amazing game in an amazing series. The more Castlevania-themed articles, the merrier imo. Doing another run of CV Rebirth, Classic Control, on Hard mode in honor of last year's run. This year? 3 lives intead of 9
@slap - dude. it's preserved in solid rock. Of course it'll last forever. Granted--the fact that said rocks insta-shatter the second your whip even touches them gives me cause for concern...
worst thing about this no-frills so far is for stuff like metroid. That game's such a pain to password-continue, so I tend to either play through the entire thing in one sitting or avoid it.
Also, we have all these games with "2 player" option...that isn't usable on 3DS. That's kinda frustrating....granted, a lot of work would've needed to be done to make online play work...but that work would've been really nice. Even an option to have player 1 and 2 controls mapped to the same buttons so trade-off 2-player games (Super Mario Bros. for example) could be played on one unit would've been nice.
there's a part of me that's kinda surprised by this...DQ has always migrated to the console that's the best selling/will sell the most copies. Given the numbers, it makes sense for them to bring a traditional DQ game to the Wii. If it's online-centered though, the decision is more confusing. Wouldn't more PS3-owners (who virtually all have reliable internet connections/more interest in this game type, I'd assume) be interested in this type of DQ game, regardless of the size of the console's install base? I dunno....after reading all these comments, it seems like a weird choice to bring it to Wii...
No one else is excited? I'm actually pretty pumped...I was hoping IX would be online but this totally works. I'll be getting the regular ol' Wii version, assuming it doesn't get all FF XIV crucified reviews/impressions-side. Normally I'll give any game a shot, but those scared me away from even considering it.
I'm on board. Haven't been steered wrong with a DQ game yet.
metroid down in just over an hour One of my faster victories...skipped some stuff, including the Varia Suit (that bomb-jump can take forever if you're unlucky) but got her done w/ 5 tanks
Such a great creation of a genre. Zelda/Zelda 2--you're next. Now to work for the next 28 straight hours... /groan
one of my favorite games of all time. I will buy this the day it comes out, despite owning it twice already (Megaman X Collection and the SNES cart). Too damn good--best music, best bosses, best Megaman X game.
this visual style is weeeird. In a good way...kinda....I dunno I'm undecided but really, really interested. Don't remember the last time my eyes were this conflicted.
That suuucks. My favorite thing about GC controller functionality was that it allowed my X-arcade to hook up to the Wii. Playing VC games with that thing is a blast...granted--not gonna affect me at all, but it's sad to see the controller ports gone for new buyers (esp. for stuff like Smash Bros. Brawl...how's anyone gonna play it w/o one?)
spent almost an hour trying to get out of the trap when i bombed into the vertical chamber after the one that gives you the ice beam. I was 5 I think...the satisfaction of actually getting out and continuing to play was immense.
@Kid A - Almost agree with you about Zero Mission...my biggest problem is, barring a couple spots of creative sequence breaking (such as the early Norfair entrance break), it's really linear and guided compared to Super Metroid. They also nerfed the Speed Booster a bit...it was 98% amazing in my book though. Also can't say I'd put Prime 3 above Super given how boring it got at the halfway point. Massive, empty rooms all over the place. Almost didn't finish it. To each his own though
( 6/10 means slightly above average. This game is exactly that--better than average. I dunno when the world got so skewed in the overly-positive-review-scores direction....)
...eh. It'll be overpriced, short, will look like a Super NES game and will play like a really good Super NES game. Waiting for reviews...and looking at a lot of them. Not ever letting a Mighty Flip Champs happen to my handheld again.
You guys remember that companies exist to make money, right? The reason Gameloft takes this approach is that it lets them spam a really high volume of games, and thanks to consumer idiocy, people keep buying them.
Keep doing your thing Gameloft. A few of your games are actually pretty fun and you're making a killing. People with bad taste deserve to be taken advantage of.
And yeah Zach...wireless multiplayer being superior to hot-seat on a take-turns golf game when virtually no one on earth owns a 3DS yet? Come on man...there's no rationalizing that one. Hot seat wins, hands down. All take-turns games should feature a hot-seat option, period.
I could see myself getting this at some point. Not a bad offering for the first 3DSWare game. 7 dollars for mostly full-featured golf game vs. 6 dollars for..../shudder...Xevious. Hmmmmmmmmm...
soo great. Well-played, Nintendo. I was worried Vita was gonna completely trample you this time around. As always--handhelds aren't the moneymakers. The games are. Get out a ton of these things early and push your software.
20 games from what already appears to be a great selection completely satiates me. No ill will about the price drop anymore.
oh no! un-erasable save data.....in a....pac-man game.
eat that, used game buyers.
thanks for driving up the price of games game companies make almost as much money from you guys as they do from piracy...this stuff's been a long time coming.
i was kind of thinking this same thing when it was announced...Barely anyone played Legends (compared to other megaman-related games) and I was wondering when Capcom had decided that people magically started liking the series again. I guess I found my answer.
@Gabe - agreed. You buy a 360 or a PS3 for all your games. You buy a Nintendo console for the first-party games. Been that way ever since N64, and honestly I think the Wii made the gap even wider.
I'm getting to the point where I think I might just revert back to PC gaming again... So much more affordable, better-connected, and usable. And Steam. Steam > restoftheworld.
Where the nuts does Durkin get that statement from though? Granted--Halo and Gears of War are phenomenal sellers and pretty solid games....but that's only two series. I guess Forza could be included too. Where are the rest of the amazing first-party titles though? And what does that even mean--MS doesn't develop games. Bungie did Halo and Epic does Gears....Nintendo's the only of the three that's actually pumping out games in-house. If he'd said exclusives, he'd still be wrong (Nintendo has around a dozen, and Sony has at least 8 that I can come up with off the top of my head), but at least it would seem like he knew what he was talking about.
man i put like 110 in I think and had a pretty good chunk of content found. Still--I imagine getting all those recipes took hundreds by itself, esp. if he wasn't walkthrough-ing/FAQ-ing everything and had to figure out efficient ways to farm items himself.
man this game sucked There was a slight lag when using the bongos which completely ruined it for me and the song selection was really limited and terrible. Scroll from right to left was also terrible. Interface wasn't good.
Not a lot went right with this game, imo. 8/10 is beyond kind.
not exactly mind blowing (crap graphics) but it's great to see this series return. Probably pretty early on in development too...at least I hope so. Whatever--at least it's an original sidescroller that isn't also available for free.
awww and it was cheap and looked good . Why games don't also offer the classic/wiimote and chuck/GC controller methods of control is always a mystery to me....
@accc - I disagree. When playing with a gamecube controller, I won virtually every game (race, not battle) I played--against people that played MK constantly and were using wheel. It's a fun gimmick, and it's the best use of tilt to steer, but the precision of an analog stick in the right hands trumps it universally.
Pins? Really? It's like Nintendo wants me to drop them like a bad habit or something.... 12 retail titles worth of Wii games registered.....and I get tiny pins. At least the calendar has some utility....what the hell Nintendo? This is definitely the last year I take club Nintendo at all seriously...
while the majority might not dig these kind of games (hence Nintendo's decision), 2 of these 3 were the last games I intended to buy for the system. Now all I have left to do is wait around for Skyward Sword and for DKC returns to get cheaper.
if i were the type of person that had the free time to play a game start to finish twice and get all the unlocks multiple times, maybe this would affect me. As it stands, once will be more than enough.
i just don't know who these core gamers are who haven't already bought a 360 or a ps3.... Releasing a giant controller with crappy-looking sticks doesn't erase 6 years of bad will either.
I like how there's a massive market in the PC community that buys accounts for games so they don't have to level...granted, having the option would be nice, but I'm guessing there are some gamers out there that wouldn't mind buying a game with a bunch of stuff unlocked already.
I'm not one of them...but then again, I buy new in 95% of cases.
that's weird.... Wouldn't that only affect used games? I was under the impression Gamestop only let users return used games in 7 days, not new games.....if so, that policy seems ripe for piracy. Gamestop is essentially free 7-day Blockbuster? Looks like I found a use for Gamestop again.

Fair and balanced. Gotta be nice when they give you a review of a game they expect to be bad that isn't bad.

All 3 Castlevanias
Both Contras
All 4 Dragon Quests
Life Force/Salamander
that's be ideal. Hundreds of hours of gameplay, amazing run and guns, friggin' castlevania, and my favorite NES shoot em up.

i'm sensing a pattern here....
Wii plays GC games! Now you can play all your old games!
DS plays GBA games! Now you can play all your old games.
/discontinue previous generation of backwards compatibility, charge too much for digital versions, advertise as a selling point on new consoles.
Not a huge fan tbh. But at least they didn't start w/ backwards compatibility and then remove it (hi PS3! ) or anyth--oh wait. DSi. nm.
Re: First Impressions: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
never been a huge fan of digital aim in these types of games. Sadly this is looking like a pass barring second-coming-of-christ reviews.
