This has been covered in other sites and YT videos before, I saw a lot of that stuff in a "Did you know gaming" video. Nice read if you haven't stumbled upon with such sites before, though. At least is not a creepypasta or fan theory.
@rjejr I don't hate him or his decision, in fact, I applaud it. I'm only saying that I don't like that this sudden ethics thing doesn't go beyond leaks and gossip and it should. What HollywoodHogan and I didn't like much too is that this is over old news, that's why he went ironic and put the OLD darn dress thing, because of your response I assume you didn't get it.
@ThomasBW84 So, ethics will only apply to rumors in the future. Well, I guess you have to pay the hosting and rumors (and official news) usually give no revenue at all. Payola does, though.
@BaffleBlend The Sony letters were not from Wikileaks, they were from the North Korean hacking. I agree with you about Wikileaks, though, but not at a 100%. The people need to know about some of those leaks but not all of them, that's were ethics come in handy.
@DESS-M-8 What would have made more sense is to have written about a complete ethics check over the articles in general, not just a nearly forgotten single article.
@dariusq Ethics, like subtly advertising an NES hombrew cart made in 2014 as if it was the first and only project of its kind ever? I'm surprised they don't cover repros too as news articles.
@SethNintendo The problem like always is not the movie studio (at least not 100%), is the people who write or direct and sometimes the ones who make the cast. Fantastic Four and X-Men were both from Fox, just one of those sagas is really good.
It's nice to see you made this decision but I gotta say I'm a little surprised. Some news articles have given me the impression that you have questionable ethics or that everything goes, I would have expected those leaks to appear with the wierdness tag.
@unrandomsam The LaserActive also allowed for CD-ROM^2, Super CD-ROM^2 and LD-ROM^2 for PC Engine/TG-16 and Mega/Sega CD and Mega/Sega LD for MD/Genesis. The SNS/SFC never had the CD add-on so putting a module on the LaserActive would have been a quite pointless.
Holy crap! I've just gone to the page of these guys, they are selling it for 230.63 pounds. Probably a sealed one would cost less. This was something some crook made in his garage, it's not like Miyamoto or Sakurai at least signed it. Keep spending like this, staff of NL, and you won't be able to pay the hosting fees. If you want it so bad, you could make the pattern with photoshop or something, print it, cut it, put it over a $50 N64 from a garage sale, paint it, remove the pattern and that's it. Of course for NL, they wouldn't be getting the share they will get from the moron who does fall for this scam. Shame on you, guys.
Customizations might be cool, but in my opinion, selling them as if they were a extremely rare collectors item is a rip off, they are nothing but plain regular systems with painting or decals on them, it's like if someone sells a regular $5 CD but adds a CD-R with a new mix of the songs and adds a custom homemade booklet and sells it to you for $60. In the future, people will be restoring consoles from these customizations because the real unaltered item will be more appraised, they do it now with bikes, cars, vending machines or jukeboxes. You pay $600 for this today but because they ruined it for you, in a couple of years people will be offering you far less money than what you would get for the regular thing. It may look cool but its damaged goods.
I heard about this back in the day, in EGM they said it was a portable SFC. The peripheral rundown in the article sounds like speculation to me. Just because it had an "EXT" connector, it doesn't mean it was to make it a computer.
The projected price tag or the choice of the Super Game Boy project over it could have been the reasons for which it was never released or maybe it was the use of a DBZ cart in the demo that scared investment away (just kidding, DBZ fans, but you have to admit those SFC fighting games are not that good).
@sketchturner It's a shame it will only take someone to rip the ROM to ruin all this, although there is not much of a market anyway.
If they release a digital version of it, I hope they use the original hardware. Maybe most people won't notice, but the Super, the Color and emulators don't sound as good as the original 1989 version, those even had a pin that allowed for extra sound in the cartridge.
That's what happens when they release a small update to an existing and popular system. The New 3DS is gonna join the club along with the Videopac+, Supergrafx and DSi. I'm definitively keeping my "old" 3DS and buy a PS Vita instead. With those sales, I can't understand why some say that the Vita is a failed system.
This is not new, these kind of GB carts have been around for over a decade. Anamanaguchi uses something similar for both the NES and GB.
EDIT: Sorry, I thought this was a music-making cart. It is quite a crazy yet-nice idea, too bad it wasn't released back in the day.
Poor guy. He should start a crowdfunding for the laser removal. Drinking is so bad, it makes you draw like a 4-year old. Maybe if he erases somehow the flame at the tail tip it wouldn't look so bad, at least it wouldn't make you laugh because of the thought that he tried to draw a Charmander. Wouldn't it be cool if someone adds this character to Smash in a mod?
My guess about the music is that they were planning to have company franchises-themed stages, I wouldn't be surprised if there is the Dig Dug theme or Opa-Opa hidden somewhere.
I wouldn't like Ryu either. Like someone said above, he's been everywhere, in every Capcom crossover. I like the choice of Megaman but If I wanted another Capcom character I'd choose Viewtiful Joe or Amaterasu. They fit better in Smash.
@Shiryu Never heard of the game before. I wouldn't have ever thought people are still making DOS games, one thing is hardware, but a disk-based OS that ran in no particular hardware is quite different. Playing DOS games was a compatibility nightmare.
About the article, is not that I didn't like it, I felt it was limited and the choice of games was a little odd.
"The Best Alternate Reality SNES Classics"... a little exaggerated, don't you think? These choices are clearly European. Dune? Elite? An American or a Japanese wouldn't have thought on those. If on Euro-fan service-Earth, our "Real World Alternatives" would have coexisted with those things, our alternatives would have sent those games into oblivion. Who would need Elite when you had Star Fox? A nice looking yet over-censored-slowdown-filled version of Splatterhouse wouldn't have surpassed the great TG-16 and MD versions. An slightly above average game based in a bad movie most people don't remember over slightly above average games based in timeless George Lucas films?... I stick with the Lucas games. As many of us remember, even in the Real World, having the word Super on a Super NES game was not really that super most of the times. Nice effort, but there were so many better dream games to pick from: Axelay 2, Tournament Fighters 2, Super Ninja Gaiden, Super Shatterhand, Super F-Zero (a true sequel, not the BS-X hack), Super Goonies, Super Blaster Master, etc.
Really PBS? I know you need money from "viewers like us" but trying to make science "interesting" for gamers so we would donate, it's kind of dumb and trying to explain why something in a game with faeries, magical masks, walking tree creatures and drowned kids is even dumber. This better be an April Fool's joke. If you want to make videos about science in video games, why don't you explain why the Atari 2600 seems to display more colors than the NES or the MD/Genesis or how motion controls work or something like that? You know, real science.
If this keeps up, they are gonna try to explain why Yoshi is a dinosaur that can talk, why Bowser spits fire, why Princess Peach floats or why a cartridge of dynamite can blow a bridge but won't kill the Coyote, all with science.
If things that happen in video games or cartoons were possible, the science that would try to explain it would be very different to begin with.
I challenge them to apply videogame or cartoon physics to explain something that happens in real life, for example, why would a man die from radiation instead of becoming green if we'd have the same physics and physiology as in the Marvel universe.
It's just dumb. If video games were supposed to be possible in the real world, we'd have life bars floating in our heads instead of blood. You should explain with science why things in fiction don't happen in the real world, not why they happen in fiction.
The 3DS is supposed to playback 3-D videos with the camera app but they have to be in the SD. Could it be possible to see a download link for the video in a compatible format?
According to WayForward, 75% for the Mighty Switch games and 25% for Shantae. Sadly, that doesn't include the GBC version, it's still a good deal, though, considering the prices for the real thing.
@andrew20 Nintendo really underestimated the VC on the current generation. So many portable systems they could've picked from for the 3DS, how about the WonderSwan?. Saturn or even DC games could have been great on the WiiU. We don't even get imports. Shame on you, Nintendo!
An outdated plain 2D platformer that couldn't surpass its predecessor, now on 3D... I think I'll pass on this one (if it was real). I would rather see the Virtual Boy games or something that would look better on 3D such as F-Zero, Star Fox or Axelay. They should also convert the old 8-bit games that used 3D glasses for the Master System and the Famicom.
Just for fun, the guys who made the video should make Atari 2600 games in 3D. How about E.T.?
Nintendo should really fix that awful YouTube app for the 3DS, not only it doesn't play 3D videos, it can't play stereo sound in videos.
EDIT: I meant that I would rather see those games for real on the 3DS, but the "what if" videos would be interesting also.
This will get rejected, too much licensing for a limited market it will have, unless they make them very limited editions. It's a shame that you have to make a pledge to LEGO to release a set so you can "build" what you want. The guys who made the models either used CGI or had to buy about 25 sets to get enough building blocks. 30 years ago you would only try and copy the models with your blocks set or even make others instead of waiting for the specific set. LEGO's are just 3D plastic puzzles now. A good slogan for LEGO should be, "For the imagination impaired". I just hope it doesn't give them the idea to start making LEGO videogames with Sega characters instead. I don't want to see hundreds of LEGO Sonic The Videogame collecting dust in the used games at the stores in the future or a LEGO Shenmue, that would be worse than not getting the 3th installment.
It's amazing what MS is trying to sell their failed console. They try to sell it with nostalgia, but all you get with it are many non-exclusive indies and the same FPS games you get on the X360. For me, the XBO is like the Atari 5200, the same old games in a slightly better, awful-looking machine.
Why do you ask for a fan-service gimmick? We got the game first and we get better games after all.
Battletoads? The people who were behind it and made it wonderful won't be there, the upcoming release doesn't excite me as it would have 15 years ago or so when the real RARE was working with Nintendo.
If IGN would have done this mistake, It would deserve this news article and a big scolding (possibly some employees fired too). However, this is CBBC, not only they are a children's network with singing puppets and the like, they're British. When we were playing NES in NA, they were hooked on the Spectrum and the C64. I bet an American local network would make a similar mistake if they try to talk about those computers. I think you're making too much fuss about it, I've seen worse.
@Jahir Just like she says at the end, if you like her voice you should check her whole channel. She sure loves her Pokémon, it's a must see if you're a fan of the game.
Aren't facts more interesting than crazy fiction? Theories might be fun, but even when they do their homework, they're still not real.
Finally, a good recommendation for a YouTube video that is not one of those cliché'd theories or another guy playing the SMB theme on a banjo with his feet. These videos are well researched, I recommend you to watch the whole series of them. You should also check GameTrailers' Pop Fiction and Pop Facts series for a change.
I might get banned after this but seeing these articles about the game theory videos that were posted only about a week after each other, the similar case with the fan arrangers and now this with a headline that gives the idea that the homebrew scene was inexistant prior to this game, makes me think these articles are sponsored. Come on!! There are conventions every year of the homebrew scene, games are made even for the least known consoles like the Channel F and are sold as carts or discs. Are people paying some of the NL staff so that their YouTube videos get more views; so they can sell their arranged music or so an overpriced homemade cart gets more orders? You should be more careful with the so-called news you post. Are you gonna cover relevant Nintendo-related news or are you gonna cover every fanmade Nintendo-related work?
@DontPlayDumb Nintendo brand or generic do work. The first time I did a real transfer I converted a generic dual GC/GBA to GBA into a GB/GBC cable. It is even possible to add a switch to make a GBA to GBA into a dual mode transfer cable. So, for you, not getting the original cable is a good excuse for that contraption? I hope not, because if you have a PS3 and you lose those Sony "original" USB cables for your controllers, you'll have to use one of those boards to charge them.
This guy sure took the Kennedy speech on the Moon way too seriously: "... do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard". I traded my 1st and 2nd gen Pokémon 15 years ago by myself to get the pokedex'es complete using many combinations: two GBAs, a GBA and a GB, a GB and a GBP, an N64 and transfer paks, and so on. If you are into retro these days, you are likely to have at least a GBA and a GC with GB Player or even a cheaper combination. A cable should be around 2 dollars at least. So, why to do this convoluted procedure? "Just because it is hard".
This guy might not have friends but has a lot of time in his hands.
@TeeJay: That's exactly how I feel about this (see below).
Another fan arranger article... I personally don't think this is material for the news section, maybe a forums entry. Serously, if you are gonna keep covering them, we'll get 2 or 3 pages a day of these. I know fan arranger have their own fans, and I acknowledge their effort (despite being a somebody else's work), but I just don't think it deserves to be in the news at the home page (unless NL becomes a fan arrangers specialized site).
Why can't Nintendo adopt an account system like Sony's? With Sony's consoles, not only I can have my games in more than one console, the system registration is done online in a simple web page and it's so easy you might not even notice you're done and you don't have to sacrifice your game saves.
Yawn... If you are gonna post as news every time one of those fan arrangers makes another chiptune rendition of music, the news section is gonna be flooded. If it would have been official, it would have been interesting, but there are so many of these today, this is nothing special. By the way, the Wii U VC version might not be yet, but there's the Wii VC version which I've heard has a workaround for the slowdown. It's cute, but I recommend the PSP version instead, if you get it digital, you can play it on the PSV or PSTV.
Duh! In other news, communists and capitalists may actually have a different view on economics (Just some sarcasm about that dumb headline that gave me the wrong idea about the producer).
The whole article makes a good point but is nothing new. I've spent a lot of money getting harmless retro 8-bit and 16-bit games from Japan because they were not released here for being too Japanese. What's wrong with Twinbee, Parodius or Umihara Kawase? Just because they are cute or have some risqué situations it wouldn't had turn me into a sex offender.
I do think DOA is quite sexist, especially the 5th installment, but, hey!, It's just a game. Feminism or puritanism in excess can turn into fascism quite easily.
This is no rumor, the channel Gaming History Source has posted videos about this claims by elicense even for Fantasy Zone music, just the darn music, not the content. He had to change those videos to private. Change the headline, this is no rumor. Sega has to clarify and take action if necessary about this elicense jerks.
@kurtasbestos LOL. Now that would have been news. There are a handful of these videos and some have been there for years and many are for real. The guys at Nintendo Life seem to have just discovered You Tube, probably prior to the announce of the creators program, they didn't know what YT was, they must have thought it was a Nintendo Channel or Nintendo Video rip-off. They've been showing too many "weird" videos lately. Dumb theories, old videos of feats and bad beginners editing trying to be funny, really guys? You should use that little app that's been on your Nintendo consoles since the Wii. I guess the next "Wierdness" will be sonic.exe or AVGN.
I have the next one for you guys: Wierdness: Kids in schools make flipnotes using their notebooks instead of Flipnote Studio.
Geez! Enough of this theory crap. It's just a game, not a comic book. it doesn't need that their multiverse, physics or anything is over-explained or "theorized" to make it a good game. Just look at the whole mess Marvel is now, I really doubt that Multiversity rip-off will actually help them amend the past 20 years of crap they've been putting out. The worst part about these theories is that they take things that are actually part of the "lore" but are not well known and show them as "theories" of their own with all kinds of clichéd crap.
These conspiracy "theories" are becoming just like those stupid creepypastas, the first 5 or so were funny, scary and even believable, now it's just a bunch of clichés derived from the early ones and these are the same now. Universes, multiverses, limbo/purgatory, long lost relatives, limbo/purgatory, autism, limbo/purgatory, the minds of the authors. Did I forget to mention limbo and purgatory?
I wish Nintendo Video would stop posting those moronic Cartoon Conspiracy videos, I hope they won't start posting these game theory videos too.
A terrible idea this is, in my opinion.
I bought the game on sale, and I'm glad I only spent less than a US$1. As far as retro-styled games are, this one is not as good as others such as bit.Trip or Meat Boy. I was hoping to get a game as frantic as those published by AtariAge for the 2600 but I was disappointed. It's not bad, I was expecting more. If it would have been released for the 2600 in its time, It would have had decent sales, but if it would on the NES lifetime, despite good reviews, it would have bombed. Gamers would have rather spend their money on Dark Void Zero or Retro City Rampage (if they actually were from that time). The NES was "rad" but this game is "far-out", the 2600 was "far-out".
I'm glad I've never heard about this YT channel. I hate those dumb conspiracy theories on pop culture stuff. Why can't you just enjoy those things for what they are and not for what they should be if they were real or if they were supposed to make any sense? It was this kind of stuff that ruined American silver age comic books. It's just entertainment, people. Did someone watch Cheers for the good laughs it made or to ponder if the bar was some kind of strange lab where Sam was creating mysterious brews that could only attract the same people at all times and didn't turn them drunk and kept Norm's liver in top condition? Come on! It's just a dream match, a dream match. But of course, we are not talking the same game here, they talk about Super Smash Bross, I've only played Super Smash Brothers (seriously, not even Japanese say bros).

@HollywoodHogan So this is a decision over the old leaks? I thought there were new leaks. So what's the point of this "important decision"?

What's wrong with Atlus? Their games are on sale almost every week on the eShop and PS Store.
Re: Video: What If Super Mario World Was A 3D Classic?
Re: Weirdness: Sega Classic Arcade Machines Could Be Reproduced in LEGO Form
Re: Don't Seethe Too Much Over Xbox One Shovel Knight Getting Battletoads, We Might Get A Cool Crossover, Too
It's amazing what MS is trying to sell their failed console.
Re: Weirdness: British Children's TV Channel Gets Its Nintendo History Somewhat Mixed Up
If IGN would have done this mistake, It would deserve this news article and a big scolding (possibly some employees fired too).
Re: Video: Did You Know Gaming's Latest Pokémon Episode Explores the History of Game Freak and Its Influences
@Jahir Just like she says at the end, if you like her voice you should check her whole channel. She sure loves her Pokémon, it's a must see if you're a fan of the game.
Aren't facts more interesting than crazy fiction? Theories might be fun, but even when they do their homework, they're still not real.
Re: Video: Did You Know Gaming's Latest Pokémon Episode Explores the History of Game Freak and Its Influences
Re: Yes, People Are Still Making NES Games In 2015
I might get banned after this but seeing these articles about the game theory videos that were posted only about a week after each other, the similar case with the fan arrangers and now this with a headline that gives the idea that the homebrew scene was inexistant prior to this game, makes me think these articles are sponsored.
Re: Yes, People Are Still Making NES Games In 2015
NEWS: Yes, people are still making radio shows in 2015.
This is not news to me and many, many people.
Re: Weirdness: Pokémon Fan Finds a Way to Trade First Generation Pocket Monsters With Himself
Re: Weirdness: Pokémon Fan Finds a Way to Trade First Generation Pocket Monsters With Himself
Re: Video: YouTube Musician Smooth McGroove Performs Majora's Mask Milk Bar Acapella
Re: Nintendo Provides a Handy Quick Guide to Completing a New Nintendo 3DS System Transfer
Why can't Nintendo adopt an account system like Sony's? With Sony's consoles, not only I can have my games in more than one console, the system registration is done online in a simple web page and it's so easy you might not even notice you're done and you don't have to sacrifice your game saves.
Re: Music: Here's The Entire Gradius III Soundtrack In NES Style, Just Because
Re: Nintendo Download: 5th February (North America)
Is Atlus doing that bad? Their games are always on sale on the eShop and PS Store.
Re: Dead Or Alive Producer Feels That A Cultural Divide Exists Between Japan And The West
@Blast Won't somebody please think of the virtual children?! We are ruining their virtual childhood.
Re: Dead Or Alive Producer Feels That A Cultural Divide Exists Between Japan And The West
Re: Rumour: Sega-Related YouTube Videos Are Being Hit With Content ID Matches
This is no rumor, the channel Gaming History Source has posted videos about this claims by elicense even for Fantasy Zone music, just the darn music, not the content. He had to change those videos to private. Change the headline, this is no rumor. Sega has to clarify and take action if necessary about this elicense jerks.
Re: Weirdness: A Budding Little Mac Beats Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! While Blindfolded
Re: Video: A New Game Theory for Pokémon Lore Gets Rather Scientific
Re: Woah Dave! May Become a Real NES Cartridge Release
Re: Weirdness: This Interpretation of Super Smash Bros. 'Lore' Takes a Serious Turn
