Developer and publisher Frogwares has released a new video which showcases upcoming release The Sinking City running on Nintendo Switch.
Narrated throughout, the new video is actually refreshingly open with how it explains exactly what has been happening behind the scenes. Frogwares says that this isn't just a standard port, with various tricks being deployed to ensure a smooth experience and new features specific to the Switch version being added - such as gyro aiming.
The game's producer, Serge Chervonnyi, has also shared the following statement in a press release:
"We did our best to optimize the game and ensure it runs at a stable 30 frames throughout. We also improved combat a bit to have more weight and feel. Weapons now have new gunshot sounds, improved recoil and new visual effects. We also did our best to improve the game from people's feedback. So things like crowd behavior and pedestrian AI has been tweaked along with all around additional levels of polishing and bug fixing.”
We're still waiting on that all-important release date, but we're expecting to hear about it pretty soon (the developer tells us the date will be "sooner rather than later"). In the meantime, make sure to check out our recent interview with the studio about the game's imminent release on Switch.
Excited for this one? Planning on checking it out when it does arrive? Let us know in the comments.

Good to see this level of dedication. Anyway, can anyone tell that will there be a physical game as well, or digital only?
Hope they patch this stuff in the PS4 version, I did still enjoy the game. While they fixed the launch screen tearing, the game is still very glitchy, even on PC from what Ive seen. I still think their best recent work was Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments. Not sure the open world aspect really adds to their gameplay style.
I just watched the video, looks cool.
Bioshock is in my top 3 all time greatest games. For anyone who has played this on PS4/Xbox please tell me it’s similar 😉.
Also, I know a guy asked a couple posts above already but will there be a physical release?
Pretty good updates.
I would also love to get the game on a nice little cartridge, but at the end of this video they added a "Nintendo eShop" text under the game's title, so it looks like this could be download only
Still looking forward to playing the game, though.
@Ristar24 This being a relatively small publisher stretching beyond their comfort zone, I'm not expecting a smooth, perfectly tuned experience. Hopefully, they'll patch the most annoying bugs in all platforms and in time, they may release a second game where the open world element is more fleshed out.
Good on them for taking the time to optimize the game for the platform. Supporting multiple languages is also very nice.
@Kochambra I still really liked the game (and Frogwares games in general), I have 'day one' on PS4 which came with a really nice map of the city. I still think Crimes and Punishments is their more refined and focused work. Sherlock DD was moving towards action sequences which detracted from the core gameplay, and the shooting is for me the weakest part of Sinking City. Thankfully combat can be set to 'easy' independently of the detective elements, which I set to the most difficult.
Aside from the terrible racism of the original work I love Lovecraftian things so I’m really hoping this is reviewed well on the Switch.
So why can bloodstain do this as well.
Nice. Gyro controls and touchscreen functionality are both fantastic additions. I love how they just straight up go into detail how they optimized it for the Switch.
I'll definitely be getting the Switch version of this game.
This is definitely on my radar. I will most likely grab it at launch.
Looks fantastic.
Sounds like this might actually be the best version of the game to play. My games schedule is already packed full for the rest of the year, but I'll be keeping this one in my backlog.
i will most likely get this, although after the last few months i will not get day one purchases for switch ever again (looking at you, bloodstained and mutant year zero).
national retailer lists this as a physical release, so i was a bit irritated about the e-shop logo at the end of the trailer...
This stuff looks cool!
@DockEllisD This game just put Capcom to shame with Resident Evil 4's efforts on Switch.
This got my interest, im really curious how it will be.
The release date is the 8th of October. It’s already on the Australian eShop.
I don't usually do scary games, but this one looks a little closer to that Vampyre game which I didn't mind playing through.
Don't know much about this game but it looks cool!
Gyro support has me interested right off the bat. More devs take note!
@Sabrewing
Agreed. Now it's time for gamers to go ahead and support them and put their money where their mouth is. it's always easy to critique and moan about what you want on the system, companies not putting forth the effort or taking it and it's fans seriously enough to put in the work to optimize and everything else, but it's different when they do all that and then many of these same folks don't want to spend the money on it and support devs like these efforts. Waiting on extreme discounts where they don't get a lot of money back from all their hard work or even skipping the game and such. It's a two way street after all. And this is STILL about business.
Physical version please.
Ohhhh. This looks wild.
