If you're a fan of the long-running One Piece series and are looking forward to the upcoming release of One Piece: Unlimited World Red, then you'll be pleased to know that the game will come complete with a new Coliseum Mode, which — according to publisher Namco Bandai — will "closely resemble" the latest episodes of the anime series.
Here's some more of the official PR:
Witness the strongest pirate alliance as Straw Hat Luffy and Trafalgar Law, a member of the Royal Seven Warlords of the Sea, team up to challenge the diabolical Donquixote Doflamingo, who will be joining the battle for the first time. Law will also be featured as a new playable character in Coliseum Mode only.
One Piece: Unlimited World Red is coming to the west later this year and will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

I just want to use "Gomu Gomu No, make this game come out sooner" because this sounds swell
Will the Wii U version be able to connect to the 3DS version for multiplayer?
@SheldonRandoms I think it was comfirmed that the NA is getting it in the Summer or maybe it was fall! Either way it's coming our way very soon!
Long as they get the sales that they hope for I don't even care that it's going towards the dead Vita.
I love Anime, but never got in to One Piece.
This game looks pretty good though, better then the offerings we've gotten from other popular long running series like Yu-yu Hakusho, Dragonball Z and Bleach.
When it says catch bugs and fishing, I thought of Zelda games right away.
The current arc? laughs maniacally
Also this is gonna be great.
@TysonOfTime This game was released in Japan last year, so there's no way it has the current arc story, as it would spoil months of the manga...
But having a couple elements from it still seems better than the other unlimited games stories.
Made me laugh when it said, "Catch bugs!" Like really? Is that worth mentioning lol.
Yeah the only thing worrying me is the fact that it starts out all epic but the first gameplay you see is "Lets fish! and catch bugs!" YAAAAY.
release date june 27( amazon uk)
One Piece is one really confusing series. Not in the sense that it's complicated, but considering how long it's been running by now without turning into a crawling mass of repetition and ridicule (like Fairy Tail or Naruto).
Even though One Piece is by now among the longest running series ever, Oda recently stated that only half of his material is actually used by now. And he even managed to throw in one seriously interesting plot twist to save it from becoming stale, but still make sense within its universe.
I'm not much of a One Piece fan, but this series is the first one that maintains its plot really well, and I gotta tip my hat to that (if I had one right now).
@Spanjard Well, that's definitely Oda's kind of humour, I'd say. Take it with a grain of salt.
@Kaze_Memaryu You're suggesting Oda made the game? I don't think he has the time for that, nor the skill xD but I'm sure we're not understanding one another.
And what's so confusing about One Piece, you're only giving positives...
@Tsuzura it probably won't since the 3ds version came before the hd versions but who knows.
@Tsuzura I don't think so, but most likely there will be local multi-player on the Wii U.
@Spanjard Bugs and fishes were a big deal on the other unlimited games, so they are most likely making it clear the core gameplay is intact..
And I think what he/she finds confusing is how can a series last so long without becoming utter cr@p, being overly repetitive or throwing ridicule things at us.. Well, at least most if not all editors and mangakas asked themselves this question, and so far none seems to have found the answer, so it is confusing.
@Spanjard I never said he made it, but he occasionally gives advice to the dev teams behind the games.
Also, I find it confusing that the series didn't end up like every other Shonen Jump longrunner so far. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but Oda manages to keep it fresh... mostly. That's nothing I'd call amazing or even impressive (it's the least a writer/artist should be capable of), but it's definitely unusual for a Shonen Jump series.
@Kaze_Memaryu Yeah, I was pretty sure I misunderstood you. Anyway, sorry about that.
Kaze is right. One Piece manages to stay fresh and relevant despite how long its run. This is obviously due to the love and care its creator puts into the manga and how hard the anime creators work to bring that to the screen. I hope this game is a good one that does the series justice.
I love One Piece, I'll gladly get this for my Wii U since I did enjoy Unlimited Adventure for the Wii
Looks great! I'll most likely pick it up for 3DS.
This looks great! I'll definitely get this for 3ds!
@RennanNT
Well, based on the fact the SHs are fighting Doffy, with Law, in a Coliseum, kind of points to it being the current arc.
Whether or not it will go into detail (PLEASE YES) I don't know.
