@ThanosReXXX Agreed. And never gotten off the ground you say? Honestly, I hope physical sticks around. Maybe because I'm old, and that's what I'm used to, but I don't like the idea of publishers/developers having the games to their every whim, able to call them back at a moment's notice. It scares me.

@ThanosReXXX A gaming PC can also be a workstation, but I understand.

I've had this conversation with someone who states that soon, home-console will be no more, and everything will be cloud-based with people merely owning a service. I cannot imagine having that. Publishers could pull your game at a moment's notice, which is a scary thought.

But, back to the point. I hope E3 has more for everyone, not just the people who only own a Switch, or cream themselves over portability (Excuse the wording, I'm still rather sore due to this transition from solid home-console, to plastic connector.)

@ThanosReXXX I understand, but your PC gaming situation can easily be resolved. A good, big screen. A strong, nice computer and a comfy office chair would see to that.

As for the home-console situation, I hope so. With Nintendo's need for affordability, even if a handheld could, god forbid, surpass the home-consoles of today, they still wouldn't go the distance due to price >.>

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

MFD

@ThanosReXXX True, but by that Xbox One X, unless I'm missing something, it shows that power is required to reach these stabilities, and always staying behind won't help in this regard (Even if the Switch is the crème of the crop as handheld, it doesn't hold the same weight as home-console)

By that, I'm still one to firmly believe that 2 separate consoles is the best choice, since you can go for power and stability on the other, while the one has the "lesser" version, but is portable, instead of having everything hinge on a tablet. (Where's my Nintendo IP on the former, Nintendo? )

But back to the subject matter, if you were wearing my shoes (Dem comfy sports-shoes) and you had to choose between PC or Switch version (having a fairly good PC) plus likely paying more for the Switch version, what would you do?

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

MFD

@ThanosReXXX Not in all of them, no, but in the case of Dark Souls I can see why people argue 60 being better. In case of a turn-based? Nah, but action oriented, like fighters? Yes.

But stability is also very important. Frame-drops, or lagg if they're frequent enough, is a stage we should be well past by now, and yet we're not.

Push comes to shove, power matters for gameplay experience, and you can twist that in any way you like, the Switch just has less of that. Paying more for a lesser working product isn't something you'd do anywhere else, so why justify it here?

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

MFD

@ThanosReXXX Not truly a drought, true, but it feels like one for those who own multiplat, a Wii-U, and don't happen to value portability highly enough to buy a game again (Sure, that's a small minority, but there's enough of them in the comments it seems)

I'm a man of logic, and I just can't justify it to myself, to buy a game like Dark Souls Remastered on Switch, when I have a perfectly good PC that can run that game on 60 FPS compared to 30....

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

MFD

@Tibob It's hard to argue that one though, since there are quite a few people who, likely, buy these games (owning them already) on Switch, because of portability.

@rjejr I feel you there. Sometimes, I can't help but feel punished for supporting Nintendo during the Wii-U era

But yes, your explanation really resonates with me. My Switch is even gathering dust at this moment Hopefully that's shaken up/off soon enough, but my situation just doesn't have it feasible to buy games for Switch that are also playable on my PC.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

MFD

@ThanosReXXX I see that sarcasm, but honestly, unless you own only a Switch, or portability is your Overlord and all that matters, it is kind of droughty. Been around 2-3 months myself since I bought a Switch game, and plenty of weeks since I've played mine, as the dust has settled on it.

Push comes to shove, anyone with a third-party machine where they prefer their experiences due to them being objectively better than on Switch, and not a need for portability for whatever reason, will feel that these coming months are a drought, and I honestly can't blame them for it.

Has me thinking I really should buy a PS4 at some point.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr Agreed, but it sure would be nice to get some of those Nintendo-bound experiences on a machine that can push them that bit further.

Nothing wrong with wanting the best experience.

@JaxonH Personally, I'm rather annoyed with the amount of clones and lazy-work in FE:W, but to each their own on that one.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr I agree with the dock improvements, but then that summons the age-old argument of "But what about handheld?".

In regards to what you said about home-console games, I don't know. That's not how I view them at all. XC2 is as much a home-console game to me as something like Uncharted 2 is. Hell, I still enjoy games from 2004, when the graphics were in their kid-shoes.

Sometimes though, in cases like an RTS, you just need power to render everything on screen, fluidly, and to still look good. Whenever I mention power, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Power for the sake of making a game the best it can be.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr DLC I can live with, so long as it's done properly. Micro-transactions, making it's way to 60 costing games is a disgrace. For a free to play, like Path of Exile, that's normal, as it's how they keep going, but that 60 game is full priced. Why did Battlefront 2 have that crap in it? What happened to Middle Earth: Shadow of War?

The more I see where this crap goes, the more I wonder if it's time for another crash, maybe stop going the predatory route and think for a second. Konami is selling save-games off the back of a venerated franchise, just where the hell are we going with this?

Nintendo isn't really following in with it yet, but what's to say they won't get there? Companies only want to hear "more" and not "enough" after all....

But back to the Switch discussion: I'm just afraid that, Nintendo will drop home-console entirely at some point. It's working well now, and, arguably, the Switch is still quite home-console, but if you compare it to the others in that line, it's already quite a departure. From a solid box, to a plastic connector, it has me wonder if Nintendo will only have handhelds in the not too distant future. As someone who grew up with NES and loves playing games on a big screen for that home experience, I look at this with fearful eyes.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr "I think all of these first games were rushed, the newer games should be better." God I hope so. And games that aren't lazy like FE:W (tons of clones) or that had 60/100 people pulled off to help with BotW (XC2)

Yeah, it's hard to predict where they'll be going. MS has been combining with PC a lot, Sony is going VR, both going 4K, but with all the micro-transactions, selling of save games, EA BS with Battlefront, what can we even expect of 4K and how it will increase the cost of games? Will it stretch that far?

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr I'm with you on not gaming in handheld mode, but from the perspective of portable version and how the Switch is shown/used, it just... brings this nagging feeling of "wanting it to be more" in me, you know what I mean?

Even if the Switch had more power, it's not a guarantee that it'd be used, but at least parity with the base version would be nice. I'd like to be able to say, that buying the Switch version of a game, doesn't mean buying it for portability because it can match the PS4/Xbox One base versions, which would be awesome.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr Graphics, but let's be real, those aren't always a problem. With know-how, you can make something look great on Switch (Odyssey is a good example).

It's when games run worse beyond that department, that I'm iffy on the matter. Indies and such, they tend to run as well as on other devices, but serious frame-drops due to hardware limitations and the like has me do a second take on Switch versions.

I mean, if one owns a PS4/Xbox One/PC, and portability isn't high on their priority list, then why would they buy the Switch version of a game they can have on another system?

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr I see your point. Personally, the Switch feels more like the 3DS successor to me, than the Wii-U's success, but that's because of how the important bits are housed in a tablet. Function is great and all, but it's just missing something without form, and even when docked, it's still a handheld in a holder

But well, tablet, handheld, home-console or not, this will be Nintendo's only machine in the near future, so if you want their games, you're left without a choice.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

MFD

@rjejr Well, if you look at it purely technically, the tablet unit holds all the important bits, but you can only use touch-screen on it. So you need the Joy-Cons to make any use of it, which then translates to tabletop or handheld. Add the dock, and you can have your TV work with it.

I can't fault people for calling it a handheld. Hell, some people in one of my Discord communities didn't even know it had a dock, until I told them

Maybe more people will recognize and credit it as a home-console if they improve the dock to provide more than it does now?

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Analysis On Dark Souls: Remastered

MFD

@Freek So you rag on people for experiencing issues with games? I've enjoyed XC2 immensely, but the frame-drops in the 10s if not lower at a certain location will not simply leave my memory out of clemency.

Faults should be picked out, and resolved, not excused by people like you.

Re: Video: Here's More Evidence That The Switch Port Of WWE 2K18 Really Is Terrible

MFD

@carlos82 I echo that sentiment. Buy multiplats on PC myself, though portability in large, has these ports still sell on Switch if anything.

I frequently wonder if portability has made a lot of Switch owners far more forgiving of games on the system, which I view as an inherently bad thing. If publishers catch on to that, they will exploit it, no doubt.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

MFD

@BanjoPickles You make good points, and Nintendo is bound to deliver on the hardware front when upgrading the Switch's main unit, but if you look at the dock, and compare it to the Nintendo consoles of old (started with SNES as a kid) then it's quite the departure.

It feels (and indeed hasn't been used at all by some people) like something you'd accidentally throw away during a clean-up of your electronics drawer. It has me wonder if it will stick around at the end of the day? It only sticks around due to how many people use it, but if that was far less, would Nintendo still have continued it?

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

MFD

@BanjoPickles Oh sure, Nintendo has a ton of support now, but I'd just like to see more reason to buy a game for Switch, besides the 2 in 1 offering and portability, you know?

I mean, put yourself in my shoes, you've got a good PC, no need for portable, and a Switch. Why would you ever buy a port on Switch, if it's purchaseable on PC for 1. Quite likely less money (Steam sales anyone?) and/or 2. Very likely running/looking better (unless indie)?

I've been a long-time enjoyer of Nintendo's IP, and Pokemon/Fire Emblem etc, keep me hooked still. But if you'd ask me where I'd want my games, I'd never name the Switch as my first choice. Not because the system is bad, but because the focus was on making it portable, and then making sure it connects to a TV, and thus, it simply cannot be equal to other versions of a game in terms of ports.

You can make a ground-up game for Switch, and it can be pure awesomeness, that's already proven. But ports? Those will always be "less" of a product on Switch comparatively. So if you don't want portability there, there's literally no logical reason to support the developers of these games on Switch, and that's just sad.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

MFD

@BanjoPickles What I read from your last part "How DARE people have preferences and some genres not appeal to them?! BUY AND PLAY EVERYTHING [removed] YOU!"

I have a good PC, which I happily prioritize over my Switch, any day, every day, so for me personally, it's either a good exclusive, not on my PC, or I couldn't care less.

But I'm but one person who is part of a miniscule percentage. I'm sure the majority will be happy with their 2 in 1/portability and take that in stride. I'm just sometimes wondering why I did buy the Switch, especially at times like these, and especially, since I did bother to buy a Wii-U.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

MFD

80% ports, and some exclusives, of which only Octopath interests me personally. As someone with a genuinely good PC, and no need for portability, it's a barren time.

Great for those who missed it/own only Switch/love portability, the opposite for anyone who doesn't fall in aforementioned category. I guess this is what one buys Switch for /shrug.

As someone who has it for the exclusives, I'll be saving money on Switch games for a while, namely by not buying them

Re: The Studio That Ported Skyrim To Switch Wants To Tackle Monster Hunter World Next

MFD

As someone on another site has pointed out, these guys have, apparently, only Skyrim as a good port, so it may just be that they're trying to gather positive PR by capitalizing on, it definitely looks that way.

At the end of the day, Monster Hunter World did great, and that's before it's even hit PC's: https://www.videogamer.com/news/monster-hunter-world-is-now-capcoms-best-selling-game-of-all-time

I don't know why people would want this, ground-up games work better on Switch, and the same rumour that predicted MHW also predicted a ground-up Switch game already in the works, so it's a question of "Don't ask for the impossible, just have faith"

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For A Switch 2.0, Sources Claim

So Accessories, I hold very vague hope for an improved dock, but before I finish my typing, let me just mentally grab an ME shield to ward off all the people that will inevitably leap at my throat for daring to want something like that.
