DOOM Eternal has been delayed until next year, but the fact that you can get a free copy of DOOM 64 when you pre-order has taken the sting out of the news a little bit.
We're now getting the chance to see how this N64 classic scrubs up on modern hardware, and the answer is: pretty good. The short trailer above shows that the 2D sprites have retained that slightly fuzzy look, but the whole package is a big improvement on the rather soupy original (which we played using an RF connection, if you can believe that).
DOOM 64 launches alongside DOOM Eternal on PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 20th, 2020. As has been previously reported, the Switch version will be coming "at a later date".

Nice, I still have this on the N64
N64 and RF connection... those were the days.
Wait... you’re saying DOOM 64 has been delayed too?
Why on Earth delay this game as well though?
Man, those graphics actually look pretty damn good. Love a bit of DOOM and have never played this one so might pick it up.
Wait. So it was delayed from Nov... and now will be even further out than the other versions? Ffs. Why?
The biggest sting for me is that i have to wait til march for Doom 64.
Cool, but is Doom 64 GOOD? I've always had the impression it was pretty lackluster. Or maybe I'm thinking of Doom SNES.
Like others said.. They've delayed Doom64 too?
WTF, why does THAT need delaying until March? :-
@nessisonett defintely worth checking this one out if you were a fan of the first 2, some consider this to be the "real" Doom 3
You'll enjoy this one!
But why?
It's a worse version of Doom 2.
If a lawt of peeple play DOOM 64, the wurl wuld bee a better place
Well no because it says in the trailer doom 64 will be releasing same date all platforms
Everyone understands that this means N64 games can be ported to the Nintendo Switch, right? This is me hoping for an N64 library for Switch Online.
It would make much more sense to me for them to release Doom 64 now so we've got something to play while waiting for Doom Eternal. Releasing 64 at the same time as Eternal pretty much guarantees it won't get played (unless I don't like Eternal).
Namco did the same thing with Ace Combat 7, my pre-order copy of Ace Combat 6 never got touched as I was on to the next game after beating 7.
DOOM 64 still releases on March 20 on Switch alongside the other versions, just not along DOOM Eternal
Switch eshop still says Nov 22nd
@Dr_Corndog
That's Snes Doom.
Doom 64 is a whole new game, build from the ground up for the N64.
It's more or less Doom 3 before Doom 3.
@ummyeahnintendo
I'm hoping for the two Zelda's, Wave Race, Starfox and and
I assume this is not available as a stand alone entry?
@Darkyoshi98 Yeah, I'm wondering if they just haven't updated that yet or what. I'm sure they'll probably end up pushing out to March though...
@StevenG What are you talking about worse version of Doom 2? All the sprites are different and all the levels are completely unique.
@mist zero people likes this comment. Zero people didn’t get the reference. I did.
@VinylCreep The levels were made smaller to deal with the limits of the N64. The sprites are better, but that doesn't make up for the fact that iD didn't even make it.
@StevenG Literally none of that makes it a worse Doom 2. You’re just saying you don’t like it.
@BulkSlash @Doktor-Mandrake @carlos82 @lyle_catcliffe
I'm pretty sure Doom 64 is still releasing for Switch on November 22nd as originally planned. I had assumed it was delayed too going by NL's wording in the previous Doom Eternal article but then 64 appeared on the Eshop the other day.
@ummyeahnintendo
Why would the Switch be incapable of running N64 games? There's already a homebrew N64 emulator for Switch that's been out for over a year.

@ummyeahnintendo you do realise that two N64 Turok games are already on Switch, the Gamecube could run N64 games so why wouldn't Switch?
@OorWullie does it have a release date on the eshop? Even Bethesda's own wording suggests it's been delayed
Its definitely been delayed

Definitely my favorite Doom game, so I really hope they don't mess this one up.
@Giygas_95 I've been wondering the same
They definitely screwed Nintendo fans over with this the most, not only is Eternal delayed to God knows when on the Switch, we have to suffer the delay of Doom 64 from November to March just to make other platforms feel happier about the delay......this is just BS -_-
Fun fact: This is being developed by Nightdive, who previously did the Turok 1 and 2 remasters.
@ottospooky
Underwear that's life!
Glad they re-release this game. Love remasters. Look at the widescreen video. We will enjoy the game even more. 4:3 is no go anymore to me
It looks great! Really wish more 64 games were coming to the Switch.
That wait is going to feel so long! ;-;
oooh it looks really nice. Going to be great to finally play with dual analogue.
@Dr_Corndog Doom 64 is great. Brilliant custom maps and a slightly slower scarier feel. Doom on snes was just a terrible pc port.
I thought this was coming out in November?
Also @Sgt-Jack-V that's brilliant news! The turok remasters were really good. I hope they get hired to do more N64 ports
Presume it'll cost less than the Xbox and Sony versions then since it's being delayed?
Great news and Doom 64 looks very good especially since I can actually see what is happening. The original Doom 64, which I have, is just too dark even with the brightness turned all the way up. Sadly playing it on my N64 with the Super 64 HDMI connection does not help.
@carlos82 Sorry for the late reply. I just checked the US Eshop again and it's still there with a 22nd November release date. It didn't appear on there until well after we got the news about Doom Eternal's delay. However, that still doesn't guarantee it will actually release then. It may have been posted in error.
@OorWullie no worries somebody replied to a 2 year old comment on Pushsquare recently.
On this I'd imagine they probably just had it all set in motion to be added to the store as a preorder and presumably it'll just vanish at some point. I still don't know why they delayed this just to be a preorder bonus, most would be more than happy with the delay to ensure the game is ready.
