Re: Ludosity's Ittle Dew Was Pitched to Nintendo as a Zelda Game

It gives the the feeling it might be a decent enough Zelda clone for a few minutes... and then you notice the combat collision boxes, and the horribly-used warping, and the pacing of the first dungeon... And then you're glad you didn't pay for it yet. Cool constantly-animated visual style, but just doesn't work.

Re: Review: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Nintendo 64)

completely agree. I thought I liked this game, but I played it at my brother's a few months ago and it was horrid. At least Goldeneye had decent presentation value, even if it featured similarly crap-worthy controls. Turok is just plain ol' rough.

Re: Soapbox: Mobile And Tablet Gaming Is Creating A Generation Of Talentless Players

it's a different beast. The challenge has always varied pretty considerably depending on game type as well.

These new games are games in name only. They're clever ways to allow people to engage with one another, while encouraging people to spend money on ways to improve or personalize their experience. Comparing them to Megaman is a waste of time... Idk, social games are precisely that - they're chat rooms w/ an assortment of tasks to complete and built-in "show off" trophycase-typed things. I think the issue people take is that they're called games, rather than entertainment products or something similar.

no effort to tune up dodge mechanic = auto-pass. If the mechanic doesn't work, don't include it (and plan the game around the mechanic not existing). Dodge ruined the game for me - only made it about 40% of the way through.

Re: Review: Mega Man (Wii U eShop / NES)

SwerdMurd

none of the NES ones are nearly as challenging as I remember... I didn't realize how insane the hard difficulty modes of megaman 9 and 10 are compared to...every other entry in the series.

1 has the most bizarre spikes in difficulty for sure, and is also one of the harder games to beat w/o using any robot master subweapons

Re: Review: Mega Man 4 (NES)

SwerdMurd

if you play it without using the charge-up, it's actually one of the hardest in the series. Also the first NES series game I played... Rented this shortly after getting Megaman X on SNES (which was my intro to the entire series).

I agree Urban - much better than 6. Not that 6 is terrible.... But 7 and 8 both did unique, awesome things with the series, and 9 and 10 were infinitely more solid classic-style MM games. I still play 10 often.

Re: Interview: Marc Franklin - Nintendo of America

SwerdMurd

that was a pretty forthright interview by a PR guy. Well said too - the point about Fire Emblem's digital sales were really interesting to me.

1) Is the DLC what's driving users to purchase it digitally?
2) Is it just cause it's a huge game - and the core 3DS users, who are probably all connected, were interested enough to get it?
3) Is if the fact that the game is really long?

And on that topic, it gets me thinking about Etrian Odyssey IV digital. It's a really long game as well... BUT no DLC support.... BUUUUUT it had a crazy-limited physical release.

Oh adult world...what have you done to me?

Re: Nintendo Of America Rep Insists That Lost Digital Content "Not Covered For Replacement"

SwerdMurd

oh Nintendo.... Why must you be the last guy on the team? Literally every other device on the market w/ access to digital content gives permanent access to purchased content - normally on as many devices as can access it. In the 2 years I haven't bought any digital content from Nintendo, I've bought a cornucopia of Steam games, PSN games, iOS game / IAPs, and have said content on 3 or more devices. They're doing it cause the content is so legacy-style / exclusive that gamers will just suck it up and pay again. Gamers - please stop rebuying.
