Re: Platinum Games Teases The Wonderful 101 for Switch

Ogre

So, so, so many Wii U games that people "didn't get to play"...

It's a good thing Super Mario Odyssey is a thing, because if you invested at all in Nintendo last gen, right now Nintendo Switch looks like a portable Wii U with less games.

Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

Ogre

@Jaredfrogman
Square just released the Mana collection for Switch in Japan. Nintendo dropped support of the New3DS VC back in 2016, Wii U's VC back in March, just finished up the NES classic, deflected every question about Switch VC at E3, and now announces the SNES classic for the holiday season.

I genuinely believe there is no Virtual Console coming to Nintendo Switch.

Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

Ogre

Anyone want to help me recollect all the other products Nintendo has had totally-not-at-all-intentional scarcity issues with?

The Wii
Zelda N3DS
Fire Emblem LE
WiiU games (Pikmin3, Game and Wario, Luigi U)
WiiU GameCube adapter for Smash
Amiibos back in 2015
BotW Amiibos now in 2017
Nes Classic system
BotW XL Strategy Guide
Botw Master Edition
The Switch
SNES Classic
.....I know I'm forgetting something.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Super NES Classic Edition?

Ogre

So many things to consider!

1. They must have figured out the Super FX chip emulation issues, since Yoshi's Island, Mario RPG, and StarFox are all on there.
2. Dylan Cuthbert recently said in an interview that the ROM version of StarFox2 on the internet was incomplete. So is this an internal/different/more complete version of the game?
3.Secret of Mana is 3 players. How about a MultiTap???

Re: We Know There's An Appetite For Virtual Console On Switch, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

Ogre

Oh Nintendo... when was the last time they released a Virtual Console game anyway?

Oh yeah! They announced the VC service for New3DS (SNES support) in March of 2016 and then promptly stopped supporting it before the end of December 2016.

So! Nintendo supported their last VC service (on their most successful system) for less than a year, people..

I an not hopeful for the Switch VC.

Re: Metroid: Samus Returns Resurrects Game Boy Classic "In A Completely New Way", Says MercurySteam

Ogre

Super excited for this new Metroid 2 remake!!

And anyone questioning why this isn't on Switch only has to remind themselves of the 70 million little reasons (Plus the considerably lower development costs), VS the 3 million or so people who CURRENTLY have Switch (with a much higher dev cost AND $10 price mark up to cover that physical cartridge cost).

It's pretty clear why it's on 3DS. And I'm sure they'll port it over to Switch eventually, once they've made their money off 3DS owning Metroid fans.

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th June (North America)

Ogre

@JaxonH
Normally I would agree but there are ALREADY several WiiU games proving this untrue. And yes! Darksiders is a VERY good call as well!...All of this I will be kicking myself over in about a year.

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th June (North America)

Ogre

Just leaving my future-self a little note here:

I told you so. I told you to buy Cars 3 for Wii U before it became a triple digit collectors item. "Oh, it's just Cars tho, who cares?" "It's a physical retail WiiU game released late in June of 2017?!" "It doesn't even have the same basic co-op features the other console versions have!!?" "IT'S FULL PRICE!!??!!?"

Yep. I told you so.

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

Ogre

@Menchi187
Honestly, I'm just disappointed. I love Nintendo's games, I always have. I've got all their systems, more carts and discs than I can count, and a Donkey Kong machine in my living room.

But as a lifelong fan, someone who supported their last console especially, I'm not seeing them go above and beyond like they need to, I'm just seeing the same vicious cycle all over again.

Virtual Console AND Netflix-style services/Paid Subscriptions/cloud storage/discount program for re-downloading/ Netflix and Hulu, etc (these are all fairly basic offerings that other companies and platforms, with much less money and resources, currently provide) should have been ready to go on Switch's launch day...not "sometime next year".

Nintendo is literally a billion dollar company. I just want them to occasionally act like one.

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

Ogre

@Menchi187
so true.. here we go again, unfortunately.

Nintendo's support of the Virtual Console has been a lazy second thought at best. The Wii, DSi, 3DS, WiiU, and N3DS were all drip fed VC classic content and suffered slow, premature, miserable, unfulfilled deaths.

Now we are being asked to wait until 2018, so Nintendo can figure out how to add in stuff like 'online features' to old ROMS?? Online features that now apply only to NES games apparently?

Re: Nintendo Reveals More Details About its Paid Online Service

Ogre

Man....Things aren't looking good for Virtual Console. After the drip-feed of content that was made available, bit by bit, for the Wii, then the 3DS, then WiiU, I have no faith in Nintendo to make this work well.
Add to that the lengthy wait times (and flatline death) of the 3D classics series and N3DS' SNES VC, and things like 'online features' for classic games start to feel more like speed bumps and more wait time.
Seems to me like Nintendo's VC games are going to come out EVEN SLOWER than ever before.

Re: E3 is Coming, Which Means Anonymous Super Smash Bros. Switch 'Screenshots'

Ogre

The point everyone is missing is this:
These screens don't need to be real. Nintendo is going to start porting Smash to the Switch the very second it doesn't have a new game on the horizon.

It's a future proof, stop-gap title. Just like Mario Kart 8, it's been a profitable, finished product for years already. They just take some time to spruce up the graphics, maybe add a new character or level and DONE. They know it will sell gangbusters regardless of the conditions of it's launch and at full price, no less.

The only downside is, seemingly, Nintendo is partly relying on churning out some of their previous works, instead of going 110% on their new titles and new creative ideas for the Switch.

Re: Super Nintendo World Amusement Park Trademark Reveals More Details

Ogre

@Muddy_4_Ever
Couldn't have said it better myself. While I'm sure Universal will come up with some great stuff, there is little doubt it will boil down to some version of a 3D screen based ride, which is far less appealing/exciting to me as a theme park fan (as well as a Nintendo fan), than the potential alternatives that would be made possible by Disney's Imagineers and Disney's money.

Re: 650+ Target Stores Get a Mario Kart Makeover in North America

Ogre

Cool idea, but you gotta love NOA for waiting 3 entire years to properly advertise and market one of the most accessible products they produce.

Mario Kart 8 along with Breath of the Wild, Lego City, and the inevitable Smash Bros 'remaster' are making me wish Nintendo had a little more to offer up for those of us who didn't jump ship and abandon them during the last 4 years.

Re: Doubt Is Thrown On The Exact Story Behind The Creation Of Donkey Kong

Ogre

So Radar Scope failed, Miyamoto came up with a concept for a Popeye arcade game and won over his boss. King Fisher wouldn't give up the rights to Popeye, so Miyamoto redesigns Popeye into Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong becomes a hit, King Fisher changes its mind about the licensing, Miyamoto then creates a proper Popeye game.

Is that it?

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

Ogre

I just want to point out that the images online showing the screen portion of the unit has 2 small slots on either side for speakers, as well as what seems to be a single off-centered camera lens!! Looks a lot like a cell phone camera and I haven't seen anyone report on that feature yet!!

I genuinely believe this system will support motion controls and touchscreen as well. It's too perfect an opportunity to re-sell every game in nintendo's past console libraries!

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Donkey Kong

Ogre

As a Donkey Kong arcade fan, this was a really great article! However, I'm fairly sure Ikegami Tsushinki was a developer/company, not simply a single man.
The story behind DK and it's confusing history are something I always find interesting and exciting to learn about! New info and stories seem to come to light every few years!

Re: Ninterview: Ste Pickford On The Ever-Expanding World Of Plok

Ogre

Great interview!! I've still got my boxed copy of Plok I picked up at the mall in 92'. Plok has always been a huge favorite of mine and even in the wave of 'me too' platformers, Plok was always a stand out game. I remember emailing one of the brothers years ago trying to find an unfinished ROM of Fleapit even! I will have to pick these comics up. I would love to see another game in the series! And come on.. That music!!!
