Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to be bigger and better than previous entries in the series, and as part of this, it's going to have more features and options to provide the best experience possible.
This will include English and Japanese language subtitle and dub support. The good news is that users won't have to download these language support features, like some other games. As highlighted on Nintendo's social channels - "no additional download" will be required.
"Whether you prefer to play with English or Japanese voices, #XenobladeChronicles3 includes both at launch – no additional download required!"
In other words, it'll all be there from the beginning - meaning it's a simple option you can select from in the menu. No updates or DLC packs will be required!
This follows a story about how lip-syncing in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has been adapted for both Japanese and English dialogue. In the recent Direct broadcasts, it was noted how the lip-syncing of Mio and Sena was different in the Japanese and English videos.
So, there you go - if you're not really feeling certain accents, or just want to hear the game in Japanese, you'll have options to choose from. How will you be listening to the dialogue in Xenoblade Chronicles 3? Leave a comment down below.

It would be funny if they included English and American English.
@Erigen thats not a bad idea, Im a native spanish speaker and tv shows and movies that have both european spanish and latam spanish languages are very welcome since they are very different culture wise
No Tagalog? Nintendo seriously just proves/ slowly reveals how phobic they are as the years pass on.
Stomach churning honestly
Nice way to accommodate all preferences. No matter the choice, I hope everyone enjoys the game. Shaping up to be significant.
Very nice and I’m glad Nintendo and Monolith recognize the added intrinsic value this gives the game.
It’s great to have easy access to either language, especially years from now when servers stop providing updates and DLC.
Choices are always good. I don’t really like reading subtitles while playing games (or watching movies) I think it breaks the immersion. So I don’t like it when something doesn’t have English or Dutch voices.
And honestly I’m usually okay with made-up languages, like in games as The Sims or Splatoon.
@AzzyC How is it phobic to not include Tagalog? I'm not sure if Xenoblade and Nintendo have a large following in the Philippines, if it is, I semi get where you're coming from, but the game can't support every language spoken on Earth. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 also doesn't support languages like Hindi or Portugese, which have significantly more speakers than Tagalog, and the omission of these languages doesn't exactly make Nintendo racist.
@AzzyC can you even name a title that supports that language?
Yay! I love it when games do this. Even better when they allow for Japanese subtitles.
Can we hope for real subtitles and not dubtitles this time? I assume not, but one can dream.
Great news. I hate when cheapskate (and/or hasty) publishers leave this sort of content out of the base game.
@Joekun : Yeah, that's a huge pet peeve of mine. I hardly know any Japanese (I had only studied for a couple of years quite some time ago, much of which I had forgotten), but even I can tell that the "dubtitles" often don't reflect the Japanese dialogue.
@glitchedarrow @Erigen : You guys don't get jokes much, do you?
They are absolutely mad. I can't wait to hear about the dub vs sub debate here...
Well thats nice to hear at least.
Removed - off-topic
But this means you’ll need to download both…. That’s kind of strange, I much rather only download the language you use… takes up less space that way
This is good news. The battle dialogue in English drives me mad in Xenoblade games to the point of making them unplayable.
I'm cancelling my preorder. There's no Klingon!
These guys are wizards.
@glitchedarrow check your calendar friend, it is 2022, early in the decade of the victim card.
I usually play Xenoblade series with Dub for the first playthrough and Jpn voices for 2nd playthrough. It makes experience little bit fresh
I'll stick to the British accents I think even though that being said I've always liked the sound of Japanese voice acting even if I don't understand a word of it.
FINALLY maybe once someone really gives gamers a choice... What people forget is JPN voice gives more emphasis to the emotion and draws plays into investing more time to understand language spoken gives mention to the context of the game. I take that any day over EN dubbed some are horrible and clearly miss the emotions ruining game play all together.
One of my favorite things about XBC2 was the variety of English accents. I enjoyed the voices.
Glad I’m getting this game physically on cartridge. From everything I’ve seen, this is going to be one large game and I don’t think my microSD would be able to handle it and all the screenshots I’m gonna want to take! This game looks like it’s gonna be amazing!
@AzzyC My bad if it was a joke! It's a little difficult to get the tone of something off of the internet without indicators. Have a nice day!
As it should be!
@glitchedarrow Even if it was a joke it's pretty screwed up to just coldly call someone whatever-phobic, which is essentially the same as calling someone racist if it's referred to a ethnic group or a certain language speaker. Like, ha ha? Ok. Good one!
I always play games or watch movies in their original language, otherwise it breaks the immersion for me. So glad it has japanese. Plus it sounds phonetically way better.
There are 2 games where I would go for the EN Dub, Persona and Xenoblade. I'm British and it's so rare to actually have decent UK accents in a RPG/JRPG. Persona keeps the American accents because I started playing the Series 15 years ago before I learnt Japanese or lived there. Choice is always great for sure!
It's only fine since it's all on retail cart, not wasting any space on SD besides patches.
Xenoblade together with Dragon Quest are one of the few where I don't change the dub to japanese.
Good. I haven't been this excited about a new game in a long time. Bring it on!!!!
