After a slip-up on Nintendo's end, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was officially unveiled during Ubisoft's E3 presentation.
Being a sequel, a number of key figures have returned, and this includes the former Rare composer Grant Kirkhope. He was previously responsible for the first game's soundtrack, and this time around he's even been given the opportunity to score the trailers for the sequel.
Here's what he had to say about the reveal of Sparks of Hope during a special Games Industry E3 podcast:
"I'm so pleased to get it out there, you know, it's not a secret anymore. Yes, it's great to get it out there... I got to score both the trailers, the gameplay and the cinematic trailers that a lot of the time you don't get to do that...yeah, I feel I'm part of the launch which is nice."
In a follow-up tweet, Grant revealed one of the more special moments working on the game, which was being able to do an arrangement of the Comet Observatory theme from the Super Mario Galaxy series:
Oh, and there's apparently a neat reference to a Banjo-Tooie track in the Sparks of Hope trailer:
Creative director Davide Soliani also had a special message for Kirkhope during a developer discussion about the game:
"Honestly Grant is not only a composer to me, he's a close friend. And I couldn't imagine doing a game without him - even if he's always complaining and whining about something, I want him on my side."
Are you excited to hear more from Grant Kirkhope in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope? Will you be adding this game to your Switch library when it arrives next year? Leave a comment down below.

This is quite a feather in Signor Soliani's cap. I wonder if (when?) the Milan Ubisoft studio will branch out to other titles, and what they might be...
I really hope they do another musical boss number. The one in Kingdom Battle is the absolute high point of the game for me.
This game is going to be a biggie
One specific melody from the first Mario + Rabbids, the one that plays during the tutorials, and also "Rabbid Kong Rumble", is actually one of my personal favorites ever since. I was so expecting Grant to return that I would've been stunned if he wasn't!
I'm probably not gonna pick up the game but damn I love his music
@JasmineDragon maybe phantom will make his return again to get his revenge on mario.......
Bwah... Hum...ah-ehm
Bwaaaah-Bwah-Bwah BwaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Bwah Ahem-har...
Humph!
You think yours is a real moustache?
Who's done me a thousand wrongs
Ever since Donkey Kong?
Slithering down every pipe
Despite his plumb-shaped body type!
Who's gonna run in fear
While screaming 'Mamma miaaaaaaaaaa'?
Who leaves me gray and grim?
Oh, what does Peach see in him?
MARIO!
With great joy in my heart
Each time I watch Mario Kart!
You're first and doing so well
But here comes the Spiny Shell! (Ha ha ha!)
And now you and your Rabbid friends
Have finally met your ends!
Just let me catch my breath
Then I'll 'high C' you to death!
Act 2 (unused):
So that is all you've got,
You didn't hurt me a lot!
I'll help you to recap:
Between you and me, There's a gap!
Mario, you're such a bore...
Your blows just make me snore!
You haven't hurt me a single bit (Ha ha ha!)
Prepare for my greatest HIT!
Act 3:
Who do you think you are?
You should kneel, Iām the STAR!
You are nothing but a parody
Iāll find you a good role in a TRAGEDY. (Hahahaha!)
āItās-a me!ā āLetās-a go!ā
The only words you know!
My art will touch your princessās HEART
And you will be pulled APAAAAART!
You think youāll win this tournament?
Iāll send you to retirement!
Youāre so NOT worth the hassle!
Your princess is in another castle!
Mushrooms wonāt end the pain...
Time for the Phantom to start his reign!
So that's why he tweeted himself with a Ubisoft hat the other day. Loved his arrangements in the first game.
Hopefully he gets to tackle more Mario tracks. I mean: As far as I can tell almost all the tracks in the original where originals. Only the Peach castle theme was a Mario track.
Nintendo have to pull out all the biggies to top this for me and E3 hasn't even happened yet.
The first game is one of my top games on the Switch.
To have GK back on board is the icing on the cake.
the music sounds great. cannot wait for this fantastic game.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Kirkhope!
This is the good news of the good news.
I knew instantly that he was back as soon as the music for the trailer started playing, his musical style is iconic.
I actually noticed the small reference to Banjo& Kazooie during the trailer, those notes are hard burned into my memory. Good stuff!
I am so proud of this man who helped compose our childhoods. He started as a humble lil' polka composer and now he's out here making music fit for fricken hollywood. Composing a game fit for Koji MFin' Kondo.
@JasmineDragon agreed, i cant believe nintendo gave that the thumbs up
