
Lawsuits don't matter. If Nintendo wants a piece of that China market they will be competing with blatant rip offs of their idea..... In fact they will run into businesses that will use Nintendo's logo and seal of quality emblem, because they don't care.
@Yorumi Its a money issue... If the extra work you put into a port to optimize it and it only sells a few thousand copies, that is a failed business venture.
Using the power of the Wii U or the Gamepad as a scapegoat to not work on it is complete BS. They need to just be honest "Sorry we cannot port our game to Wii U because we feel it won't make enough money to make the effort worth it" ... Thats all they need to say.
The one in particular is especially irking me. The whole project needs $50,000 to be made. But to get a Wii U port they are asking for $150,000 more?!
Jesus, this game is made on Unity, it isn't hard to port it over at all. It's actually a very simple affair. And don't give me that gamepad crap, as it isn't difficult at all to work with. First year programmers would know how to output to the gamepad, and that's without engine support built in... With the support already inside of Unity on Wii U, it's even easier.
They are trying to take advantage of Wii U owners. If the entire game needs $50,000, how in the world would a port cost 3x that...... This developer can drop dead before I would give him a dime.
Hex Heroes, Festival of Magic and Cult County I will give a pledge later this week for sure.
@Marshi I don't think Nintendo would ever do a demo for their more popular franchises.... I guess the idea is that you've played all the previous entries you pretty much know what to expect.
This one isnt quite what Xenoblade would look like in HD because of how few polygons are used on the character models and the ultra low resolution textures.... I don't think Nintendo would let just an uprezzed port out the door, they would have to give the game a makeover
Probably the same reason why they chose Windwaker over TP/SS. A lot cheaper to give cel shaded graphics a facelift than poly/texture upgrades
The art style is fine for an EO game. It will just feel wierd playing a SMT/Persona game with this kind of art style.
Still debating whether I'll get it. I want to play it, but at the same time I don't want Atlus to get the wrong idea that I want more games with this art style...... Could you imagine if the next SMT game has this art style? I think I would cry
The real reason:
iOS games have such a massive install base that the price can come down there. If Wii U had 300 million+ install base I bet it would cost $2 here too.
@thesilverbrick I will take that bet... Nintendo can't afford to miss the 2014 window on a game this big.... and Iwata himself can't especially afford it.
With the advent of patches, Nintendo wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of it when they find themselves int he position that they are.... a bad game is forever a bad game motto from Shiggy only applied back in the offline days of video games.
@GN004Nadleeh But you forget that the shareholders get to vote whether to keep Iwata around in a few months. Iwata could throw Smash and MK8 out fairly close to each other to pad sales of Wii U just before the vote to try and hang on to his position.... lets be honest here. Mario Kart and Smash have been finished for quite some time, and only getting polished right now. They could be released as is at any time.
@Starwolf_UK watch the direct in the eshop the next day like I'm doing..the quality on Wii U's eshop is usually top notch.... if not, Nintendo also posts it to their YouTube account.

@Yasume it's the exact reason why I have purchased this in North America yet..... When introducing a new series that you want to take off in a new territory, you need to set a lower price to build an audience, and if the series is really good, people will pay full price on the next one.
Re: Microsoft's Ken Lobb: Metroid Prime Wouldn't Have Been Made If Nintendo Had Listened To The Fans
No thanks.
Re: Nintendo Titles Struggle for a Presence in UK Charts
@MAB You would see Nintendo pull out of the UK entirely before that happens.
Re: Nintendo Titles Struggle for a Presence in UK Charts
The UK just is not into Nintendo. The Wii U only sold 200k-300k systems there. I bet that's mostly the people that come to this website.
No offense my UK friends, but your country just doesn't like Nintendo very much..... I think Nintendo should shower the two territories in generous Nintendo gifts that actually do buy Nintendo products.
Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 13th April
@Jazzer94
Re: Veronica Mars Star Kristen Bell Reveals Her Former Love for The Nintendo 64
I gave up gaming when I turned 25 as I concentrated on my career. After getting married I came back to gaming as me and my wife have opposite schedules so I needed a time waster for while she was at work.... Besides, she plays Facebook games anyways, so I might as well start playing Nintendo/PC again.
Re: Interview: 4 Corner Games Tells Us Why It's Got to Run to the Wii U eShop
@Sean_Aaron I think the rating systems in Europe just needs to change, she's like the 12th developer that has mentioned how terrible it is in Europe for getting your game out. They should cut some slack on smaller developers, perhaps based on intended price target.
I'll be a day one customer. I like this genre. I still play bit trip runner. I really do appreciate the 60fps. All platformers should run at that speed, period. Cough cough I'm looking at you Sony and your 30fps platformer
Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy
Re: Road Redemption's Latest Footage Looks a Bit More Like Road Rash
I bet all the people criticizing this game on here from a few months ago feel pretty stupid now.
Never judge a game this far out from release.... Everything was a place holder and they didn't apply any effects, but they still released a video to show off the mechanics of the game, and they were harshly criticized here with accusations of an N64 game.
Its coming along nicely and this is still Pre-Alpha footage. Lets wait until it gets close to release before we bash it.
Re: Next-Generation Visual Novel Nero Confirmed For Wii U eShop
@Heiki indies are the only developers (besides Nintendo) that are experimenting. All the other platform holders and publishers keep releasing the same exact games with zero new gameplay mechanics, just prettier graphics and no interesting new ways to play.... Like the latest 3d Mario is bursting with new ideas almost every level, no big time publishers are doing that, just indies and Nintendo
Re: You Can Now Pre-Order eShop Games Via Nintendo UK's Online Store
@Dark-Link73 now if they can set this up to automatically download the day it releases I could see the benefit. I could buy something online when I'm at work and have it downloaded and installed by the time I get home, I would be all over that kind of service.
Re: RPG Earthlock: Festival of Magic Will Be Casting A Spell On Wii U Next Year
I love turned based combat. It fits Nintendo systems extremely well.
Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U
Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U
Re: Weirdness: These Chinese Game Controllers Look Wii-ly Familiar
@epicdude12302 @Nik-Davies nobody can sue anybody in China. They don't have copyright laws... In fact they even boast about it in China with a popular joke "Our copyright laws says we have a right to copy your idea"
Lawsuits don't matter. If Nintendo wants a piece of that China market they will be competing with blatant rip offs of their idea..... In fact they will run into businesses that will use Nintendo's logo and seal of quality emblem, because they don't care.
Re: Video: Silicon Studios Shows Off Tech Demo of Yebis 2 Advanced Optical Effects Middleware
Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 6th April
I really don't like these absurd stretch goals.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th April (Europe)
@TurretGunZ wow, easy there tiger
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th April (Europe)
@Marshi I don't think Nintendo would ever do a demo for their more popular franchises.... I guess the idea is that you've played all the previous entries you pretty much know what to expect.
Re: Nintendo Registers An Intriguing S.T.E.A.M Trademark For A New Game
Wow, could this be the infamous Myamoto's latest project? Rumor was he was working on a FPS.
Re: Video: What Could Xenoblade Chronicles Look Like In HD?
This one isnt quite what Xenoblade would look like in HD because of how few polygons are used on the character models and the ultra low resolution textures.... I don't think Nintendo would let just an uprezzed port out the door, they would have to give the game a makeover
Probably the same reason why they chose Windwaker over TP/SS. A lot cheaper to give cel shaded graphics a facelift than poly/texture upgrades
Re: Video: Atlus Serves Up an Early Look at Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth's Battle System
Re: Mobot Studios Is Bringing iOS Hit Gears To Wii U This Spring
@FarsanBaloo @goonow updating textures cost money
The real reason:
iOS games have such a massive install base that the price can come down there. If Wii U had 300 million+ install base I bet it would cost $2 here too.
Re: Mobot Studios Is Bringing iOS Hit Gears To Wii U This Spring
@ThomasBW84 don't listen to Falchion, I thought the article was very punny.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype on 8th April
Re: Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype on 8th April
Re: Super Smash Bros. Direct Will Bring the Hype on 8th April
@Starwolf_UK watch the direct in the eshop the next day like I'm doing..the quality on Wii U's eshop is usually top notch.... if not, Nintendo also posts it to their YouTube account.
