Re: First Super Monkey Ball 3DS Trailer is Bananas

SwerdMurd

(it doesn't look as good as banana blitz because the 3DS isn't as powerful as the Wii)

@5 - clearly stated by someone who's never played the series. These games are probably a lot more difficult than whatever makes your arbitrary "hardcore" definition...I still to this day can't get much further than Stage 30 reliably on Super Monkey Ball 2's Hard mode (with 2 lives)...the stage layouts are really tough later on in most cases.

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops (DS)

SwerdMurd

Good stuff Jon.

All these games have been surprisingly decent for DS...everytime I've expected a super watered down/lackluster port and I've been greeted with a stellar DS FPS that pushes the genre forward on the console. DS COD games truly set the bar...not that many others attempt to dethrone them.

Re: If You Want Virtual Boy Games on 3DS, Speak Up

SwerdMurd

Why? Because you have a scenario with a good 20-50 already-developed games you could sell for money.

Your new handheld is gonna be able to display in 3D, and to my knowledge, outside a handful of random assorted games, this is the only legacy content available that makes any attempt to make use of the 3rd dimension in terms of display.

This would also be the only way to experience this content as intended, short of using an emulator and 3D glasses. Assuming the price was right (remember--these games were cheap when they came out--price accordingly) I think it'd give people a chance to play the best Wario game available, a great Star Soldier game, etc.

From a business standpoint, I see it costing very little and providing a constant 100% profit revenue source.

Re: Reggie Wonders Where Metroid: Other M Sales Went Wrong

SwerdMurd

(because it's not that good)

(because the combat is mind-numbing)

(because too many liberties were taken with the formula and the result felt like ninja gaiden without a battle system and missile tanks)

(because Metroid doesn't have the die-hard following that Zelda/Mario/all those other Nintendo IPs have and simply releasing a title with the word "Metroid" in the title doesn't guarantee a million sales)

take your pick reggie reg.

Re: Review: Rytmik: Rock Edition (DSiWare)

SwerdMurd

nice....if i get any point this holiday season, this is where (some of them) are going. Can't justify 8 bucks just yet (plus it's not out here yet ) since I have the first and that scratches the itch, but yeah--excited.

Re: If Donkey Kong Country Returns is Too Hard, Use Super Guide

SwerdMurd

If you don't die a lot, it isn't an issue...if you do, you can skip it or save yourself spending the time to go look up a youtube video or walkthrough. I never actually figured out how to activate it on NSMBWii, but I watched a youtube video of one and they were really basic walk-through-level situations--none of them spoiled nifty secrets or anything but were simply functional ways to get through the levels.

But yeah...no one's forcing anything on you--this just saves you a step if you're the type that cheats your way through tough spots.

Re: Rumour: House of the Dead: Overkill Sequel on the Way

SwerdMurd

woohoo! Overkill was fun, it just didn't have enough difficulty. Add a difficulty option that really toughens the game up and I'll pay 50....make it like the last one and I'll wait til it's cheap (but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it)

@TheChosen - lol I forgot about that....Mental note--if Sega makes a whiny comment, disregard it.

Re: Six Capcom Arcade Classics Launching on VC this Winter

SwerdMurd

SON SON! Exed Exes! Black Tiger!!

WOW! So glad it's not just Streetfighter 2 and Final Fight and all the predictable ones....these releases I can get behind.

1942, Commando, and GnG are all on iPhone already on their Capcom Arcade app...one of many things that makes me wish iPhone games were actually able to be controlled, cause it's a great idea for an app/system (free app, 3 "coins" per day, extra coin packs can be bought or individual arcade machines can be unlocked for free play)

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th November 2010 (North America)

SwerdMurd

@Waveboy - yeah bloodlines kinda sucks...you're not missing much. Decap attack is kind of a muddy-physics-ed mess too and the music is grating...1600 points could be better spent imo--not missing much there.

more useless DSiWare apps...can't say I'm surprised as people eat this kind of trash up on iPhone. Mix Superstar looks kinda interesting despite being super limited-scope/functionality...wouldn't mind seeing it in motion.

Re: Gothic Action Heads to WiiWare in Ark of Sinners

SwerdMurd

combos are always where these games fall apart...side-scrolling games don't need chained-together combos....these games are all about constant, precise character control. One of the many things that made Soul of Darkness feel like a moldy bag of feces was the emphasis on remove-player-control combos and inexact control....this article did nothing to convince me this game will be any different.

If you're gonna copy Castlevania, copy the fact that its attacks are precise and well-balanced and not 5 chained-together moves that launch you all over the stage.

EDIT - it appears it's not entirely sidescrolling...or it's 2.5D.... 10 bucks says it's clunky as hell and animation down-time is the number one cause of getting hit/dying.

Re: Super Meat Boy May Skip WiiWare and Head to Retail

SwerdMurd

@Team Meat - this isn't exactly the most representative of samples as I'm sure you know...

That said, I'd buy it. I prefer disc-based since I can take it to a friend's house--assuming all content from the downloadable versions on other consoles is there, I can't see it being a problem. Including the level editor/some sharing mechanic via WFC would be an amazing way to guarantee my purchase as well...although that might be a pain given Nintendo's online shortcomings...

Re: Super Meat Boy Will Miss November Launch Window

SwerdMurd

never heard about this filesize limit being an issue before!!

Nintend--next time around, please be a bit more future-proof with your design.

@Bulb - games must be under 40mb. SD support doesn't expand on that or matter since it really just swaps that game from SD memory into regular console memory. The only way it can go beyond 40mb is with DLC expansions.

Re: Review: Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

SwerdMurd

Lol I own this game--got it for 99 cents. Not sure why the "worse than anything the Genesis has to offer" comment is there, as I felt between the two, SNES still had more to offer in the genre...granted, PC-Engine was the way to go for those needs (or straight to Arcade), but Thunder Force 4 and maybe MUSHA (depending on what day of the week it is) were the only two notable ones in that list imo...

Good review regardless--an average game I like simply cause it was so cheap!

Zero Wing and Truxton are both just terrible, though. Please remove them from print and hopefully from memory

Re: Last Flight Gameplay Footage Lands at Long Last

SwerdMurd

True Blood is softcore porn. It belongs with the other Cinemax trash, not considered among real television programming. If one more person tries to tell me "it's as good as The Wire" someone's getting murdered.

Game looks average--no thank you. I forsee 20-30 minutes of semi-entertainment, followed by never touching it again. Then again, it is Wiiware...

Re: Review: Fester's Quest (NES)

SwerdMurd

@jkg - virtually every sentence denotes a clear understanding of the game...he just really, really didn't like it (which he's well within his right to do--I can can totally see a nostalgia-free review of this game earning a 1--and this one is plenty justified) and defended why.

If I read this review and the score was 7/10 and the text was the same, I'd question the reviewers sanity...so yeah--1/10 is a perfect score for this review. Low score doesn't equal AVGN....I don't recall random unrelated streams of cussing and bashing the game simply because the reviewer wasn't good at utilizing the game mechanics.

Re: Telltale's Back to the Future Not Coming to Wii

SwerdMurd

not an isolated event, sadly.

Telltale--I hope the game makes plenty on other platforms. I can't say I blame you for not supporting the Wii's downloadable game service--it's tough to break even/make money on it, especially with games like this.

Re: Features: NES Homebrew Is Where The Heart Is

SwerdMurd

I wish there were a way outside of actually buying the NES cart to play Battle Kid...my NES has a broken part and I can't play it Game looks awesome...but alas, looks like I can't supports Suzak

Retro City I'm not quite as interested in, but I still wanna see how it turns out.
