@rjejr "The fact that Romneys Bain Capital did the exact same thing to KB Toys is lost on people, all they want to blame is Amazon"
Was about to post these exact words.
So sad, and so brutal to see 33 thousand American jobs lost, and meanwhile those involved in the private equity firms (who buy these companies intending to gut and destroy them) continue to fly around in private jets in the lap of luxury..
I just want to point out that Twin Galaxies is a company. Not a single person, but a brand name, originally a store front arcade, later a website, and one that has exchanged owners (including Billy Mitchell for a time) and referees and it's employees a number of times over the last 30 plus years.
The issue at hand is Mitchell was apparently using a version of Mame, while claiming he was playing on original authentic hardware, for multiple different WR score submissions.
Honestly though, this whole situation is so convoluted and confusing, if you truely have a question or curiosity, better to head straight to the TG dispute thread where this is being discussed and read for yourself.
As a Donkey Kong arcade fan myself, I can see how some of these people/score keeping sites are taking this very seriously. I just hope things gets resolved as gracefully as possible.
And I agree that $20 isn't much money... BUT what the heck am I paying for?!?!?!
Nintendo is currently providing 'free' p2p access to the internet I already pay for, in a game I already paid for, on a system I already paid for.... but now that free access will soon come with 3 NES games (I already own and paid for 25 years ago) and will now be a paid service.....
Come on, throw me a bone! Give me some kind of insentive here Nintendo!!
But frankly, these types of wacky, creative fun ideas never really stopped, even when Nintendo started focusing on Videogames. From the early days of Hanafuda, to Yokoi's toys, Lazergun shooting ranges, all the way to stuff like eReader cards, Wii balance board, the 3DS's AR /camera games, Amiibo, and now Labo!
I have personally found Pinball video games to be much like racing video games. There are basically two groups, one that wants 'arcade' style fun gameplay, and the other that wants realistic 'simulation' style gameplay.
Do you want a fun video game that's kind of pretending to be Pinball? Or do you want to play a virtual Pinball Table simulator on your videogame console? Stuff from FarSight seems to be the latter. That being said, I much prefer when games recreate actual, existing Pinball tables... still waiting for Indiana Jones!
@Pod I couldn't agree more with this.. After playing the 2 DS Zelda games, then 3 more on 3DS, as well as the 2 HD remakes on WiiU, all of which used the second screen for items, inventory, and maps, I really liked having the top screen cleared of all the HUD stuff... Then they show off multiple gameplay and E3 videos for BotW utilizing the same second screen technique!!!.....only to drop it all in the last few months of development to make sure the Switch version is the 'superior' version. Huge disappointment. I can't wait for someone to look back at this and break down every little thing that was changed and removed from the WiiU version.
I'm pretty positive that this is a re-branding of the limited edition Disney Princess cereal Kellogg's released last year, that people now try to sell boxes on eBay for like $20 each...
Gotta love that the Switch is seemingly capable of replicating every single control option from every one of their previous consoles, from the NES to the Wii motion controls and DS touch screen, and yet it looks very much like the hackers will provide access to these games before Nintendo does.
Bummer for those of us eagerly awaiting VC for the last 8 months. And the next few still.
However, it also begs the question: why can't Nintendo get this stuff going right out of the gate? As you say, the Wii, DSi, 3DS, and WiiU all had this same exact issue. Now here we are with the Switch in the same position, barely starting to get the most basic of apps/services like 8+months in. And still no sign of VC anywhere in sight.
This also reminded me how much I miss the universal TV remote ability inside the WiiU GamePad.
Is this what people honestly think is happening? Like Shiggy is personally busy coding and programming the Netflix app support for them? And all the while, he's actively ignoring his own game development?!
I can see it now: "Well, now that I'm done with Mario Odyssey, I can get to work on that Hulu app everyone wants!"
Oh my, how quickly we forget that Nintendo themselves offered up stuff like Mario themed clocks, Warioware kitchen timers, and music metronomes on the DS. Not to mention streaming apps like Netflix, World News Channel, and Weather Channel apps for Wii.
Don't be silly guys, the more apps and services on Switch, the better for the system and it's user base as a whole.
"Do you think Nintendo will copy Sony and Microsoft's approach and release a slightly more powerful Switch in a few years?"
Seriously? Nintendo has released system revisions as far back as the FDS and Gameboy and continued to do so all the way through to the N3DS a couple years ago...
Nintendo fans who have been paying attention could tell you the Switch Mini/NewSwitch/Kid'sSwitch is only a matter of time!!
I came here hoping to see a Halloween discount for Fatal Frame Wii U myself. Full price for a download game that I would much rather have on a disc... but I know I will kick myself as soon as Nintendo shuts down the eShop, so full price it is I guess.
Super Star is fantastic, I only got into it a few years ago, and it's a shame I didn't play it back when I was a kid! It's so good!
The only issue I ever had with the Ultra version on DS was that they changed the control scheme...and gave no options to change it. So if you grew up playing the original KSS, playing KSSU takes quite a bit of getting used to. They did add some cool extra content though! Reminds me a lot of Yoshi's Island and it's control scheme for the GBA port..
I want to do this but I really only want to add like 3-5 games to the system..
Can anyone who's already done the hack tell me, Is it even worth the effort for so few extra games?
@ouenben Except I'm not. Every system ever has had controller adapters. Including SNES Classic. Buy one Wiimote to SNES adapter and a multitap. You're ready for the multiplayer hacks now!
Adding ROMS is cool and all, but these hackers need to work on the missing functionality of the games already available.
NES Classic has Gauntlet but is limited to only 2 players. Hackers, please address this. SNES Classic has Secret of Mana, lacking third player support. Hackers, again, this problem needs your assistance!
So stoked to play these Nintendo arcade originals!
Mario Bros is fantastic if you have a friend and are willing to invest in learning the gameplay, like most classic arcade games, the game's depth lies in the gameplay mechanics.
I feel like people are missing a major point when they throw out the 'I don't care, I don't really NEED it.' argument when it comes to apps on the Switch.
The focus should really be on the fact that Nintendo has repeatedly made this mistake, and early adopters of Nintendo's hardware have to yet again stand around twiddling their fingers (in between games) waiting for Nintendo get around to releasing miserably simple things like video streaming or web browsing. For years they have been damaging their own image (behind the times/doesn't listen to its own customer base) with something that could be fixed in a matter of hours. Some apps.
Did you have a Wii? You waited months if not years for Netflix. Did you have a 3DS at launch? You waited then too. A WiiU? Didn't even have eShop at launch, let alone waiting for streaming video services. Its 2017 and now you have a Switch! Guess what? Less available than on Wiiu's launch?!? And yes, even more waiting...
Unacceptable. When lowend tablets, phones, iPods, pc, Playstations and Xboxes, even TVs, all have these VERY basic functions, it's unacceptable to BS consumers like that. But if you're a Nintendo fan, you're gonna wait, regardless of if you want Netflix or not..
Have to say, I love love love that these games are being released.
These original PBCs are worth upwards of a couple hundred dollars each (if they even work).
Or pay $8 to play them on the go, without any of the issues surrounding the original hardware, on a brand new Nintendo system, for the first time ever released since the 1980s.
Come on now. The only legitimate complaint around here is that they are missing some key titles like the DK series, Popeye, Sky Skipper, etc.
As a Nintendo arcade collector, I am beyond excited.
Anyone who knows the history behind these games, understands the value here. These are major games in Nintendo's development history that have never been re-released ANYwhere before this. All of them are superior versions to the watered down versions people know and love from the NES. Titles like Popeye and Punch-out!! in particular, are vastly better in terms of graphic, sound, and gameplay.
Plus, if Hampster is the publisher, maybe there's a chance they can be the ones to finally clear up the mystery surrounding the original DK games and Ikagami's legal rights?
I also agree with the people who hope to soon see Nintendo's pre-Donkey Kong games, like Radar Scope, Sheriff, Monkey Magic, or Sky Skipper on Switch as well!!!
I think it's funny when people say 'it was only the golden age cause it was your generation".
SNES in the 90's was the golden age for me personally without a doubt, but the older I get, and the more I learn, I believe the true golden era for Video games was before my time in the early 80's in the arcade.
Tron, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Joust, Mario Bros, Defender, Ms.PacMan; Nothing quite like removing the systems and consoles from the equation and judging an entire era of gaming solely on it's actual quality of games!!
Waiting until like a month after a game launches to even announce the special edition console to go with it. Oh boy, I can't even pretend to be surprised anymore.
But that leaves a major unknown to us consumers. 1. Nintendo of America is so inept and backwards that it can't release its own products in line with the rest of the company worldwide?? Or 2. they intentionally held back, hoping to entice Splatoon fans who already invested to double dip on the Switch??
Poor timing either way...Nintendo just release the green/pink joycon ala cart and call it a day.
I'll probably get Spinmaster, used to play the hell out of this game in high school when my buddy worked at Shakey's Pizza! Such good co-op!
Also, can we please get an official statement from Nintendo regarding VC already? Secret of Mana collection, Namco Museum, and numerous NeoGeo titles are suggesting that almost everyone EXCEPT Nintendo are ready to put old Roms up to appease customer demand... and Nintendo's last word was "NES Dr.Mario in 2018!"... come on now.
I imagine this is great for people who have carts already.
For those who aren't fortunate enough to have collected HUNDREDS of dollars worth of SNES carts over the last decade, the $80 SNES Classic sounds like a good deal.
Oh wait, an unreleased StarFox game? Count all the cart collectors back in too!
I loved the original, and I can't wait to play the new one!
That being said, I have already read a few legitimate complaints from other reviews about the single player mode (still with the hard to find invisible stages?) online multiplayer (No improvement to the load-out in the lobby problem) and voice chat issues (wtf is going on there?)... That stuff alone makes me feel the 10/10 is a little misleading.
LOL at anyone who says Iwata wasn't a Nintendo legend long before (and after) his passing.
And obviously this dude was pretty passionate about his profession and let his words get away from him in a pretty unprofessional manner. I always loved the Oddworld games on PS1, but never bothered with them past that.
