Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited (Switch)

derrin

I've been waiting for this. Picked it up right away. So far seems fine. The presentation isn't as glossy as an EA game, but the racing is ok. It's the best car racing game(not including RMX style or cart style) on the Switch!(Cars 3 held this honour until today).

I'm curious about what the reviewer means by no online. I haven't done it, but it says compete with players online... who's wrong?

Re: Rocket League Blasts Onto the Nintendo Switch on 14th November

derrin

@Shiryu oooh that's too bad. I see that there 'could' be something coming at some point... so i will keep that preorder in case... but it looks like digital only for now.

I like physical versions when possible so that I can share the carts between my unit and my kids' one(the one they don't know they're getting for christmas).

since rocket league is a multiplayer game and fairly cheap, it will probably be worth getting a copy for each system... but I still would prefer one to be physical...

Re: Review: Violett (Switch eShop)

Ha. You talk about point and click being obtuse. I much prefer the old text-parsing graphic adventures(i.e. King's Quest II, Space Quest I, II, III, Police Quest I, II) Needing to figure out what WORD to use made the game in some ways much harder, but actually much more fun. Instead of being just a game of clicking on everything, there was a degree of thinking required to consider what needed to be said.

Re: It's Not Just The Switch Which Received A Firmware Update Today

derrin

@roykoopa64 I think it happens when they get plugged into the system. So, it shouldn't be a problem for many people. I have a lot of joy cons and charge them often off the unit, so yea it would be nice to get some kind of message on the unit after the update saying to plug all joy cons in for an update.

Re: It's Not Just The Switch Which Received A Firmware Update Today

@SLIGEACH_EIRE How much have you used them? I certainly have no problem with you hating them, but after initially thinking I wouldn't like them, and having quite large hands, I have found that I mostly use them, and don't bother with my two pro controllers most of the time. It is very comfortable having the hands separated in a natural way.

I will agree that the sideways mode isn't really great. It's a bit better with the strap, and even a bit better with the recharging single joy con grip... but it is by no means unplayable, especially for short sessions...

I'm curious if you will find your opinion shifting once you use them more.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry on the 'Custom' Merits of FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch

derrin

This game is really great. A ton of fun and worth getting. It seems to me that initially they weren't going to call it FIFA 18, but when there was an uproar they said it would be called FIFA 18.

Yes there are some modes missing, but EA has been upfront about most of it, and I'd like to hope for more sports games and improved new versions. That isn't going to happen if people kill it with negativity.

The game has less features some other versions, sure, but it is a good game. A great game really. Maybe the PS4 version is better, so people who have a PS4 should get it. Except you can't play that version on the go, and for those of us without a PS4 or Xbox one, the Switch version is the one to get.

I want to see Madden and NHL on the Switch too. But I'm really excited about FIFA and NBA2K, and having a ton of fun with them.

Re: Nintendo Switch Surges in Japanese Charts as Fire Emblem Warriors Makes Debut

derrin

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don't agree with you at all saying that Nintendo Switch FIFA is abysmal. There is a much larger install base with PS4 and Xbox compared to the Switch. There are 4.7 million Switches sold worldwide compared to close to 69 million PS4s. In Japan, 1.5 million switches have been sold, while there has been 4.7 million PS4 sold. In the first week, 55,919 PS4 FIFA 18s were sold, or approx 0.01%. By comparison, 12,616 Switch FIFA 18s were sold, or approx 0.01%.

I don't think the Switch is doing badly at all on this game, considering it's an 'inferior' version feature wise.

Re: 2K Goes for a Chokehold With Its WWE 2K18 Season Pass

This doesn't seem to be a season pass. A season pass i supposed to be a one time payment for access to the DLC throughout the season. This seems more like a club membership, where you get some initial perks, and a discount towards ongoing DLC.

Re: Video: Here's What NBA 2K18 Looks Like on the Switch

derrin

The game is really great. I have no interest in the extra modes. I just like to play a game. I’m glad this game is on the switch. Hopefully they’ll patch the problems, but I certainly wouldn’t prefer it wasn’t on the system at all.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

@8itmap_k1d I think a number scoring system is essential. I don't know as much about games as these professionals do, and many games I get I don't get anywhere close to finishing. Talking about things for pages and pages is fine, but the scores help to give a better sense of where the game is at. I prefer it when a site gives subscores for graphics/gameplay/etc. That helps even more.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

derrin

@Hughesy I don't want to have to wait another month to play what i'm playing...load up two teams and play a game. Maybe they should have sold the game for $20 with just basic modes, and then charge extra to get other modes as they release them after they fix them.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

derrin

@scully1888 @RedMageLanakyn @ThumperUK @Tibob Maybe they should do something called a 'Preliminary Report'. This is different than a Preview which often seems to be a fluffy piece that sometimes seems to be paid for by the maker of the game(I don't mean here on NintendoLife). NintendoLife does not need to review the game until they are ready to... they sometimes wait days or weeks after a game comes out to do a review. However, we all want to know ASAP to help us make a purchase. They put out this unscored review which gives people an important heads up, while still holding off on their score until they are ready to give it...

Personally, I think the game is great and worth getting even today. I have no interest in many of the modes that seem most broken. A low score would do a disservice to a good game.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

derrin

@wiggleronacid With the physical version only having a small part of the game on the cart, for me the only reason I'm keeping my physical preorder is because I got a great deal on it during E3. I want a second copy for when I get my son a switch. But I think that other than that, the digital is the way to go on this. It isn't going to have much trade in value in a year, and it will require patching anyways to deal with these bugs.

Personally, I buy a sports game to load it up and play a match, not all the extra stuff... I've found it to be great and certainly not worth missing... there aren't other options for a game like this right now on the switch.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

derrin

@airsonist I've been playing NBA2k18 and I think it's great. I have no interest in MyTeam, MyLeague, etc., etc. I buy a sports game so that I can load up two teams and play a match. In that respect, I wish they'd cancel all the resources they put into all the cutscenes at least... a league simulator is fine, just keep it more stat based. They try and do too much, and it bogs down development.

So far I haven't experienced any problems playing a game... maybe I will at some point, but so far it's a lot of fun.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

derrin

@kobashi100 I hadn't thought about this until the other day... NBA2K18 loads very quickly. If a lack of compression is the reason, I say no problem. I don't have an issue even with SD cards. My only real issue is the 5GB save file and that you can't put that onto an SD card.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

@Jamotello Yes! I can't stand feeling like I'm sitting watching nonsense for half the time. I want to have a contest against the computer or with a buddy. There needs to be a Play the Game mode, where you can actually just play the game.

Re: We Could See More FIFAs On Switch Beyond FIFA 18

derrin

@dizzy_boy Yes. Even a port of the Wii U one would be better then 'nothing'. I really enjoyed the Wii U version. I just wish it had single console multiplayer. Maybe they could add that in. Obviously a new edition would be nice too, but I would take anything at this point.
