Re: New Nintendo Patent Hints At Improved Voice Chat On Switch 2

Siskan

While I would have preferred to have the chat on the Switch itself rather than through their app, I think one great advantage Nintendo's system has over third party apps like Discord is that the chat can be tied to the game. Ive only used it with Splatoon, but I thought it was great how it would automatically split the group into two different chats based on the two teams we ended up in and how they were automatically combined again once it was over. It's very convenient and seamless.

Re: Switch OLED Model Rates 2 Out Of 10 On Screen Durability Scratch Test

Siskan

@Curator I also don't get it. When I see how beaten up some games and consoles are I really struggle to imagine how people made them that way.

As for screens I haven't scratched a single device, including the ones I've owned as a child. I don't even use any permanent protection (just carrying bags and such).

I have one phone I used back in high school with a scratch on the screen. The cause was lending it to a classmate for five minutes during a break. He wanted to try a game on it.

Re: Reggie Admits Switch Was A "Make Or Break Product" For Nintendo After Poor Performance Of Wii U

Siskan

@AJDarkstar The two of us.
I believe they called it the next system at least twice before they played the trailer and they presented the controller as the new controller for Wii U after having revealed that being the name of the new system.

Nintendo's mistake was overestimating the amount of people capable of listening. They should have showed the console itself on stage and not just in the background of the trailer.

Re: Nintendo Switch Took 87% Of Japan's Console Market in 2020

Siskan

@Clyde_Radcliffe I feel exactly the same about PlayStation. I especially liked the Japanese mid section between AAA and indie where there were tons of unique experiences to be found. Also all of the JRPGs. Today it's just competing with Xbox in the grayest game and most teraflops categories with just a few interesting AAA titles.

As for Nintendo's competition in Japan back in the days, NEC and Hudson Soft's PC Engine was slightly bigger of a threat compared to SEGA.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light - We've Come A Long Way In 30 Years

Siskan

A recommendation from someone who has played them all, try the third game in the series and the first on SFC (SNES). That is if you're interested in the series beginning but want a more refined experience. It's partially a remake of this game and more.

Most people weren't too happy with the DS remake. Not necessarily because it's bad or worse than the original, it probably had a lot to do with it coming out right after several of the series best and including dull pre-rendered sprites instead of the pixel marvel which gave birth to entire Fire Emblem dedicated pixel art communities etc. That said I still prefer the SFC take on the game.

At the same time I wish a lot of people would buy this to show them that we want to see more.

Re: Random: Amazon's Luna Controller Sure Does Look Familiar

Siskan

@Crono1973 Yes, but whether it's putting out arcade games, pong clone systems and lcd games for a piece of the domestic market in the 70s/80s or a proper home console building upon that foundation when the market was emerging and hardly saturated, it's still vastly different.

Re: Random: Amazon's Luna Controller Sure Does Look Familiar

Siskan

@Crono1973 When Nintendo and Sega did that no company had really had any major success in Japan. Once they got to cartridge based consoles they were the natural next step from earlier gaming products of theirs. Sony on the other hand had already invested in the project together with Nintendo, not to mention they had already made MSX computers and even published games for them in the 80s.

I'm not saying other companies can't have a go at it, but in all the cases you mentioned they all had previous experience and the market was very different.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 1.2.1 Patches Duplication Glitches

Siskan

@Heavyarms55 It isn't purely single player though. I play with my family almost daily and a couple of real life friends weekly. In the very beginning I also enjoyed visiting people I found online and trading things. Very soon these duplication glitches and time travel exploits made it so it was entirely impossible to compete with people being able to almost effortlessly offer just about any amount of gold and Nook miles tickets the other part could dream of.
Since then I was able to make one trade, offering a bout a month's worth of play. It doesn't feel great.

So yes it does affect people who like to play the game as intended. Luckily I can still partially enjoy this aspect with my friends, but if I didn't have them I would probably have quit playing a long time ago.

Re: Switch Joy-Con Drift Claim Must Be Arbitrated, Says Illinois Federal Court

Siskan

@Zeldafan79 I did this too when I had a really bad case and it went away completely. I didn't even open them up, just gently lifted the rubber to partially expose it from the outside.

If this is how easy it is for everyone (or having to open them in order to do the same at most) I could see why Nintendo would fight this, if not it's a shame.

Re: Random: This Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct Video Would Be A Dream Come True

Siskan

@RupeeClock People actually get different recipes from the tutorial, so there's that to it as well. Funny enough, a friend of mine who has been playing from day one asked if I could make log benches and so I made two for her today. Similarly I got stuff from the iron garden series from the tutorial, while she got the other garden series (forgot the name). So we exchanged some of those just the other week as well.

Re: Dark Horse Reveals Zelda Encyclopedia as Final Instalment in Its Goddess Collection Book Series

Siskan

@Bunkerneath They write as if Dark Horse produced these, but the fact is that they are just licensed versions of already published Japanese books. The first one was a 25th anniversary volume part of Nintendo's official guide book series and the others were published by the Nintendo Dream magazine.

My point here is that the first book was originally released before Skyward Sword and the other two before Breath of the Wild.

So as long as it takes Dark Horse more than a year to localize them, they will never be up to date even at the point of release.

Re: Nintendo Highlights The Visual Changes in Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Siskan

@DDStuff Oh alright. Actually there's still a small error in there. The eyebrows seem to float just a tiny bit in front of the head, so in this angle they appear to partially grow on the eyelids.

I'd wish they would have used similar character designs to the first game, but other than that everything seems really promising.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Nintendo Switch Pre-Order and Launch Day Plans?

Siskan

@JaxonH Actually the Wii U works in a similar way. When you connect an external HDD, the games on the internal memory will stay there and can be moved to the HHD.

I don't remember whether it's possible to move games from the HDD to the internal memory, but you can only install new games to the HDD unless you plug it out. This was even the case when my HDD was full but the internal memory was not. I had to plug it out in order to install to the internal memory.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Nintendo Switch Pre-Order and Launch Day Plans?

Siskan

I believe I read somewhere that the internal memory (32GB) would only be used for saves if there was an SD card in it. Could someone then explain to me why anyone would buy a 16GB card as that would pretty much downgrade the storage (assuming save data won't surpass 16GB). Even 32GB would seem mostly pointless.
