Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition

OnlyManWhoCan

This is one of my top 5 games ever. It certainly isn't the best games ever made - the reviews above are correct to point out how some gameplay and combat are as 2003 as it can be - but the game as a whole is a vibe that is a pleasure to return to, and I woke up at 6am yesterday so I could download it as soon as it went live.

I'm hoping that this remake means that IF a sequel gets released, its more in keeping with the style of BG&E 1, rather than the horrid 2017 trailer.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Endless Ocean: Luminous?

OnlyManWhoCan

I adored the first game - it was very special for me. When the new game was announced in that Direct I gasped! Since then, though, I haven't been that impressed with what I've seen? Sorry to be a bit shallow (lol) but the graphics seem like a real let down. All the videos are full of murk, which may be realistic, but I would like to have seen more crystal clear waters. It doesn't seem to have progressed much since last time.

If it was £20 cheaper I'd be considering it more, but at the moment it's not a high priority.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

OnlyManWhoCan

I desperately want to be wrong, but all the people looking forward to this are blindly optimistic.

Nothing we know so far can be counted as a slam dunk; everything must be paired with a caveat. Avi Arad has done some good stuff but also a lot of crap (especially in recent years). Wes Ball's upcoming Apes movie might be good, but everything he's done so far seems to indicate he's a jobbing director without a distinctive vision.

Sony Picture's blockbusters are usually dreck unless there's a Spider-Man in it, and then not always. At least we won't be getting their usually interminable product placement (maybe?)

I count myself a fan of the first 2 Jurassic World movies, but I still don't think the screenplays are great - they're fun popcorn flicks.

People who were banking on Ghibli making this were mad (especially after fumbling Tales of Earthsea), but I still think a classier animation house than Illumination could have made something special.

If just one of the 3 big announcements (Sony Pictures, Avi Arad, Wes Ball) was wholly positive I could be more optimistic but what I see is a perfect storm of mediocrity, not befitting the legendary status of Zelda.

Re: Sony Is Co-Financing Nintendo's Live-Action Zelda Movie

OnlyManWhoCan

Quality-wise Sony Pictures has far more misses than hits, and Avi Arad's track record with blockbusters is mostly average to bad, with some (SOME) great Spider-Man flicks. If they had a visionary director I'd be optimistic but Ball's work seems very average.

Nintendo could have done something exciting, but I fear this will be just as uninspired (but profitable) as this year's Mario movie.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

OnlyManWhoCan

I love sci-fi and horror, so the Metroid games are extremely my jam. Laser guns and salavating monsters? A pervasive sense of... Dread? Sign me up! But not everyone is into that aesthetic, and comparing Mario and Zelda to Metroid is like comparing The Simpsons to Futurama: no matter the quality the former is far more universal to the general population than the latter.

Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle

OnlyManWhoCan

What a fantastic review. Obviously I've not played it yet - on any format - but I love how this addresses the primary concern of any potential purchaser. I don't have a PlayStation or Xbox so I'm happy to get this on Switch, as I really enjoyed the 2016 port. As Chris points out, if you're not constantly in motion; running, ripping and tearing, you're playing it wrong!

Re: Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition

This was one of my favourite games on the PC and I can't WAIT for it to hit the Switch! It's one of the few movie adaptations that truly makes you feel like the source material's protagonist
