Re: Nintendo Gamers Prefer Using Switch As A Handheld Rather Than Docked

Rocko52

I know my friend prefers his Switch as a docked console pretty absolutely - even though I don't yet have a Switch, I'm sure though that I'll be using it as a handheld almost exclusively. I've always liked handhelds more than consoles, specifically Nintendo handhelds. Like, I've always enjoyed console and pc gaming, but without a doubt Ninty Handhelds (GBA - DS - 3DS) have been the cherished core of my gaming experience. Plus it's just more convenient with only so many TVs in the house.

Re: Video: Fans Are Getting Bent Out Of Shape By The New Pokémon Sun And Moon Anime

Rocko52

Honestly, as an animation fan, I think it looks pretty great in motion. And really, that's a big factor people seem to forget. Not every single frame of an animation is going to look like a gorgeous work of art, especially if said animation is designed more with motion in mind. (For comparison, Western animation focuses much more on fluidity than anime, for the most part mind you as there are huge exceptions, and neither style is inherently better or worse)

This kind of reminds me of the crazy-awesome moments from Birdy the Mighty Decode 02, where the style got all sketchy and crude and the action was ratcheted up to an 11. Some people took stills from the moments, making the individual frame look totally laughable as if I child had scribbled it. But that takes it horribly out of context, because in motion, the action was insane and beautiful. This feels like a similar case, but I'll reserve too much judgement for when/if I actually watch this.

Re: Retro Studios Finally Modernises and Relaunches Its Website

Rocko52

People have always been speculating what Retro's doing for years now. There's always been leaks, theories, and one pretty good game released in a now (almost) six year period. Their pedigree and lack of new games/info invite that to a degree. I remember years ago hoping they would work on Star Fox, more Metroid, or maybe F-Zero, but idk how many of those are likely. Than again, Ninty has new management which might capitalize on their icons more than under Iwata. (Whether that's good or bad we'll see, after years of Iwata I'm sure many fans are longing for more games, but at the same time Iwata, while he had his mistakes, was by far one of the most genuine and enthusiastic CEOs I've ever seen. His decisions, while not always sound, always felt like he meant it. His leadership is likely a big part of Ninty's rep for marching to the beat of its own drum. I wonder whether the new management will still be as darn genuine and enthusiastic about games, and whether quality will slip as quantity goes up. We'll see I guess.)

Re: Shigesato Itoi Explains, Once Again, Why Mother 4 is "Totally Impossible"

Rocko52

If Itoi doesn't want to do more, I think that's very respectable. Unlike other mediums, video-gaming seems unique (in a negative way) in that it never seems to want to let a series end, unless it's unsuccessful. With books or movies, a series ends when the story is closed or the creator wants to, (ideally - obviously when things get hugely popular & have multiple interests to please, series can get horribly milked) but with video games it seems that people always want remakes, redos, updates, sequels, endlessly. Even when you have a nearly perfect record of games in a series, fans still demand more. Sometimes I wonder - should we as fans and consumers of this medium be more content with what we already have, (thousands of amazing games over the years) rather than always looking forward towards the new? People always complain or beg for new better games, but do we ever stop to realize how many games we already have I dunno - just a thought.

Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now

Rocko52

On the topic of this looking like a "PS2" game - first off this clearly is well above what a PS2 could handle, the comparison is rather silly. There's no way a PS2 could handle this stuff, espcially at 60 fps. I should know, I actually just bought a PS2 for cheap & am in the middle of playing through it's huge library.
Also on a second note, I think art style far trumps actual graphical fidelity. Games that were more stylized in previous generations tend to age far better than those that go for realism. Even though it's being used as an insult, there are still several games that look stunning on the PS2. Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Shin Megami Tensei III, all those games still look great, not the least of which is because of their impeccable art design. Wind Waker is a ninty example of that same principle, that game still looks great, even the original gamecube version.
Finally - it's Star Fox! You guys have complained and begged for a new Star Fox for years! You all played and loved Star For 64, and probably still do, and some of us enjoy the other games as well & this has better graphics than those by far! When you go back and play 64 do you think "This looks like sh*t?" Or any of the gamecube games? Seriously, it's rather ridiculous that after so long we finally get a new Star Fox with improved gameplay, and all the people who begged for it for so long are ranting about the graphics....yeesh.

Besides the game looks very good & they're clearly improving it before release.

Re: Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2015 - Q4 Edition

Rocko52

I'm pretty excited for Triforce, Yokai Watch, Stella Glow, Legend of Legacy, Steamworld Heist, & Super Mystery Dungeon but now my most anticipated 3DS game by far (although not confirmed for the US yet but come on) is Shin Megami Tensei IV Final. I'm soooo excited for that!

Re: New Trailer Emerges for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

Rocko52

It's just more based on Persona which is an amazing series btw. This game also will probably be rated M so you can expect some "SMT Darkness" plenty. The Persona games have that so yeah.

However I do think the female characters are a bit too sexualized perhaps.

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set for 2015 Release

Rocko52

I can't say I didn't see this coming. It's not like Nintendo to have a game as big as this have this much unexplained/unknown the same year it's supposedly releasing. It's not a big disappointment to me and it is launching on the series' 30th anniversary so that's cool.

The problem of course though is the Wii U's games drought. Nintendo needs great games and it needs them now. Yes the Wii U has plenty of great game, but there just aren't any releasing in the next few months.
