Re: Xenoblade Studio Monolith Soft Is Hiring Staff For The Legend Of Zelda Series

andykara2003

Hmmm - If it’s a sequel to BOTW or a core, main series Zelda title, I hope it’s Nintendo EAD steering the ship in terms of design and especially puzzles and Monolith providing perhaps just some of the assets and general grunt work. I definitely would feel uncomfortable if N we’re to get in the habit of passing core Zelda titles wholly onto second party developers.

@timson72 I too absolutely don’t agree with everyone who says this game has aged badly. As you say, I think it’s just a case of getting re-used to the old controls. I play today on solitaire 1.2 controller layout and it’s as fast, fluid and frenetic as ever. I’m playing through it at the mo - It controls like a dream and I actually prefer it to most modern shooters as it’s such a pure, unadulterated game unencumbered by the sometimes stifling complexities of modern day gaming.

In real world usage with a fast connection I doubt they'll get below 25ms latency. Add another 20ms for your TV's response time and you have a laggy 45ms experience. This should be improved upon over time but only so much - until they find a way for signals to travel faster than light - perhaps one day quantum entanglement will be the way to eventual <5ms latency.

What’s happened to the mobile site? The ‘load more news’ button has been replaced by 4 buttons for past news. Press the appropriate button for this weeks news and you have to start from the top of today’s news again to and scroll down the page for further news. It’s way more inconvenient as you just want to click on a button to expand down and instantly get the next batch of older news without scrolling.

Re: Trials Rising On Switch Doesn't Rise Up To The Challenge Of Its Rivals

andykara2003

@Andy3004 I absolutely agree. This is slightly irresponsible reporting actually and could damage the profile of this version. I think there's been some influence here from some initial hysteria from various forums. The game runs at a pretty solid 30fps and the foggy graphics only apply to the first track. The others hold up very well. A lot of games play much worse at 30fps and some fare better for various reasons. This one doesn't suffer much & plays very well as far as I'm concerned. I've been playing on my PS4 pro and my Switch but will be buying it on the Switch for playing on the sofa while watching TV with the family. It has sublime and addictive gameplay - really enjoying this one.

@GrailUK I definitely agree with some of your points, but some of us want to see a plethora of Nintendo first party stuff. I also agree with you that there's such a high value to these games it would mean that a Netflix style services wouldn't serve them well. I just wish they would just let us buy the games we love & we could keep them forever - I hate the idea of non ownership when it comes to games.

Re: Talking Point: It's September And We Still Don't Know Enough About Nintendo Online

andykara2003

@cleveland124 @cleveland124 Good one Having read Eurogamer's article on Twilight princess on the shield, it seems that all the games including Mario Galaxy have their 2D elements in the original 480p resolution even though the rest of the game is in high res. I really hope that's not the case with Switch releases as it looks really disjointed. I found using the old N64 240p 2D elements in the uprezzed Wii VC N64 games ruined the look somewhat for me.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis Aces (Switch)

andykara2003

Another way to look at this:

If you don't like the new mechanics (I adore them), and you're not interested in the single player modes, remember that the core tennis 'simple mode' mechanics are still top notch, just as good as the N64 version.

Everyone seems to consider the N64 version the best - so imagine being able to play that with friends online. If you have a good online friend group that enjoys this, this game could be a 9 to you, and become a perennial staple in your arsenal to the level of MK8.

Re: Here's How Voice Chat Works In Fortnite On Nintendo Switch

andykara2003

@Iacobus I think this is the answer guys. It seems wierd at first but as a parent I wouldn't want a child below a certain age to be subjected to trash talk, which could be terribly damaging if directed towards a young mind. Parental controls are good but may be inadvertantly overlooked. Nintendo are very family focussed and want to avoid this kind of psychological damage as much as possible.

Re: Just How Good Is The Nvidia Shield Wii Emulator, And What Does It Mean For Switch Owners?

andykara2003

There's a big problem that I believe is being overlooked here. The Switch's motion pointer is not as capable as the Wii's. This is because the pointer is only relative and not absolute, which means it slowly drifts over time and would need regular re-centering in a game like Mario Galaxy. It's fine with short term use like in Splatoon, Zelda etc. But for the Galaxy games you need an active accurate pointer consistently across the whole game. It may mean that the eventual Switch version ends up being the inferior version control-wise.

Re: Mario's Stretchy Face In Mario 64 Started Out As An Experiment With Ping Pong Balls

andykara2003

@liveswired Nice one I've tried NO AA but didn't like it. It's funny, but I own every mod out there (I'm a somewhat obsessive N64 fan), but I still prefer the original RGB output on a good. low use consumer CRT. It's just a personal thing I guess. I have RGB modded PAL & N64s hooked up to a Sony BVM, a Loewe high end CRT and a consumer Trinition, both consoles with the new (Borti) RGB deblur mods & also the UltraHDMI & the NTSC funtastic with the 'superior' s-video - but as long as the consumer CRT has low hours (say under 1000), I can see why Nintendo went with that graphical output style. Any further softening from a more well used tube just takes that blur one step too far. The N64 looks weird (to me) on a professional CRT like the BVM, looks awful directly connected directly to an HDTV and even the UltraHDMI can't quite match the consumer Trinitron. Horses for courses I suppose - any which way is valid to enjoy this wonderful console.
