Re: The Club Nintendo Rewards for October Have Been Confirmed

SahashraLA

And yes, @MisterOrlando , you can definitely spend your coins on Wii content. You just need to use Wii mode to access the shop and the game.
Smash 64, Ocarina, Paper Mario and other great N64 VC is only accessible this way (as well as Turbographx, Arcade, NeoGeo, Genesis / MD, Wiiware, Wii disc games and lots of other content).

Re: The Club Nintendo Rewards for October Have Been Confirmed

SahashraLA

@sinalefa
All over Kirby!
Maboshi's is a pretty decent puzzler, though Star Tropics is considerably better than it's sequel.
And hey, here's a thought: instead of discounting a Castlevania game that everyone's likely tried of beaten, why not do something game changing for Halloween?
Like, I don't know, announce Fatal Frame V for North America and a release date for the movie?
I think Guillermo del Toro would be a fantastic director.
Or James Wan (who hasn't had a productive Halloween season in almost a decade now).

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th October (Europe)

SahashraLA

I'm starting to wonder if this will be the discount period Frozenbyte finally reveals Trine Redux's release date.
Apparently, they're making during a sale on Trine 2 and want to release it in November. Now would be a good time.
As far as I know, nothing is currently planned for November 4, 6 / 7th on Wii U, so having Trine drop then would be smart.
Knowing indie devs, Tengami or Pier Solar HD would come out the same day and force me to choose..

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th October (Europe)

SahashraLA

DKC for certain.
Even in NA where 4 eShop indies are out, I have zero interest in any of them.
I've already played the rather obnoxious Ballpoint Universe, done with stiff platformers (coughPaperMonsterscough) and there is no way that Byrne has added near enough content to justify paying 15$ for Lone Survivor.
It's, well it's junk.
People that liked junk like SlenderMan will probably enjoy it for 10 minutes, but it's just so high and mighty.
It tries to be this wonderfully challenging, existential experience when really, it's no deeper than Ping.
A neat idea, it just doesn't pull it off.

Re: Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II

SahashraLA

@Rarewarefan7495
Wow. Saying Super Mario Sunshine is terrible lost my attention for the rest of your post.
Sunshine is a pretty underrated game and contains something many Mario games lack: innovation and a story.
Mario 64 had TERRIBLE analog controls.
TERRIBLE camera controls.
Sunshine fixed alot of 64's issues, things that the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia prevents a ton of people from noticing.
3D Mario has taken a fairly similar track, but with Fludd, at least things felt fresh.
Like Wind Waker, people will eventually respect it.
And for the record, aside from Galaxy 2, Mario doesn't do sequels. Or are you thinking of Rare again? Your user name makes it obvious.

Re: Rare Donkey Kong Delights to Grace the Wii U and 3DS

SahashraLA

Had no one else heard..?
The titles were taken down prior to the Wii U's release for a reason.
Nintendo has ONE console license with Rare's first party VC titles (DK is a Nintendo property after all) and it's a license that must be renewed and contracted much more often because of Microsoft's involvement.
If the game were available for the Wii AND the Wii U, Nintendo would have to sign a new contract.
Obviously, Nintendo has gotten desperate enough to sign that new deal.
Now if only Square Enix would consider a similar deal (remember though, many of the SNES games have already been licensed for PSN by Sony, so Nintendo may only have access to the Enix games. Then again, amalgamated companies always have weird little rules about how their content is licensed and distributed..)

Re: Review: Castlevania: Dracula X (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

SahashraLA

Considering how many CVs are out there, this doesn't even rank top 10 for me. That's right. Not even top 10.
IV. SotN. CotM. AoS. III. I. Rebirth. Dawn of Sorrow. Despair. Rondo of Blood. Dissonance. LoI (3D, but plays like a 2D game..). II (GB). Lords. Dracula X. 64. Ecclessia. Judgment. Lords 2.
Portrait of Ruin jumps around ALOT.
While every other game may change 3-5 positions depending on my mood or aptitude at the time, PoR has been as high as 4th and as low as 12th.
Ecclessia has been frustrating me with the hitboxes and slight latency, so it's in the doghouse right now.
I love these games and this series.
Hated the 18 minutes I played of Mirror of Fate. Lords of Shadows was nice if nothing more than God of War with a Castlevania skinning. And Lords 2 was atrocious.
Even worse than Judgment.
Almost as poorly designed as 64 (but 64 gets nostalgia points for it's introduction to 3D).
The review is more than fair. This game is a 3 or 4.
There's better options.
As a port, this is a big step back.
As a Castlevania game, it's a poor representative of the series.
But it's still playable, memorable and can be fun.
It's just not that great.

Re: Video: Let's Play Mario Kart 8 With Lydia

SahashraLA

Aside from game devs on Nintendo Life, EVERYONE on this site is a nobody.
Who are you to complain about her level of fame?
I'm personally a little tired of all these basement devs in videos, looking like they have never groomed and rarely shower.
Professionalism goes a long ways.
She's easy on the eyes and a nice change from the usual t-shirt clad, Mountain Dew soaked, Dorito speckled man child.

Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 10th October

SahashraLA

As an aside, the 3DS is mentioned in the first game,so it's not click bait. These are the latest developments in the crowdfunding arena.
Each installment has the same title, just with a different subtext (in this case, October).
Even if no 3DS games are included, the title would go unchanged.
This way, Nintendolife doesn't have to create two seperate KS articles.
What the lack of 3DS suggests is, despite a much higher install base, the Wii U is still preferred by the Kickstarted community, due to better, more manageable specs, a more PC architecture and cheaper dev kit.
Unity helps and so does the Web Framework.

Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 10th October

SahashraLA

Aegis Defenders reminds me alot of Nausicaa, I wonder why..
Aside from HNL, everything else looks right up my alley.
Warlocks, looking like a darker take on Child of Light, is probably at the top of my list.
Animal Gods looks cool, Blossom Tales would be fun (seems to have hit a snag), Impact Winter seems like a pretty deep experience (the title / logo art is quite beautiful in it's simplicity and suggestiveness) and Ray's? What can I say? Like a love letter to Gilbert's odysseys of yesteryear.
I do have to say, to HNL's credit, that bit of painterly art is quite beautiful.
Maybe an interactive motion comic is in their future.
I could see her saving me and being quite alright with that..

Re: Bayonetta 2 Demo Now Live In The European Wii U eShop

SahashraLA

Anyone on the fence about buying should try the demo. At less than 5 percent of the final download's size (a rather miniscule 700 or so MB), and the final version including both the first and second titles for less than MK8, it's hard to justify not playing it once.
For those complaining about the non-stop action, well.. it's Bayonetta. But there is more diversity in the final game. Screenshots have shown that.

Re: Bayonetta 2 Demo Now Live In The European Wii U eShop

SahashraLA

Demo confirmed what I already suspected: touch controls are a bit useless, but with classic input, this is another day one purchase for me.
Plays fast and smooth, Bayonetta is as lithe and sexual as ever and Jeanne's return was beautiful. Decent variety of gameplay with a rather compelling twist at the end. The ranks and medals give even the demo replay value and the final attack leaves little to the imagination.
If this leaves any doubt that Platinum has as much freedom with Nintendo, I'd be surprised. She's back and will be better than ever.

Re: Capcom Won't Greenlight Sequels If A Game Doesn't Sell Over Two Million Copies

SahashraLA

I'll say it straight up.
I bought Darkstalkers / Night Warriors for Morrigan and Felicia.
Capcom's art team from the 90s was GOLD. Throw in Rose, Cammy, Chun Li, Sakura, Roll and the girl from Final Fight (can't be bothered to check now) and you've got a nice, diverse cast.
But holy cow Capcom, you're surprised Sony gamers didn't like 2D fighters, especially tech fighters like Darkstalkers? Look at the D-pad!!
Put Darkstalkers on the Wii U or 3DS, with, you know, a PROPER D-pad and see how it plays.
Dualshocks are decent controllers and 3D gaming is pretty good with them, but even Microsoft knows you need to connect those dots.
What a useless gift I got.. Blazblue and SFA3 for my PSP.
Almost unplayable.
Ys Seven on the other hand? Oath in Felghana, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Dissidia FF / 012, KH: Birth by Sleep, Lunar and Star Ocean are all great on the PSP. Fighters (especially 2D) are HORRIBLE.
Code of Princess, SFIV, Blazblue.. great games for the 3DS.
Even Alpha 2 on the VC controls better than those PSP fighters.
Resurrection was, honestly, a HUGE step down from Darkstalkers 3.
Ah well, at least I still have Tatsunoko vs Capcom (Tatsunoko vs Capcom vs SNK would be the ultimate though).
Why doesn't Capcom do 'Capcom VS Allstars and pull from all the versus series'?? THAT would sell.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th October (North America)

SahashraLA

Complaining about any of the GBA Castlevania trilogy is, in my mind, a clear cut sign the complainer hasn't played the GBA Castlevania trilogy.
Better than either SNES Castlevanias and better than the first two NES entries as well (3 is still the best in the series, as far as I'm concerned).

Re: Shantae and the Pirate's Curse Finally Shakes its Release Delay Hex

SahashraLA

Wayforward has engineered two of my top ten eShop titles (Ducktales at #8, Mighty Switch Force HD at #10) and the Wii U version is day one for me.
So would the 3DS version.. if I still had a 3DS anyways.
Their Gameboy Color title was one of my top 5 games on that handheld and Shantae is way better than their licensed content. Even at 20$ it's a worthwhile purchase (maybe trying to augment sales lost by the Wii U version (24.99$ is an early rumor, and 5$ off with cross buy, but again.. rumor).

Re: Turns Out The GameCube Controller Adapter Won't Be Compatible With Other Wii U Software

SahashraLA

@megamanlink
Wow. Just wow.
How does 'does not work with other Wii U software' read 'plays Wii U VC games'??
It sounds like this control option works with JUST Smash right now and they'll make games compatible in the future.
Maybe they'll patch MK8 with support.
Who knows.
I still don't know how you got what you got from that post..
Oh and if YOU hadn't been so lazy and checked Nintendo's site after getting the info, you would have seen this was no fault of Nintendolife.
In fact, other sites had reported the info too.
So get off your high horses and settle down.

Re: Turns Out The GameCube Controller Adapter Won't Be Compatible With Other Wii U Software

SahashraLA

Then why sell either seperately?
It seems like a waste.
Nintendo just dropped the ball.
Again.
But hey, after the Wii U's processor, storage options, the Wii in general, motion controls, bringing 'casual' gaming to consoles, Amiibo, 'New' 3DS, the first 3DS price point, 3rd party software since the N64, Virtual Console, account systems, cross buy, marketing, advertising and promotions are all complete failures, why stop there?
This is what Nintendo knows best.

Re: This Castlevania Super NES May Be The Spookiest Console Yet

SahashraLA

Best SNES mod I've seen yet, including the one this local guy did. Two pieces of clear plasticy stuff (the texture reminded me of skate board wheels, aka, urethane), resoldered and reworked electronics board. Tinted black with white LED detail buttons.
I'll try and get him to send me a pic to post, but he cut the pieces himself so it looks really unique. As in, mass manufacturing would be almost impossible.
Best descriptor: a slimmer, smaller 3DO Goldstar.
With a matching controller and custom cut buttons (again, the same plasticy stuff, tinted black, with purple LED detail buttons and D-pad).
It's the only SNES I've seen that stands horizontally by default.

Re: Nintendo Confirms GameCube Controller Adapter Will Have More Use Than Just Super Smash Bros.

SahashraLA

OoT, N64 VC? Sounds good.
NFS:MWU with analog triggers? Even better.
For racing, the digital triggers is a terrible idea.
It'd be like trying to control Super Mario 64 with a D-pad.
Not the I play many racers, but not playing with analog triggers makes it pretty much unbearable.
If only the guys that do the custom, mappable XB One / PS3 / 360 / PS4 controllers did a Wii U Pro with analog triggers.
Then again, what makes an analog and digital trigger compatible or even interchangeable?
As an aside, Nintendo should start moulding the 3DS' analog stick as a single piece.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Release Dates Confirmed

SahashraLA

December 5th and just 40$. This is good news.
I was hoping for a Game & Wario price point and there you have it. 2 months Toad! Wait for us!
In the meantime, Bayonetta 1, 2, Pier Solar HD, Ballpoint Universe, Art of Balance, Tengami, the Swapper and others will arrive to keep me busy. Good time of the year to game. I'll take quality over quantity any day.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Release Dates Confirmed

SahashraLA

@rjejr has made a very valid point as well.
With Toad releasing in NA in December, NoA is basically making NA gamers late bug testers to keep Toad free for bigger sales. Because let's be honest, the little guy wouldn't have much chance against Smash (though, he's the one I'm going for).

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Release Dates Confirmed

SahashraLA

Japan got Smash 3DS early and Japan doesn't do consoles, so the 6th makes sense.
Europe got Hyrule Warriors early, so getting Smash later makes sense too.
If one region was seen as favorited, it would cause nasty backlash.
So, it makes sense.
One region gets tons of games for the MK8 offer and early Hyrule Warriors, the other gets early Smash.
Gotta get it in before the US' biggest shopping day after all.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th October (Europe)

SahashraLA

@datamonkey
You think they care?
Nintendo doesn't sell hardware with downloadable games.
They could have cross buy with every VC game and it wouldn't sell a single Wii U.
So they don't care if you buy the VC stuff.
Oh and for the record, let your PS3 break.
Try and get another PS3 registered.
You do know you can have just one of each system active on your account at a time, right? And to activate a new one, you need to go onto the old one and deactivate it, right? And if you can't turn it on, Sony will likely refuse to help, right?
Sony is just as bad as Nintendo.
But hey, when my Wii U Gamepad stopped working and they replaced it, the e-mail I got from CS was:
'if the need to replace your existing Wii U console should potentially arise, we will gladly assist you in activating the system for you, so that you may redownload your existing library of games.'
As in, they would do that for me, rather than expecting I do that for myself.
So, in reality, the policies are EXACTLY the same.
Apple, on the other hand, has a great policy regarding registered units. So you can use a greater variety and combination of devices, rather than one Wii U, or one PS3.
With Apple you could have 3 phones and a PC with the same content. Or 4 PCs and an iPad. If Sony allowed, say, two PSPs and two PS3s, maybe I'd understand. As it stands, you should probably not talk with your mouth open.
You're obviously still chewing on that.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th October (Europe)

SahashraLA

Guacamelee is pretty much a steal at that price, worth a shot if anyone hasn't yet.
Aside from that, yeah, bad week.
Unless you live in North America, that is.
I can't even imagine how stacked the next 3 weeks are going to be on the eShop over here..

Re: Tengami Wii U eShop Release Expected Next Month

SahashraLA

It sounds close. As in, could release next week close.
As it stands, the game will likely head out the last week of October in NA and a week later in Euro territories.
Just based on what I've been seeing from indies.
The submission for certification was the middle of September.
Pier Solar, despite being out on Sony platforms, Steam and Ouya, will likely miss an October release as well. Though both are all but confirmed for early November at the latest.
And thank god. I mean, at this point, I almost couldn't care less.

Re: Nintendo 64x64: GoldenEye 007

SahashraLA

A solid 6 for me, then again, outside XIII (graphic style, presentation) and Stranger's Wrath, I never cared for FPS.
3rd person has always been my preference, then again, I hate how cheesy FPS get when trying to make you feel immersed.
Don't get me wrong, I've played the CODs, MoHs, Battlefields, Crysis', Bioshocks, 007s, Halos, Quakes, Dooms, Wolfensteins, Unreals.. Hundreds of FPS, really. From that one Xmen FPS and Kiss' Psycho Circus to Half Life 2 and Metro Last Light and so many in-between, I've trudged through a country of fox holes, lobbed tens of thousands of grenades and crashed an automotive plant worth of vehicles.
It's not appealing. The experience is short and rather grating.
I've never finished a FPS. Not a single one. There's just not enough draw to keep going. Not even XIII or Stranger's Wrath.

Re: Nintendo 64x64: GoldenEye 007

SahashraLA

The only reason half of the N64's owners preferred Nintendo's multiplayer to Sony's. The other half were Smash / MK / WCW fans (those ones were the genres' glory days).
Outside of multiplayer though, I found the single player experience lacking, the graphics subpar, the story far too linear, the analog stick overly sensitive and the aiming to be a bit of a spotty affair.
Then again, 3D gaming was infantile at best (and would be until OoT lit the stage a year later) and I would still spend hours with teaching the girls to play pool while the other guys played Goldeneye on the projector.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2014 - Fall Edition

SahashraLA

Funny thing, @darthllama..
Sequels, yearly rehashes and book tie-ins (the Shadow of Mordor thing is tired. Like, 98 year old man in a coma tired. 3 3 hour Lord of the Rings movies. 3 3 hour Hobbit movies. 6 books, dozens of companion books. Dozens of games.
Why anyone cares about Shadow of Mordor is beyond me. Peter Jackson has been beating Tolkien's legacy to death of late.)
Aside from the Evil Within, Mikami's answer to Resident Evil (which is basically what Inafune did with Mighty No. 9 and MM), nothing is truly outstanding.
Bloodborne maybe.
KH3? Sure.
FF has been dead for years.
Unless you like watching cut scene movies.
NHL / NBA / FIFA is retreaded and reskinned so often, I lose track of how many of these useless updates are even out there.
Last of Us, GTA V, Halo remakes?
Following last gens' GoW, FF, KH, Half Life remakes or reissues?
Gaming is growing. True.
But it's like American growth, it's just getting fat.
There's alot of useless crap that could be easily trimmed. But that won't happen.
DA3 shouldn't be anticipated by anyone. Not after the mess they called DA2.
How you think all that is worth purchasing.. it blows my mind.
Metal Gear through Snake Eater was gold.
4, Revengeance and the extended demo were trash.
If Konami does manage greatness, I'd be shocked.
Then again, I played Lords of Shadow 2, so really anything could be great in comparison.
If MGSV is incredible, it's because it has to be. Konami NEEDS to release a good game. Or have you forgotten RE 5 and 6? I've tried to forget them. It's impossible. The mental scars ran deep.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2014 - Fall Edition

SahashraLA

Hey look, an N64 reference!
For argument's sake, the N64 had 2 launch games and just 8 games it's first Xmas. The Saturn was already dead to most consumers (DOA in the west really) with just Sony to compete with.
In fact, there wasn't any real competition from anyone but Sony until the Dreamcast and look how long that lasted.
Comparing an 16 year difference in sales and releases is kind of ill-advised.
Rare did Goldeneye. And Banjo Kazooie. Two HUGE games for Nintendo in 97 and 98.
In comparison to Nintendo's past efforts, the Wii U is right in line as far as 1st party releases are concerned. The only reason things 'look terrible' is due to a lack of 3rd party support.
And to be honest, that's not something that is ever going to change with the Wii U. Nintendo is far too isolated from 'traditional' 3rd parties for those 3rd parties to care.
The Japanese devs that once embraced Nintendo (Square / Enix / Square Enix, Natsume, Atlus, KT, Capcom, Konami and others) have long since sidled up beside Sony and the influx of loli, anime, harem, rehashes and special editions hasn't exactly helped Japan's rep.
In fact, with games like GTA, COD, AC and the Batman Arkham games, Japan's succeeded by appealing to the lowest common denominator.
What Nintendo doesn't have is an audience for the mastubatory nature of 'adult' gaming, the overtly violent natureof 'mature' gaming or the online experience to pull off 'massive' gaming.
They try their hands at different arenas, try on different hats but in the end, the argument is circular. Nintendo tried making another 'traditional' gaming machine, rather than what 3rd party devs really wanted: little to no challenge.
Why work when you can print money?
Why build something unique when you can build an econo PC?
Why create when you can copy?
Why sell new games like Splatoon, Toad's Treasure Tracker or Art Academy when you can pander to those million or so die hard gamers that just want the next F Zero, Metroid or Fire Emblem?
It's about time for this company to stop trying to please everyone and do what they know how to do. All this fan service, syrupy sweet garbage is sickening.
Forget what we think works. Frankly, no one on this page has a clue. Myself included.
You, Nintendo, have the resources and team necessary to turn this page. So stop hesitating. Stop wasting money on useless things. And start playing to win. You're not here to compete with Sony and Microsoft's hardware specs or install bases. You're here to compete with each game, every accessory and each media outlet. Make your games your way. Tell everyone about it. Make people listen and tell the haters where to go on the way.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2014 - Fall Edition

SahashraLA

Quiet on the retail side..?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aside from MK8 and Hyrule Warriors, exactly how many full retail titles have hit the Wii U since DKC in February?
I count 8 (SSB, Toad, Watch Dogs, Sonic, Just Dance, Bayo 2, Batman 3, the Voice) for the last 3 months of the year.
Not to mention games like Pier Solar, Tengami, Stealth 2, Ballpoint Universe, Art of Balance, Alphadia Genesis, Costume Quest 2, the Swapper and a host of great VC titles (Konami and Capcom still have alot of great games due for release this year).
Personally, considering how long the Wii U has been out and how few units it's actually shifted, I'm more surprised than anything six 3rd party titles are even being released. It's more than the system deserves, to be blunt.

Re: Nintendo UK Teams Up with Petits Filous Frubes

SahashraLA

Mario and Luigi, vanilla?
Hitting the nail on the head.
I love the Mario platformers, but games with real diversity (Sunshine and Mansion) leave me with a real sense of adventure.
More like creamy caramel in those few cases, and I usually don't like caramel.
When all you get is vanilla, a change is nice.
There is room for neopolitan on the menu!

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details on the Third Week of its Super Smashing Sale on the NA eShop

SahashraLA

Naturally, the drive would be to get the annual 3rd party titles as well, but I think Nintendo would do well to fire back at EA, and maybe as soon as E3.
Something like..
'Hi, I'm Reggie Fils-Amie, here to share our latest systems.
Combining the portability of the 3DS with the second screen innovation of the Wii U, this is the most capable hardware we've yet created. Fully backward compatible with BOTH the Wii U and the 3DS, this is, in my opinion, the most powerful and versatile console on the market today.
Combining our talents with Matsushita and AMD, this is the result of hours conferencing with respected developers, like Atlus, Capcom, 2K, From Software and others.
And no, it won't feature Electronics Arts games on it. What is best for Nintendo, what is best for business is not to allow EA services on our hardware. As a result, we've come into a partnership with 2K, to bring the full catalog of 2K software to this system. Not only that, but this is now the exclusive home of NCAA sports, NBA basketball (2K purchases the NBA rights, similar to EA's contract with the NFL) as well as the exclusive home to 2K NHL hockey.'
Then some stuff about 32 player MK8, videos, demos and a price range of 500-600$.
Fully compatible with all Wii / Wii U controllers (including the Gamepad) and can use 3DS as a controller for all Wii U games.
No DS / Wii backwards compatibility.
Expanded media services: Amazon Prime, Crackle, Crunchyroll, Funimation, WWE, NHL Gamecentre, NFL Sunday Ticket.
And increased features set for Netflix, Hulu and Youtube.
Flash, Java, MP3, MP4, M4A, WMV, WMA and H.264 browser /media support.
Wireless and 10/100/1000 connector.
Stronger account based system.
Better Club Nintendo integration and more consumer input.
Finally an upgrade to customize the music, layout, and search options on current eShop.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Details on the Third Week of its Super Smashing Sale on the NA eShop

SahashraLA

I know Soni's still to be featured, but I was digging around old sales info, trying to figure out where the Wii U sits, in comparison to the last two Sega consoles.
See, the Dreamcast had a VERY staggered release in Japan, going almost 2 and a half years before cancellation, with North America taking a year longer to debut with the same cancellation date. Worldwide sales: 10.6 million. Better than Wii U, but imagine if the Wii U had less competition and another year in Japan.
Versus the Saturn, well, let's just say the Wii U could do MUCH worse.
Over 3 and half years in the West and over 6 years in Japan and the console still failed to break the 10 million mark.
Side scrolling games, while still enjoyed, weren't exactly seen favorably, with the industry pushing 3D to the forefront and many 2D efforts were chided for their 'lack of immersion'. Games like Doom, Hexen, Half-Life, Quake, Unreal Tournament and other 'early' FPS' were still given the lion's share of the mainstream media's press coverage. Goldeneye on the N64 had been seen as Nintendo's answer to those critics. And Sega was 'stunning' with their near flawless arcade ports (Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter 2 / 3, Soul Calibur, House of the Dead).
The Wii U is in the middle of an unprecedented arms race, one where a computer company like Microsoft and an entertainment company like Sony are trying to create interactive movies.
The last time this strategy was employed, it gave birth to the 3DO, a system of sorts that flopped massively.
But maybe, just maybe, that example could be a hint as to Nintendo's next evolution. Proprietary hardware components in a varied range of products. One could be portable, another with Blu-ray. One could be PC like and involve media and TV. Another could be simplistic and used entirely for gaming.
Again, my idea is the HDS, or Nintendo Fusion.
4 core, 1GB GPU, 2 GB RAM handheld. 3DS backward compatible.
8 core, 2GB GPU, 6GB RAM basestation. Wii U backwards compatible.
Together, they could combine resources to play PS4 / PCquality software.
Keeping the eShop means the system starts with a previously established library and older games would load faster, play smoother and look better.
4 USB 3.0 slots, optical out, SDHC compatibility, 500 GB HDD (base) 32 GB storage (handheld).
Launch titles:
Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Mario Fusion (2D and 3D), Legends of Bioshock (3 pack), Metroid Fusion EX (Metroid Fusion remake with HD graphics and fully orchestrated music, as well as expanded gameplay and increased animations), NHL2K (system exclusive), Konami: Rebirth 2 (the Rebirth series gets sequels in the vein of Contra Shattered Soldier), Wave Race: Dark Waters (faster, more locations, online), Viewtiful Joe HD collection, Shinji Mikami Presents: The Last Haunting, Beauty/Decay (Mistwalker game with Yoshitaka Amano spritework), Sin and Punishment: Star Revenger, Darksiders 3 and Zombi2 (think Zombi U, over the whole of the UK, with tens of thousands of zombies, dozens of melee weapons and firearms, 5 -8 well developed characters to play as and a night / day cycle).
So 13 full retail titles and let's say, a promise of 20-30 additional VC titles the first month.
I don't even see Nintendo's next system using Blu-ray. Maybe something different. Like my prototype: Lite-ray. A proprietary drive that uses specialty 75 GB discs.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced

SahashraLA

I've been looking to get a new 3DS since my old one kicked the bucket (drop effect..), but that second circle pad has been reconsidering that idea. I like the idea of the additional shoulder buttons and better screens (Xenoblade Chronicles sounds like a dream) in fact it's reminiscent of my HDS proposal I sent in this year to Nintendo.
HDS: a quad core, 1GB video, 4GB RAM handheld controller that could play 3DS / DS games on its own or connect to an 8 core, 2GB video, 8GB RAM base station to play PS4 quality titles. Alone, the base could play Wii / Wii U titles, using existing Wiimotes, Gamepads, or Pro Controllers.
Both systems would have built in storage (16GB and 500GB, respectively) and would continue use of the existing eShops.

Re: New Wii U and 2DS Bundles Announced, Rolling Out in North America this Fall

SahashraLA

I've been really enjoying the box art for these bundles. It seems very smart to advertise the games and their artwork, rather than their atmosphere. Honestly, I was frustrated by the bundle art for alot of recent Xbox One bundles. Titanfall and Destiny both seem to hearken back to MW3's bundle art and that doesn't inspire much buying confidence, at least in my opinion.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Two More Virtual Console Titles Coming in the Next Week

The N64 has alot of great games.. if you're into niche gaming. The Mario sports series didn't explode until the GC, there was no Metroid, alot of 3rd party games still skipped out and the controller put alot of people out (It is, in my opinion, the worst Nintendo has made, despite ergonomic improvements over both the NES and SNES).
Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Pilotwings 64 (all 4 have received remakes and re-releases, some on multiple systems), Paper Mario, Ogre Battle 64 (rare), Sin and Punishment (rare), Yoshi's story, Super Smash Bros. (my favorite in the series by a mile), Majora's Mask, Mario Kart 64, Kirby: Crystal Shards, Mario Party 1-3, Goemon 64 (rare) and DK 64 are probably the most beloved.
There were some other fantastic titles too. I imported Evangelion 64 and it was grand. Vigilante 8, Resident Evil 2, Harvest Moon, Shadow Man, the first run of WWF games were fun and I was a sucker for Sub Zero's solo adventure in MK Mythologies.
Add in licenses from Mega Man, South Park, Tony Hawk and you had a genre defying library of games.
Despite it's shortcomings, the system's games made it memorable, even if for every Ocarina we got a Superman 64. Mace: the Dark Age was my guilty pleasure, a fact I revelled in while my friends enjoyed MK4.

Re: The Last of Us Fails to Overtake Yokai Watch 2, 3DS and Wii U Sales Fall

Hilarious, as once again, the focus is on Nintendo's hardware failures, exclusive to other systems, rather than put into perspective.
PS3 dropped over 55% this week! So much so that PS4 actually outsold it's predecessor.
And both are still lower than the Wii U.
Instead of positivity (Wii U, riding Hyrule Warriors' momentum, continues to lead home console sales, despite two top five releases for the PS4) it's negativity (Hardware sales for (sic) the previous week are more worrying).
Worrying because Hyrule Warriors needs to sell more systems, worrying because Hyrule Warriors is the first Wii U retail game in Japan since MK8 or worrying because everyone is doing poorly?
Commentary on these articles is becoming rather sensational.
For the record, 10k systems sold in Japan is equivalent to 100k in North America. So selling 28k systems in two weeks off the back of yet another Dynasty Warriors spin off is 'worrying'?

Re: Video: This Moody Trailer for The Fall Sets The Scene

The voice acting is well done, the dark atmospherics enhance the rather potent air of desperation and the controls are a nice mix of Metroid and point and click.
Truly, this is a point and click game for a new generation.
Combine the unique premise with rather engaging combat and it all makes for a standout title.
One of the eShop's best and a must buy.

Re: Talking Point: A History of the Sexualisation of Samus

SahashraLA

All I'm hearing is..
'blah blah blah gender roles blah blah objectification of women blah blah sexualized blah blah patriarchy blah blah oppression blah blah disrespectful.'
It's really just the SOS. It's just a different pile of it.
Again I say, as a man that lives in Canada that watches as his streets are overrun with women (aged 14-30, aka, the predominant GAMING audience) wearing Lululemon and other types of skin tight yoga pants, WOMEN ARE SEXUAL.
But if you were wearing a hundred pound space suit, you wouldn't be wearing a t-shirt and jeans under either. Men make huge.. no, MASSIVE issues out of the sexuality of a woman's dress attire when really, we're just blah blahing away our own personal preference and opinion.
You ever see a woman breastfeeding in public?
I've got an 11 month old son, I see it all the time. Our friends breastfeed their children. Is it a sexual thing? No, it's not.
Is the female body a sexual thing? It can be, yes. Is a fat Samus realistic? No. Is a trim, athletic Samus unrealistic? No. The proportions are off, but I know thin women with large breasts. Are Samus' proportions exaggerated? Of course, but it's a video game, not an interactive movie.
The new Tomb Raider? Interactive movie with a realistic Lara Croft, attempting to distance herself from a dozen titles where her breasts were enormous. It wasn't even a gradual change. And Lara STILL has a larger than average bust. In addition, that game features overtly sexual content, content that has never been present in Metroid.
This is the Dragon's Crown bs all over again. It's never about sexual actions or behaviour with Nintendo fans or even the company themselves. It's about appearances.
It's embarrassing to know that Japan can be so closedminded in somethings and yet light years ahead of western culture in sexuality and body image.
We're an insecure bunch of neanderthals that judge people by a glance, DESTROY our homeless, and hide in our homes in rags so we don't see a nipple or hear words like 'penis', 'vagina' or 'intercourse'.
For a society that revels in the pornographic industry, turning it into a billion dollar business, we sure do spend alot of times shaming ourselves and others.
Samus. Is not. A Real Living Person.
She's property of Nintendo. IT is property of Nintendo. Like Bravely Default, she be dressed however the designers want to dress her.
Just because OUR society flaunts half naked women everywhere (real and celebrity) means our media can't and shouldn't reflect that.
Ironic, coming from a European website, and it's multitude of European readers. Ironic, but so very much a United Kingdom point of view. The LEAST European country, trying to stand for it's own country is laughable. Spain, Portugal, Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, Greece, Milan and so many others have great history AND an eye on the future. The UK is being left behind. In EVERYTHING.
Now, now I finally see why. This 'issue' is a glimpse into the entire country's mindset. Sex isn't something to be hushed, it's something to be celebrated, to be enjoyed. It's how each and everyone of us got here, so why does everyone cower behind their political correctness like Nintendo gamers, gamers in general, people as a whole aren't sexual beings.
It is the only thing in our incredibly short and often wasted lives that seperates us from the beasts: our desire for physical, sexual intimacy.
Hate it all you want, lie and say you've never felt that way. But don't take your prejudices out on some insignificant speck like a video game.
Have some tact and do so in a venue that makes sense.

Re: BLOK DROP X TWISTED FUSION Coming To The Wii U eShop Soon

SahashraLA

NOTE: The following is compiled from Wikipedia records and deals with North American dates only.
Including retail and indie titles and NOT VC titles, 112 titles are slated for release in 2014. 99 other titles currently have release dates of January 1st or later.
Current estimations are that 50-65% of the 112 titles slated for release this calendar year will be delayed into 2015, with just 35-40% of all later titles prone to delay.
Which basically means that, outside of the Virtual Console, the Wii U will receive 40-100 pieces of unique software this year and 30-100 titles in 2015.
After analyzing each piece of software, I predict the Wii U will still receive 62 pieces of software this calendar year and an additional 145 pieces of software during calendar year 2015. Which stands to reason that 4 pieces of the currently discussed software will be delayed until 2016.

@Faruko
Blame Nintendo for the start..?
Why not blame Ubisoft for the lacklustre ZombiU, horrible Rabbids and god awful Just Dance? Why not blame EA for releasing Mass Effect Trilogy 4 months after the Wii U released (and on every other system), NFL and their gimped physics and online modes, FIFA for a 12 month old reskin (for full price)?
I don't blame Activision. Despite how I feel about it, they gave their series two entries to find success. That one's on Nintendo.
I also don't blame Ubisoft for AC selling like garbage on Wii U. Another on Nintendo.
EA QUIT without raising a single finger.
They dropped Nintendo BEFORE launch day.
So don't sit there and defend a company that likely almost killed itself when Microsoft repealed the DRM centered always online aspect of the XB1..
The others, sure, they've got just cause. EA? They've never had an excuse.
The entire company seems very biased towards PC platforms and parity across the board. I guarantee they're putting less effort into these 'games' (cheap ports) than you or I put into our comments.
Not worth the paper or plastic they're printed on.
Bioware made a great game in ME3. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just too bad they let EA neuter them in the process.

Re: Fifa 15 Coming to Wii and 3DS on the 26th of September

Why is this on Wii? It's another retread of FIFA 12, the last time EA changed anything in the Wii version.
I can already buy the HD version of that game, it's called FIFA 13 and it's on the Wii U.
Sports can be fun and entertaining. Their games can be too.
But who thinks spending 60-70$ / year on the same game sounds like a good idea?
The rosters are generally outdated by the season's start, so most of the 'changes' prove pointless.
