When the experience itself is designed around both there is going to be one that they put more effort into. Given their marketing is all first person, it’s clear that this is the targeted experience. Third person is nowhere as engaging and it’s a shame they just didn't go all-in on the style they've been going for since 7.
They blame the lack of newer titles releasing for a decrease in subs - which sure, definitely affected it. But I’d say it’s the actual value of the subscription. It’s still taking time to become what it should’ve been day one. Here’s to a more robust system come Switch 2!
Just started the game myself and I’m loving it! A perfect bite-sized ocean exploration experience with little challenge. It’s great for people who don’t have a lot of time or for little kids who are still learning the ropes of gaming. I think people expected too much for this… it’s what was shown at the beginning.
I think like any hobby things can consume someone’s life. Personally I agree with the sentiment that we all should spend more time outside. Does that mean I do that? Not as much as I should and I’m working on doing that more this year.
Yeah as everyone above is saying - I don’t agree with this point. These days consoles are transitioning more towards a service that is iterative (like a subscription but for consoles). Keeping that ecosystem is really important to the longevity of a system these days. PC, Xbox, Sony and heck all digital phones are designed to be replaced and keep all data and account information. If the next Nintendo console does not support the Switch line I honestly will be less engaged in it overall. I personally think Nintendo is invested in keeping the ecosystem as they have mentioned all their online services will be included and continue to be upgraded on the next system.
I hate to be that guy but honestly I never plan on getting any Pokémon DLC until they prove to me they are invested in making good titles. SV pushed the bar so low to the point I can’t see myself ever playing a Pokémon game again. This is crushing as I have always had a fondness for the series and have stuck through up until this point.
My first Zelda game was Four Swords 25th Anniversary Edition on my DSi XL and it would’ve been my last if my friend had not seen me playing it that New Years. On my birthday he gave me a copy of Hyrule Historia and the rest, as they say, is history (pun intended).
I’m getting the family plan so I don’t mind getting this 🤷♂️ Splits to around $13 for me so it’s not as much of an expense. That being said I made that choice as a result of the overpriced service. It’s totally valid people are upset but I’m happy with my solution.
I was waiting on KH3 for Switch. Just gonna buy it for $15 for PS4 to own a disc of it rather than a cloud service version… The effort Square Enix went to port Dragon Quest 11 for Switch was incredible. This effort is disappointing and kinda ruins my own excitement for Sora being in Smash.
No... they shouldn’t reconsider the joint model they’ve created. It’s been extremely successful for them and has joined two of their consumer markets together. Demand for this product is for a far more niche market. I expect it to sell well, but not in the millions.
Skyward Sword HD is a fantastic experience. I have been taking this game very slowly - enjoying the world building and all the character interactions in Skyloft. A fair few interesting stories occur between dungeons so it’s very satisfying to be rewarded with story moments.
@Dezzy Psychology. Sharing the same moment with someone (online or in person), we can feel a similar happiness with the ‘new’ feel. A lot of effort goes into box/case design to subconsciously make consumers crave the same feeling. Apple is best known for it with its iconic boxes and it adds to their reputation with dozens of unboxing videos hitting ‘Trending’ on YouTube regularly. An interesting thought - certainly has made me self-reflect! 😂
Bought this one happily. Found this one pretty enjoyable when I borrowed it on Wii. Never finished it, but I felt the game stood out as a celebration of the Zelda series as a whole.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi Yep - totally get that. Just thinking on a marketing end it won’t convey much difference to consumers. Nearly everyone I know could not care less about battery or screen compared to price point. That’s why I personally think they should justify price with spec differences as well. OLED is well worth it but to many it means nothing. Really excited for this personally but was hoping for a new chipset (Age of Calamity’s frame rate is an embarrassment ).
Wish they pitched this as a premium for gamers. Most consumers will pay for regular unit; so why the price change if it barely makes the standard unit look inferior? Strange marketing decision in my mind…
Nobody is pointing out there are no visible shrines or towers. Also the segments where ‘Link’ is in the sky, the Tabantha area has no visible Stable where it should be. This has led me to believe (combined with Bill Trinens note on the title) that we will go back 10 000 years ago to the era where the Sheikah were banished. We see Zonai ruins in the sky, but much less decayed - I feel this is another justification for the possible time mechanic inclusion. Going between old/current Hyrule will being that freshness I feel a lot of fans were looking for with the reuse of the map. Obviously this is all a theory, but I have looked in depth into many elements of the trailer - the whole concept of inversion being a repeated motif is important! The music and continuity of events in the trailers are played back and fourth and I feel this is all speaking into a broader thematic meaning. Time will tell - but tell me what you guys think!
It’s people’s opinion- so meh. I would’ve voted Nintendo but that’s because it’s my preference. In the case of something as subjective as this I am indifferent with reviewers final consensus.
@Yoshilapin I think you are reading into this too much - they are giving us a short ‘hype reel’ to get us on board but refraining largely due to Skyward Sword HDs release as it is the impending game. The focus should be on it as they don’t want to cannibalise any potential sales for Skyward Sword HD. This year isn’t over and BOTWs sequel will be featured in more events (they said they were giving ‘more information’ this year and I think that is still to be fulfilled).
Also have a sneaking suspicion that Skyward Sword HD will work it’s way into the game through narrative inclusion (for example, the robot featured in the trailer). I reckon the Loftwing amiibo will be functional in this game too; working similar to Wolf Link.
@Octane The continuity of the shots is all scrambled. The castle rising links with the end of the events of the previous trailer. I’m assuming this incites the islands being ‘revealed’.
Love how his likeness is used in Resident Evil 7 as one of the Sewer Gators! This is sad for me as I found his work with reviving the formula very important (in saying that, not discounting the countless others involved) - I liked his unique voice and perspective on the franchise in a time where it had grown a bit stale. Wishing all the best for him!
Gamefreak is putting a lot on the line already in making an unconventional in-house Pokémon game. I thinks it’s fair to say they will put game design at the forefront due to how different all the elements are. Visually, I expect what we’ve seen; but gameplay-wise I’m expecting quite a shakeup (and in mostly good ways).
Top 5: (No Specific Order)
1- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2- Resident Evil Remake
3- Tomb Raider 2
4- Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
5- Half Life 2
My theory is the size of the console won’t change - just the bezel being significantly thinner to accomodate the larger screen size. I personally love screens without bezels just for their high end look.
Something tells me there’s gonna be an announcement in a few day’s... reckon it’ll be Gameboy - which I personally don’t mind cause I prefer handheld games
@status-204 Yeah - I more mean I hope it least somewhat reflects the vision the devs had for the game visually (even if it isn’t as good as current platforms) cause there have been several current gen ports that haven’t achieved that.
@SpringLand I just wasn’t impressed with the overall performance (framerate) of the game. Dips way to low in many circumstances- but since they’ve patched it quite a bit my complaints are more towards the gameplay itself. In saying all of this, I have played all the Bethesda ports extensively because they are incredible given the hardware and the handheld play is generally fantastic!
I’m a bit worried about this port - much like the Wolfenstein Youngblood game they had nothing to show until it released and the result was pretty disappointing. Hopefully this game ends up looking great.
@able_to_think I mean sure but the development for Majora’s Mask was only one year (checked my Hyrule Historia book for that, it’s also in several other interviews).

Re: Next Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, 23rd September 2021
Expecting to see:
-Metroid Dread Trailer
-Bayonetta 3
-Zelda 35th (something)
-Resident Evil Outrage
-Resident Evil 2/3 Cloud
-More Pokémon Trailers (both games)
-N64/Gameboy Online Subscription
-A Wii U port (maybe Zelda/Xenoblade)
-Xenoblade 3
I feel like these are realistic to the current expectations from Nate the Hate and also my own guesses. We shall see!
