Re: Soapbox: EA’s Approach To FIFA On Switch Is Typically Short-Sighted

SuperKMx

@Razer I've deleted my posts as this is just pointless. I'm sure you'll take that as a win and feel good for the day.

The best thing about this conversation was that I didn't actually say anything in support of EA other than "maybe don't wish 9000 people out of a job" and "if EA dies, another 100 companies will step in who are just as bad" but you're so blinded by hatred for the company that you just can't see any reasoning at all.

Plus, given your position on the matter, I'd assume that you'd understand how much of an insulting attack "you work for EA" is.

(Also, there's an edit button so that you don't have to multi-post when your brain spits out some other nonsense to fire at me ten seconds after the last one.)

Have a good day.

Re: Soapbox: EA’s Approach To FIFA On Switch Is Typically Short-Sighted

SuperKMx

@Razer Only, that isn't remotely true.

Last month, EA announced their digital revenues were up 5% YOY to $3.722b. Heck, they got 35% more players to play THE SIMS 4 in FY19 compared to the previous year, and that game was released in 2014. 45 million players played FIFA last year. They also launched Apex Legends this year, which made them $150m+ from a development cost of what seems to be about a tenner. Their share price recovered after the Battlefront II crash to over $100 in February and remains at $97 or so.

So, I ask you, in what world is your dream scenario of 9,000 people being put out of work because of the actions and decisions of 10 or 12 of them a reality, please?

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

SuperKMx

For the record, Xbox's cloud save system is free and supports every game. There's no requirement to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

As for including "smartphone app" as a plus point for Switch Online, that's a huge reach. The smartphone app is a negative, if anything, because it shouldn't be required. Xbox and PlayStation don't need an app in order to provide the services you'd expect when gaming online, such as basic voice chat or party messaging. Even still, Microsoft and Sony both provide one all the same, and neither require a subscription to Gold or Plus.

Microsoft also allows "family" sharing of Gold subscriptions (and digital libraries) with much the same limitations as Nintendo has.

No disrespect, but this article is essentially what it looks like when someone is kidding themselves.

Re: Near-Identical Fake Switch Pro Controllers Are Now On The Market

SuperKMx

@MaSSiVeRiCaN In the UK, the lowest price on a Switch Pro Controller is £54.99 and the lowest on an official PS4 DualShock 4 is £34.44. That's a £20.55/$26.76 difference.

"No other 3rd party wireless remote comes close to the quality of the pro controller"

Ah, blind Nintendo faith, nice to see you again. I look forward to seeing your individual reviews of every single third-party wireless controller.

All I was saying is that as someone with PS4 DualShocks, Xbox One (standard and Elite) controllers, and an official Nintendo Pro Controller in the house, the Maegoo controller I used felt very well made to me and was less than half the price of the official one. It lacks NFC, which doesn't matter for me as I don't use amiibo. As for HD Rumble, you're right. It isn't there. It has pretty strong motors that are close, but it isn't the 100% official Nintendo HD Rumble that the vast majority of games don't even use. But the fact remains that it's less than half the price of the official controller and works perfectly well.

Re: Near-Identical Fake Switch Pro Controllers Are Now On The Market

SuperKMx

Was always going to happen, given Nintendo have created a massive gap in the market for a wireless controller that doesn't cost £54.99.

Official controllers for the other platforms can be had for £35 new. Nintendo had the audacity to launch a "Pro" controller (that does nothing "Pro" above being just a controller that isn't a pair of Joy-cons) and charged double that for it at launch.

For the record, the Maegoo (lol) wireless controller that can be had for £25 is of surprisingly high quality. Only thing missing in amiibo/NFC support. Friend bought it and gave me buyer's remorse over the official Pro controller I bought at launch. :/

Re: Nintendo's "Illegal" Pre-Order System Issue Has Been Passed On To German Authorities

SuperKMx

@Octane That isn't the case.

In the UK, I pay twice as much to my ISP to get unlimited bandwidth. The standard package comes with a 30GB cap. Some ISPs have a "peak-time" cap where they limit you based on how much you use during peak hours, others have a throttling policy where they'll limit your connection to stupidly slow speeds if they think you're using too much data. A lot are unlimited, but bandwidth caps are still a very real problem for some.

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Celebrates England's World Cup Win By Changing Site To Russian (Maybe)

SuperKMx

@MrMac "Why don't you blame the author for jumping to conclusions "LOL! RUSSIAN CHARACTERS! THEY ARE CELEBRATING ENGLAND!" - Because the headline literally has the word "maybe" in it. It's clearly meant to be humourous.

You've ignored the "It appears that the site is accidentally using a Russian language file" part of the article and based solely on "MrMac says so" you've declared that the author of this article definitely did not check any facts and put the computers/phones of readers of this site at a high risk of being infected with a virus.

If that's how you wanna live, MrMac, go ahead. I just don't think it's right to throw accusations based solely on your own paranoia, with absolutely no proof.

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Celebrates England's World Cup Win By Changing Site To Russian (Maybe)

SuperKMx

@MrMac What I'm saying is that it's pretty freakin' obvious when a site has been hacked to anyone with technical knowledge (people that run websites...people that work on websites, etc.) it's not hard to tell in pretty short order if a site is dangerous or not. That's even before the browser warnings and antivirus software that according to your logic, are useless.

All I'm asking is simply this: Could you not give a writer on a site that you frequent the benefit of the doubt, before polishing up that tinfoil hat, rolling out the creases, putting it on, and leaping to "YOU ARE PUTTING US IN JEOPARDY HOW DARE YOU!"?

Could you not just assume that your intelligence has led you to frequent a GOOD website where the people know their jobs and know what they're doing? Why just assume that the writer hasn't done his due diligence?

If Nintendo had been hacked - and no, I'm not saying it's impossible - this story wouldn't have run. I already covered that. Lift the hat up a bit, it's blocking your vision.

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Celebrates England's World Cup Win By Changing Site To Russian (Maybe)

SuperKMx

@MrMac "Linking to a site that looks nothing like it should, yes, that's certainly not thinking before publishing because it could very well mean that that site is hacked"

Select pieces of Russian text in some places instead of English is not "looking nothing like it should" and the writer clearly knows that. And so does his virus scanner. And his browser.

If Nintendo's site had been truly hacked and was dangerous, there's no way this would have been published. And yes, there are ways that you can tell, outside of the browser alerts and a virus scanner. Rather, Nintendo Life would have been on the phone to Nintendo to tell them their site had been hacked. Your assumption that the writer just went "LOL LOOK! RUSSIAN!" and dove straight into publishing this is offensive to the writer. Why even consider that a games journalist could actually be professional in his work, right?

Either way, I'm out. You aren't going to reconsider your statements, so there's no point to this.

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Celebrates England's World Cup Win By Changing Site To Russian (Maybe)

SuperKMx

@MrMac "And I don't like that you're saying I'm wearing a tinfoil hat. That's very rude."

Almost as rude as accusing a professional writer of not thinking before publishing? As rude as suggesting that writer is so stupid that they would write an article where the whole purpose is to direct you to a hacked site so that you can pick up a virus, perhaps?

"I expect an apology and that you remove that rude comment."

Enjoy the wait. I hope you brought something to read.

Re: No, EA Hasn't Tinkered With FIFA 18 Following The World Cup Update

SuperKMx

It's quite clearly different, and the patch that introduced their half-assed World Cup modes have affected the gameplay in the main game in the same way. If they ever read their feedback forums, they'd see all the players saying 'it isn't just the World Cup mode, all of my players are noticeably slower now in the main game' but that seems to be beyond them.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Director Explains Why Motion Controls Are Mandatory

SuperKMx

@Jayvir "I get that some people might be inconvenienced due to disabilities, but the rest are just throwing a fit."

You don't have to be disabled to champion the cause for accessibility. I'm not disabled, but I know people who will not be able to play this game. It's not an "inconvenience" either. It's a steel door that locks them out of the experience.

If disability doesn't affect your life or the lives of anybody you know, then good for you. But it's not "throwing a fit" to speak out on something just because it doesn't directly impact you.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Director Explains Why Motion Controls Are Mandatory

SuperKMx

@MrBlacky "If you can't do some kind of throwing motion with one of your hands, I'm willing to bet, you have a hard time pressing a button either."

Then you'd lose that bet. Many disabled gamers can press buttons perfectly well if they don't need to move their hands but would either not be able to grip the controller to hold it while performing the motion, or would be able to grip the controller but not perform the motion.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Director Explains Why Motion Controls Are Mandatory

SuperKMx

"His response makes sense" - I disagree. His response is "we're forcing people to use motion controls because we want to."

There's absolutely no reason why Game Freak couldn't set it up to use motion controls by default, but give people the option to turn them off. Their decision means that folks who can't perform the motion controls due to disability are entirely unable to play the game unless they buy the optional accessory which - hopefully - they can use. They're also locking out the people who maybe want to play the game during their commute and don't want to be waving their hands about like a crazy person while on the train.

This is the classic "We know what you want, we know what you need. No, we don't need to listen to the people who buy our products because we know it'll sell anyway." approach. An approach that's been popularized in recent years by Nintendo, weirdly enough.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Go Live This September

SuperKMx

@kingofthesofa "If they expect people to pay for online they really need to start giving us some details about the structure and content of the service."

I'm sure they'll give more details about the structure and content when they aren't 7-8 months away from asking you to pay for it.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Go Live This September

SuperKMx

@Supergrass Microsoft's service requires you to keep subscribing too, now. Didn't used to, but it changed with the arrival of the Xbox One.

Still, your point stands. Switch Online may be more affordable, but it isn't wise to stack it up against the competition. They're offering three classic games (which people likely already bought not so long ago for previous systems and which - for my money - should be free to those people anyway) against handfuls of newer titles - as well as all the betas, free play weekends, voice chat without needing to use your phone, sale offerings, game previews, etc. - that you get on the other platforms.

It isn't the same product.

Re: Review: Ginger: Beyond the Crystal (Switch)

SuperKMx

@Zeargo "This is a fine example for why I don't trust reviews. They don't seem to know how to rate them well."

Just a heads up - "the reviewer doesn't know how to rate something well" is not the same as "the reviewer disagreed with me," which appears to be your actual problem with the review.

I'm glad you liked it more than the reviewer, but that doesn't mean the reviewer is incorrect.

Re: The Greatest Arcade Golf Game Ever Made Is Coming To Nintendo Switch This Week

SuperKMx

Cannot believe the comments on this article. Just the height of idiocy.

A game can be a fantastic and fun arcade title in the arcades, but then offer little value for money when ported to console. Neo Turf Masters is easily the best arcade-based golf title ever released, for my money.

The recent XO port recently released gave me an evening of entertainment - where I picked up all the achievements and had fun doing it - for £6.49. I haven't played it since. Therefore when you consider the value for money, it wouldn't score as highly.

Also, the Wii version was VERY bare bones. The Switch version (if it's the same as the XO/PS4 editions) will contain more game modes.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

SuperKMx

@Nico07 I've ordered a Pro Controller and your points are fair enough, but MSRP vs actual price is a different matter.

A new DS4 from Amazon UK is £39.60 and an Xbox One controller is £41. Sure, the Xbox One controller uses batteries and neither has motion control, but both the DS4 and XO controllers do come with headphone ports, the DS4 has a touch pad, and both have analogue triggers. The Switch Pro Controller doesn't have a touch pad, headphone port, or analogue triggers and is £64.99...or £69.99 depending on where you look.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

SuperKMx

@Kirk "hide away the big Ad space at the top if a visitor has blocked Ads (can show the little "Advert" text you have in the middle of the list when Ads blocked)"

So, they should do MORE work to ensure that the people who don't generate them any revenue don't get upset?

Sounds about right.

Nice to see that anyone who prefers something different to you (and preference is ALL this is down to) is a "twit" or a "geek." Real nice.

You keep saying that other sites that have changed are not "better" and that people have gotten "used to" them. But design is entirely subjective. What you dislike, others will actually like. It is NOT in any way a "fact" that a new design is better than an old one, or vice versa. It's your opinion.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

SuperKMx

@Kirk Allow me.

YOU ARE WRONG.

Sorry, but there's no other way to say it. You are wrong.

You've been told multiple times. You're being ridiculously paranoid. As a developer, I can tell you that testing new builds with AdBlock/Easylist installed is NOT a standard test scenario. And they aren't using a "plugin" either. This isn't a Wordpress site made by a ten year old.

They have now fixed the problem. I have AdBlock and Easylist in Chrome and I can post comments. With UBlock enabled in Firefox, I can post comments. So perhaps you'll let it rest now, or are you going to carry on attacking the site owners because of something that's all in your head?

If you hate the idea of seeing an ad that much and feel that you are being "forced", then leave. Just go.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

SuperKMx

@Kirk "And I shouldn't HAVE to view Ads if I don't want to. I shouldn't have to be monetised if I don't want to. "

You're absolutely right. Servers should be free and so should everything else! The thousands of hours in this new design should be free. Not only that, but every article should be written for free and every review should be provided for free, as should every feature.

If you're of that mindset, you can come and cut my lawn tomorrow. No pay, obviously. After all, why should I?

Re: Review: Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)

SuperKMx

@spurgeonryan I'm confused. Are you saying that providing context is a bad thing? Damn these reviewers and writing from a position of having experience of games so that they can provide detailed and honest reviews! How dare they?

You're technically saying that everything should get a 10 because reviewers should act as if they've never seen a videogame before.

Re: Bayonetta 2 Demo Now Live In The European Wii U eShop

SuperKMx

@kensredemption No sooner said, than done. Just played through the demo and am absolutely hyped for the full game. Feels satisfyingly similar to the first game, but looks stunning. Tremendous final boss fight in the demo.

Release day can't come soon enough for me!
