Re: Super Mario 3D World Brings New Power-Ups to the Mushroom Kingdom

Raylax

Much more impressive-looking title, definitely more excited for this now. My only 'problem' is the recycled koopa kid boss (I forgot his name) in what seems to be exactly the same spinning-top form we fought him in SM3DL about 5 times. I hope every mid-castle stage isn't just a variant of him again, lol (although I guess it's still a better battle than fighting those rhinos-on-a-carousel NSMB2 subjected us to about half a billion times)

Re: Chompy Chomp Chomp Party Heading To Wii U Next Year

Raylax

I met the devs of this at an expo last year. It's a great frantic multi-player game. Probably doesn't stand up as well in single-player (if there even is such a mode), but it had me, one of the devs and a couple of other expo-goers screaming at each other (in a good way!)

Essentially, you chase each other around the maze. The colour of the 'target' beneath your feet shows you who you should be chasing (ie, red target = chase the red player). Every 20-or-so seconds though, the colours switch with little warning - that guy you were closing in on might well now be on the hunt for you instead! Throw items into the mix and it quickly gets chaotic - oftentimes you won't even notice your target colour has changed, or who's presently chasing you, until it's too late. Very fun little game

Re: Pikmin 3 Listed As £39.99 On The Wii U eShop in The UK

Raylax

In this instance, should The Wonderful 101 be £49.99, the total spend will be £75 and if it's the same price as Pikmin 3 then it would be £68. Both options will certainly rival physical copies, especially the latter.

Amazon Prices:
Pikmin 3 - £31.99
Wonderful 101 - £34.89
Total = £66.88 (plus free delivery on both)

Re: 3DS UK Success in 2013 Offset by Abysmal Wii U Figures

Raylax

Our economy is in the pooper, and our crazy VAT means that dropping ~£300 on a games console just isn't viable right now. Even for me, and I'm an employed gamer (clarfication: I am not employed as a gamer, thought that would be epic) with relatively low financial responsibilities.

Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS)

Raylax

Official name: Mario & Luigi [RPG 4] [Dream Team [Bros]]
That's that cleared up :3

The fact that this game was allowed to be imaginative and creative (unlike Sticker Star) has me hyped. Too bad I'm broke right now haha.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

Raylax

players familiar with the console version of Sonic 2 will notice is that there's no spunky sidekick to run alongside you this time. That's because Tails - despite his prominent placement right behind Sonic in every pre-level illustration - has been kidnapped by Eggman

Fun fact - the sprite data found for Tails in the game would suggest that at one point he was intended to be playable, as in the Mega Drive/Genesis version. He was probably edited out as deadlines loomed.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

I love this one. Dat music~
The Game Gear version is particularly tricky thanks to the squashed aspect ratio: the first boss is a nightmare. The Master System version gives you more horizontal room to play with and is consequently much easier. Same goes for a lot of the leaps of faith: you can see where you're headed in the MS version.

That first boss is a really weird moment - first Robotnik saves his mortal foe from certain death, and then flies in and kills the boss robot himself after it's taken a few hits. The heck?

Re: Evidence of a Functional 3DS Flashcard Emerges

Raylax

Where I stand on the whole flashcard debate: I've nothing against homebrew. If people want to hack the 3DS and develop their own applications, that's their call and their own risk. If people want to distribute devices for doing so, that again is their own call and risk.

However, it should be the responsibility of the device manufacturer (that's the 'flashcart' device, not the 3DS) to ensure that their device cannot be used to support piracy. It's no good just not putting its piracy capabilities on the blurb and adding a legal disclaimer, if you want to develop a homebrew device then you should also make it as hard as possible for said device to be used to support piracy.

It is also the responsibility of the device user to not use the device for piracy purposes. Any legal proceedings against a user should be:
a) Does the device allow easy circumvention of piracy laws? (Responsibility of manufacturer and user)
b) If the device is shown to have suitable preventative measures, has the user intentionally broken past these barriers to play pirated games? (Responsibility of user)

This device however needs to be shot down or walled out via update. It's all piracy.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Update Arriving with Luigi's DLC

Raylax

Those wondering if this is the same size as the original: Remember that whilst it does have same number of levels, they're like the DLC coin rush levels in NSMB2. Limited timer, so you'll be doing a lot of running to the goal with less exploration, the levels will likely be considerably shorter too.
