They actually have these in TWO locations in Paignton, Devon. One of them is a 4-seater setup. I was blown away, given the most recent other machine in teh town is a Race Driver GRID Arcade from three or four years ago.
The game is decent fun but there's not much of a draw to pay £1 a race when I've got a very similar - and better looking, in places - game sitting at home that I can play for as long as I want.
@WiiLovePeace I'm not going to get into slinging mud with you, since it's quite clear there's little point, given that you instanly invalidated all of your arguments by kicking off your initial comment with "what a load of crock of an article" simply because three people didn't 100% agree with your quite clearly massively biased view.
@WiiLovePeace I'd love to know how you thought Microsoft was just shooter after shooter in their show, given that they showed Forza Horizon 2, Forza Motorsport 5 (DLC), Ori and The Blind Forest, Assassin's Creed Unity, Dead Rising 3 (DLC), Phantom Dust, Inside, Project Spark, Fable Legends, Dance Central, Scalebound, and 41 different indie titles (some of which, I grant you, were shooters - but by no means all of them.)
I guess maturity brings the ability to see facts, as opposed to just seeing what you want to see.
Beautiful piece of hardware, but I'm really not seeing what makes it worth $499. The cost price on the thing would be nowhere near that. Buy a NES, a CRT screen, and a absolute stack of games for the same money, I say!
As someone that has a serious problem with collecting things and also with starting collections and never finishing them, this is crazy. Absolutely amazing job. LOVE the work that's gone into displaying them. All work that was worthwhile too - it all just looks great. Good stuff!
Totally just snagged a Luigi one of these. About time...there's been nothing worth having on the European Club Nintendo for AGES (hence me having 8500 points just sat there!)
@Reynoldszahl German is spoken in places other than Germany, though. Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Luxembourg come to mind. Austria and Switzerland are another combined 15million+ speakers, and add around 500,000 more for Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
I've no idea why they've released this. To be honest, NES Open Tournament and Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf were far superior on the NES. Konami holds the licence to the latter, but the former is all Nintendo.
I remember this series from the Dreamcast. I had the train controller as well, and even though I couldn't understand a word of what was going on, it was good fun!
@Nirvana Your regular Wii remote will work with the Wii U. I use my old Wii remote with my Wii U without an issue. If you have a MotionPlus add-on for your Wii remote, that'll work too.
The Wii Remote Plus is just the old Wii remote with MotionPlus built in, is all.
Until this happens, I won't download anything substantial for a Nintendo console. I've never purchased any retail games digitally on the Wii U or 3DS for exactly this reason. Not having a centralised account that allows me to re-download items is absolute nonsense and unfortunately, the fact that they STILL haven't done this shows exactly how far behind Nintendo's infrastructure actually is. Real shame, to be honest.
And Lin1876 makes a great point too regarding paying for stuff twice. If I buy something on the Wii U VC, I expect to be able to play it on the 3DS VC, especially for the price they're trying to charge for 20 year-old games. In a lot of cases, I can buy the actual carts cheaper on eBay!
@JaxonH I agree with most of what you're saying there, but to say that the Wii U has one of the best year one libraries to date, and that the PS4 and Xbox One launch lineups are mediocre, are both the stuff of fantasy, for me. And I'm a guy that bought a premium Wii U on day one, with five games to go with the bundled ZombiU!
The Wii U year one library is average in comparison to even the most recent console launches. Yes, Nintendo super-fans have Mario, Pikmin, NintendoLand, et al, and there's a bunch of downloadable stuff that's worth a look. But to people that aren't totally crazy for Nintendo, it leaves a lot to be desired.
To say that there's the variety of even the PS2's first year lineup (which wasn't amazing, quality-wise) is taking it too far. As someone who isn't 100% pro-Nintendo all day long, I could well be interested in most of the games listed in the PS4 and Xbox One launch lineups. Sure, I'll enjoy new Wii U titles as and when they hit the shelves, but it's horses for courses. A lot of gamers - in fact, most gamers, looking at the sales figures - are not convinced by the titles that are available for Wii U as yet. If the first-year lineup was that great, that wouldn't be the case and it would be selling like hot cakes.
People are missing out on some great experiences, but I can't say that I blame them, right now. I'm not a Pikmin fan, so until The Wonderful 101 came out, I had nothing shiny and new to play on the Wii U for five or six months. The fact is that if you own another console, there's very little that would convince you to buy a Wii U right now. My Gamepad actually had a cobweb on it - no lie!
@MadAussieBloke You honestly think Microsoft and Sony (or their games divisions) are going to die? The PS3/360 have shifted 150million units worldwide between them, at roughly a 50/50 split. Extrapolating the current numbers, the Wii U is set to shift around 22million units in total over the same lifespan.
I just don't see your logic about Microsoft and Sony playing it safe and somehow dying because of it. Surely playing it safe - which is the definition of aiming your product at the target audience - is more likely to make them successful? How's all that innovation doing for the Wii U right now?
And no, the Vita isn't doing well, but given that the Wii and Wii U combined make up around 38% of the weekly PS3 sales numbers, and the fact that the PS4 will likely have a larger installed base than the Wii U by February 2014, I don't think Sony are all that worried.
The same way that Nintendo shouldn't worry all that much, thanks to their 3DS sales being strong enough to keep them well in the black for many years to come.
@QuickSilver88 I don't understand that, to be honest. Launch lineups are not generally weak. Far from it. There's a lot of dross, sure, but there are generally a handful of solid titles. The platform holder tries to put their best foot forward in order to drive sales. Doesn't always work, but you generally get a handful of titles.
And you're missing Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Fighter Within, Zoo Tycoon, Crimson Dragon, Lococyle, Peggle 2, and Powerstar Golf from your list of Xbox launch exclusives (plus a handful of digital titles that are TBC.) They're not everyone's cup of tea for sure, but they're exclusive, nonetheless, and can't be just glossed over because it suits the argument.
@DarkCoolEdge It sure can! I just don't see what I've said that was particularly troll-like. I certainly didn't say anything that was more inflammatory than Reggie's "Meh", anyway.
@DarkCoolEdge Not to start an argument, but just because someone says something against the great and almighty Nintendo, it doesn't make them a troll or a "hater. " It means that they have an opinion.
An opinion that is just as valid as yours, if expressed correctly.
"I look at our lineup of titles and I feel good about our lineup. We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong."
Well that's three. Wonderful 101 and Pikmin. That's five.
PS4 has 15 titles at retail on day one, plus a bunch of solid looking downloadable games, and Xbox One has 18 retail titles on day one, plus a bunch of solid looking downloadable titles. Most of the retail titles on those machines are "triple A" releases, too.
I don't particularly think Reggie's played this one correctly, if I'm honest. Especially the day after announcing My First Handheld Console.
And thus, Nintendo began to throw poor decisions at the one place where they were doing well: The handheld market.
Just such an awful design. Whoever dreamt this up is insane, and all of the people that approved it so far without saying "What? WHY?" need to be let go.
@WiiUExposed Couldn't agree with you more. The problem is though, that even when that's the case and you can get exactly the same results with a little more work - as in my example - people don't seem to realise that's the case. They just see the ability to pay as being some sort of barrier.
@WiiUExposed The problem is that as soon as anyone introduces payment options into a free title, everyone brands it as "pay to win", no matter what.
I play an online soccer management MMO. Been going for years as a free game. It isn't a short-term sort of game that you can play for five minutes...it actually takes time be successful. A month or two ago, they introduced the ability to change a player's preferred role on the pitch for around £6. There's absolutely no need to do this in order to win or be successful. It's a shortcut.
In the week that they introduced it, they lost around 46% of the die-hard player base of around 100,000 people, who complained that the game had become "pay to win" and therefore decided to quit.
I don't understand. Gamestop isn't a publisher, so how are they getting the actual game discs? Are we saying that Nintendo are providing the discs and Gamestop are reprinting the packaging? Or that Gamestop are duplicating discs themselves now, and selling technically pirated software? Or, did they just keep a bunch of stock back at launch to sell as "used" later on? Remarkable and uncharacteristic foresight by Gamestop, if the latter is the case.
Not being deliberately stupid, I just genuinely don't understand how this is supposed to have been done, and how Nintendo aren't having any fingers pointed at them.
@WinterWarm Hi WinterWarm - thanks for your kind comment! I can't say that I've played Jack The Ripper on the 3DS eShop as yet. It wouldn't have to be too special to be better than MCF: Ravenhearst, though!
Tell that to the people at EVO... but keep on talkin. I love the negative responses on every website I go.
What do you expect? This was an utterly unfathomable and bone-headed move by Nintendo. There's no possible way in which they made the right call, up until they backtracked. Nobody's going to be saying "Yay, Nintendo were so right about this!" are they?
I honestly don't know why they bothered releasing the basic SKU in the first place. Retailers didn't want it, gamers (generally) didn't want it, consumers were (as they always are) confused by it, and the cost of producing two bundles added to the cost of both in the long run. Should have just shaved some off the price of the Premium and not bothered with the Basic.
@Jukilum Most of Capcom's Resident Evil PR stunts are. I'm guessing it's because they're running out of ideas to sell the same game to consumers twice a year.
I just had a little nervous breakdown. I LOVE The Mysterious Cities of Gold. Watched them all as a kid, and went straight through the boxed set on DVD a few months ago. Amazing!
