A demo for the forthcoming Wii U action title Bayonetta 2 is now available on the European Wii U eShop.
The game doesn't launch until October 24th in North America and Europe, but Nintendo is clearly aiming to build up hype prior to release. A Wii U-exclusive sequel to the 2010 original — which is also coming to Nintendo's machine — it's one of the big releases of this year.
As you can see from the photo below, the demo is accessible from the game's page on the eShop itself.
Let us know if you've downloaded and what you think of the game so far.

NOA, don't be a witch and get us this!
I don't usually care for demos but I'll be downloading this one when I get home. I wish we could start a download remotely like you can on the other consoles so it would be ready to play when I got there.
No freaking way. Nintendo of America MUST bring the Bayonetta 2 demo here in North America at once!!! Anyways... to everyone in Europe and the UK, I salute all of you!
#EnjoyBayonetta2
If it is the expo demo then I've played it already but might still download.
Oh my god! That's awesome!
EDIT: No fair, headline has a climax joke, but I'm getting censored!
WHAAAAAAT? That is so cool!
It went live with the weekly eShop update so there a good chance North America gets it whenever the weekly update over there goes up.
LOL! I can give you my money now Nintendo, let us pre-order it on the eShop and let us play Bayo1!
Will there be a demo for NA, too? Bayonetta is not really my fav PG IP, but I'd like to give a try ...
Required space 17.5GB!!!!!! WTF....For a demo!!!!!
Think I'll just wait for two more weeks for my first edition print.
725MB Cap'n Toad
What about us in NA?
@CaptainToad That's not for the demo
LOL these climaxing jokes never get old.
@CaptainToad I believe that is the file size of the full download version. Not the demo.
Not going to download it to keep the full game fresh when i get it
So we can't climax on bayonetta?That sucks i wanted to so badly.
OMG Nintendo only allows you to have 15 climaxes! Not 30?
Not downloading demo if it comes to NA. I want the whole thing day one.
Can someone tell me the space required for the demo?
Would be great to be able to download this remotely. Currently on holiday but would be awesome to have it ready and waiting when I return home on Tuesday. Oh well, I guess with Nintendo, we have to take it 1 step at a time.
I actually got one of those notifications on my Wii U telling me it was available. First time it's ever been a useful feature. Hopefully the demo doesn't put me off the game.
Not going to bother with the demo but those of you on the fence should give it a try. I'll wait for the real deal in a couple of weeks, should have finished Shadow Of Mordor and Hyrule Warriors Adventure mode by then.
I remember not loving Wonderful 101 till I played the full game - might this be the same thing?
If it comes to NA I might download it to have it on my system but I am getting the game when it comes out and I got too much stuff to beat before then.
Ah! They're doing this demo mistake again.
I didn't know they planned on releasing a demo. I already preordered it. But if it comes to NA, I'll give it a try.
Downloading now.
@Dawn-Shade 725.1mb
Downloading it right this instant. Oh yes.
@RedYoshi999 Agreed!
@sinalefa - "NOA, don't be a witch and get us this!"
So funny I'm not even going to say anything, but you know I want too Oh what the heck, in the spirit of the season - just remember every demo you DL and play brings you 1 step closer to the dark side Bonus points for not saying "First".
@Peach64 - US updates in about 2 hours so that's what I'm thinking.
Demo's are good. Early, late, day 1, whenever. Sure it will cost a few sales from those who play it and don't like it, but others will play it and like it then buy it, and it's marketing and advertising to drive the hype, and some people simply want to "try before they buy". Demos have been out for at least 30 years for PC gaming, if they were that bad they would have surely gone the way of the dodo by now.
Downloading now. I think I will replay this Demo a lot, since I can't afford to buy Bayonetta 2 Day One unfortunately.
Insert climax joke here.
Hope we get this too. I really want to try it so I can see if I can play the game.
Ooooh... now I know how EU feels when NA gets the games before they do. You guys deserve the demo first, I can... painfully... wait......
I'm not crying...
Argh... I don't have enough time to enjoy Hyrule Warriors and Fantasy Life! How can I play this too? I prefer to wait other two weeks and enjoy the game as brand new.
I wish Nintendo did this for more of their stuff without you having to go into stores. I felt stupid standing in a Gamestop at a kiosk just to demo Hyrule Warriors when it should be just as easy to do so from the comfort of my couch.
FYI NOT up in the US, checked at 10:15ish AM ET. My Wii U light was on so I got excited thinking maybe a mesage would be there but no. Oh well store updates in anothe r2 hours, maybe then.
Speaking of eShop updates, shouldn't the NL post be out now? Surely it would be on that list, it usually mentions demos when there are any.
Played through a couple of times now. If this game doesn't get your adrenaline pumping… you'd better check your pulse!
It's cruel to get such a small teaser… I'm gonna go play it again XD
Gonna try this!
OH MY GOD, the demo was amazing! And i dont usually like this genre of games!
@rjejr
Well, you know what the thing is? When I have a game that is a definite buy, I want the demo. Same with Smash 3DS. There is no way a demo can sway me not to get it, so it is a taste before the main dish.
I can leave without demos, but if they are actually putting it there, I will get it. I even made a Wii U folder for demos!
I hate demos when they do not represent the game and make people avoid it. From what I have heard, MH and W101 are victims to this.
I really can't wait for this game... but also I think I'd prefer to experience it for the first time in full.
Pondering what to do....
I was about to get it some day when some discount start but after this demo now will be first day
Platinum clearly have their own thing going on. Pretty much hated W101 but this was quite amazing actually. Really short demo but I got the picture.
@kensredemption No sooner said, than done. Just played through the demo and am absolutely hyped for the full game. Feels satisfyingly similar to the first game, but looks stunning. Tremendous final boss fight in the demo.
Release day can't come soon enough for me!
I usually don't care about demos, but since I'm still a little iffy about this game, I'll definitely try it out.
I'll wait till release too
Just finished the Demo. Fantastic. Freaking fantastic. The enemy design is amazing, the gameplay is fun, the game runs smoothe without fps drops and the music is wonderful aswell. The only thing I don't like is that the Gamepad is used to stream the image of the TV. I know that there is not much use of a second screen in an action game, but I'd rather have the Gamepad screen be turned off (like in DKCTF) than wasting the battery of the Gamepad. It's funny though. The Demo only covers the prolgue, but it's filled with epic Boss fights already. They didn't lie about the non-stop climax. I'm really looking forward to the full game
That came out of nowhere. Already playing it.
Brilliant. I'll be home in about half an hour. First thing I'll do
I wasn't really hyped for this when I first heard about it. After the playing the demo, I may actually get it.
Heh, good job Platinum. Rally up dat hype with the demo. NA shall be waiting impatiently.
I was wondering what my gamepad had to tell this time, since there was that blue blinking....
I've preorded the game and usually the store ships it so it would arrive on release (24th this time) and I'm going away for the weekend on 24th XD Mayby I can touch the game before I go.
I might download it later today (^_^) Probably going to get the game, but not sure I will be getting it on launch because I have so many other games.
The whole NLife staff must be playing the demo......since i haven't seen an update for NA eShop releases for this week!
Awesome!
It seems NoA has a surprise for today. Download update usually gets posted 2 hours earlier before now.
Bad idea for a headline
@Gerbwmu - Yeah, I just heard my neighborhood 12 noon whistle blow - yes that's a real thing - and still no NA update.
@Gerbwmu the press site still does not have the update yet. So it is not there faults.
@rjejr - We didn't have a 12 noon whistle.....but the neighboring Canadian city did.....so I always knew when it was lunch time growing up.
@siavm - I figured it was late....but It's fun to tease the NLife staff a little now and again.
NA demo's confirmed! Download it now!
Holy smokes, this game plays amazing! So much fun!
I try to stay away from blood in video games myself, I might just watch a playthrough when it comes out to see if it's too much.
Wheb did they change the eShop music to the Hyrule Warriors version of the Zelda theme? O_O
Climaxing too soon?
I mean really? As if the game needs any further sexual references!
@Dragonxflame323 - Yep its there, DLing it now.
Also, FYI - B2 game is listed at $49.99, after not before, it says after - you buy it you can buy B1 for $9.99, making it $59.98 for both. So its sort of free, and it sort of isnt. If its $59.99 for both in store it does save you a penny
@AVahne In American eShop? Since the game was released like two weeks ago.
@Olmectron
Huh, honestly never paid any attention to the eShop since I try not to buy any retail games digitally on Nintendo consoles.
@MrGawain both! Play demo and get excited and then get full voila
Ran home on my lunch break to download this. I really wanted to just wait for the full game but I was going to drive myself nuts knowing this was available.
Fantastic demos wreck the game i will hold off till the games comes out. I played the destiny alpha and beta demos and when the game destiny come out it was a let down because of playing the demos to much.
@rjejr
So NOA has been a sage instead of a witch? Get the black carpet ready for me! As soon as I get home I will be going to the Dark (Umbran) Side!!
@AVahne Heh, that's okay. I myself buy everything digital, so I visit the eShop nearly everyday. And it's really harsh to hear that song again and again and again, since I've not been able to get Hyrule Warriors yet.
@sinalefa Is Nintendo publishing the game, right? Then yes, NoA's been a sage this time. Otherwise, it would be Platinum the ones to blame if they didn't release a demo.
@PokemaniacJOK - I dont like blood either, or zombies, or realistic violence. Its been 4 years since I played B1 but I dont recall any blood. I think the M rating was for the language - its fully voiced and obscemities were used - and probably the fact that shes naked. So if blood is your only issue youll probably be ok. Though obvioulsy I havent played 2 yet but I cant imagine they would add blood, its not that type of game.
Nevermind - just completely disreregard all of the above. Dont know what I was thinking. Sorry abiut that.
http://nintendoeverything.com/ bayonetta 2 demo in north America eshop now. Art of balance available & guacamelee on sale and more
The demo is fantastic. It FEELS just like the original game did. I was already impressed by the reviews and footage, but when a sequel loses the original director, you always worry a bit. Games like Viewtiful Joe 2 and Devil May Cry 2, although very good games, were not quite as good as their Kamiya-led predecessors.
This Demo is absolutely awesome, jaw dropping visuals and heart pounding action.
On my 42" flatscreen HDTV with surround sound on full, it was as though I was playing a Sega cabinet arcade game. Never played the Bayonetta games previously but this transported me to the feelings I got playing those big Sega arcade releases.
I'm glad I have this on pre-order from day one.
This will be my game of the year I think. (Sorry Mario)
Oh my.
This demo could get more PS3 and Xbox 360 owners yto upgrade ro a Wik U then everything else on the Wii U the last 2 years.
@Olmectron
Yes, they are. I hope again that this demo encourages instead of discouraging people from getting the game.
Disappointing...since I mastered W101 I just managed to finish the demo in like 7 min...I guess I can replay to get better score (got Bronze) but nah...I'm still interested, the game looks good and sounds amazing...but there is a little thing that is bothering me with Platinum games, and it's the nonsensical physics. Like fighting on top of a Jet fighter!...come on!
@rjejr Nah....considering that Bayo1 sold badly on those platforms the numbers of fans interested to buy a WiiU due this games are peanuts. I am not saying there won't be any, but this game is not a console seller...let's just wait for Smash...a game that has never been a console seller but it has more chances, specially since the 3DS games has gotten good reviews and good sales.
@sinalefa - Oh that shouldnt be a problem. Looking forward to your comments later. And youll have the benefit of not playing a lot of HW this past week, its all the opposite buttons, I died in the demo
@sinalefa Yes, I hope that too. As long as it is released at the same time on both Europe and America.
The Wonderful 101 had me completely hyped, and more with the demo, however, I didn't get it since Europe got it on mid August last year, America got it by mid September, and so many news and so about the game were already out everywhere. That kind of killed my hype (that and the soon to be released Wind Waker HD, by then), and I'm yet to buy it. So good this time it releases the same on both regions.
@chilenozo - Well I did say the last 2 years And I didnt mean to imply this game would sell a lot of Wii U, just more to the hardcore gamer crowd than anything previously relaesed on Wii U. Its the game I would use as a showcase to convince someone.
Oh, and you better not get Smash, I think theres a level where you fight on top of Starfoxs jet fighter, in outer space, without spacesuits
@Olmectron - I think you should play W101 while you wait for this, its gonna seem weak after.
@Olmectron
I second @rjejr, you should get W101. I am pretty sure that if you like Bayo 2 you will like it too. I ended playing Bayo 1 after W101, but both are great games so I never felt any of them weaker than the other. I just kept calling Bayo's Alfheim's as Kakoo Regahs, the names of the hidden missions in each game.
This was my first time playing Bayonetta and it was fun. I usually don't play extremely violent games, but surprisingly I was able to ignore all the blood splatter. I guess there was just way too much going on. Or because I was playing with guns. They seem like a more 'friendly' weapon compared to swords and the like. Didn't know there is also another weapon available. Have to try that one, too. And also to get a better trophy. ^^;
Having played it now makes me really question the button masher claims, though.
@Peach64
Can't go without a stab, can you?
@sinalefa
One word. Time difference.
@rjejr Maybe it will. I could catch it now that it is $30 on the eShop (I know I can find it cheaper somewhere else, but I'm going all digital right now with Nintendo, even with those issues about no software-account linking). I see what you mean, W101 and Bayonetta look like the same kind of games (gameplay wise at least). Going to wait and see which one I'll play first.
@sinalefa It's still on my to-buy list. However, with Bayonetta coming soon, I'm not sure which one to get first. I think I'll go with Bayonetta and let W101 for even later.
De demo does a good job of teaching you the basics and gives a great taste of the first part of the game. I will treasure my 15 times startup limit. Damn you Nintendo I can only start this once every day I have to wait for the full game
@Warbeard Bayonetta is way more accessible.
Downloaded.
It rocks.
really enjoyed it lol manedged to complet the demo with a Gold rank
Gotten the demo 2 1/2 hours ago and I COULDN'T put my Game Pad down. Bayonetta 2 is truly a perfect 10!
Downloading now, I wonder if Platinum made the same mistake as they did for W101 though as their games are generally not suitable for demos.
Demo proved 3 things to me:
1. Game is fast paced, chaotic and fun
2. I'm horrible at this game
3. I will be buying it
Wow, the demo was intense. Done two playthoughs so far. The touch method was a bit easier.
just finished it with a silver rating, now i want the full game even more. Fantastic visuals, good gameplay and the difficulty was spot on for me. Though i might have to get the pro controller, i don't want to put too much strain on the gamepad.
Err... I read somewhere that the NA eShop currently has the demo available. Can you clarify that?
It's times like this that you wish you could purchase or download software from another device.
@Leu10antFalcon Calm down dude, it's already on the american eshop.
@VolcanoFlamesNL - Yes it is available in the NA eShop.....I downloaded it about 2 hours ago
@Gerbwmu 4. Still time to practice those combos.
@Rin-go
Yeah, the time difference between this article being posted and NOA confirming the demo would be there
That was the best and most epic demo i ever played. So glad I preordered the first print edition now.
That is how you sell a game, that dragon fight round the building was the most incredible thing I have seen in a video game for ages. I was genuinely excited the whole demo. It was like a roller coaster. Can't wait till release now
@PinkSpider Completely agree wit you - Just... Amazing!
Now I just need to freeze myself for 2 weeks and a day, then wait for the mail man to arrive with my special edition! ><
This is quite good.
Yours Sincerely,
Captain Understatement.
It's the sort of thing you can do (releasing a demo this early) when you're fully aware of how good your product is. I've just played the demo and It's the most stylish and visually stunning game I've seen in a long time. It's not stop crazy, explosive action. Sold.
@hybridseed did you preorder the first print edition?
Duuuude! I've played Bayo 1, so I knew what to expect. But my heart is still racing at how non stop adrenaline action, visually stunning, and epically cinematic this game is, and just a 4-7 minute playable demo. Wow, and more wow! This is how you do a demo. Cannot wait , 2 more weeks!
Well that was absolutely, totally, completely and utterly fantastic. Played the demo with a huge grin on my face the whole way through and then played it again straight after I finished. I can't wait for the full thing now; still two weeks to go, arglebeh!!
Definitely going to get this at some point. I've been itching to play a great action game, and I have an even bigger itch to go through the DmC games again (don't have any of my old DmC copies, though). Considering this series and DmC were made by the same guy, and the action looks top notch, this should be able to scratch both itches.
Fantastic demo! It's got me feeling good about the game. Solid frame rate even when squaring off with the dragon scaling the tower. This titles going to rule!
@PinkSpider No my friend, just the special edition, both games on disk First print edition a little over my price range but both games for just over £40 is a bargain imo...
How about you?
Wow, I was completely blown away by the demo. I'm incredibly impressed by all the detail in this game. A nice show piece for the Wii U. Getting this day one for sure.
Im not interested in the game at all but since its a free demo ill try it if it comes to the US.
I just played the US demo. I'm glad I had the chance to try this before I bought it. I found this game to be very fast, hard to tell exactly what's going on, and a lot of button mashing. Having said that, I think I kinda liked it... I don't play a lot of games like this, and it kinda reminds me of Batman Arkham City which is on sale for $14 on Amazon. I think I'd rather replay that for $14 than spend $50 on this game. I was actually kind glad when the demo was over, but I'm gonna give it another try even though the music is horrible.
@Subie98
Indulge my friend. The demo is on the NA eShop.
Demo = Fantastic
Game = Must Buy
Me = Want to Play NOW
@JaxonH thanks for the pro-tip, appreciate it. Ill check it out this weekend.
I tried the demo last night and it was awesome.
I cant wait to received my pre-ordered first print edition
@Pahvi Quite the opposite. This demo is perfect. It's short, it shows what the game is all about, and it shows the start of the story.
Plus, it's a nonstop rollercoster of crazy poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople. Literally, every time they show you something cool, they one-up themselves with something even cooler. From the reviews of the full game, this keeps going until the very end.
I've played the demo and it's awesome! They've learned a lesson from the crappy W101 demo. I'm only disappointed that I can't map the controller buttons according to my preference. I want to use the DPad for movement (not a big deal since it's a 3D game but I can do the circle movement with the DPad better/faster than that stick) and I want the jump button assigned to A (big deal). There are only 4 preset settings.
734.something MB for the demo I think. Couldn't resist and played. Can't freaking wait but I will have to play through the first one first as I only have the PS3 version. Got it for ten or 5 bucks on a flash sale. I'd be so angry if I had gotten it at full price.
This game is so much smoother compared to that crappy port. Can't wait to play through them both on my wii u.
As usual top notch game by Platinum. Paying off my preorder today!
lol i find it stupid that ppl got censored for those climax jokes yet the article it self is hinting at it sigh >.>
anyway already download and played this idk why ppl complaining about it not being in US when it is o.o the demo though is badass this is the types of games they should be over hyping since its more of a mature player game
Just played the demo and boy the game is a non stop rollacoaster, glad I preordered the speacial edition.
This deserves to sell by the "megaton" when released in a couple of weeks time.
OK, looks like I'm at odds with most other folk but I played the demo last night and it really wasn't for me. I found the BLAM-BLAM-BLAM action quickly got quite bland and unsurprising. No exploring, just stuck on a platform fighting a few monsters followed by another platform and monsters then another. The huge end of level baddies just felt messy and underwhelming...and the music made me barf. Still, glad its a Wii U exclusive and want it do a well and sell well, just won't be getting a copy for our house!
Thanks NL for the heads up! Downloaded and played the demo last night here in NTSC land and like most folks said above, what a thrill ride! ***RACES TO GET PREORDER IN***
Downloaded and played the demo, it's amazing...
All the negativity by Digital Foundry must be later in the game. The demo played beautifully with so much going on.
Demo confirmed what I already suspected: touch controls are a bit useless, but with classic input, this is another day one purchase for me.
Plays fast and smooth, Bayonetta is as lithe and sexual as ever and Jeanne's return was beautiful. Decent variety of gameplay with a rather compelling twist at the end. The ranks and medals give even the demo replay value and the final attack leaves little to the imagination.
If this leaves any doubt that Platinum has as much freedom with Nintendo, I'd be surprised. She's back and will be better than ever.
Anyone on the fence about buying should try the demo. At less than 5 percent of the final download's size (a rather miniscule 700 or so MB), and the final version including both the first and second titles for less than MK8, it's hard to justify not playing it once.
For those complaining about the non-stop action, well.. it's Bayonetta. But there is more diversity in the final game. Screenshots have shown that.
@CaptainToad the demo is 750MB the full game is 17GB
Wow, I have played it through once and can honestly say I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
Solid fast paced mind blowing action, this is how a demo should be done.
Triple A Wii U next gen show stopper.
@hybridseed first print for me I love my special editions
