I only have Nintendo consoles: NES Classic, Gamecube, N3DS, Wii, Wii U, Switch. If I was to buy a PS4 it would only be for NHL2018, Madden 2018, and car racing... these are absent on the switch as of yet. Though there's no technical reason for this to be true, I really enjoyed Need for Speed on the Wii U... I'm hoping these games will get on the Switch so I won't have to even think about buying anything else.
There are so many amazing games that come out on Nintendo consoles, for the most part I find there is simply no reason to consider another system.
The wrist-straps are really an amazing feature. Combined with the split-controller nature of the joy-con the switch works amazingly on fitness equipment like the Precor elliptical I use it on. Without wrist straps this would not work.
Big warning to all(in case you care)... I purchased this today, but was totally shocked to see a compulsory end-user agreement that forces agreement to automatic updates as well as user-tracking, etc. I can't recall this kind of user-agreement being on any Nintendo game before? Especially forced acceptance of user-tracking, etc. I declined it, called Nintendo and they arranged for a refund.
@UNSOLUTEDSALT I hate to break it to you, but you're not out of the woods yet. Mario Cart 8 deluxe is still available! Are you going to be able to continue skipping it for the foreseeable future?
@Rocossa Perhaps if they made the inventory extremely small, only allowed a few herbs to be available for healing, limited weapon availability greatly and limited save points and required the use of limited availability typewriter tape to save... then it would be truly difficult!
In other news, video games are found to provide unrealistic portrayals of everything.
In this case, Nintendo is creating an unrealistic portrayal of classic subsistence-based farming milking. The calf wasn't taken away from the mother. The farmer took extra milk from the cow, and the cow continued to give milk after the calf was weaned. Nothing horrific going on there, nor in this portrayal.
@Henmii ? The patch is 160MB. Hardly a memory eater. Of course frame rate improvement is important. The game is beautiful and a lot of fun. It's not clear what your point is.
this is all speculation at this point, but I"m wondering if this is simply a 'warning', that it would be necessary in a worst case scenario... as in, if the entire game had to be updated, it would no longer work off the cart, so 13GB install would be necessary. Content update could be between 10KB and 13GB kind of thing.
@DatDog I'm not sure you read what I wrote. I didn't say that I thought not putting the whole game on the cart was a good idea. What I said is I'm not sure that this is WB's fault.
If Nintendo is charging extra for the larger cart, that may be out of WB's control. If so, they may be choosing between the options in my post: 1) charging more for the switch version, 2) eating the cost, 3) getting a smaller cart and putting content on SD via download.
Aside from all this, it seems like we don't have all the info yet so we need an update on what the real situation is on this game
I don't think WB should be blamed here. If it's because the carts cost more then their choices were to eat the cost/charge more/use a cheaper smaller cart.
I think the reality is every switch owner needs an sd card. Games are going to get patched, and when they do it will have to be installed to the memory.
I would have said I like the physical cart, however I wouldn't be interested in having to pay an extra $10 for it, and even if the difference isn't significant, games on the sd cards may have better performance...
@dkxcalibur Well, it isn't affecting people who haven't noticed it. I play with my pro controller so much that I haven't noticed if my joy-cons have this problem. I only use my joy-cons connected to the unit in portable mode. I really should test them out, but I like the pro controller too much
I don't think there is anything different between this game and any other zelda game... apart from the sheer scope of area that you can explore in this game.
The other 3D games are the same, just with tiny playable areas. The large area obviously removes the focus, and makes it tougher to steer the player in a straight line.
There is no reason to go back to the old way of looking like a vast world, but not really letting you go there. That is, unless, they don't want to spend the development time on creating such an open space.
I think that future games should use the same maps, at least if Link goes to the same area... things could be updated if they want to enhance it, and structures/etc. could change for a new story... but if Link is going back to the same place, it would be weird if it was different. New areas obviously would be totally new maps...i guess that is the point of the DLC, which should be awesome...
All they would need is a more linear story and it would feel more 'traditional'... that would probably work as a nice add-on to the existing map where we already played it 'open-world'. Make travel to locations time sensitive, limit some of the environments into towns, castles, dungeons/etc. with more platforming elements
@ieatdragonz Well, I think the point of cartridges is they are much faster than optical media. DVDs are pretty much useless to play off of, so they have to be installed to hard drives. The cartridges allow a way to play the game without installing it onto a faster medium... though in this case the cartridges are slower than the internal memory.
These might be faster than a hard drive based system though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It seems like a home console to me. It works well on a tv. Certainly the graphic power isn't as strong as a PS4, but personally I'm not wowed by photorealism. I don't find photorealistim itself fun. Certainly I'm not against a game looking great, but the race of graphic power simply makes making games more expensive. And what was awesome, (ps one), becomes useless(b/c of PS4), and the PS4 will then become lame(b/c of ps5).
I don't agree that better graphics means more immersive. I find it easy to lose hour after hour in breath of the wild, but I find, for example, watching even a minute of Skyrim makes me vomit.
my fear is that some developers won't bother to bring what could be a great game on the switch because it's not as 'powerful'... but time will tell. Even the wii u has lots of great games, i must have 30 great games even for it. I don't need thousands of games, I can't afford the time or money for that many...
i find the voices in this game incredibly off putting and annoying. Maybe it's partly because the game is so utterly barren, but the voices don't fit the game at all, and completely dominate the feel of the game.
i'm not sure i've ever played a game as disappointing as this one. It's incredibly dumb that the only multiplayer options are 4 or 8 player. Just let it slide up from 2-8 by one player. The computer players are not fun to play with. They hijack the match, and you end up sitting there watching them for the last two minutes...
I think that ratings, reviews and activity charts take care of the quality issue fine.
The problem with the Wii U and 3DS eShop was the complete lack of organization. You hit a genre button on the main page, and then slide through page after page of who knows what. There were plenty of games hidden in the eShop, but no effective way to discover them.
I've preordered the system, a couple games, and a couple of pro controllers. I don't have a problem buying one system at the price listed. However, to take advantage of the system's local multiplayer, our family will need multiple systems. I would like to be able to buy a second system without the dock, and without the grip. This option would be nice for people who only want to play it portable.
I'm surprised that I haven't seen much of any discussion about what Reggie said in that Wired article. He said that the system allowed players to play online on-the-go. The smartphone interface allowed for voice chat using earbuds instead of bulky gamer interfaces, and that people could play online wherever they went. This seemed really key to the whole Nintendo online approach.
It seems to me that they've designed it the way they did for the purpose of mobility. The smartphone becomes the 'second screen' in a sense. you can chat while playing your game without the tv interface being used for that purpose. Voice chat can be done, etc... and at the very least because of hotspot capability, you can play online wherever you go, with all the chat features...
Obviously, since all the communication is being done via the smartphone, no resources need to be dedicated to the switch for this, and you probably will be able to get a game request in your regular feeds... so you know someone wants to play with you, even away from your system.
wired interview quote below:
"The reason for that is, it continues to reinforce our commitment to online, and do so in a way that will enable the consumer to enjoy their Nintendo Switch and to still be able to play those connected experiences—like Splatoon, like Kart, like fill in the blank—while they’re on the go. Instead of having some sort of bulky gamer headset, you’ll be able to do it right off your smartphone, put in your earbuds that you use for your standard mobile device. We think that’s a pretty sweet solution. That’s part of the overall opportunity that we see in a subscription service."

There's no choice. EA is the only company making an NHL game. I desperately want them to bring it to Switch. NHL 2018 AND NHL 94.
Madden and Need for Speed would be good too. I really liked what they did on the Wii U.
