@sethfranum that wasn't the point i was making. it's that hdmi output is not an expensive feature to implement by any stretch of the imagination. even cheap emulation devices implement it! people would gladly have paid an additional $20 for hmdi out on the switch lite if it came to that. and yes, it was anti consumer of nintendo because they pigeonholed people into purchasing two consoles to get the features they wanted! feel free to defend this greedy corporate entity with every bad decision it makes though!
@BonzoBanana it's possible that nintendo will opt for a 720p screen for the switch 2 lite... which would be fine with a smaller screen in my opinion. what matters most is a decent PPI relative to screen size. running switch 2 games at 720p would give a decent performance boost and save on battery life. i think that is the best way to go about it so long as they don't cheap out and forgo video out/dock mode.
@N64-ROX many people wanted a smaller form factor and better battery life like a traditional handheld. the switch was too large for its own good. also, many don't care for the gimmicky joy-cons and wanted a proper d-pad. all these features were included with the lite, except for the lack of video out which is inexcusable.

@sethfranum a few hundred thousand dollars in r&d costs for a company worth billions (and in turn would sell millions of switch lite units) is not cost prohibited in any way, shape or form. nintendo simply didn't want people buying a cheaper, alternative console (that would also dock) and forced people to pay more for the original model if they wanted to game on their tv. it was just typical anti-consumer, nintendo behaviour. there are dozens upon dozens of cheap, sub $100 emulation handhelds, being released on a monthly basis from companies such as anbernic and they all have hdmi out as a standard!
i thought this released a while ago? at any rate, it's quite staggering that it required the expertise of a modder to implement a feature set that nintendo themselves should have released as a bare minimum. easily one of the biggest ball drops i have ever seen was not including hdmi out with the switch lite. just mind-numbing stuff.
@RasandeRose i don't think it will flop either. i just don't think it will keep up with switch 1 sales after the initial launch window and will have a hard time reaching 100m lifetime units sold. the novelty of the switch 1 cannot be replicated in the same way and all the great wii u games that got ported to the switch will not be available for nintendo to fall back on this time around. software will generally be more sparse because of this, not to mention the higher price point of everything is not doing nintendo any favours. there is a possibility that if the sales don't meet nintendo's expectations after year 1, there could be a price drop.
i will say, it is rather odd that nintendo is increasing the price of switch 1 hardware/software (in canada) after being on the market for 7 years, though. i imagine they are doing this because switch 1 sales continue to be strong in many markets and are outpacing switch 2. nintendo simply wants to capitalize on this in a greedy manner. it's absurd that such an old device (which never received an msrp drop after 7 years) would suddenly increasein price if it wasn't for nefarious reasons).
@babybilly every new console sells out. not much of an accomplishment there. it just means nintendo had more stock at launch this time compared to years past. switch 2 launch has been very uneventful to say the least with so much negativity surrounding it. switch 2 will most certainly not be reaching the sales milestones of the switch 1.
what a disaster for nintendo. they had 7 years to figure it out and yet here we are. then there's the screen lag (not present on og switch) which is making people question if there is a hardware issue on that front as well. better off waiting for a switch 2 lite, so long as it actually switches this time and isn't missing video out (which was such an absurdly stupid feature to remove with the og switch lite).
i assume s-e failed to give forever entertainment an adequate budget to get these remakes done proper. why even bother if the end result is so slapped together and mediocre? i guess some of the fans had hoped that these remakes would revive the franchise and possibly result in a new entry, but it's difficult to see that happening now. stick to front mission 1st (ds) and front mission 3 (ps1) for the better experience. unfortunately we are stuck with front mission 2 (remake) seeing as it never got a western release prior and the fan translation was never completed.
no problem. i'll stick to front mission 1st (ds) and front mission 3 (ps1) then. unfortunately, front mission 2 (ps1) was never released in the west and doesn't even have a fan trasnlation available... so, we are at the mercy of the front mission 2 remake, but everything else can and should be skipped. it's not like supporting these shoddy remakes would ever bring this franchise back in any meaningful way... at best you might get a third rate mobile quality front mission side game which people would only scoff at. no thanks.
perhaps people don't want to re-purchase or pay premium prices for old games that they already own? there is nothing fresh with these old ports. just a guess, though.
every new console sells out, especially in a world of influencers getting their hands on it for work purposes. check back in a year or two and see where it's at for a better evauluation. typical sensationalist headlines for the hype machine. nothing more.
"...the PSP version did also have some big performance issues..."
not really. it had some slowdown during various magic attacks but nothing major to ruin the experience. a fan patch was created ages ago that fixed this problem. it sounds like war of the lions will remain the superior version then. how sad.
people will defend nintendo no matter what they do huh haha. this is clearly by design. the big three are phasing out physical media to cut out used game sales entirely. the ps5 will likely be the last sony console to launch with an optical drive out of the box. when the ps6 launches, most people won't bother to pay the extra $100 to get the drive (if they can even find one for sale due to artificial scarcity and lack of supply). this means that the scales will tip even further towards a digital-only platform, outside of a few premium and limited run releases strictly for rich collectors....
well, nintendo is likely going down the same road as sony and will do its part to discourage physical collecting as much as possible. this fate was written a while ago now, but it's that much more sad to see as it comes to fruition. one of the last chaming things left in the AAA space (as it has become just so soulless and by the numbers for a good 15-20 years now) was the ability to purchase physical media and have a little collection to show for it if you so desired.
with all that said, it is good news that you can still trade and re-sell game key cards. that ability makes this dire news a bit easier to stomach and to be honest, contradicts my first point about nintendo going all in on digital-only sales... at least for now... it sort of feels like a PR move not to lose all the goodwill in one blow. but in time, i am certain nintendo will ensure that game key cards are tired to a single account because... why wouldn't they?
well he's not wrong! gta vi has a budget in the $1.5b territory. yes, billion! whereas nintendo's highest budget game in its entire history only cost $120m or so... zelda breath of the wild has had its budget estimated to be $120m. so if we are talking sheer numbers here and what games actually JUSTIFY a price increase, gta vi is certainly the best candidate you are ever going to find. nintendo had no reason to increase its pricing to the extent that it did with mario kart when you consider that the budget likely didn't even exceed $100m.
don't know why there's a rush. there is only one game worth playing at launch. you don't need additional storage for that so might as well wait for price drops on the sd card in the fall.
sorry, that is a complete joke. there are 1500 games with an unknown compability status which is absolutely insane just weeks prior to launch. why are people so confident that the switch 2 will be reliable for backwards compatibility? it's just way too early to know for sure and even nintendo hasn't got a clue.
@electrolite77 absolutely. and let's face it, a home console version won't make the most sense seeing as this device is called the "switch" but i'd argue that the "switch lite" also didn't make any sense since it couldn't "switch" either haha. so what does it matter? let's just hope the switch 2 lite will actually have video output this time around
as if people have the will power to abide by this rule haha. many publishers will opt for the game key model to save on costs and will simply not offer a true physical copy. by not purchasing the game, you run the risk of putting the publisher out of business, even if their work was good and deserving of praise. seems like a slippery slope, especially at a time where physical media is on its way out whether we like it or not. make no mistake, this is the last generation with physical media for nintendo, sony and microsoft. if we do get physical media on the ps6, it will be sparse and/or limited to special edition pre-orders perhaps.
well, there is an easy solution to the high asking price of the switch 2. make a switch 2 lite with tv out and sell it for $329USD. no removable joycons. no HDR screen. hell, remove the 120hz nonsense as well — there was no need for it since there isn't any noticable difference between 60fps and 120fps to most eyes anyways.
OR
please, make a switch 2 non-portable, home console. pack all the guts into a simple box for $299USD. bascially, do what sony did with the vita in turning it into a vita tv. nintendo has many possibile solutions to fall back on should the high barrier to entry screw up their sales projections.
here's hoping the switch 2 sales severely underperform and nintendo is forced to drop the price CONSIDERABLY across the board, including on its software. this looks to me like a failed experiment in the making and could be worse than the 3ds launch. most people are perfectly content with their old switch and will not be upgrading. the enthusiast crowd isn't enough to recreate the same magic the second time around. i think those with some logic understand this. to put it another way: nintendo's major success with the switch 1 (and people being less enticed to upgrade, especially with the steep barrier to entry) will be detrimental to the switch 2, at least if nothing changes on the pricing front. keep in mind that there is bound to be a good amount of cross gen games that hit the switch 1 for the next couple of years as well.
with the graphical fidelity of a 10 year old game running at a native 900p (or less)? AI upscaled with an unknown level of vaseline (smooth filter) overlayed? well, in that case, yes. 4k/60 woot!
seriously, this 4k talk does not suit nintendo at all and those who know are well aware you aren't going to get a decent 4k upscale with anything but a few nintendo 1st party releases.
umm nope. mario kart world is the only game worth playing from the launch lineup. why would anyone be interested in 5-10 year old ports or remasters? agreed with others that say switch 2 is quantity over quality. heck, super mario world, one of the greatest platformers ever made, makes the snes launch better than the switch 2 even. switch 1 with breath of the wild is arguably a better launch as well but remains to be seen how good mario kart world actually is. gonna be tough to outdo 8 on day one. it took YEARS to get to that point and it won't surprise me if mario kart 8 remains the best mario kart game of all time.
i'm guessing the majority of voters weren't even alive when the snes was released and don't know what they are missing with the likes of f-zero and mario world in 1990.
@electrolite77 @skywake yea the switch 2 likely sits in between the ps4 and ps4 pro power wise. i would be very cautious of the curated footage they show running though. nintendo is going to ensure that nothing "bad" gets released prior to launch. this is a critical marketing period afterall. but we all know the demanding games are going to have some serious compromises and performance issues in various areas. also, the reason cyberpunk struggled as much as it did on ps4 was partly because they failed to optimize it...like at all. the switch port will obviously get more care since its being featured as a launch window game. i would keep expectations in check nontheless.
last i heard, the switch 2 was on par with the base ps4 power wise. maybe slightly better but the ps4 pro might be pushing it. i don't even know why they are marketing 4k for the switch 2 but here we are. best you are going to get is a very poor 4k upscale or native 4k for the most archaic looking indie games. let's put it this way... if the base ps4 had trouble running a game (cyberpunk, etc etc) then so will the switch 2. probably.
i've been pushed outside of the mainstream AAA space over the past 4 years due to not being happy with the direction sony (and the AAA industry at large) was going in. as a long time playstation fan, i can say with confidence that the ps5 has been a failure for me on so many levels. i skipped the switch (despite having interest in many titles) and was looking forward to jumping on the switch 2 train... but with this news i'll likely be holding out and going back to my life as a "retro gamer" and by that i mean, anything that is from the last generation or older (most notably ps1/ps2/ps3/ps4/nes/snes/gamcube/wii), including handhelds (gba/ds/3ds/psp/vita primarily). games were just that much more inventive and interesting in the years past in my opnion. that said, the indie scene is killing it as well and there is no shortage of interesting experience in that space. there's certainly something for everyone. anyways, the main point i'm making is that one could spend a lifetime catching up on legacy games and arguably have a more enjoyable time as compared to today's AAA space and all the barriers to entry that come with it.
@dudujencarelli you're right, mario kart is a bigger seller. that wasn't my point, though. my point was: sony's 1st party releases have budgets of $200-300m which is FAR greater than anything nintendo puts out. tears of the kingdom is likely their biggest budget release at around $150m. yet, despite all that, sony prices its software more fairly at $70USD whereas nintendo has the gaul to exploit its loyal customers by an additional $10USD when there is no justifiable reason to do so. there is only 1 game that could get away with that and be considered somewhat justified...and that game is GTA6 since the budget is in the ballpark of $2b! so unless nintendo is making games on the scale of GTA6, they need to humble themselves and come back down to earth... it appears nintendo doesn't mind alientating the majority of its customer base which will result in sales declines across the board.
@Goron_Garbage_Man i see your point, but the customer was essentially paying for a game AND a PCB board, rom and chipset (some chipsets were costlier than others) with every snes cart purchased... the pricing in the 90s was nuts but it really is an apples to oranges comparison. true, compared to that era, everything will look on par or cheaper today in the gaming space, but once you apply the context, the argument falls flat and wouldn't be something i'd subscribe to. we should be looking at this from a business practices standpoint. companies like nintendo and sony need to find ways to be sustainable with their development cycles, not push all the excessive costs onto customers (or worse, exploit them because they can) because they will reach a breaking point and shoot themselves in the foot. i believe nintendo has hit that threshold with the switch 2.
@dudujencarelli you are incorrect. nintendo doesn't make games in the budget range of naughty dog, insomniac or santa monica, yet they want to charge $10 more than sony for their own games (sony's 1st party budgets are likely more than twice that of nintendo's on average)... i don't know what else to tell you. nintendo has no business making this move, especially in this very bad economic climate. switch 2 will not fare well after the initial hype dies down a few months after launch. not with those asking prices. nintendo absolutely cannot and will not recreate the novelty and excitement that they garnered from the switch 1. they should be trying harder here but looks like greed and laziness has prevailed. every other console has to fail for nintendo i suppose... gamecube, wiiu and now switch 2...
@Goron_Garbage_Man @dudujencarelli it's a poor comparison because carts were cutting edge tech in the 90s... especially the carts that had additional graphics chips. you were paying for the hardware inside the carts and that is what escalated the pricing to absurd levels back in the 90s. today, there are no excuses for the price gouching to this degree since the storage media is dirt cheap to manufacture by comparison. not all AAA games are made equal or have the same budgets behind them, yet publishers want to act like they are all cut from the same cloth and command the same pricing model. in the case of nintendo, charging an additional $20 tax is just greed plain and simple. hopefully the switch 2 launch will backfire like the 3ds did and they will be forced to scramble and slash the price in a major way if they don't want it to fail.
funny how americans have finally woken up to high prices... they have been spoiled by their high valued dollar for far too long. here in canada, we have been dealing with $90+tax ps5 games the past 4 years... that works out to $102CAD taxes in for a new AAA ps5 release. switch 2 games will cost us $130CAD!!! hahahahah...yeaaaa....nope. nintendo can screw off with this nonsense. piracy and emulation is going to be rampant on this console.
@LastFootnote agreed. we are all nintendo fans here, some more than others... but we just have different ideas on what the hardware is worth, considering the competition and the performance that is available at a similar price point. most people are going to buy a switch for the nintendo exclusives full stop (of course). i imagine the 3rd party AAA (ps5 releases) on the switch 2 will be just as sparse as the AAA (ps4 releases) on the switch 1. that is to say, not many because of all the work and compromises that would be required to port them over. that said, there could certainly be a bunch of 3rd party ps4 era games ported to the switch but at this point in time, some 5-10 years later, how much actual interest will there be for those titles? well, if you never owned another console that isn't nintendo, then sure, but i wonder how many nintendo owners only ever owned nintendo products and not a pc, xbox or playstation to compliment them...
but yea, i would absolutely not expect many 3rd party ps5 games to find their way to the switch considering the fact even the base ps5 has struggled to run many of them due to poor otpmization (which has become common place these days in the AAA space other than 1st party nintendo and playstation studios games, generally speaking). anyways, final thing i'll say is: i think nintendo would be wise to price the switch 2 at $350USD so not to alienate the majority of gamers out there and to be "fair" as far as the performance you are getting in 2025, when a greater performance to cost ratio exists out there from the competitors (including steam deck, which starts at $350USD)... especially when there are MANY people who just want to play their switch 2 games docked and have no interest in the portable aspet. a dedicated switch 2 console (non handheld) that acts as a cheaper alternative for those who want it would be awesome to see as well!
@LastFootnote may i ask where you found a brand new ps4 at that price? i hope that wasn't ebay or amazon 3rd party prices haha. naw, the MSRP of the ps4 slim was $299USD in 2016. the price went as low as $199USD a few years later. that's old tech by today's standards... the switch 2 is competing with 2013 performance standards but will have the price tag of a ps5... well, if you think that makes sense, all the power to you
@LastFootnote the screen is $50 and the speakers are $20 at best. the guts of the switch 2 is going to be equivalent to a base ps4. let's put this into context: the base ps4 is roughly 5X less powerful than the ps5 (by measure of TFLOPS), meaning, the switch 2 will be roughly 5X less powerful than the base ps5, yet will be retailing at a similar price point in many countries. let that sink in. it doesn't make sense and if one views the hardware objectively, the switch 2 will be grossly overpriced at $400USD.
nintendo really needs to evaluate the currencies around the world. $400USD is equivalent to the $580CAD ps5 slim (digital) here in canada. isn't that an absurd thought that the switch 2 will be priced alongside the ps5? anything more than $300-350USD is going to be a tough sell for everyone but the most hardcore enthusiasts and we all know that the majority of switch users are casuals. i'll sit this launch period out. sales will likely slump after year 1 and nintendo will have no choice but to drop the price. hopefully this is a 3DS sort of situation and they course correct when they realize they overvalued their product.
@MurasakiTakeshi that would be great. but tv out needs to be the #1 priority, or else it is technically not a switch haha. in the meantime, you can check out the "super5oled" mod. its a switch lite mod that allows you to swap out the LCD screen for an OLED — there is a version with tv out as well. it will run you about $100USD which is reasonable. good for people who like to tinker
seems like nintendo's quality control is slipping with all the outsourcing it's been doing lately. the good old nintendo polish appears to be something we can't always rely on when unproven 3rd parties are involved.

what a disaster for nintendo. they had 7 years to figure it out and yet here we are. then there's the screen lag (not present on og switch) which is making people question if there is a hardware issue on that front as well. better off waiting for a switch 2 lite, so long as it actually switches this time and isn't missing video out (which was such an absurdly stupid feature to remove with the og switch lite).
Re: Review: Front Mission 3: Remake (Switch) - Didn't Get The Love & Time This Tactical RPG Deserved
i assume s-e failed to give forever entertainment an adequate budget to get these remakes done proper. why even bother if the end result is so slapped together and mediocre? i guess some of the fans had hoped that these remakes would revive the franchise and possibly result in a new entry, but it's difficult to see that happening now. stick to front mission 1st (ds) and front mission 3 (ps1) for the better experience. unfortunately we are stuck with front mission 2 (remake) seeing as it never got a western release prior and the fan translation was never completed.
Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Appears To Replace 2D Art Assets With Generative AI
no problem. i'll stick to front mission 1st (ds) and front mission 3 (ps1) then. unfortunately, front mission 2 (ps1) was never released in the west and doesn't even have a fan trasnlation available... so, we are at the mercy of the front mission 2 remake, but everything else can and should be skipped. it's not like supporting these shoddy remakes would ever bring this franchise back in any meaningful way... at best you might get a third rate mobile quality front mission side game which people would only scoff at. no thanks.
Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"
@AhabSpampurse but the response time is worse than the OG switch screen from 7 years ago... that's not acceptable.
Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"
perhaps people don't want to re-purchase or pay premium prices for old games that they already own? there is nothing fresh with these old ports. just a guess, though.
Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Won't Slow Down, Surpasses 1 Million Consoles Sold
every new console sells out, especially in a world of influencers getting their hands on it for work purposes. check back in a year or two and see where it's at for a better evauluation. typical sensationalist headlines for the hype machine. nothing more.
Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster Controversially Cuts War Of The Lions Content
"...the PSP version did also have some big performance issues..."
not really. it had some slowdown during various magic attacks but nothing major to ruin the experience. a fan patch was created ages ago that fixed this problem. it sounds like war of the lions will remain the superior version then. how sad.
Re: Rumour: New Leak May Explain Why So Many Switch 2 Physicals Are Game Key Cards
people will defend nintendo no matter what they do huh haha. this is clearly by design. the big three are phasing out physical media to cut out used game sales entirely. the ps5 will likely be the last sony console to launch with an optical drive out of the box. when the ps6 launches, most people won't bother to pay the extra $100 to get the drive (if they can even find one for sale due to artificial scarcity and lack of supply). this means that the scales will tip even further towards a digital-only platform, outside of a few premium and limited run releases strictly for rich collectors....
well, nintendo is likely going down the same road as sony and will do its part to discourage physical collecting as much as possible. this fate was written a while ago now, but it's that much more sad to see as it comes to fruition. one of the last chaming things left in the AAA space (as it has become just so soulless and by the numbers for a good 15-20 years now) was the ability to purchase physical media and have a little collection to show for it if you so desired.
with all that said, it is good news that you can still trade and re-sell game key cards. that ability makes this dire news a bit easier to stomach and to be honest, contradicts my first point about nintendo going all in on digital-only sales... at least for now... it sort of feels like a PR move not to lose all the goodwill in one blow. but in time, i am certain nintendo will ensure that game key cards are tired to a single account because... why wouldn't they?
Re: Former Rockstar Dev Throws Shade At Mario Kart World, Says New GTA Will Be Worth The Price
well he's not wrong! gta vi has a budget in the $1.5b territory. yes, billion! whereas nintendo's highest budget game in its entire history only cost $120m or so... zelda breath of the wild has had its budget estimated to be $120m. so if we are talking sheer numbers here and what games actually JUSTIFY a price increase, gta vi is certainly the best candidate you are ever going to find. nintendo had no reason to increase its pricing to the extent that it did with mario kart when you consider that the budget likely didn't even exceed $100m.
Re: MicroSD Express Cards Are Selling Out Thanks To Switch 2 Fever
don't know why there's a rush. there is only one game worth playing at launch. you don't need additional storage for that so might as well wait for price drops on the sd card in the fall.
Re: Switch 2's Backwards Compatibility List Provides Updates On Two Titles
sorry, that is a complete joke. there are 1500 games with an unknown compability status which is absolutely insane just weeks prior to launch. why are people so confident that the switch 2 will be reliable for backwards compatibility? it's just way too early to know for sure and even nintendo hasn't got a clue.
Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch 2's Launch Price Compare To Past Nintendo Systems?
@electrolite77 absolutely. and let's face it, a home console version won't make the most sense seeing as this device is called the "switch" but i'd argue that the "switch lite" also didn't make any sense since it couldn't "switch" either haha. so what does it matter? let's just hope the switch 2 lite will actually have video output this time around
Re: "We MUST Resist Buying These Game-Key Releases", Says GamesMaster Host
as if people have the will power to abide by this rule haha. many publishers will opt for the game key model to save on costs and will simply not offer a true physical copy. by not purchasing the game, you run the risk of putting the publisher out of business, even if their work was good and deserving of praise. seems like a slippery slope, especially at a time where physical media is on its way out whether we like it or not. make no mistake, this is the last generation with physical media for nintendo, sony and microsoft. if we do get physical media on the ps6, it will be sparse and/or limited to special edition pre-orders perhaps.
Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch 2's Launch Price Compare To Past Nintendo Systems?
well, there is an easy solution to the high asking price of the switch 2. make a switch 2 lite with tv out and sell it for $329USD. no removable joycons. no HDR screen. hell, remove the 120hz nonsense as well — there was no need for it since there isn't any noticable difference between 60fps and 120fps to most eyes anyways.
OR
please, make a switch 2 non-portable, home console. pack all the guts into a simple box for $299USD. bascially, do what sony did with the vita in turning it into a vita tv. nintendo has many possibile solutions to fall back on should the high barrier to entry screw up their sales projections.
Re: Zelda: BOTW Switch 2 Edition Won't Include The DLC, Nintendo Confirms
here's hoping the switch 2 sales severely underperform and nintendo is forced to drop the price CONSIDERABLY across the board, including on its software. this looks to me like a failed experiment in the making and could be worse than the 3ds launch. most people are perfectly content with their old switch and will not be upgrading. the enthusiast crowd isn't enough to recreate the same magic the second time around. i think those with some logic understand this. to put it another way: nintendo's major success with the switch 1 (and people being less enticed to upgrade, especially with the steep barrier to entry) will be detrimental to the switch 2, at least if nothing changes on the pricing front. keep in mind that there is bound to be a good amount of cross gen games that hit the switch 1 for the next couple of years as well.
Re: Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price
"4K resolution at 60 frames a second"
with the graphical fidelity of a 10 year old game running at a native 900p (or less)? AI upscaled with an unknown level of vaseline (smooth filter) overlayed? well, in that case, yes. 4k/60 woot!
seriously, this 4k talk does not suit nintendo at all and those who know are well aware you aren't going to get a decent 4k upscale with anything but a few nintendo 1st party releases.
Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?
umm nope. mario kart world is the only game worth playing from the launch lineup. why would anyone be interested in 5-10 year old ports or remasters? agreed with others that say switch 2 is quantity over quality. heck, super mario world, one of the greatest platformers ever made, makes the snes launch better than the switch 2 even. switch 1 with breath of the wild is arguably a better launch as well but remains to be seen how good mario kart world actually is. gonna be tough to outdo 8 on day one. it took YEARS to get to that point and it won't surprise me if mario kart 8 remains the best mario kart game of all time.
i'm guessing the majority of voters weren't even alive when the snes was released and don't know what they are missing with the likes of f-zero and mario world in 1990.
Re: Nvidia: Switch 2 Has "10x The Graphics Performance Of The Nintendo Switch"
Re: Nvidia: Switch 2 Has "10x The Graphics Performance Of The Nintendo Switch"
last i heard, the switch 2 was on par with the base ps4 power wise. maybe slightly better but the ps4 pro might be pushing it. i don't even know why they are marketing 4k for the switch 2 but here we are. best you are going to get is a very poor 4k upscale or native 4k for the most archaic looking indie games. let's put it this way... if the base ps4 had trouble running a game (cyberpunk, etc etc) then so will the switch 2. probably.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@Goron_Garbage_Man agreed. well said.
i've been pushed outside of the mainstream AAA space over the past 4 years due to not being happy with the direction sony (and the AAA industry at large) was going in. as a long time playstation fan, i can say with confidence that the ps5 has been a failure for me on so many levels. i skipped the switch (despite having interest in many titles) and was looking forward to jumping on the switch 2 train... but with this news i'll likely be holding out and going back to my life as a "retro gamer" and by that i mean, anything that is from the last generation or older (most notably ps1/ps2/ps3/ps4/nes/snes/gamcube/wii), including handhelds (gba/ds/3ds/psp/vita primarily). games were just that much more inventive and interesting in the years past in my opnion. that said, the indie scene is killing it as well and there is no shortage of interesting experience in that space. there's certainly something for everyone. anyways, the main point i'm making is that one could spend a lifetime catching up on legacy games and arguably have a more enjoyable time as compared to today's AAA space and all the barriers to entry that come with it.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
funny how americans have finally woken up to high prices... they have been spoiled by their high valued dollar for far too long. here in canada, we have been dealing with $90+tax ps5 games the past 4 years... that works out to $102CAD taxes in for a new AAA ps5 release. switch 2 games will cost us $130CAD!!! hahahahah...yeaaaa....nope. nintendo can screw off with this nonsense. piracy and emulation is going to be rampant on this console.
Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Cost "$400 Or More"
@LastFootnote agreed. we are all nintendo fans here, some more than others... but we just have different ideas on what the hardware is worth, considering the competition and the performance that is available at a similar price point. most people are going to buy a switch for the nintendo exclusives full stop (of course). i imagine the 3rd party AAA (ps5 releases) on the switch 2 will be just as sparse as the AAA (ps4 releases) on the switch 1. that is to say, not many because of all the work and compromises that would be required to port them over. that said, there could certainly be a bunch of 3rd party ps4 era games ported to the switch but at this point in time, some 5-10 years later, how much actual interest will there be for those titles? well, if you never owned another console that isn't nintendo, then sure, but i wonder how many nintendo owners only ever owned nintendo products and not a pc, xbox or playstation to compliment them...
but yea, i would absolutely not expect many 3rd party ps5 games to find their way to the switch considering the fact even the base ps5 has struggled to run many of them due to poor otpmization (which has become common place these days in the AAA space other than 1st party nintendo and playstation studios games, generally speaking). anyways, final thing i'll say is: i think nintendo would be wise to price the switch 2 at $350USD so not to alienate the majority of gamers out there and to be "fair" as far as the performance you are getting in 2025, when a greater performance to cost ratio exists out there from the competitors (including steam deck, which starts at $350USD)... especially when there are MANY people who just want to play their switch 2 games docked and have no interest in the portable aspet. a dedicated switch 2 console (non handheld) that acts as a cheaper alternative for those who want it would be awesome to see as well!
Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Cost "$400 Or More"
@LastFootnote may i ask where you found a brand new ps4 at that price? i hope that wasn't ebay or amazon 3rd party prices haha. naw, the MSRP of the ps4 slim was $299USD in 2016. the price went as low as $199USD a few years later. that's old tech by today's standards... the switch 2 is competing with 2013 performance standards but will have the price tag of a ps5... well, if you think that makes sense, all the power to you
Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Cost "$400 Or More"
@LastFootnote the screen is $50 and the speakers are $20 at best. the guts of the switch 2 is going to be equivalent to a base ps4. let's put this into context: the base ps4 is roughly 5X less powerful than the ps5 (by measure of TFLOPS), meaning, the switch 2 will be roughly 5X less powerful than the base ps5, yet will be retailing at a similar price point in many countries. let that sink in. it doesn't make sense and if one views the hardware objectively, the switch 2 will be grossly overpriced at $400USD.
Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Cost "$400 Or More"
nintendo really needs to evaluate the currencies around the world.
Re: Analyst States That Switch 2's Price Won't "Really Matter" For Early Adopters
Re: Analyst States That Switch 2's Price Won't "Really Matter" For Early Adopters
@armondo36 the ps4 pro power rumours are being debunked. we can't say for certain, but its very unlikely. more like a base ps4? yes.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?
seems like nintendo's quality control is slipping with all the outsourcing it's been doing lately. the good old nintendo polish appears to be something we can't always rely on when unproven 3rd parties are involved.
