This week marks the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch. It's a game that was originally released during the Wii generation in 2011.
Of course, it's not just the game that's arrived this week. Nintendo has also released a special set of Skyward Sword-themed Joy-Con controllers and a Zelda & Loftwing amiibo that allows you to fast travel between the sky and the ground.
If you've not got your hands on any of these products yet, you might be interested in checking out this week's Nintendo Minute video. In it, Kit and Krysta unbox the game, amiibo and the new controller set. If you don't have time to watch it though, here are the highlights:
Nintendo Life video producer Jon Cartwright has also uploaded a demonstration of this same amiibo in action, and what it does in other games. Enjoy!
Did you pick up the Skyward Sword HD game, amiibo or Joy-Con controllers? Perhaps all of them? Tell us down in the comments.

I'm surprised at how easily I was able to get the Joy-Cons today. I was about to start work, I decided "Well Skyward Sword HD releases today, but I wonder if those Joy-Cons are still sold out." Last time I checked was when they were announced. So I hop online, I Google search "Zelda Joy-Cons," and to my surprise, Target had them, So I placed an order. I checked a few hours later, and they were all gone. I feel like I must have really lucked out...
@KayFiOS Cool story...
I'll never understand the weird fascination people have in watching things be "unboxed". Like why would that affect whether I'm gonna buy it or not?
@Dezzy Psychology. Sharing the same moment with someone (online or in person), we can feel a similar happiness with the ‘new’ feel. A lot of effort goes into box/case design to subconsciously make consumers crave the same feeling. Apple is best known for it with its iconic boxes and it adds to their reputation with dozens of unboxing videos hitting ‘Trending’ on YouTube regularly. An interesting thought - certainly has made me self-reflect! 😂
I picked it up. It’s a great game. Flawed, yes it is. But the simple fact of the matter is that all Zelda games are great. Although the controls are still a tad not up to par to today’s standards, they did fix it quite a bit. If you love Zelda, it’s a must purchase.
@KayFiOS I love it when things like that happen. I remember back in the day I wanted Mario Kart Wii but everywhere was sold out. I was in an HMV and asked them if they had it, they said no. I wandered around the store for a while and then the guy at the till came over to me and said they had just that moment had a delivery of Mario Kart Wii and did I still want it?! Good times 😀
It’s a great remaster. I remember I wasn’t that fond of the art style back in the day…because it looked a bit muddy. Now that I look at it in HD, it it’s gorgeous
The graphics have stood the test of time better than TP tbh
Skyward Sword HD is a fantastic experience. I have been taking this game very slowly - enjoying the world building and all the character interactions in Skyloft. A fair few interesting stories occur between dungeons so it’s very satisfying to be rewarded with story moments.
... and this shiny pair of joy-cons starts to drift in 1, 2, 3... xD
Me. Wantee. Dat. Amiibo.
@Dezzy Purely unboxing video's help to know what's inside the package.
Sometimes they also add a "first impression" to those video's which give some insight to the quality of the product.
And yeah, these video's are just very popular.
Don't really need those joy con... but damn, do I need those joy con. Easily the prettiest ones they've released in the past 4.5 years.
Got my amiibo yesterday and as I was putting a load of stuff in storage it went straight in storage with the rest of my Zelda amiibo. Under 12 hours from receipt to storage. I'll unbox in a few years. Maybe.
I wanted to see how the joy-con looks like in the system. It show any details or only the major color? Anyone else knows? Thanks
@Dezzy I’ll never understand the weird fascination people have critiquing other peoples harmless hobbies. Like why would that affect you or not?
Thanks to a weird online order mix-up, I'm getting the Amiibo well before the game itself. Maybe I can ooh and aah over the sculpting before I have a game to use it on?
@RCGamer hey, I got mine yesterday and was curious about that too! Unfortunately they just show up as purple and blue on the system graphic
Seems like the trend now is to just repackage something that already exist and then just charge more (Switch OLED, old games, everything).
If beige could talk.
Imagine a world where Nintendo made new games instead of selling 10 year old ones, the controllers could be used for more than a few months without breaking, and amiibo could be easily procured for 12.99. RIP 2015-2018. If you buy any of the stuff in this video you are getting ripped off and encouraging Nintendo's hostile and stagnant business strategies. Just sayin.
Only works if I get my Amiibo. At this point the Joy-Con seem will become standard release unlike the Amiibos. I think the Nintendo hopefully figured trying to limited the Joy-Con Zelda was a wasted effort.
@Thorthegreat12
Sure, but none of that is gonna change whether I want the actual game or not. I'm just gonna think 'cool, that's a nice looking case for a game I still don't want'
@Jacoby
I was hardly "critiquing" it. It doesn't affect me much. Although it does indirectly, because how people choose to spend their money affects how the market allocates resources, so I do have a minor interest in other people's spending behaviour.
Facebook market place is filled with Zelda Joy Cons and Loftwing amiibo's one dude had about 12 of each... Wish people wouldnt buy that crap at the mark up price... Maybe it would deter these hoarders....
Joy cons feel nice. Have a bit more of a tactile feel about them over my launch ones. Did require an update but look and feel great.
