This cabinet was at my local skating rink when I was growing up. I have watched the demo screen on this machine probably more than any other one ever. Don't think I ever actually played it though as I remember it being next to a TMNT2 Arcade game we played non-stop.
My personal "Game of the Year" back when it was released. I cannot wait to play this again on the go soon. I have two 10+ hour flights coming up next month where Ori will fit into perfectly!
For all the first timers out there... I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
I agree that the EU colors on the SNES controllers are far to superior to the purple/gray combo we have here in the US. I will say though the different button textures the US has is way better than the 4 standard face buttons in EU...
No idea why they decided to make them this different in these regions all those years ago?
Also, I got mine in this mail this afternoon and they are AMAZING and feel so right when playing the SNES games on Switch
This is the first week in a quite a while that 5 selections is simply not enough for what I will be picking up. I am so excited to revisit Ori soon and having never played a Dragon Quest game I am excited to try out the original soon.
I am pretty excited for this one to be honest. It looks like a sub 20 hour RPG (totally guessing on this), which fits perfectly into my lifestyle ATM. I would love to get deep into a 60+ hour RPG however it would take me 8 months to complete lol
I'm more on the fence about getting this than I was before reading the review lol... It seems everyone either thinks this game is absolutely incredible or complete trash!
Maybe that is just what the game wants though... hmm
Got mine yesterday (thanks Amazon for the early delivery!) and I must say I absolutely love it. Here are my initial thoughts a few hours in.
It is WAY lighter weight than I thought it would be
The d-pad feels even better than I thought it would, and it's placement feels perfect
The screen is so crisp due to the slightly smaller size. I put Zelda on last night and I was blown away.
Overall as my "travel Switch" this thing is absolutely perfect. Also, I can give to my son from time to time without too much fear of complete destruction, lol.
Man.. I have never heard of or even seen a screen shot of this game before! Doesn't look like something I would enjoy, but will keep an open mind until I see some videos of it.
I have a handful of games that I purchased for $0.99 or less and for the most part they are pretty bad (looking at you Bouncy Bob which I bought for 1 cent!).
There were however a few games that I bought due to an insane sale like Xeodrifter ($0.99), SuperBeat Xonic ($0.89), Don't Die Mr. Robot ($0.99) and Bulb Boy ($1.50) that I actually really enjoyed and would have certainly skipped had it not been for the sale price.
I love me a good LEGO game, however I think in most cases it's the lineups of unlockable characters that makes it. I like Jurassic Park and all, however unlocking "random scientist 3" from a cast of characters does not excited me nearly as much as a Star Wars, DC or Marvel list. Also, the lack of open-world (my favorite part of City) is a deal breaker for me. I will pass on this one while I wait for the new Star Wars LEGO game next year
First I have heard of Kunai.... love the look of it!
Also, cannot wait to play Blasphemous once the autumn of wallet hell is over. I know a lot of people are sick of these kind of games, but I can never have enough
I bought this Friday night and already have over 10 hours into this game, lol... needless to say I love it and cannot wait to keep playing after football tonight!
Side note... I have only tried 7 of the 19 tables so far!
Do any of these SNES games have online (with friends I imagine) multiplayer like the NES games did? I haven't had a chance to boot these up yet as I am knees deep into Spyro and don't want to quit my game lol.
Breakout games are one of my guilty pleasures... I will most likely add this to my collection when it goes on sale.
I recently purchased the Doughlings brick breaker game when it dropped to like $2 and came away really impressed! More of these type of games the better in my eyes
This has been on my wish list since it's release, however I am just never in the mood to pick it up when I decide to buy a new game. I assume some day it will fall on my lap during a deep discount, however I am in no rush for that time to come.
This is one of those "down the road" games for me. I want to play and it probably will, however am in absolutely no rush to do so. A year or two from now when it drops to $9.99 or something I will pick it up and prob enjoy it quite a bit.
Man, this is a bummer. This was hands down one of my most anticipated games this fall, however all of the reviews I have heard sound similar and the flaws they mention are some of the ones I hate most in games.
Will be passing on this for now and will check back in next year sometime (maybe during a big sale) to see if everything has been improved.
@Aaronnnnn We are just joking that every time an article is published that says a game will be Digital only the comment section turns into a very volatile place.
Personally I agree with @Robzilla, that I want this bad boy on my switch forever and don't want to replace carts to play it
I loved the first one on my Vita back in the day and always wanted to play the second one (though I have heard very mixed results).
With Sept/Oct being overloaded with games I want, I will hold on this for now and will pick it up when on sale or during a gaming drought (will I ever have one of these again though!?!?!?!)
I have a bit of an issue with the con "but likely to be an online wasteland within weeks". While agree this will most likely be the case, I do not think it's fair to dock the game for something you assume is going to happen.
If somehow this game has a vibrant and active online fanbase will you come back and adjust the score?
Overall great review and I agree with the other points, just think we should be fair when knocking something that is not the case when reviewed.
I absolutely loved this lineup (at least 5-8 games I will 100% be buying). Ori was one of my favorite games I played the year it came out and never got to the DLC released after, so will gladly double dip to play this again. Also, Torchlight 2 and and The Touryst looked amazing. Hands down the game I am most excited for is Creature in the Well though. Thrilled we finally have a release date and cannot wait to get my hands on it!
Man... between this, Hat in Time and Luigi's Mansion (plus whatever else stealth drops on me from the e-shop) October is going to kill my wallet and social life lol.
@JayJ I did watch the video (it was really good!) however there is a difference between Nintendo Arcade Games (like the ones in the video and Punch-out) and Vs. Arcade Games (which are NES clones, like Excitebike, Balloon Fight, Pinball and the others I named above).
The Arcade games were ported to the NES after their release (with many differences like you mention), however the Vs. games were ported the other way with NES coming first and then given arcade releases after the fact with very subtle differences (like adding 2 player to some games or remixing the levels around).
@JayJ The arcade version of Punch Out is actually not a Vs. game (like Ice Climbers, Super Mario Bros, and this Gradius release). It predates the NES game.
The Vs. games are nearly identical to their NES siblings with subtle differences, usually to make them harder to eat quarters
I love me some Gradius, however I am not sure there is enough here for $8 considering we have nearly the same game for free on the NES online service...
After completing Cosmic Star Heroine last week (really fun game BTW) I have jumped into Resident Evil (1) this weekend.
About half way through it as I can tell and man it's GREAT! I have never played the series (not a huge fan of the spooky games) but thought the recent sale was as good of a time as any. I may have to grab the rest of them if they go on sale again as I heard they get better and better (until 5, haha).
I am waist deep in Resident Evil (1) at the moment which I picked up on sale last week.... I hated the clunkiness of it at first, however now it's really growing on me about half way through.
For this week I will eventually pick up Turok 2 and Fell Seal when a sale comes. Also, I don't know why however Pix the Cat is calling my name too. May have to try that out in the future.
I told myself if I saw a discount for this game I would pick it up, however at $20 (after the discount) I still think it's a bit high... the other SteamWorld games have gotten crazy discounted (after I bought them all for full price at launch) so may wait for a while as I am in no rush and my backlog is maddening.
I will say, this game looks amazing and I will 100% pick it up at some point with this extra content!
I am so pleased with the pricing of all three of these I bought them just out of principal. If more developers took note of this ($5 for older games, $10 for more modern) they would sell so many more... Looking at you $40 Saints Row the Third
I played the first Trine when it was free on PS+ many moons ago and simply could not get into it... I know it's better with others and I mainly played solo, so maybe that is why.
I will pass on this, however if the 4th one gets rave reviews I might be swayed to try again.
I love anything Picross, so I will be picking this up when I need a puzzle break to eat some time. This really makes me wish they would do a cross-over with a 3rd party IP I am familiar with though.... something like Disney / Marvel / Star Wars
