Earlier today, Sid Meier's Civilization VI was announced for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It will be arriving on 22nd November and will include the "Rise and Fall" and "Gathering Storm" expansions, along with 18 additional leaders.
So, what has this got to do with Nintendo? Well, on the same date, these expansions will be made available for the Switch version of the game. This was confirmed via the official Sid Meier's Civilization Twitter account:
It's worth pointing out that the expansions will be a digital-only release and that the bundle will be priced at $49.99 USD / the regional equivalent elsewhere.

This makes me very happy. Playing Civilization on Switch is a surprisingly chill experience for me, but it really was hard to justify playing that version over the PC one with all the expansions.

Was actually playing this game tonight. I saw the State of Play (which wasnt very good imo), and i saw they announced this and was like what the hell?? I guess i just figured Switch would have got it after PS4, as is tradition.
This game is a serious timesuck though. I may get the expansion if and when all the new great games dry up...which doesnt seem to be any time soon. Civ is my gap-bridger between new games. Cant get too many too often or the wife gets mad haha
This is awesome! It's one of these rare occasions when I'm ready to sink another 50 bucks into the game. All we need now is a hotseat add-on.
Great stuff. There’s still so much I haven’t done with the Original but this is a great addition to what is a superb game on Switch.
I bought this from argos ages ago but havent started as I've been waiting to see if dlc was released. I don't know whether to be excited or scared, I played the civ 1 mobile version more than I ever would like to admit!!

I attempted to pre-order this game last year and couldn't. It was hard to get for a while but has since had numerous price drops. I've been wanting to get it but then I heard about these expansions a few months ago so I've held off. I will not be buying them digitally but I hope for a physical complete edition.I wonder what the chances of that are?
I'm tempted, but it feels a bit pricey? Still, it will definitely get on my watch-list. Maybe it will be on sale some day? Still have Skyrim, Days Gone and Red Dead Redemption 2 on my backlog though and right now all I play is Zelda : A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening so I don't have time for this at the moment.

Hmmm, might have to get the switch port of civ, haven't played sid meyer game since civ and pirates on the amiga 500....used to spend hours playing those games not doing my homework 🤣 is the switch version any good?

Yeah, the expansions make this game playable. With just the base game, Cub V is the better option by a country mile but Gathering Storm is a really good expansion. I don’t think I could go without mods though.
130 hours into the base game, it's passed BOTW as my most played game on Switch. It just never gets old. But I'm ecstatic about the expansion packs arriving soon.
New civs! New improvements! Governors! Changing loyalties! Climate change and weather disasters! It's going to be great!
To all the guys who are waiting for the price of the base game to drop, maybe stop waiting. Civ is currently $40 most places. That's a pretty reasonable price for a game like this.

At that price, I'd rather buy Civ V or a complete package of I-IV. They should release those older games, too, they're awesome.
@construx Even on PC it can be quite expensive - on Steam right now the base game is £49.99, Gathering Storm is £34.99 and Rise and Fall £24.99. For PC you can buy a code for the base game for much less elsewhere, but I think the expansions are only generally cheaper during sales.
@construx Currently the physical base game is about $40 most places, so the game with ALL expansions (including Khmer, Indonesia and Nubia) is right around $100.
Base game on PS4 and XBone is launching at $60, expansions are the same prices as on Switch.
Base is cheaper on Steam, but Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm are the same prices. The big expansions generally don't get any cheaper until the next version of Civ is released.
About time. I was tired of my Switch copy collecting dust. Vanilla feels so lacking without the expansion content.
$50.00 for both expansions is a reasonable price.
I need to play this more, and probably will never grab the expansion, but I did enjoy the little bit I put into the base game so far.

@Mountain_Man Probably (hopefully) because they are planning at least one more expansion.
@JamesJose7 I've yet to play the expansions but they add a whole host of new features including loyalty and natural disasters, not to mention 16 new civilizations and 2 alternate leaders. I'd say they're more than worth it. I'd like to think they'll also include the map editor with these expansions, but it's unconfirmed.

Digital only?? No thats wrong. I just bought the rise and fall bundle on my phsycial cart today on switch. Anyways thata totally wrong, it is not DIGITAL ONLY, it is also in a bundle for physical cart owners too. Also today it was on sale lol,
