Just a reminder to folks - as the article says:- "You have until 23:59 on Saturday 29th December to submit your votes to [email protected], and the results will be published on New Years Eve. "
I had a GameBoy Camera and Printer back in the day for test purposes and took a headshot of myself on it and printed it out. That photo stayed on my (now-ex-) girlfriend's wall by the front door for a good 5 years, even though it was as grainy as all hell.
Game of the Year, for me. First game of 2012 that has me thinking about playing it when I get home from work, whilst I'm sat at my desk at 11am on a wet Monday.
@farfromsleep Haha - it's funny you mention that. I cut out a whole paragraph like that from my review. I saw a S.T.U.N. Runner arcade machine in the back and was DYING for them to have emulated it as an unlockable or something. Alas, no.
Downloaded this and - just like on the Xbox 360 edition of Uplay - it does nothing but throw errors saying that the server is unavailable. I still don't know what it does. :/
In the last 3 months, I've spent the best part of £1,000 on Nintendo hardware and games. No free game for me though, as I decided to buy a 3DS instead of a 3DSXL.
If this is true, then Nintendo have lost the plot. Anyone who wants to play Wii games without spending out for a Wii U, will buy a regular Wii (around £70-£90 if you look.) Anyone that wants to upgrade to a Wii U can play all their old games anyway on that machine. Plus, the Wii was tiny to begin with, so what good will making it smaller do?
This is lunacy of the highest order. UNLESS Nintendo can manufacture it for less money than the standard Wii costs to make. Then I can see the point, kind of - although it still sends a mixed message to the layman about Wii U.
Plus, if it costs anything more than £59.99, it won't sell. Retailers are already desperately trying to get rid of their old second-hand Wii stock. They won't exactly want to be pushing the Wii Mini when they've got a stockroom of second-hand Wii consoles that they paid £60-£80 per unit for.
@WhiteKnight You're absolutely right. It is entirely libelous to say "this person is dodgy." To say "Some people may trust this person a little less based on this thing they said" is not. VERY fine line, I admit, but the article falls on the "fair" side of that line for me.
And I don't think they'd get the "not for public discourse" allowance, given that the quotes were posted on public, unprotected Twitter accounts. Public domain as soon as they hit the enter key, unfortunately.
@bofis Yes, they are - and that's something I've dealt with previously when running my own sites. Gave a game a bad review, got told I couldn't get a review copy of their next game. I told the publisher to go ride a bike - then rented the game they refused to send me - but I'm sure that not everyone does that.
@WhiteKnight To be honest - and as with many things - interpretation is the key. Arguments on either side, but the unedited article featured unedited quotes taken directly from the Twitter feeds of the complainants, and didn't explicitly say "So this proves that this person is very very dodgy."
It isn't libelous to say that some people may interpret something someone says in a bad way, or that something they've said may influence other people's views of them in the future - and that's all the author was saying.
In my opinion, they edited the article because our stupid "guilty until proven innocent" libel laws mean that it would have cost a boatload of money just to clear their name, even if the complainant's case was very weak - which (again, in my opinion) it would have been.
I'd say he's absolutely right on the money. I've not heard many folks saying that they'll be buying four or more titles at launch. Nintendo are putting far too much stock in the likes of Batman: Arkham City and Assassin's Creed III when not many folks will be swayed to spend another £45 for the "extra content" in Batman, and AC fans will have purchased the game a month before for whichever console they've played all the games in the series so far on. Same goes for FIFA 13.
I have preordered four games, but I'd be hard pushed to find another title that I'm genuinely looking forward to in the ridiculously long launch window. It'll feel like the Dreamcast UK launch all over again, I think. Plenty of excitement, then a whole bunch of downtime where every single release is scrutinized to death. Unlike the Dreamcast though, the games will turn up in time.
As WhiteKnight says, supply and demand. Whilst there are idiots who can't say "no" to their children, this sort of thing will go on. Come December 1st, Wii U's will be changing hands in the UK for £600+ a pop as well.
Child wants console. Parent can't get it at retail. Parent is unable to say "no" to their child. Parent buys console from wherever they can, for whatever price. Because they didn't say "no" this time, it'll happen with the next console launch, too. And the one after that.
Kudos to the guy for taking advantage of it, I say.
This is all well and good, but for the prices that Nintendo will undoubtedly charge, I think I'll be better off keeping my original Wii sat next to my TV. I can't see myself paying 1800 points a pop for stuff like Billy Hatcher - especially when I spent £40 on it on launch day.
The saddest thing about this is when parents buy the game for their kids. Was in my local supermarket a few days ago, and a young lad was clutching his copy of FIFA 13 for the Wii, clearly massively excited at playing it, getting more and more agitated as his mum took ages over her shopping. She's telling him: "it's just a game...calm down..." - but he obviously wasn't going to.
I can't even imagine how heartbroken he was when he booted it up.
I don't see the problem with the price. Most people are complaining about the console - which will last them for YEARS - being £30 too expensive or £50 too expensive. They're so angry that they won't buy it (although they will.)
I wonder how much everyone spends down the pub on an average Friday night? Or on cigarettes in a month? Or on scratchcards or the lottery?
I don't know what's worse. The fanboys complaining, or the "TRUE HARDCORE" gamers turning up to complain about the fanboys complaining.
Either way, it makes for good reading.
I'm happy that Bayonetta 2 is coming out on any console, as I'm attached to games, not platforms. Platforms are tools that let me access my drug - gameplay.
@Linkstrikesback The only problem with that, is that Zavvi are notorious for totally fouling up preorders of both games and consoles. Last time I preordered a game from them, I got it three weeks after release. If it had happened once, I wouldn't mind - but it hasn't.

@WhiteKnight With respect, the Eurogamer article in no way broke "media law." The complainant didn't have a case as libel laws in the UK stand.
