Re: Death's Gambit Brings Its Hardcore RPG Action To Switch In Expanded 'Afterlife' Edition

MisterMan

@MichaelP @Kiwi_Unlimited No, there's several elements/mechanics that go into classifying something as a "soulslike". Usually, the main things being a stamina gauge, dropping currency on death (which you can then recover at that spot), a character that levels up with currency, some build variety with that character, levels/areas that intertwine with unlockable shortcuts, story typically told through found items and lore, and tough combat which usually has a dodge/roll.
@Daniel36 @Nin10dood @the_beaver It's not because it's a difficult game. The reason they're referring to this as a "soulslike" is because it has all of the above criteria.

This game was really bad when it launched on PC. I'll wait for some reviews and hopefully they managed to save this game. Parts of it were interesting.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.0 Launches Today With New Ending And More

MisterMan

@JaxonH Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you on this. I'm not saying that Rise is lacking on content at all, so I'm not sure why you're bringing the monster count. But the story didn't have an ending in 1.0. As it stands, Rise has been my favorite MH game and I'm not complaining, but when you pay $60 for a game and then they release an ending a few months later, you can't really say that the ending was free.

Re: Review: Hellpoint - A Sci-Fi Soulslike Which Suffers From Hellish Technical Issues On Switch

MisterMan

@BloodNinja I disagree. The Eshop should only allows screenshots of the game running on Switch to be shown on their store page. This game runs horribly in sections that have more than a couple enemies. The video you posted is basically the character walking down empty corridors, and even that looks bad. I feel bad for anyone who pays full price for this based on what they see on the Eshop. Hopefully more people read this review and games stop being released on the Switch in this state. Every developer doesn't need to release their game on the Switch if they can't make it playable.

Re: Review: Curse of the Dead Gods - Fans Of Hades Will Find Lots To Like Here

MisterMan

@aSmilingMan I wouldn't say I felt immersed. The game is pretty one note in it's atmosphere. It's dark and pretty slow paced. The combat is really fun. It's slow and tactical, unlike Hades. The weapons and relics don't offer nearly as much variety as Hades, but it's still a fun game. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy it again on Switch. I played around 5 hours on PC but think I'd get more mileage out of it playing handheld.

Re: Review: UnderMine - A Supremely Refined And Downright Delicious Roguelite

MisterMan

@Scollurio So far I like this more than Moonlighter (and I liked Moonlighter a lot). There's no shop mechanic and the combat is better. The rougelike mechanics, like Relics, are also a lot of fun and make subsequent runs feel very different. Moonlighter had more unique elements to it, but this game feels much more fleshed out and realized. It doesn't bring that much new to the genre, but the game is really fun to play.

Re: Review: Gods Will Fall - An Addictive And Original Nintendo Switch Roguelike

MisterMan

@gcunit The game is not as deep as Hades with it's rougelike mechanics. In Hades each run can be drastically different depending on what weapon and build you go far. This game does not have that kind of variety. It plays like an isometric action game, with slower combat (much slower than Hades), and some locked animation. There is no stamina bar. So far the actual stats, gear and loot seem pretty bare bones and don't effect the game too much. However, the game is still a lot of fun and refreshingly different from other indie games in this genre.
@bozz It is. It's always a good reminder for me not read the comments of rouge games.
