It’s absolutely crazy to see the middle age white boomer paranoid fear of public safety invade the Nintendo Life comment sections. What is this, the local news Facebook comment section?
@glitchedarrow Even if it was a joke it's pretty screwed up to just coldly call someone whatever-phobic, which is essentially the same as calling someone racist if it's referred to a ethnic group or a certain language speaker. Like, ha ha? Ok. Good one!
The internet has really turned fandom toxic almost everywhere. Everyone is so entitled and demanding that they be pleased. No one can just not like something. They feel like they have to weaponize their displeasure because what they want is by far the most important thing in the world
@CANOEberry Nintendo never even marketed that revision to the public. It just came out and people had to discover it was different. They weren’t selling the public that we needed this new device because it benefited us. They never even mentioned it.
@BloodNinja What leads you to believe it’s slander? Given what happened to this guy and he was never really successful again and just faded into the night, it sounds like it could very easily be true. Generally people don’t say something egregiously untrue when there are people who can easily verify it. If he was giving direction then there’s a whole team of Konami programmers who know whether that’s true or not. It wouldn’t make sense to lie about this when the lie could easily come crashing down.
Does anyone remember the original review for Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door in Game Informer where the reviewer scored the game ridiculously low (I forget the number) but was accosted constantly for it and he made the quote that was something along the lines of "Paper Mario is a kiddie game and that's why we rated it so low. We rate games here based on what our readers want." I always found that to be amazing they would go out of their way to rate a game based on their audience for the magazine and not how they perceived the game.
And in general the criteria for Smash doesn’t really seem to be “what’s the most influential characters in gaming.” Not for their playable characters at least. They may have picked Pac Man for that reason but everyone else with the exception of probably Joker have a Nintendo connection of some sort. If you don’t have a Nintendo connection the odds of being picked seem to be that much more difficult.
@Gravitron Like I said, all ports though. There wasn’t any sort of special relationship with Doom or ID with the exception of Doom 64. Bayonetta is definitely an oddball given the content but there’s a special relationship Nintendo has with that game condidering they resurrected the franchise and they have a special relationship with Platinum in general, that’s why she was picked. When you think Doom you don’t think Nintendo, when you think Bayonetta you do.
Generally, all the playable characters in Smash have some sort of deep Nintendo connection though. What’s Doomguy’s connection other than ports and one N64 game? Master Chief makes even less sense. That’s why Cuphead is just a Mii Fighter costume set and not it’s own character.
It’s bizarre people would pretty much spit in the face of these companies simply because they don’t cater to this insane less than 1% of the market that feel like they’re on some mission from god or something to collect every single video game ever. No one’s strong arming you into buying their products. You have a collecting sickness.
Maybe this kid should take some time to learn how to take “no” gracefully without trying to heap blame on the person telling him no. No one is entitled to publish an indie Switch game. Tough break kid, just make a better game and stop blaming others around you.
@rjejr That's an insane way to look at sales. It's not close to a billion less revenue when you're calculating 3 million Switch units at retail pricing. It's WAY less than that. You miscalculated the figure and then you rounded up.
Explain this to a relative lay person. If I have the GameCube component cables and a component to HDMI converter, am I going to see any improvement with this device or is it a lateral move?
Why are so many people complaining about Wayforward entering as a developer when they’re just handling debugging? Why are people concerned about farming out the debugging process? I think people are just using this to amplify their already lingering fears.
I’s Bizarre for me to hear people say “I don’t like people that get involved with politics” when the core incident is someone taking issue with someone saying the “N” word. It’s gross to hear people wave that off as “Eh, it’s politics” or “These damn Social Justice Warriors!” like none of this is worthy of getting upset over and it’s nonsense to take issue with that word’s usage. Pewdipie’s a turd. Anyways... this game was boring to me.
What’s kind of funny to me is that people are complaining that they bought these games 5 times already AND why can’t Nintendo just release them on Switch?!? Uh, can’t you play one of your 5 different versions of the game you already bought??
It's sad that the quest to become or maintain being middle class is looked on as being "money hungry" these days. Like, I don't think any employee at Limited Run Games are out there buying yachts off the sales of Golf Story or Saturday Morning RPG. They're probably spending their money trying to afford their kids dental plans or something. If they make a lot of games you aren't obligated to buy them all. Don't blame them for you being an apex consumer. You're allowed to NOT own a couple games.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN I don't hold it against Limited Run Games for doing this. Only they know their financial situation. I run a small record shop and I've done things that were not financial successes but knew it was something that pleased customers. I enjoy doing that from time to time because I enjoy making them happy and it also boosts customers' image of your shop. There is a good will investment when you make moves like that. It's just not something that customers should ever demand on a business because they don't know the internal financial situation of said business. I just hope a company like Limited Run Games don't make moves like this to capitulate the crazy demands of entitled fans, but rather because it's a nice goodwill gesture that they enjoy making.
I mean... yes, this is an example of a company that doesn't cancel a game simply because it won't sell enough and it's cool they're doing it, buuuuuut, no one should be demanding that other companies follow their example. If a company knows it's going to tank their finances they don't owe it to the fans to keep a promise. That's ridiculous. Fans' entitlement these days is pretty nuts if they think they're owed up to the point of wreaking financial chaos upon a company.
I keep saying this but do people really think Diablo III looked graphically amazing to begin with? It always looked (and kinda played) like remastered PS2 game to me.
I think it's funny that people are complain about an inferior version of Diablo III like it's some sort of graphical powerhouse. The game is fun and all but it's like a PS2 game got a fresh coat of paint. It's not that advanced, guys.
It's weird you would call a Metroid game Metroidvania. That's kinda like calling a Kafka novel Kafkaesque. That and you say Metroid Pinball is the only spin-off when you just listed Federation Force a couple entries before.
So you make an article saying they took the levels out but then in the article you admit that you really don’t know if they’ve been taken out? What’s the point of this article exactly?
Can anyone explain to me how playing on MAME makes playing Donkey Kong easier? Is there really a substantial difference to the skill level it takes to get a million points on MAME compared to a real board? Does it make a decent player excellent?
"Recreation of aging screenshots." Can anyone tell me how a screenshot can age? There's a ticking clock to make the game before the screenshots deteriorate?
What's up with people criticizing Miyamoto on this? I don't think you're looking further past the fact he scrapped the CGI cut scenes (My god, he's a dinosaur! Everyone does CGI now!) but overlook that NST had the CGI scenes created before the actual game was even close to being finalized. It would create an albatross around the game designers necks to fashion the gameplay around the cutscenes rather than having the cut scenes reflect the gameplay and wherever that would lead. It's a bad way to create a game, pretty irresponsible and potentially wasteful.
I have to assume they got litigious because he was charging money for the event. I bet he makes the same poster but it's for a free event then they don't care, or at least not enough to sue.
The only thing that I dislike about playing with Japanese players is simply not understanding the language and not being able to read into their personality through their handle. It's just a bunch of Japanese characters I don't understand. But then again, there are a lot of western gamers with really unoriginal and uninteresting handles. I just appreciate the more creative names.
This article misses a crucial point. You mention that other companies make a point to be transparent about their neuroticism. You mention Jonathan Blow, Phil Fish, Gabe Newell, Tim Schafer, Peter Molyneux and Warren Spector. You know what all those people have in common? They're the top men in their companies and they all talk about their OWN neuroticism. It's their prerogative to speak about their own neurosis, Chris Pranger took it upon himself to speak about the neuroticism of his fellow employees. It's simply not up to him to divulge that personal information.
@MightyKrypto Can you tell me who said they wouldn't understand because they aren't Japanese? What was the context? Is that an actual quote or just a filtered approximation? Is it the claim of an employee with an axe to grind because they were turning in sub par work? I think it's ridiculous to level the charge of racism without knowing ANY pertinent facts. It certainly should perk one's ears up, but based on this level of evidence I think it's ridiculous to go further. So many people here are taking an unnamed source as 100% fact. It's easy to manipulate people when you do that. Maybe people don't understand how heavy of a charge racism is? Or they don't care? Me, I want to know a little more before I start throwing around that word.

@CANOEberry But you’re using the previous revision as some sort of evidence that the OLED screen is bull****. Your rationale is out of whack.
