Smash 3 DS Art

Though it lacks the Tourneys that are coming to the home console iteration, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has one of the most substantial online setups available on the portable, with multiple modes and the ability to watch and bet on other matches. Due to the relative complexity of the game, its online moderation and the scope for players to find ways to take advantage of gaps in character design, it also represents one of Nintendo's biggest challenges in keeping the online section running well and fair for all players.

It's had another minor update — to version 1.03 — with those goals in mind, it seems. While it changes the Conquest feature so that it doesn't show the standings when the contest is running, it's also made suitably vague balancing changes to the gameplay; details below are from the official changelog.

The Conquest chart will no longer be displayed when Conquest Mode is active.

Adjustments have also been made to balance the game and make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

As this update also includes all changes from update 1.02, it comes in at a fairly meaty 762 blocks — that's on our UK unit, in any case. It's mandatory for online play, too, so you won't be able to hop onto online matches until you're all up to date — when you try and run the game it'll prompt you to jump onto the eShop.

Let us know whether you notice any changes to gameplay — particularly online — with this update.
