Hamster has confirmed that the next game in its popular Arcade Archives series is Seibu Kaihatsu's Zero Team, a side-scrolling fighter from 1993 which, until very recently, was considered something of a lost classic, due to the fact that it was never ported to consoles and only became playable in MAME in 2016.
Seibu Kaihatsu is most famous for its Raiden series, but Zero Team proved it was just as adept in other genres, too. Boasting slightly smaller sprites than Capcom's Final Fight – which is a clear inspiration – Zero Team is nonetheless a good time if you're a fan of belt-scrolling brawlers. It's a shame that it never got ported in the '90s, but, thanks to its inclusion in the burgeoning Arcade Archives range, it can now reach a wider audience.
Zero Team will cost the usual £6.29 / $7.99 / 6.99 Euros, and will apparently include both the Japanese and western versions of the game (the latter was rebalanced). Will you be downloading it tomorrow? Let us know with a comment.

Wow, seeing those pictures gave me serious 90s arcade flashbacks. I remember seeing this when I was 9 or 10.
Nice, I'll deffo be grabbing this tomorrow.
Is it the 90’s again? If so, thank god.
But what a pleasant surprise! Maybe they will get off their arses and give us Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder???
And this, along with 64th Street and Circus Charlie, will make my 3 pack of Hamster purchases tomorrow with the eShop credit I have.
Trio the Punch, Green Beret and hopefully Bubble Bobble will have to wait...
I’ve heard of this one and always wanted to play it. Definitely getting this. More 90’s arcade games is a good thing.
Now here’s an unsung beauty
@Moroboshi876 Circus Charlie? You sir, are a man of good taste! 8-bit monkey butt for the win!
Never heard of this before. I look at screenshots, yes I am sold xxx
Wow, I had never even heard of this! It looks awesome - I'm definitely gonna get it!
Another purchase on the cards!
I don't have many of these games but I really enjoy them. Most recently I got The Ninja Saviours, which I found a bit hard!
@Professorgenius I can't help it, I played the MSX version a lot when I was a child! I've been buying also Road Fighter, Yie Ar Kung-Fu and Pooyan for the same reason.
Looks really good but not quite a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in time (PLEASE!!!!!). However will be giving this serious thought!
This game has 4 different versions:
Zero Team
Zero Team USA
New Zero Team
Zero Team 2000
the last two work in MAME, the other two do not afaik.
Never seen or heard of this game before. It looks pretty cool. Love the design of the female fighter...a lost art in most of today's beat-em-ups, Streets of Rage 4 and Fight 'N Rage aside.
I gotta check this out
I wouldn't mind all the exposed skin on the only female character if the guys were more exposed as well.
Never heard of it, but it looks awesome so I’ll be picking it up at some point. Man, I love all of these out-of-left-field releases
@TG16_IS_BAE
Revenge of Death Adder? What a great game. You get a thumbs up just for mentioning it
@DrDaisy LOL! That lady's behind was the first thing I noticed! I'm sold! (JK, I love beat-em-ups, too).
Now this game is amazing, one of the best side scrolling beat em ups. Hidden gem to a lot of gamers out there. This and Metamorphic force are so underrated.
@DrDaisy Hilarious. The guys are all facing forwards but the woman in the thong is turned around! I'd like to say times have changed but they really haven't.
@SigourneyBeaver - I totally agree - HOW does the industry and how do the players not care or stand up or ???
I mean really?
The woman is just a body, just a thing, an object? That is what the game is selling?
I came in interested in the game, looked at the image and was immediately disappointed.
Hoping for a Ninja Baseball Batman release on the switch as that has to be the best beat’em up arcade game of all time.
I would get this game, as a good side-scrolling beat-em-up makes a good party game, but it'll have to wait a bit. Little poor right now. Looks good though.
Also, I realize I'm probably the only person on the PLANET who cares, but when will Hamster AA put up Nova 2001?
@Mchi5 Thank you! And I always pick Dora, easily the highlight of brawler games.
@gojiguy Let's hope this time Hamster did their homework too (as with Donkey Kong and its 3 versions) and we get them all!
Nice, while there are many 80's/90's beat'em ups, aren't really many that are as good as the classics from Capcom/Konami/Sega. This one looks like it can actually compete.
Just saw a video gameplay. The enemies explode when they are defeated. What is this? Fist of the North Star?😂 Definitely getting this.
@shonenjump86 Was just scoping this out on YouTube. LOL! They all make the same cheesy grunt and burst into chunks of flaming charcoal. Not quite legendary like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs bad-guy deaths, but highly highly entertaining!
@TheWingedAvenger same here it looks really cool. Go on youtube to see it in action! Looks awesome! Did anyone ever play fighting force on ps1 was a 3d streets of rage. Was good 2 player for a laugh. I want more games like that to have fun couch co op
@Professorgenius lol, it looks like a cool beat em up from the start, but the whole exploding thing sealed the deal.
The two bros with the masks fit right in with the reality of 2020.
I play ALL brawlers, good, bad, and unknown, so to the wishlist it goes!
what is the arcade archives? i did'nt really notice it , although i have to look through 4000 games on eshop.
reminds me of snes power rangers.
@Ninfan It’s a publishing group that brings top notch emulation of arcade classics as well as lesser known gems. They’ve released one game weekly for the longest time now so they’ve got an extensive library, including memorable Nintendo, Konami and SNK arcade titles.
@Savino I don't like censorship either and I wouldn't want her changed. I'm not even all that upset about her sexy outfit. I just wish they'd sex the guys up too. I'm also sort of into BDSM so my ideal brawler would have everyone in skimpy fetishwear and using whips, chains, and paddles as weapons.
@Savino Not yet.
@Magrane are the games on switch ?
Nice one, actually a decent release and one that only became playable a few years ago.
@DrDaisy What do you mean 'sort of'?
@YANDMAN I'm not obsessed with it.
@Ninfan Yes they’re in the EShop. Just login and sort by “Publisher” in the filters and seek “Hamster” or “Arcade Archives”
They’re also on PS4.
I picked this up and it’s a true hidden gem. Plays like Final Fight on steroids. Really a fun beatem up game worth getting if your on the fence deciding.
One of the best beat em ups I have ever played.
Can't believe I've never heard of it until now.
