Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bayonetta 3

Ratmasterd21

@GoAwaySpaceJam video games literally have written scripts. I've helped write them. What I'm saying is that videogames aren't ONLY that. With the exception of visual novels every single game is indeed a GAME. Games are first and foremost ment to be fun. This in no way is reductive. In fact as someone who (once again I must clearly state) works in the industry, I consider videogames as the most difficult and misunderstood art form.

I'm not saying a games story can't be well done and moving. Anyone who's ever played "The Last Of Us" or "It Takes Two" can tell you that stories in games can be wonderful, thought provoking, and emotional. I'm saying that the story in these games should take a back seat to the gameplay.

The art form that is videogames is a collaborative one. You need things like Music, sound, visuals, control, level design, atmosphere, animation, ect, and when those pieces fit together in a perfect way story matters very little. Play any 3D mario game (specifically Mario Galaxy, Mario 64, and Mario Odyssey) and tell me that they didn't move you. That you didn't feel something like excitement, or joy, or even childlike amazement and wonder at some point.

I guess the short version of what I'm saying is that videogames have reached an audience that for some reason plays them as movies. They sit there and hope the story is good and play the gameplay sections simply to see the next cut scene. That's not what it's about and it never has been.

@Beaucine "naritive" Most of your views seem to come from a place of " Video games are stories." they aren't. While many games contain a story, they are in fact GAMES.

this is my underlining problem with basically everything you're saying. you seem to thing that every single bit of work put into a game is part of the experience of playing a story. It isn't. I'm a person who works on games for a living, I have a few dozen under my belt and I can see a poorly constructed game a mile away. (Ninjabread man for example is objectively terrible). But again I know I'm not going to change your mind so I'll leave you with this, Good luck with whatever you choose to play and try and have fun while doing so.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bayonetta 3

Ratmasterd21

@Beaucine I'm not going to change your mind on anything so I'll sustain from a long counter point by counter point argument and just say this....

By "good controls" I didn't mean if they are clunky or laggy or not. I meant DOES YOUR IMPUT WORK. if you press a button does stuff happen. same for sound and level design and so on. I'm not going to get into it because I have better things to do. But yes a game can be judged on everything I said objectively. Try making a game and then tell me everything is subjective.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bayonetta 3

Ratmasterd21

@Beaucine "And yes, every single review ever written is "subjective." The closest you can get to "objectivity" is discussing numbers like frame rates and resolution."

This could not be further from the truth. There IS a such thing as game design. there ARE a ton of aspects that can be rated objectively. off of the top of my head I'd say, level design, camera control and view points, control of in game characters, game flow, sound design such as music, voice acting and sound effects(are the sounds and music tracks properly formatted or are some way to loud or full of distortion? Can the actors act or are they so horrible they take you out of the experience), graphic design (does the game look good for the system its on? Does it have any huge garish aspects that are distracting and unfitting?)and much more. Its takes a lot more to make a game then to write a book, stories my be subjective but there are dozens of other things that go into creating an all around well thought out experience.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked

Ratmasterd21

@kartus Yeah I'd say I'm a big shot. Also way to skate around the facts. N64 is a great console if you like first party Nintendo games, or racers, or poorly aged 3d adventure games, but thats about it. No JRPGs ( save for Ogre battle and as the other guy said Paper Mario) very few fighting games ( seriously its the only Nintendo console without a street fighter game. Even the Wii U had street fighter on VC and the virtual boy as a SF2 port)

SO unless I'm going to sit down and play quest 64 rather than say Dragon Quest 7 (dragon warrior VII in the west) or Clayfighter 64 over Tekken 3, I'd rather game somewhere else.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked

Ratmasterd21

@Wexter I honestly forgot about paper Mario. Add that to the list. THREE JRPGS. Harvest Moon is a life sim, and Gauntlet is a port of an arcade game. besides that we have the aforementioned Ogre battle 64, the TERRIBLE Quest 64, and um..........

Edit; forgot to mention harvest moon

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked

Ratmasterd21

@kartus I'm not reading that wall of text dude.

The N64 has 2 JRPGs and only 1 is worth playing ( Ogre Battle 64) and 5 fighting games only 2 of which are worth playing (smash and MK trilogy) those are my 2 favorite types of games and SNES was jammed packed with them. I'm not lowing my standards to play duck dodgers or Shadow man when I can play FF9 on my ps1 and arcade perfect X-men vs street fighter on my Sega Saturn.

Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator

Ratmasterd21

How unprofessional. I guess valve needs to try and tap into a market 100million strong, but this is sort of like saying " hey you like stealing? come do it on our platform"

for the record. Yes I am aware that emulation ISNT stealing. Yes I use emulators. Yes I'm sure there are plenty of people like myself who use emulation perfectly legally the way I do, but you must admit that YES most people DON'T, and they download these games illegally. After all there is no way of cleanly extracting them without hacking and/or modding.

Re: Nintendo's Latest N64 Game For Switch Online + Expansion Pack Is Out Now

Ratmasterd21

@-wc- I'm going to have to split hairs as well I'm afraid. Your statement was "Dreamcast has one of the best libraries ever and I'm pretty sure it's a great deal smaller than n64's." I wouldnt call 48 releases in a single region (although its the biggest) "a great deal smaller" especially since its 200 games bigger worldwide. I'm in NYC, I've always had access to Japanese and EU games so I suppose I didn't notice.

Also I suppose my use of hyperbole didn't translate well but by "Caved in" I ment "followed the market." Business 101 is supply and demand. If the target customer is openly asking for a product that you can supply relatively easily and with little to no cost, it's just smart to give it to them and charge whatever premium you find most profitable and realistically viable.

That being said I'll make my original point as clear as possible. The Nintendo 64 has some of the best games ever made, but it's library is extremely limited when compared to any other Nintendo console (with the obvious exception of the virtual boy). For that reason I find that while the decision to add N64 games to the premium online service is more then likely the more popular and profitable move, I feel as though ANY other console (but especially the gameboy family of consoles) would have been a better experience for gamers. Mostly because people would find things they haven't yet had legal access to and/or haven't had access to in years.

Re: Nintendo's Latest N64 Game For Switch Online + Expansion Pack Is Out Now

Ratmasterd21

@RubyCarbuncle I did, but I also had a ps1. and a Sega Saturn and the had way better libraries ( quantity and diversity wise, I still believe Mario 64 Starfox 64 are the best games of that generation) its just the n64 was so lacking in what the SNES had in droves, GREAT JRPGs and fighters. Next to Orge battle and Smash nothing was really worth getting (quest 64 was hot trash) I bought the N64 with my own cash and its the biggest Nintendo disappointment I've ever had after the VB.

Re: Nintendo's Latest N64 Game For Switch Online + Expansion Pack Is Out Now

Ratmasterd21

@ComposedbyNone the first few are very possible, but you hit a snag when you said Pokemon Stadium. Pokemon company very rarely does rereleases and definitely not for free. Tony Hawk on the n64 was far and away the worst version and the remake is on the platform AND the music/ skaters make it a licensing nightmare. rare titles are also hard but not impossible since Nintendo and Microsoft have a really good relationship. Blitz will NEVER come NFL does NOT play around with that stuff plus you'd have to pay all those players. 1080 I agree with you on. that ones coming for sure. So yeah I think you're right about a lot of those games but some are just way to wrapped up in red tape to be paid for and given away for free with an online subscription

Re: Nintendo's Latest N64 Game For Switch Online + Expansion Pack Is Out Now

Ratmasterd21

@Maulbert actually I did. it was the first system I bought with my own money, and the first Nintendo system I was disappointed in. SNES had so many great RPGs and fighters, and next to smash and Orge battle N64 had none. I moved on to Saturn and Ps1 after only a year of N64. That being said Star Fox and Mario 64 are 2 of my all time favorite games.

Re: Review: Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition - A Cyberpunk Classic, Compromised On Switch

Ratmasterd21

@Gs69 I wonder how long before they really CAN. I mean the Tegra X1 used in the Switch was old 6 years ago when the switch released, but APU's are still underpowered and expensive. Even say the one used in the steam deck is drastically overpriced for the out given and Valve is STILL selling each unit at a loss.

Nintendo isn't one to sell at a loss ( it has happened but not often) so I wonder when that nice meeting of price and power will be available for them to jump in.

Re: It's Official, Nintendo Has Withdrawn Super Smash Bros. From EVO 2022

Ratmasterd21

As a street fighter fan I couldn't be happier. I love smash but I hate watching it and sitting and waiting for match after match of fox v fox final destination just for a pretty okay top 8 were hungry box just wins again anyway is boring AF. At least now I can watch the SF finals at a normal time instead of staying up till 3am on a Sunday night.

Re: Review: Banjo-Kazooie - Peerless Platforming Perfection, And Now Available On Switch

Ratmasterd21

Ive never been a big fan of this game. I remember buying it day one on n64 and thinking it was just a poor mans Mario 64. I guess you have to be an N64 baby and not an NES one like me to have real appreciation for it.

Don't get me wrong I bought it and played it and finished and even bought twoie, but that was pretty much it. I didn't drool over it while watching jontron videos all 2010s like most people seem to have.
