Re: Universal's New Streaming Exclusivity Deal Will Affect Super Mario Movie

@Twili_Waker At first thought, I would agree with you. However, there was an e3 presentation or somesuch where Charles Martinet did several minutes of dialogue as Mario. The public response was pretty widespread as to how cringy and annoying it was to hear Mario for minutes at a time.

Beyond casting big names, the response may have been a driving force for them to consider someone else to play Mario. Personally I would like somebody halfway between Martinet and Lou Albano's performance.

Re: Charles Martinet Would Love To Voice Mario In Upcoming Illumination Movie

Does anyone remember that Charles voiced several minutes of Mario speaking for some Nintendo e3 thing years ago? I remember every post was complaining about how hard it was to listen to it. Seriously. Not one positive response.

I remember when Mario 64 came out all my friends at school thought it sounded like Mario got hit in the nuts. Maybe we were used to the voice in the cartoons at the time. Anyways, I'd bet they're going to use someone else for the movie.

I think one of the main problems with the game is that Disney focus tested it to death. Leading up to the game's release, you could tell that Warren Spector had a lot of enthusiasm for player choice having a huge impact on the game. I also remember an article where they quoted a focus group member who said something along the lines of "That's not my Mickey Mouse" in regards to "Evil Mickey".

Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who only see Mickey Mouse as he's been portrayed since the early 60's as the squeaky clean corporate icon and forget the cheeky playfulness of the character from the earlier shorts. Then when something funny and dynamic like "Runaway Brain" or the recent Mickey Mouse shorts come out they all cry bloody murder.

I would like to see Warren Spencer have a (less restrictive) crack at the concept again or maybe a Ducktales game. He wrote a few comics.

Sweet merch! By the way, fan translations for all the SNES Goemon titles (and I believe some of the NES games) made their way to the internet recently. They're amazing games. They're working on the PS1 game also. By the way, "piracy is bad kids, so make sure you own the original cartridge, blah blah blah".
