Re: Mario Kart Without Items Isn't Mario Kart, That Includes the Blue Shell

SwerdMurd

i don't see how racing perfectly then getting boned at the very end by a blue shell makes any game more fun to play, but that's just me. The eighth-place player using the blue shell isn't gonna finish well anyway...he's just gonna ruin the decent player's day.

One of many reasons this series does nothing for me. Shelve the stupid 3DS Mario Kart and release F-Zero. Way better fit for 3DS anyway--and it's actually challenging for legitimate reasons! /shock

At least give us a Smash Bros.-style item enable/disable screen so we can turn off the garbage if we want.

ok....so....what nationality is he exactly? It's not racist to ask that question, is it? I'm genuinely curious...cannot place him. The last name is french I'd assume....but the fro is decidedly not.

Re: Iwata Hits Out at Smartphone and Social Network Game Developers

SwerdMurd

oh Iwata....way to alienate the current largest gaming demographic with poorly-chosen words.

Whether they're right or not is of no consequence. There were good games on every system--Atari Jaguar even had a couple decent titles. Personally this is the first Nintendo generation where I feel they've fallen way more on the side of quantity vs. quality anyway--I don't think it's fair to jab quite so forcefully at Apple just because they created an incredibly low-maintenance business model that prints them cash. People like me who think touch screen input is mostly garbage will keep buying games on platforms that suit us. Making people on the other side feel in any way wrong about their choice of gaming, however, is stupid plain and simple.

Personally I think he should've ripped more on Apple's vice-like grip over what their consumers can actually use their devices for than trying to rip on one of the few outlets for truly new, non-cookie-cutter content. The worst thing about Apple anything has always, and will always be dealing with Apple. Leave the low-budget devs that are finally getting a chance to shine alone, even if they make simply-aimed games.

Re: Dream Trigger 3D Brings Retro Shooting to 3DS

SwerdMurd

kinda ugly...

it's hard to concoct a gameplay video that shows less about how the actual game works than that one. I might as well have looked at 6 fuzzy screenshots.

Still D3 has published a few games I've really enjoyed. Dark Sector (PS3/360) was a ton of fun imo. I'll keep my eyes open--but games like this do not warrant 40 dollar price tags anymore.

Re: New Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars Trailer Stealths In

SwerdMurd

Man I was dead-set on bashing this game (I already have actually) but after seeing it in action I feel the need to eat my words. Looks quite nice...dunno how much the 3d effect will really matter but hell--out of a fecal launch lineup this looks surprisingly buyable.

Re: Cast Envious Eyes at Japanese Gamers Buying their 3DS Today

/skaol

In all seriousness--that's awesome and I hope you guys have fun with it. Can't wait to finally hear some un-exec, un-shellshock-of-expo reactions with some decent play lengths. In specific I have my eyes on hand-cramping/issues since that's been my cardinal issue with DSi (and PSP for that matter)

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 up for BAFTA Game of the Year

SwerdMurd

...mass effect 2, heavy rain, or red dead. I kinda hope heavy rain wins since it's the only original IP in the list...and limbo...meh....and i'm offended by dance central's inclusion. but yeah--can't in good faith vote for smg2...didn't do much for me.

Re: Hudson Entertainment Closes its Doors, Cancels its Projects

SwerdMurd

It's sad but I'd be lying if I found it even remotely shocking....they just don't resonate with the current generation of gamers at all, and none of their attempts at new IPs/ideas have brought them much money or notariety.

I've still always had this feeling that Faxanadu was magically gonna resurrect though...time to finally shelve that desire

Re: Club Nintendo NA has a Ball with New Prizes

SwerdMurd

well on the bright side it gives me something to do with my points i guess....on the not-as-bright side, i'll be bored with it in one minute and it's horribly overpriced, especially considering the fact that japan got that as their platinum reward....only needing to accumulate 600 coins then getting it free seems a wee bit better than paying 1200 coins....

Of course some blind Nintendo loyalist is gonna say the whole "See every time Nintendo offers something new, everyone still complains!" thing. It's comments like that which allows Nintendo to feel their highway robbery is validated.

Re: Reggie Defends High Download, Retail Price Point

SwerdMurd

@drdark - well-said for the most part, but try to be more concise when commenting on an article. Walls of text give most people the urge to skip right past it (although you did at least divide into paragraphs which gets you bonus points)

Also, given your point about a much more tightly-controlled submission process, I think Nintendo's really the only entity to blame for all the shovelware making it onto the service. Apple barely has a chance to look at apps given their submission volume, while Nintendo finds a way to look at/reject games 3 times, then call them finished and allow them on despite still being buggy and incomplete. If they were less interested in collecting astronomical licensing fees and more interested in monitoring for content, I think the DSiWare (and WiiWare) releases would look quite different. The difference with Nintendo is you have to spend more up-front and it takes longer....this doesn't cut out the shovelware, it just means that only the wealthier shovelware-making companies get noticed.

Re: Reggie Defends High Download, Retail Price Point

SwerdMurd

I suppose my comment about getting games for good prices may have been misleading...I hope the world realizes that any assumption that all games should be 99 cents on the App store is quite frankly offensive to developers. I'm merely stating that many games normally priced at $5.00 that I've bought for 99 cents haven't had any staying power. In particular, most of my earlier-on Gameloft stuff ended up that way. I've also bought a few FPSes that, while not necessarily bad or low-budget in any way, just don't provide a fun enough or tightly-controlled enough experience to really be fun to spend time playing.

I had a lot of fun with Dark Void on DSiWare, I've gotten zounds of mileage out of Rytmik, and Pop Island has gotten a few plays with the DS-owning crew. In Dark Void's case, the cheaper price on iPhone accompanies considerably less precise controls, and thus is (in my opinion) a better buy on DSi.

Re: Review: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS)

SwerdMurd

sounds like a generic, serviceable, unremarkable a-rpg. I have enough of those.

I dunno if anything will ever convince me to give this series a shot...it just looks so ordinary (plus the Disney thing does nothing for me)

Re: Reggie Defends High Download, Retail Price Point

SwerdMurd

I feel you Reggie. I have a metric ton of "omg amazing deals" games on iPhone...I play literally none of them today. I have 3 pages of games and I don't remember the last time I actually wanted to play one.

@dr - i will never understand why enslaved sold poorly...it had a lot of really solid mechanics--nothing was perfect, but it was crazy-enjoyable.

Re: Japan Getting Online Multiplayer for a Virtual Console Title

SwerdMurd

I hope everyone realizes that these online-enabled features tend not to work very well....both the 360 and PS3 versions of Gunstar Heroes (and a lot of other VC-style games for both services) feature online co-op....sadly, the non-host tends to get about a 1/3 second (literally) control lag, making any game completely unplayable...I just don't see this going away considering the Wii's weaker online architecture

Re: First Impressions: 3DS Operating System and Built-In Software

SwerdMurd

That's great to hear that the net browser specifically is multi-task friendly. I've always wondered why this entire generation missed that capability...I'd actually get some use out of the PS3 browser if this function existed on it--as it stands my iphone tends to be my walkthrough/game info-if-needed browser.

Good game Nintendo. That was great to hear.
