Re: Feature: SNES-Style RPG Hazelnut Bastille Coming To Switch With Secret of Mana Composer In Tow

Rutana

I don't wanna judge before I saw more of the game or played it.
But right now I lean faaar out of the window and claim that this is an Adventure and the creators themselves don't seem to know what Metroidvania and RPGs are...
Why is everyone afraid to call an Adventure game an Adventure game? Why do they have to say Metroidvania or RPG? Adventure is not a bad videogame Genre. It's not worse or inferior to RPGs or Metroidvania!

Re: Here’s Why Traditional Dungeons Got Axed in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Rutana

"We want to give the player absolut freedom of what he does!"
"We don't want that players can explore a large dungeon system and prefer to force him to spend hours on end on the overworld looking for shrines that repeat themselves because we ran out of ideas."

Seriously, shrines don't replace a dungeon, at all. They replace heart pieces that were always the reward for overworld exploration. And that would've been reward enough in BotW as well - Heart pieces and Stamina Pieces.

Re: Translation of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Japanese Ending Prompts Interesting Debate

Rutana

@marandahir You're right with Twilight Princess to Four Swords Adventures, here, Ganon (according to the Zelda Timeline) was actually reincarnated. And while you can debate long and for ever if the Four Sword games with their total lack of story should count, it's confirmed that way.
But in every other game, Ganon is Revived, also proven by the Zelda Timeline. Plus, Breath of the Wild takes place in the Adult Timeline, not Child Timeline - so it's unconnected to Twilight Princess and Four Swords Adventures.
Breath of the Wild further proves, that Calamity Ganon is a Ganon that doesn't want to reincarnate and instead sticks to Revival, just as the Decline Timeline's Ganon.
And yes, in Zelda II, Ganon's minions wanted to resurrect him with Link's blood, but that doesn't mean it's the only way to revive Ganon/dorf
(plus - it failed anyway unless you hit a Game Over screen what, to be fair, happens most of the time XD)

Re: Translation of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Japanese Ending Prompts Interesting Debate

Rutana

Resurrection and Reincarnation are two completely different things, so the versions don't really differentiate from another.
All 3 main characters of the Zelda franchise have different ways to reappear throughout the series.
Ganon revives
Link reincarnates
Zelda is a descendant

Ganon/dorf never changed. He's still the same person he was in OoT. He's either killed and revived, or sealed and freed.
Zelda is always a descendant to the previous Princesses and related by blood. It's stated over and over again, that her powers run in her bloodline and are inherited.
Link is never stated to be a descendant, in fact, there are times and times again where it's proven he's NOT related by blood to his previous versions. He reincarnates - same soul, different body.

It's even stated blatantly in Skyward Sword by Demise:
"My hate... never perishes. It is born anew in a cycle with no end! I will rise again!
Those like you... Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse.
An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!"

Not his mention of the Goddess's blood, the Hero's Spirit (/Soul) and that he only talks of "An incarnation" - meaning one.

So, with Ganon's refuse to Reincarnate and his stubbornness to be revived, meaning to not become a different person, it's not that far fetched that after all those centuries all what's left of him is his pure anger and madness.

Re: Nintendo Fixes the Left Joy-Con Problem with a Small Piece of Foam

Rutana

So far, I only encountered the issue while playing on the TV, which I rarely do - Tabletop Mode is my preferred way to play the Switch
And I only encounter it when I, while playing, hold my hand with the JoyCon (I play with the Joy Cons separated - so comfortable <3) too deep behind a blanket. Raising the hand from time to time completely fixes it, and it's simply a small inconvenience for me.
I can totally understand anyone who has more troubles with it though. For me, I want to buy colored Joy Cons someday anyway, so I wait till Nintendo ships out fixed Joy Cons and that'll fix the issue for me once and for all

Re: Nintendo Shuts Down Another Pokémon Fan Project

Rutana

@DarthNocturnal Yeah, difference is: Tobuse the Steam Workshop for creation or playing, you need to buy the base game. SEGA sells this game, so they make actually more money the bigger the workshop gets.
Nintendo sees nothing as it's a free-to-download rom hack.

Re: Nintendo Shuts Down Another Pokémon Fan Project

Rutana

I haven't read all comments, so sorry if someone wlse brought this up already, but there's another side to it:
Pokemon in particular has reached a new form of popularity and is a name known by basically everyone now thanks to Pokemon Go. Not everyone who played Go knows about the Pokemon main games.
They might search online and find the fan-project instead (this includes news media!) and might think it's the real deal.
Now there's a wide variety of things that could go wrong, from an overall lack of quality that puts the official games to shame up to mature content (maybe a joke, an easrer egg or even a part of the story), that could result in parents banning Pokemon for their kids up to media making a fuss about it with or without better knowledge (they may drop the word "fangame" in their report - but what sticks will be "new Pokemon game").

Sad as it is, I fully understand Nintendo.

Re: Former SNK Staffers Are Bringing A New Fighter To The SNES

Rutana

@DanteSolablood @nab1
This is a team of FORMER SNK staffers.
There's a very high chance that they don't have the rights to work on an SNK game, yet a remake of a title someone else will own the rights for. That's why they work on a new ip.
They're also not "wasting their time". If you have pleasure and passion doing something, it's not a waste of time. And if the result makes other people happy, it's more then worth their time.
SNES is still my favorite home console. I don't care what genre the game will have in the end - I'll buy it. Even if it's just to support the SNES and to show developers, that titles for the SNES are still bought!

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Isn't Physically Backwards Compatible With 3DS And Wii U Software

Rutana

@FX102A 4 gens of Nintendo Home Consoles without BC? But there are only 2 Nintendo Home Consoles without BC: the NES (duh), and the N64.
SNES had the Super GameBoy, GameCube had the GBA Adapter, the first Wii played GC titles and Wii U had Wii BC.

Overall, BC is not digital. It means that you can use your physical discs. And don't even start with Streaming... there are many gamers who don't have fast Internet.

Re: Weirdness: Desperation for NX Details Even Makes an Old Forum Post Interesting

Rutana

I suppose the date is in US format due to the timestamp being "PM", in europe, we use 24h format

I can fully understand and appreciate the lack of Information for the NX. Everytime Nintendo is innovative, they get copied fast: it began with the analog stick and controller vibration, both copied by Playstation very quickly, continued with Motion Controls (everybody laughed at the idea until the Wii was a success and Move and Kinect suddenly were a thing...) and even the WiiU Gamepad got copied! Think of GTA V and Fallout 4 - both support smart devices as an additional touchscreen interface!
And what happens now?
Nintendo keeps the NX as secret as possible and both Sony and Microsoft don't come out with a new console, only console upgrades... Makes you wonder why

Re: Niantic Is Dropping The Ban Hammer On Pokémon GO Players Who "Cheat"

Rutana

I have the problem, that my GPS is faulty. I don't know why, if it's my phone, the app, or that I live on the countryside, but most if the time, I'm constantly walking around in Pokemon Go, while I'm actually sitting in my house. My eggs got 1km, just from sitting. Heck, lately the app likes to place me next to a gym in the next bigger city - 25km away! (But not close enough to interact with it... <.< such a tease...)
I have no control over this, but I'm getting really worried about it, as I don't want to loose my Account to a bug...

Re: Witcher Studio Says Nintendo NX "Will Be Fantastic", Claims To "Know Things"

Rutana

@roboshort 1st Gameplay video I looked up for Fate shows a quest that rewards, suprise, Experience. Want another try?

And a Story Mode in a Sports Game is everything, but surely not an RPG. When it's about Game Genres, it's the gameplay mechanics that play the key role.
Modern shooter also have an Experience System, that's the "RPG Elements" that are often mentioned with these kinds of games. Doesn't make it an RPG though, as it doesn't boost the character directly.
For someone who loves western RPGs, like you do, it's surely buffeling, why JRPGs are called, well, "RPG", but that's because of your misconception about what defines an RPG, and it should be your biggest clue that "decision making" doesn't mean a damn when it comes to RPG. It's something you often find in RPGs, but it's not the defining factor.

Creating a Zelda-SpinOff in another Genre (for example Table Top RPG) is completely besides the point as well! And just think about it: What would be the biggest alteration to add? Right, Experience Points and Character Building.

And sure, definitions can be a crux when someone doesn't understand the definition. That's the same in language and in math.
But maybe, MAYBE, we should at least trust Nintendo themselves into which category they put their games?
Check out this Link:
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Search/Search-299117.html?q=&faf=GAME&gst=3ds_cartridge%7C3ds_digitaldistribution
Now go to "Categories" and choose "RPG". You know what you'll find? Tons and tons of games that all share one factor: Experience Points. Heck, even Sport-RPGs like Izuma Eleven are there. Know what you won't find? Any Zelda games!
Because when you search for "Zelda" (and keep in mind to uncheck "RPG", or the search result won't show any Zelda game), every single Zelda game is categorized under "Action, Adventure".
It's fine if you have your sight of view on what an RPG is - but it's undeniable, that Nintendo clearly doesn't see Zelda as an RPG. And I would argue that they with all their experience in gaming, know it better

Re: Witcher Studio Says Nintendo NX "Will Be Fantastic", Claims To "Know Things"

Rutana

@roboshort Decisions have nothing to do with the RPG genre. If that would be an important factor, Visual Novels, Ego Shooters, heck - even Sport Games would suddenly be RPGs.
And solving a Puzzle has nothing to do with character growth either.
Character growth means, that if you would remove all items and equipments at the end of the game, the character is still stronger as he/she was in the very beginning. That's the common factor every RPG has in common.
Zelda doesn't fit into that genre. If you remove all items, which includes Upgrades thus as Heart Containers, Link's as weak as he was at the very beginning. And except for Zelda II, the games never tried to be an RPG either. You will never hear Nintendo calling Zelda an RPG or see Zelda in their RPG categories, instead, you'll hear time and time again how Zelda is an "Adventure", that's what Zelda has been since the very beginning!

People often go over lengths to call Zelda an RPG because "you take the role of Link" or "you're roleplaying as Link", often in combination of "that's why you can name Link as yourself" (which btw is not possible in Breath of the Wild anymore), but that's just as wrong. By that definition, every game in 1st person would be an RPG. Or every game where you can name yourself - games like Art Academy would suddenly be an RPG, heck, every single game would suddenly ve an RPG.

Just take a minute and think of every RPG advertised as such, or officially categorized as such. Name me one without some form of EXP.

Re: Witcher Studio Says Nintendo NX "Will Be Fantastic", Claims To "Know Things"

Rutana

@roboshort No, that's exactly the point. Link never grows on his own, only through items. That's a characteristic for Adventure Games, not RPGs. In an RPG the character becomes stronger through experience, even if it means fighting the same monsters over and over again. In Zelda, no matter how many enemies you beat up, Link doesn't get stronger unless he gets a certain item.

Re: Video: Bayonetta 2 Is Just Too Darn Sexy, Even For Hormone-Addled Teens

Rutana

I think the portayal of Bayonetta is actually very positive. I always find it funny, when people complain about her being sexualized, yet at the same time they complain about the lack of female videogame heroes (another thing I can barely understand, when we have so many great female heroes in games...). Does she show her skin? Sure. But it's been explained why in the lore of the game, she's strong, self confident, witty, inteligent and indipendent - basically all the traits those people cry for.
As if she's worth less just because she has a great body and is not afraid to show it o.O

Re: Witcher Studio Says Nintendo NX "Will Be Fantastic", Claims To "Know Things"

Rutana

Ehm... it's not an RPG. Of any kind. Not an Action-RPG either. It's an Adventure game, or Action-Adventure to be exact.
The only two Zelda games that had RPG elements and could thus be called an RPG are Adventure of Link (also known as Zelda II) and Hyrule Warriors. All other Zelda games lack the most important, defining characteristic of an RPG: Experience Points!

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Fit Into the Zelda Timeline?

Rutana

@LordMolecule The Master Sword never left the "old" Hyrule.
Link and Tetra discovered "new" Hyrule, Spirit Track's Hyrule, but Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass never had the Master Sword Phantom Hourglass had the Phantom Sword and Spirit Tracks had the Lokomo Sword. Similar look, but definitely not the same sword

In other words, theory 1 places the game at "old" Hyrule after the sea dried up.

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Fit Into the Zelda Timeline?

Rutana

@NIN10DOXD He's not the Hero who rode on a Red Loftwing as told in Skyloft.
One, Demise is absolutely defeated in the Past - He didn't "sealed" him away, but defeated him. Huge difference, as it kinda changes what happened throughout the rest of the game (as he wouldn't be able to rise again in the future anymore). Also, he never flew the red Loftwing in the Past.
Second, this comes directly from the Hyrule Historia, or better, the extra Skyward Sword Manga at the end of the Book, which explores the story of said Hero. Yes, the Manga aren't canon, they're another way to tell the game's story. But they never changed the story completely.
In fact, the only person who knows of Links travel to the past and his battle with Demise and would be able to create the legend is Impa. But Impa never left the Shrine, she never visited Skyloft. She couldn't have told anyone about it

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Fit Into the Zelda Timeline?

Rutana

Ok, without checking out the other comments yet, here are my thoughts:

The game plays definitely after Ocarina of Time. Yes, Skyward Sword was a early guess of mine as well, the Art Style is only one reason though - the technology the other. Technology wasn't a big issue in any Zelda right now, despite it was an early idea for Zelda I, but the only other Zelda game that had advanced Technology so far, was Skyward Sword and it's Robots.
However, the landmarks speak against it. The Temple of Time, in that form as we saw it, wasn't created before Ocarina of Time. And it only fell into ruins afterwards (as seen as in OoT's Future and Twilight Princess), meaning that no matter what timeline the game takes place in, the Temple of Time's ruins clearly put it after OoT.

Does this exclude Skyward Sword though? Actually, no. Not really. You mentioned a 100year long sleep, now, I haven't checked out that much of Nintendo's e3 coverage - mostly because I don't want to see that much of the game yet (I want to explore it myself). If they said 100years, then my theory here makes no sense - but what if Link's cryo-sleep was another fail-safe plan of the goddess Hylia? The Sheikah already existed in Skyward Sword since ancient times. The technology looks extremely familiar with Skyward Swords technology - which then was actually kind of in the ruins already. Also, there's been a hero before Link who flew with a red Loftwing, what if this is said hero? Hylia put him in cryosleep to awake somewhere in the future, when he was needed to safe the world or bring the humans back to the surface? Now it's a far fetch, but it would explain the technology.

As to when the game takes part... well, Wolf Link would be a hint for after Twilight Princess, but I think that we might see the beginning of another Time Split.

Before WindWaker, the King of Hyrule used the Triforce to save Hyrule from Ganon's grasps when Link didn't showed up. What if in a different version, Hyrule wasn't put underwater, but was wiped clean and slowly recovered after Ganon was sealed or defeated in any other way? (Maybe through the Triforce?)
That would explain the ruins of the Temple of Time but, especially, Death Mountain in the distance. Because We only see Death Mountain like this in the Majoras Mask and WindWaker Timelines, while in the latter, the mountain already looks different again.

Re: Nintendo of Europe Unveils Over 40 Discounts for eShop 5 Year Anniversary Sale

Rutana

@Zanark Both games are completely different. In Ages, you travel between Past and Presence and in Seasons you can change the Seasons, both in order to solve a lot of puzzles. Each game leads you to different lands that are in danger of a different villain. In Ages, Nayru plays a key role and in Seasons you'll meet Din.
What connects the games, is that there's some evil force that ordered both attacks, and you'll face it once you beat both games (and connected them via Passwords)

Re: Harvest Moon: Skytree Village Is Ploughing A Furrow Towards The Nintendo 3DS

Rutana

Huh.... well... I might give them a second chance. Lost Valley had some nice ideas, but in the core, it was a really really bad game.
If they combine the plant breeding with better watering tools and an actual village to visit... (and SEASONS FROM THE START), it might be a game worthy of it's name.

@thehoppypoppy
Did you played on Seedling or on Normal? If you played on Normal, just try Seedling mode. Even in japan the players complained about it being to hard and slow, that's why they patched in Seedling Mode. We got both modes at once, which makes "Seedling" seem like the "easy" mode, when it's actually the normal difficulty and the "Normal" is the hard mode
I played on Normal, and yes, it's a bit slow - but I didn't found it too annoying. "Seedling" comes closer to the other "Harvest Moon" titles though, so it might give you a better feeling for the game.

Re: Popular Super Mario Maker Speedrunner and Streamer Has All His Levels Deleted by Nintendo

Rutana

Lesson: Don't use the word "Poo" for names. It's immature, stupid, gives the impression that you see yourself/your levels as, well, "sh*t" and in the worst case, it causes problems like these.
I'm not offended by words like these and I don't think it's something bad in itself, kids learn worse words in the Kindergarten anyway. Still, I can see why Nintendo reacted and they should handle a famous streamer exactly the same as any other player - no special treatment please.
This guy took the risk of loosing all his levels and he lost - no reason to whine afterwards about it, just because he's streaming. Heck, he probably profited more then lost, because thanks to the news reports, he got his name out

Re: Video: Paying Tribute To Secret Of Mana's Superlative Soundtrack

Rutana

Secret of Mana was my childhood. There's no game, not back then and not today, that impacted me on a personal level as much as Secret of Mana did.
My favorite song from the game has always been 'The Wish'. When I encountered the Crystal Forest for the first time, as a 10 year old, I was blown away and enchanted. The shimmering trees were one thing, but the music really brought this magical feeling home. It made me feel like I'm in this forest right now, surrounded by shimmering light in all colors of the rainbow, and by trees, that are so delicate, that they could easily break.
I had the fortune to play the game with two friends, both boys, and we never had to fight about where we would go to level up. We spent so many hours in this forest and enjoyed every second of it <3

Re: The Official Legend of Zelda Timeline Has Been Updated

Rutana

@PigmaskFan
....what? o.O
Ruto is a River Zora just as much. Heck, I never even seen a difference in "River" or "Sea" Zora for that matter.
How would she be a Sea Zora? There's no Sea in Ocarina of Time!
There's a Lake, a River and a fountain, and that's where the Zoras live.
The only Zora we've seen so far that actually live in a sea are the Zoras of Majoras Mask - that's it o.O

Re: The Official Legend of Zelda Timeline Has Been Updated

Rutana

@Squidling Thanks for clearing that up!
I wonder if it's really an official statement of japan, or if Bill Trinen just made that up on his own...
Not that I want to disprove him, but evolutionary it makes not that much sense.
In ALTTP, it's stated that the seven maidens are the descendants of the seven sages, and don't inherit their strength in total - which is a sign for the power of the seven sages being weakened. Also, the Dark World is the Sacred Realm, but corrupted by Ganondorf.
But in ALBW, the seven sages are still, well, sages. With their full power. Also, we have Oren, the Zora Queen, as a sage, which means that the Zora line is still strong within the sages, and Rosso could very well be a halfbread Goron judging on his appearence (it's a strech though), showing the slow transition between mixed-raced Sages and Human-Only sages/maidens.
Also, the Realm of the sages, which is part of the sacred realm, is still in tact and free from Ganondorf's clutches. It also looks exactly like the sacred realm of Ocarina of Time, which further undermines this connection.
If the power of the sages is really passed along by bloodline, which is highly suggested by ALTTP, it would make a lot more sense, if ALBW played before that.

Again, if that's really official (as in, Miyamoto, Anouma, or someone else who's actually highly involved in the development of the Zelda series actually passed that information along to Trinen), then it's fine and I'll accept it.
But until then, I still see ALBW before ALTTP ^^

@Trinexx
I agree with Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures seeming to be shoehorned in, though to be fair, both games don't give a lot of story to go by, especially Four Swords, so I don't see their place in the timeline as impossible
Triforce Heroes though makes good sense as the green Link being the same as in A Link Between Worlds.
It's not the first time, that Link ventures into another country/world after his original journey is complete (Majoras Mask, Oracle of Ages/Seasons), and with these games, not the first time that Zelda sent him out in order to help another country in despair (again, Oracles of Ages/Seasons)

Re: The Official Legend of Zelda Timeline Has Been Updated

Rutana

The update sadly doesn't bring anything new to the table though, as the big question left was, if ALBW/TH plays before or after ALTTP. Since this timeline skips every game that doesn't had a new release since 2011, it also skips ALTTP, leaving this question open :/
(I think ALBW/TH plays before ALTTP, since some sages still resemble their OoT ancestors and the realm of the sages is still untouched, but both variations are possible, so I'd really love a clear statement on it.)

Re: Rumour: Details of amiibo Features in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Emerge

Rutana

I find it funny how many complain, that the amiibo make the game easier, mostly accompanied with "the game is easy enough already".
If you find it easy enough as it is - just don't use the amiibo and have fun o.O
I will probably play the game without the use of amiibo at first, before I'll have fun with the amiibo features :3
Though I might consider doing the Wolf-Link amiibo rather soon for the bottomless wallet - because not being able to loot rupees and having to remember where the unopened chests are was really bad in the original game... (I'd rather have the rupees wasted but the chest checked up in my mind, then having closed chests around to be honest... XD)

And I'm all for new amiibo features :3
I don't know how it is in the UK and I think it's still bad in the US, but here in Germany the amiibo are so much in supply, that they're on sale basically all the time (at least the older ones). Getting an amiibo for 10 Euro (instead of 15) isn't a rarity anymore. Actually, if you have troubles getting one, I'd recommend checking out Amazon.de - it might be a better solution, and a lot cheaper, then relying on scalpers.
