i can't say i really understand that decision...doesn't seem to have an upside.
Granted, I don't buy games used or sell them back, so it won't really affect me. I hope that doesn't affect sales negatively, which in turn affects my ability to get online co-op buddies.
I can't talk about the one I really want to talk about, since it involves a topic we don't discuss here at NL.
I guess my earliest memory is Sonic 2 at my friend Kurt's house in 3rd grade. The entire second factory area was such a trip to play--fasted game I'd ever seen that wasn't SNES F-Zero (and fastest side-scroller by MIIIILES). Truly impressive--and he had a TV in his room, which made him way cooler than he actually was. Which wasn't very. He got all piereced and douche-scener-emo later on too
But yeah Sonic 2 was awesome back in the day and probably still remains my favorite game in the series.
Never played he 64 original, but was surprised how much better it looked than Mario Kart 64. Actual 3D for the characters helped a lot. For what it's worth, I didn't love the game but did find it leagues ahead of MK 64....not like that takes much effort
my favorite of the 6 NES games--mostly due to music. Fantastic game, and best of all the NES music soundtracks. Rock Man, Gyro Man, and Charge Man in the same game? Yes please
aw come on I was hoping they'd keep the VC releases on 3DS strong for a little while longer before they started throwing out trash releases Then again, it might be smarter for Nintendo to promotionally release VC games (e.g. release Metroid 2 once a new Metroid comes out, release 6 Golden Coins when Super Mario 3D comes out, etc.).
wow....out of everything, only Sonic X-treme seems to get the speed right, and they all look atrocious. Makes logical sense why they didn't get released.
sweet! New iterations of all the series we already expected. My world is blown
And yeah, at the risk of sounding like an echo:
-Price is way-ass high -Games, thus far, are laughably poor to almost decent (barring OoT which just happened) -Several of the selling point features not being ready for launch.
But hey--if you say it wasn't premature, it wasn't. What kind of a Nintendo fan would I be if I didn't believe you, unwavering, in every case?
Douchey, but spot-on. If the Wii U had been the Wii, maybe people would like/buy it..... As it stands, they're releasing the Nintendobox 360 w/ screentroller 5 years too late.
man i forgot about this game...played this on a friend's GC in highschool and it was awesome! Totally not my genre as well which made it even more impressive. It'd be like me playing a football (American) videogame and not wanting to rip of my hands and shove them into my eyes 3 minutes in. Not that Soccer (Yerpball) videogames are much better...
I just don't understand where his comments come from....A substantial proportion of people pay for in-game content. Normally the issue is that they have to set up some account or link Paypal or something else that takes extra effort--Nintendo already has a payment system in place.
Look at a game like World of Tanks. That company's cashing in hard right now, and of the 8 people I know that play, 5 of them have spent real money--1 has spent 40 bucks and plays it 5-6 hours a day and can' t get enough. Hell look at Facebook games--there's almost nothing to them at all except "hey friendslist--look at my town" and they make a mint--people will spent 200 dollars at once on a million in-game credit points to be "set for life". I know Iwata's not blind to AppData and other services that allow you to see how well these types of games do...that model with Nintendo's ingenuity could end up with some really cool products with no barrier of entry.
Again, not losing sleep over the lack of their inclusion in Nintendo's next generation...I just don't understand why he feels this way about these games/this model.
Granted if they turn out another Steel Diver, they'll have to charge 100 dollars to break even because no one will buy it.
right when Steam launches their free to play lineup too....Nintendo--it's not all about you. There are a lot of successful free to play model games out there, and not allowing for them to exist is kind of shooting yourself in the foot. At least let other companies release them...
woooow. Totally never heard about this--what a pleasant surprise! I wasn't ever able to play this one due to not knowing anyone with a Gameboy Advance, much less Link to the Past.
nintendo really doesn't do a terrible job of catering to so-called core gamers...i just feel the other two do a slightly better job.wii u's capabilities seem able to change that....sadly it seems like a bit of a redundant purchase for me. We'll see as time goes on/games are announced.
i'd have to echo the "it's good cause it's free" comment. This game for 6 bucks is just robbery. Not that there's anything wrong with it...compared to Link's Awakening for 6 bucks though, the content comes up appallingly short.
i found this game a lot more fun than wipeout or mario kart...mostly cause attacking each other gets in the way of what i want to be doing--racing quickly with precision. F-Zero was just straight-up, difficult, insanely fast racing, and I wanna say I'd crossed the 200 hour mark by the time I beat Deathborn's story on Ch8 on Very Hard (after memorizing how to hit all the bombs on my first lap to gain speed).
This game isn't quite as technical as something like F-Zero, but the way they do the challenge is really cool. I personally liked the fact that I wasn't able to get above 3rd place the first time through the different track sets--on the easiest difficulty the first time!
A few weird issues, such as the wily variability of where you'll respawn when you fall off--sometimes you'll actually gain a bit of speed, other times you will drop from 1st to distant 8th. Still it's awesome...first Wiiware game in forever, and quite happy about it.
Nintendo - take a page out of Sony's book. Notice how Apple's distribution platform is infinitely better than yours? Copy it a bit! Freemium-model games are huge now, and e-shop has no way of taking advantage of this type of business model. You guys innovate enough on the input/gameplay side of things...I for one wouldn't lose any respect for you for taking a bit of inspiration from Apple's success.
Also--use the system you can use in the photo application that allows you to shrink tile size and increase the number per page. That would make browsing games a ton easier (or just use plain-old smaller tiles )
@nasachi - Uncharted series, Resistance series, Ratchet and Clank Series, Heavy Rain, God of War, and plenty of others I can't come up with after being awake 25 straight hours would like a word with you.
In fact...come to think of it, this is arguably the strongest core generation for Sony....and the weakest for Nintendo. If it wouldn't have been for Mario Galaxy (and kind of New Super Mario Bros. Wii) it wouldn't even be a contest.
2 joysticks on NGP = happy murd. FPS/TPS/games-requiring-camera-adjustment playability ftw. Still don't see how the 3DS is gonna handle this little issue....gyro is unwieldy and terrible for that kind of thing and using stylus to drag eliminates any use of right-handed buttons.
Then again I'm sure the vehemently pro-Nintendo will find some way to argue that precise camera control is a negative
@MechaPhoenix - thank you for that comment. Good to get a nice, ironic dose of realism for a change on the comments section of an article like this.
He doesn't say anything about the NGP not being an upgraded PSP. He's simply refuting Nintendo's claim that the 3DS is some brand new mind-blowing entity....it's a DS with a 3d screen, a different stylus, less battery life, and an analog stick for double the price. Granted, it's much easier to take Nintendo's side blindly and call him an idiot, so go ahead and do that.
Personally I'm getting kind of sick of these Sony-fodder articles....entirely too Gamespot-like. Although it might be more due to the sheep reading them...
eeeeh....4 bucks for mario land is a bit tough to swallow....will prob get anyway to have a gb game on my 3ds, but 2.99 for all gb titles would've made me much happier. Hopefully they won't go too far past 4.99 for gbc.
alright...so no disloyalty or lack of love for retro...but that told me absolutely nothing. I think he picked all his quotes directly from the dictionary-definition of vague.
@rosebud - that review wasn't nearly as in-depth and, rather than explaining the game mechanics at all, simply said they weren't good. Granted, after reading both reviews/watching a video, I can't say I'm dead-set on agreeing with a 9/10 review, but at least there are listed reasons that support said 9/10 in the review.
F-Zero X? Wat? GX was so far the superior game I've all but forgotten X existed (except for the Deathrace mode )
I actually just did a little research on Firebrand and they seem like a pretty alright studio. Granted--F-Zero is pretty sacred to me and barring some type of Retro-style 3rd-party development situation, I'm reluctant to allow a non-super-established company to tinker with the franchise. Still--as long as somebody makes a new one--and preferably for 3DS

Re: Review: Stratego: Next Edition (DSiWare)
hell yeah this is a great board game. Might actually grab this for 3DS--would be nice to have.
Is there a hotseat multiplayer option? Or only download play?

The Dark Brotherhood is one of the worst RPGs I've ever played in my entire life.

give us the god-awful gamegear sega games on eshop tomrorow!!!!
....oh wait. Don't do that.
Happy B-day Sonic. If you could coerce Bioware into refunding my money for that atrocious DS RPG they made with your namesake, I'd be much obliged.
Re: Square Enix Pondering Dragon Quest X for Wii and Wii U

@Birdman13 - use a more obscure acyonym, please. That one's way too relate-able.
This looks average.
Re: Fils-Aime: "3DS Didn't Launch Prematurely"
@kk - very true. Come to think of it, there are way more premature launches than mature launches.

Oh Miyamoto! You're hilaaarious!
(His jokes are so terribly corny, but he's so intense and positive when delivering them that you can't help but laugh along with him)
Re: Review: Donkey Kong (Game Boy)
one of the many reasons I liked Mario Vs. Donkey Kong (for GBA) so much. This is an absolutely stellar game, handheld or otherwise.

my vote is total washout.
Re: Nintendo Taking "Massive Leap" with Wii U's Online Set-Up
i'll believe it when i see it. 3DS's crappy low framerate barebones eshop and that "browser" do not give me much confidence.
