Bandai Namco has officially announced the next entry in the One Piece: Pirate Warriors series at the 2019 Anime Expo.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is once again based on Koei Tecmo's Warriors series and is being developed by Omega Force. It will be released on multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch in 2020. Take a look at the reveal trailer below:
If you're not familiar with this particular One Piece video game action series, now might be the time to check out our review of the third game. We gave it eight out of ten stars and said it was a wonderful take on the long-running manga and anime.
Will you be joining Luffy in Pirate Warriors 4? Did you play the previous game or Unlimited Red on the Nintendo Switch? Leave a comment down below.

Always a pleasure to wake up to a positive comment thread.
One Piece is great for Musou games with its diverse power users. Can't wait to hear more about it.
One Piece is an absolute monster of an anime. A show that has gone on for more than 20 years!
But despite being a major anime buff. I don't really care for it very much. The only "mega anime" that has kept my attention is Fairy Tail. Naruto lost me. Bleach crashed and burned, though I did finish it. Dragon Ball ZGTKaiSuper lost me. One Piece never pulled me in. Detective Conan/Case Closed I like but it seems to have given up on its own plot. So I can still watch and enjoy it but gave up on following it.
@Heavyarms55 What about Boku No Pico?
The Pirate Warriors series is to One Piece as the Ninja Storm games is to Naruto. It just works so well.
And that's how many Warriors games on Switch now? I thought trends were bad and stuff lol
The pirate warriors games are by far the best musou games out there. Although Persona 5 Scramble could top pirate warriors 3 if it includes characters from past persona games. My 2 characters that I want are most likely going to be in anyways but I still hope we get confirmation of Reiju and Katakuri making it in.
I haven't gotten Pirate Warriors 3 yet, and I don't know much about One Piece, but I completely devoured Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. I'll definitely keep an eye on this!
Cool.
I thought PW3 was great fun so I'm down for another entry.
Definitely looking forward to it while keeping fingers crossed for better performance on the Switch than OPPW3, since it won't be a port this time.
@patbacknitro18 People still use that outdated meme? Anyway what I was talking about were the super long anime series, with episodes numbering in the hundreds, if not more.
Now that's a nice surprise to wake up to, especially considering they previously said PW3 would be the last one.
Can't wait for playable Katakuri.
@Heavyarms55 Don't want to sound like a fanboy who has to defend his favourite series (even tho I gotta be as honest as to say that I probably am, no matter what I do xD) but why do you say that Detective Conan gave up on its plot?
I mean, yeah, the Anime spams filler episodes whereever it can, and the manga is kinda pulling the current Rum Arc a little longer than it maybe should have, but the story is still pushing forward faster than ever before rn, to a point where you can actually say that the series is definitely nearing it's end, and what we get is pretty damn interesting for me
But enough fanboying for my favourite anime, to the topic: Welp, while the last One Piece Games didn't get me too much, and I'm not big of a Warriors fan, it's surprisingly always been the One Piece Warriors game that ended up being fun to me. And... well, for this one, we only got a cg trailer so far, but if the actual game does the pretty epic atmosphere of the trailer justice (like, at least a little bit), then I'm in.
@NDragon1412 It's just felt like, for a long time, Detective Conan hasn't really progressed, storywise. Like yeah, the organization is there, and occasionally there are attempts made to deal with it and such. But it just never seems to really progress. It is extremely episodic and gives me the impression they are content to just churn out content without ever really moving forward. It's kinda become like Doraemon or the Simpsons, just a show that goes on indefinitely. Individual episodes or sometimes larger story arcs can be interesting, but rarely feel like anything was actually accomplished.
That said, I'm pretty out of date with the series now.
I missed PW3 and like one piece a lot and haven’t played a musou game since hyrule warriors on wii u.
I’m interested, depends on money and what other games are out.
Including this and all currently available Musou/Warriors games on Switch thus far, this one is the tenth.
But still no Dead or Alive V...
We'll probably get Atelier Warriors before that ever happens.
Big thanks NintendoLife! I'm a big Musou games (yea...) and OPPW3 game went totally under my radar and, thinking to myself I had them all on Switch.
...Instabuy, downloading...
OPPW3 is the best musou game, and Fire Emblem Warriors is also much improved over Hyrule Warriors. Anyone who says HW is the best musou game either really likes the roster or has only played HW haha.
But yeah you can bet I'm looking forward to this! (Also please a new Gundam Musou!)
Pirate Warriors 3 was my first Musou game ever and I enjoyed it a lot even though I don't care much for One Piece or modern anime. This is welcomed.
I’ll check the review and get it if it as good as PW3. Enjoyed it quite a lot
@Heavyarms55 - To be fair, from what I understand, One Piece is better as a manga than as an anime, so maybe you'll have better luck there?
@CapricornDavid - As someone who's played both PW3 and HW, I can definitely say I much prefer HW overall, and not just because of the roster. Not that I didn't like PW3, but it didn't seem to do much with the One Piece licence outside the characters and setting imo, whereas HW was able to include Zelda elements into the game mechanics to make for a more unique playing experience.
As for the game, it's obviously too early to tell, but it seems the game is going to focus on the Big Mom arc that finished last year which, for me, wouldn't be much of a problem if the game were coming out later this year, but for a 2020 release, I'd have thought they'd include at least some of the current Wano arc.
@FullMetalWesker I mean, I have nothing against it. It's not that I actively don't like it, it just doesn't hook me. And at this point, there is so much to the series, I feel like it would take me 20 years to catch up. lol
Yes yes yes!! Played all 3 to platinum
@CapricornDavid I love musou games, and I have played A LOT of them, and I do think that HW is indeed the best one.
too bad One Piece games suck
@TheMelodiusRose I'd probably have an easier time answering that question if it wasn't three years later. But I remember sitting down with my buddy to play in co-op and there were some nasty slow downs even in the early stages.
